Castello Italia in Carrickfergus

This one is getting 5 stars! Georgous meal tonight with my husband and son. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, staff ultra friendly and efficient and the food amazing. Husband had the seabass which he said was fab, and came with beautifully cooked sides. Son had the pork dish and I had fetticinni (spelling!) Alfredo. Desserts were lemon cheesecake and Tiramasu. Everything was delicious and we will be back soon.

There's not much I can say that's negative about Castello if I'm being perfectly honest. I usually order for delivery so that's an added bonus straight away. Every element of ordering from them, taking my call to finally sitting down to eat the beautifully prepared food is 100/10. The staff are so friendly and warm. The dishes themselves are death row worthy so if you're ever unfortunate enough to get the chair please consider Castello's menu for your last earthly meal before you join another realm (they also cater for many different dietary requirements) very reasonably priced for the portion sizes you have.

Slightly disappointed after visiting for the first time. Staff looked disinterested and gave the impression that they wanted to be elsewhere. Service was prompt. Pizzas were ok.

The driver was very professional and delivery time only ended up being 20 minutes when it said 50-60 minutes

We ate in the Cafe area as I cannot get upstairs. This was not a disappointment. The staff are friendly and prompt. The food was amazing! Served in giant portions, and steaming hot. My husband and I agreed, it is the best italian meal we have had in a long time. We will definitely be back in the future.

We came in for a quick lunch. And we were soon seated. One of us picked the spiced chicken stack, and I had previously enjoyed the prawn linguine so I chose that. For dessert one of us had the sundae with Nutella and nuts and the other went for white chocolate raspberry sundae. All was very tasty indeed and Melissa was our very attentive server.

Food was excellent as usual but the staff just couldn’t be bothered, not one greeting did we get, not one smile, just ‘I don’t want to be here’ look. Spoiled out night .

A warm and friendly welcome, superb service and food outstanding as always. The restaurant was very busy and had a lovely atmosphere. Everything was very well managed and organised. Beautiful interiors and views across Belfast Lough to enjoy in the lighter evenings.

Guys, the pizza was stone cold….very little toppings and slightly undercooked. The sticky toffee pudding is meant to be served warm, currants in the pudding to keep it moist and this was bone dry…not nice eating at all. £33 it cost and really not worth that at all.

Booked table for six, easily booked online. Very welcoming staff with spotless table and nice warm decor. Food was delicious, especially seafood dishes and meals were priced well for quality of food. Highly recommended restaurant.

12 pieces of pepperoni on a £12.95 pizza - not even 2 pieces per slice! there's better value on a £3.99 pizza in Lidls, which I will use next time. feeling rightly ripped off.

A very nice Sunday lunch, and will be returning. Hopefully they will have Venison Gnocchi available next time.

A really enjoyable early evening dinner.Friendly service and excellent food, my only minor criticism would be that I often find the servings a little too generous I like to leave a clean plate but its not always possible at Castello as portions are so big. Its probably just me!

Amazing king prawn and sausage starter and a fabulous pizza, backed up by attentive service.

No atmosphere in bar upstairs and not enough seats to accommodate everyone. Maybe a visit from Santa would have helped or some live music. Upstairs seemed very disorganised compared to the efficiency of service we experienced in the first floor restaurant.

Decided to give another chance after a horrible previous order (2 bones in chicken, AND a piece of metal in the pizza...). This time one of the pizzas was completely destroyed. Must have been tossed around or dropped as all of the toppings and cheese were stuck to the top of the box. The other pizzas all with very little sauce or cheese too.

