Carioca Brixton in Lambeth

Esta solía ser mi opción favorita de brunch con magdalenas de maíz especialmente deliciosas y una salsa verde que tenía un gran impacto. En mis dos últimas visitas, la comida no ha sido la misma. De las otras críticas deduzco que se debe a la nueva gerencia / chefs. Todo el personal es muy amable y servicial. Sin embargo, el estándar de la comida ha sufrido, ya no hay salsas caseras, sino que se reemplaza por la misma salsa de peri peri comprada en el supermercado que tengo en casa. El panecillo de maíz sudamericano ahora reemplazado por algún tipo de papa rosti. El menú también permanece igual y en realidad no refleja el plato de comida que obtienes. Para los visitantes por primera vez, la comida sigue siendo buena. ¡Estoy seguro de que es una pena, ya que solía ser mucho mejor!

Restaurante brasileño. Visité Carioca para el desayuno temprano y quedé satisfecho. La comida era muy buena y el servicio y el ambiente excelente.

Bright cheerful place for lunch in the market. Food good and quantities excellent. Enjoyed the passion fruit mojitos and the good service.

Ni siquiera puedo empezar a describir lo malo que fue esto. Nunca jamás volveré. Las croquetas estaban literalmente congeladas y el servicio fue chocante incluso antes de que intentaran cobrarnos por ellas.

Had delightful Saturday brunch with friends. All portions were colorful, tasty and moderately priced. As suggested in their menu, had a Bloody Mary with the food. This version was a bit more spiced than usuals and was good companion to food.

Delicious Brazilian brunch in this busy little Brazilian cafe in Market Row Brixton - I had a fantastic zingy Caipirinha and a tasty Carioca (perfectly poached egg & grilled bacon on a bed of tomato & pepper salsa on a homemade corn maize raft) & my other half munched his way through a Copacabana (pulled beef & black beans with fried plantain on similar corn maizey thing) with a feisty spicy Bloody Mary. Splendid coffees & real just squeezed OJ too... Kitchen stove full of bubbling pans of deliciousness and staff smiley & helpful too. Ten out of ten, definitely recommended.,,

We visited the place on a Sunday Morning and had brunch. Both the prices and the quality of food was decent but nothing satisfying to visit it again.

Similar to the review below this one, we've been coming to Carioca for about three years. The last visit was during the summer when the standard was high. Unfortunately now, its gone down the pan somewhat. Firstly it took us 35 minutes to get drinks, in which time we had had to nag the waiters to come and take our order. Secondly, when the food did arrive, the portions were notably smaller than previously, albeit it at the same price. Additionally the quality just wasn't as good. When we queried this with the staff, the head waiter (who is always very helpful) told us that new management have taken over and the kitchen staff have changed. The new staff have been told to make the dishes smaller than previously (we were told, because of waste before). This would sort of be ok, if a lower price reflected it and the quality was maintained. But neither has happened. Its really disappointing as the quality was so good before and we used to really look forward to brunching here. I don't think we will bother to return. Additionally, we thought they might knock some money off the bill on account of the above but they didn't. I wouldn't have left a tip but it wasn't really the fault of the staff, its the fault of the management. The management are obviously trying to drive down costs at the expense of the customer. Really disappointing.

3 times we have eaten here and it has got progressively worse. First time great! No complaints. Great food. Second time not so great! Food good but marred by table of 15 who brought their own drinks and didn’t order any food the whole time we were there, yet disrupted all the other tables from ordering. Food good, ambiance bad. Third time bad! Waited till I had ordered before telling my partner there was only 1 chicken dish as most of the dishes on the menu were not available. Unfortunately the chicken it was undercooked. They kindly made a second dish for him: honestly I would have made a better effort of the kebabs at short notice, again undercooked. We dealt with all of this as elegantly as we could despite being starving (I finished mine before he got his second dish) but the final straw was when (having already asked for the bill) they said in Spanish ‘they don’t want to pay’. For this alone we are never going back. So much money have we spent in this market. How dare they say we don’t want to pay . We just wanted a good meal like the first time.

Carioca is a Brazilian restaurant located in the heart of Brixton Market. Great atmosphere and superb food. I especially recommend the Brazilian breakfast.

Working in brixton i've known this restaurant through various incarnations but the latest is by far the best. Having been greeted by the hostess whilst we were examining the menu, who gave us a brief but welcome summary of the speciality dishes, it was a nice touch and decided to give it a go. The venue is smallish but the decor inside is bright and warm (its winter atm) and felt very relaxing. Three of us went there for lunch during the week. The menu is diverse without being too expansive, offering brunch, light lunch and normal lunch. We ordered the jacob ladder burger, a tower of a thing with generous portions of pulled beef and onion rings and have to say lovely frites, the chicken caipeira, a juicy whole leg with wonderful flavours and a perfectly seasoned rice side and delicate plantain crisps which added an extra dimension and the ipanema brunch, a speciality with sliced chorizo, with a very hispanic paprikery taste that was perfectly balanced and sat atop a genius of a maize muffin. We shared a plate of deep fried squid on the side which i have to say went down very well. For all, the portions were generous, the flavours were pleasantly different to anything i've tried before and perfectly balanced. The bill without drinks came to £15 pp without drinks which for the quantity, quality and excellent hospitality represents excellent value for money. A little shining gem that i can't recommend enough and will definitely return here.

A full English with all the components excecuted perfectly. The addition of black pudding and chorizo made it a tradional breakfast with Brazilian charm. And the second breakfast; plantain with mozzarella, battered and deep fried with poached eggs, smothered in hollandaise. Delicious. The menu is full of interesting choices we will be coming back for.

Been on Sunday for brunch and had a great experience. The atmosphere is lovely: the restaurant is colourful, the furniture and the music reproduce the Brazilian vibe and rhythms. Wide choice of options for vegetarians (and not). We shared a Samba and Carnival brunches. Both were exquisite with a great flavours match. We also had two excellent cocktails. Fair prices. Lovely staff. Definitely recommended! I will come back.

What a great little find for gluten free peeps. Good selection of dishes including options for vegetarian gluten free people like me! Plantain, cheese, corn, salad, beans and great sauces. Big portions so share dishes or go for small plates if you're not super hungry.

Went for brunch with a friend who lives nearby. Just loved the food. Great location for people watching too in the lively Brixton Market. Food and service was excellent. I will definitely go back.