Dined with family on Christmas Day - overall experience was just ok. Overpriced when considered a service charge added to bill automatically (questionable). Service was extremely slow - long waits on being seated, drinks service, starters, mains and desserts - not a great experience with 2 young children . Lack of communication acknowledgement or addressing the waits. Nothing to help kids like you would get anywhere else - presents, colouring in. Not the fault of the front of house - who seemed to be off their feet and lack of numbers. Likely owners for poor preparation for the demand. Food was just ok - as I said for the price and added a service charge - not great value. Would I go back? Not likely - especially on Christmas Day

We had a table booked for 2:30 on Xmas day and on arrival we were told our table would be ready in 10 minutes. 35 minutes later we were called to be seated. It was a further 20 minutes when I had to ask is anyone going to ask us for a drinks order. Once drinks ordered it was 15 minutes until they appeared. Finally around 3:45pm our first course arrived a full 1hr 15mins after arriving which was decidedly average overall with the prawns doing a great impression of elastic. Main course arrived close to 4:30pm and what was on the plate was paltry to say the least with zero gammon (hello do these people not know what a Christmas dinner consists of?) and vegetables just dumped on the plate. Desert was similar in quality with a lukewarm warm sticky pudding. Bearing in mind that you had to preorder what you wanted days beforehand anyone would think that it would be easy to get right but not this place. I watched the staff throughout our time in the restaurant and they were all at sea and just overwhelmed by their own incompetence. A disaster from start to finish. £95 per adult for this was a complete rip off and they even had the audacity to add on a 10% service charge to the bill. Castellano Italia really needs to get its act together and seriously up its game as our experience was truly awful. For me to get so riled an angry takes some doing as I generally write glowing reviews of places I stay at or eat. However bridges burnt. We won’t be back!

Absolutely gorgeous food The girls who served us were lovely. Although when we went to pay the bill the girl put the amount in the card reader and said insert card.. we were made aware of the £35 service charge that was added on! Absolutely horrified as this is not essential

Woke up at 3am with abdominal cramps and severe vomitting very badly after eating the chicken caesar salad. Would not recommend!

pizza was fine but my wife’s lasagna was watery & cold and tasted like it was cooked from frozen and not fresh .

Lovely wee spot, friendly staff. cajun chicken was lively. Crispy cajun seasoned coating, ( as opposed to smothered in sauce) moist tender chicken inside and lovely smooth mash. Everyone loved their food.They do add a service charge for parties of more than 4, which j don't really agree with as tipping should be a choice. Staff are lovely.

Authentic Italian food at reasonable prices too, no need to go to the big city and pay city prices - the restaurant captain will look after your needs - highly recommended.

The food was fantastic and the staff could not have been better

First visit and was very disappointed. Booked downstairs for pizzas, we ordered 2 large and kids pizza. Fast service within 10mins. The large bbq pizzas were tasteless, soggy & cold. The service was not great and we left the food, went to the bar to pay bill and left. I’m giving service 2stars as the waitress who took order was pleasant.

Haven't visited for a while and decided on the spur of the moment to go for dinner on Sunday night with my partner. Really nice experience and good to see it's still as good as our previous visits. The food was excellent and the staff were very helpful in tweaking my partners pasta dish so it wasn't too spicy. I had a lovely pizza with Nduja and fresh mozzarella which was an excellent combo and the honey and mustard dip accompaniment worked just perfectly. Hopefully won't be as long until we are back. Keep up the great work.

Steak wasn't cooked as ordered and was extremely tough. It was so tough the table actually shook as I was cutting it

Mixed bag. Gamberi and pork belly were good, arancini was cold. Calzone pizza was undercooked and bland, rest of the pizzas were OK. But a service charge added to a table of 5? Really? Would I be back? Probably not.

Genuinely one of the nicest pizzas I have had in a long time … so well cooked and stonebaked crust with an absolutely beautiful garlic dip 10/10

I had my wedding here and we could not have asked for a better day. The whole lead up and planning was impeccable. The staff went a above and beyond. The entire day ran so smoothly and it honestly felt so relaxed that our guests welcomed the staff with open arms. All the staff were so helpful and professional. John was so amazing and took extra care of our guests and especially made sure all the kids were looked after. Which meant that we could totally relax and enjoy our day. John even went beyond with helping our daughter by cutting up her food once it was brought out to her and got her a drink and totally took care of her. Everything was set out perfectly. The food was abundant and absolutely delicious. The cocktails and drinks were amazing. At the end of the night the staff entertained the kids with their dance moves as we said our goodbyes to guests and gathered our things which was amazing and allowed us some time to make sure we had gathered everything. They had packed the rest of our things and set aside for us to collect the next day. Such a well run day and beautiful setting and views. Could not fault one single thing. We are so thankful to all at Castello Italia.

Nice wee spot, downstairs is informal and upstairs more formal. One of the party was disappointed there were no burgers. Lasagne and carbonara got thumbs up as did cajun chicken, which, is actually in a crumb coating but moist inside with lots of creamy mash. Sides were possibly frozen chips but nice enough. Although party found the desserts quite dense and heavy ( sticky toffee and brownies) staff are lovely and it has a nice setting.

The food was first class, apart from the steak which had good flavour and taste but was very tough. Service was excellent and staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The decor and general ambience is of a high standard and my guests were impressed. I have used it before and will do so again. Highly recommended,

It was so so good to get to have my sister date on a Wednesday evening now that you're opened mid week... Outstanding as usual, couldn't fault it. The food, service and setting is fantastic. Highly recommend.

Unfortunately the Ground floor cafe was not busy hence it was a bit lacking in atmosphere - not the Staff or Ownes fault We both had pizza which were delicious

Lovely food, very tasty and better than I had expected. Good menu and very polite courteous staff. I would definitely go back again. Music just a little too loud. Everything else was spot on.

As we were to be on our own this Sunday we decided to eat out and Castello was the choice. We had Bread and shared a delightful plate of Pork Belly bites. For our Main courses we had an Italian take on roast beef with Yorkshire pudding which was reported to be delicious and the seared Scollops on risotto which I had was excellent.The beef was washed down with a glass of Shiraz and the scollops with a 0% Guinness 😋😋 Service was great,and unobtrusive.

£14 for a lasagne that comes in a half not full foil tub. Was nice but a total rip off. Pork belly was so chewy my jaw was tired after taking 45mins to work my way through it. Add chips pepper sauce and small ice cream £36. Never again.

It was very busy at 7.30pm and the atmosphere was quite loud and hectic. We made a reservation however our table wasn't ready and we were put beside the toilets and a storage area. We waited a while for our main courses however they were delicious when they came. The ground floor is possibly more family and larger groups friendly so next time we hope to go upstairs to the restaurant. Staff are friendly and value for money is good.

Extremely slow service. The pizza was nice but the service really ruined the experience for us. We had to practically chase someone down to get a dessert menu and then he left the dirty plates on our table for another half hour until the desserts were brought over. We had to eat our desserts with the dinner plates still on the table. It was just really bizarre and no excuse as the restaurant wasn’t super busy either.

Service was atrocious had to call a server to take our order and again to clear our table. They walked passed the table beside ours that was finished several times even after the people had left but didn't clear the table. Seriously bad service even had to ask for cutlery.

Brilliant as usual food was first class ...staff very good too....only thing I did say it was for my wife's birthday and there was nothing at all ,I've did it in other restaurants and she got a free glass of wine or dessert but got nothing but was still beautiful meal ...

Food was outstanding! Service was amazing the staff listened and helped with everything, even when our puddings got held up because of the sheer volume of people that came through the door (we were in no rush for them) the server couldn't apologise enough, brilliant to see the place buzzing and your staff are certainly a credit to your business

Always a friendly and efficient welcome. Staff work extremely hard to ensure all tables attentively looked after. Particularly child friendly. Food excellent and very generous portions at a highly competitive price. The current all-summer “children eat free” promotion in the downstairs pizzeria has been particularly welcome. Pizzas are of a particularly high standard but thumbs up for the entire menu. Congratulations to all concerned, management and staff. Definitely our favourite Carrickfergus restaurant (and there are others of an almost equally high standard).

Very tasty Italian food overlooking Belfast Lough at Carrickfergus. Our large table was towards the back of the restaurant, so not the best for watching the world go by on the Lough. I had the prawn in chilli starter which was lovely, with great big juicy prawns. Call me a chilli addict, but I had the seafood linguine for my main, also in the same chilli sauce. Again it was very tasty. Service and wait times were good on a Saturday night. We all had two rounds of drinks, then coffee afterwards and prices were a reasonable £40 each.

We love Castello Italia! We were here for an engagement dinner, from our initial booking to paying the bill- it was such a delight. The staff were so friendly and helpful, sorting out our surprises for the couples and bringing such good craic to the table! Thank you so much for the best pizzas and cocktails- we will be back!!

Food was absolutely fantastic. It is definitely one of the best Italian restaurants, nearly as good as amici in portstewart. The service was terrible. Dark hair lady greeting us was really nice and seemed unfriendly. We arrived and waited at the table but no one approached us to take our order. My wife eventually went up to make an order. After 25+ mins I got our food, however the table next to us that ordered 10 mins after us received their food 5 mins before us. Frustrating!!!! And they also were approached at the table by the same lady I mentioned before to take their order. Talk about double standards...... Our table and their table both ordered pizzas so there would be no difference in cooking times, so they probably messed up the orders arrangements. Overall service is very lacking and dry, however the food is absolutely amazing. If you go there maybe wave your hands in the air to get attention or shout over to them because their attention is not good.

The food was excellent. The restaurant was busy when we were there and consequently the service was a bit slow.

Arrived and was greeted by a friendly member of staff. We got to pick where we wanted to sit. The food was delicious and was served quickly. I couldn’t finish my main course so it was boxed up for me. Dessert was big but really nice. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will definitely return. Price was very reasonable.

Didnt get a window seat which we requested two weeks in advance. Got very loud when busy, we were shouting at each other across table to hear each other. Other than that the food and service was amazing.

My friends and I had a lovely meal at Castello Italia, where, for the first time, they tried and enjoyed a typical Italian starter of bread, olive oil and crushed black olives. I found the online reservation app easy to use and hope to return some lunch time to try pizza the next time I am in Carrickfergus.

Been 2 weeks in a row with my little boy & the food has been absolutely gorgeous. Staff always lovely even when super busy. It’s fab to have a place to go which doesn’t just expect kids to only eat chicken nuggets or burgers… I like being able to take my little boy out for wholesome, delicious food & this place ticks all the boxes.

Booked window seat a month in advance for 7pm but on that day had to advise them which I did would be 15 mins late so arriving at 7.15 When we got there they gave our table to some other people They only do 1 sitting as closes at 9.30 pm Manager just said “ you changed booking “ So table was given away Why did this happen ! We were then put in the middle of the floor ? Managment disgrace ! Or at least the manager I spoke too didn’t care ! Food was good and waitress was excellent but no feeling at all from the manager on my question of why we lost our table !

Had booked 1 month in advance and confirmed a window seat in Restraunt for 7pm On day of booking I asked for a 30 minute later booking so 7.30 pm and asked to have same window seat again in person at Restraunt When we arrived table had been given to someone else I asked why the table I had booked at a window was not mine and was told because I had changed booking time it was given to someone else The catering staff where excellent but manager who spoke to us was very unprofessional and just showed us to a table in middle of Restraunt floor and walked away ! No apology and we never saw him again ! His attitude was terrible And don’t understand arriving 15 mins later and also informing them this was happening that we didn’t get table I had asked for 1 month in advance ! The restraunt closes at 9.30 pm so why where we not allowed table I personally had booked a month in advance ? Food was lovely and waitress was excellent but Managment /manager was not courtious in any way .
