Black Bear Beefeater in Glasgow City

Fantastic meal and the service was absolutely outstanding. Nicole (Coco) was fantastic and not just to us, every single person she interacted with got treated with the same enthusiasm and she just couldn't do enough for everyone! She was the life and soul of the restaurant 🍴 and she's a credit to the Blackbear Uddingston. Thank you Nicole!! I hope you get the recognition you deserve as people like you are few and far between!

When asking how much a soft drink would be (not unlimited), was told by the server Charlotte- “Oh how would I know? There’s the menu there”. Very cheeky. Also- the portion sizes were ridiculously small. Restaurant was also very cold. BTW, the price of that bottle of coke was £3.10 for anyone reticent to ask their server.

Used to be a regular visitor at the Black Bear. Had so many bad experiences, cold food, left on hot plate, waiter service very poor. After a gap of 2/3 years thought we would try again, Sunday past. NO nothing has changed. Ordered Sunday Roast. Meat was full of fat, gravy stone cold. Vegetables limp & soggy. Yorkshire pud so hard I couldn’t cut. The waitress service was v poor. Had to end up calling other waiter for service. NEVER again. Most disappointing experience.

Went for the all you can eat breakfast with my partner, bargain at the price. Food tastes nice although comes from kitchen quite greasy, didn’t expect it to be healthy ordering 4 sausages and 4 bacon rashers and 2 fried eggs but perhaps some drip/rest time would resolve this. We were served by Debbie and she was fantastic! She was very helpful throughout giving plenty of warnings for hot food ending and continental being taken away. Her genuine warm demeanour improved my experience and brought a lovely homely feel to an otherwise generic premier-inn partnered restaurant.

On the evening we visited a lady named Rachel showed us to our table and immediately took our drinks order. She said that Nicole was to be our server. Nicole soon came over and was so very pleasant and friendly. We both ordered the saladcombo with chargrilled chicken breast with chips as an extra. Very moist and freshly made. During our meals Nicole came over to ensure everything was still okay. As we were leaving we asked for the name of the other server: Kathy. Looking forward to having another pleasant evening soon.

Food was lovely, hot, fresh, well cooked steak. My husband had this combo dish that was massive and too much for him. Big portions! Nicole our server was cheerful, polit, attentive. Really nice night for a Monday! 🙂🙂🙂

After finishing our dinner at the Black Bear Beefeater, we were asked to leave a review, so I thought I'd leave as honest one as I could; Every time we've visited the Black Bear Beefeater, myself and the partner have had fantastic service again and again from Nicole. She is an absolutely credit to the establishment, and a constant joy to be served by thanks in part due to her incredibly friendly energy. All the other members of staff, especially a gentleman who I'm embarrassed to say I didn't catch the name of, are constantly working their hearts out for the surprisingly huge amount of tables that seems to always be filled. Even with how busy the place is, Nicole and others find a way to get things done, and I can't say I've ever had food served cold or bland. At the end of the day, it's a good place to eat, but a fantastic place to see just how good quality service can mean to returning customers. 10/10 to Nicole especially.

Have been coming to the black bear for 10 years from up north. Service is fantastic as always, Pauline, Nicole, Rachel, Sean & Stewart are great, such a laugh. Highly recommend 👌

I had a nice meal in here but don’t understand why when asked for a Diet Coke, I got given a refillable one although I didn’t ask for it, plus the waitress didn’t mention it was refillable. Just saw it in the bill, £3.70 for a Diet Coke, wow!

Sat down at table. The table was sticky. Waitress attempted to clean with cloth but deep clean was required. Although lots of empty tables they were fully booked and could only offer an alternative table for 1.5 hours. Waitress told me to shut up when I said that was ridiculous surely a CLEAN TABLE is a minimum expectation in any restaurant. Manager was no help. Walked out. Will never be back.

From meeting the first lady, really felt at ease and knew we were in for a pleasant evening. The staff are very sincere and enjoy a wee bit of banter which really added to the time. The order was taken and our meals were brought by a lovely lady, name on the receipt Rachel. Know that we have found a lovely place to visit. Thanks to Rebecca, Rachel, Charlotte and Hollie. Hoping to have your names correct. We are so much looking forward to returning very soon.

Had a fab night out with friends made even better by our server Rachel. She would fit right in with us... mad as a hatter Meal was great too and service was quick. Will definitely come back... well that's if we are allowed back 🤣

Great food great service and the staff 1st class

Ordered a steak done medium and it was like chewing on an old boot.

Went this morning to try the breakfast we were left standing at desk to wait for table for 10 minutes whilst the chef and waitress both made eye contact several times but not once acknowledging us he was standing at the pass doing nothing and she was playing with cutlery at one of the 20 vacant tables it was very quiet but shocking customer service to leave us standing there that long we just left and took our business elsewhere if they can't do basics and welcome customers in correctly what standard is everything else going to be?

The waitress was fantastic, knowledgeable of the menu, and helpful with everything. The food was quite good, I had the break which was cooked to order but still no better than average. It is reasonably priced and there is outdoor seating. It is child friendly.

Food was very good. Only one waitress for the whole restaurant, who was doing the welcoming, waiting at tables and doing drinks at bar. She was doing her very best, but after 10 minutes waiting to order sweet after our meal we decided to leave. As the waitress was still very occupied with other existing and new customers, I went to the order point to try to pay the bill. At this point, another lady (possibly manageress) attended me and was rather abrupt, pointing out to me that they normally bring the bill to the table. Up to that point, she had spent most of her time on her mobile. We will not go to the Black Bear Beefeater again.

Terrible service, food seems to microwaved. (My opinion) trying to get served at the bar is a mission, staff just don't look interested unless you are a regular by the looks of it.

Food for both dinner and breakfast was really good. Catered very well for dietary requirements. Both Jodie and Debbie were fantastic as well.

We were in for lunch. I got a burger and fries. Burger was very tasty. Fries were cold. Husband ordered gammon steak, egg and chips. Chips were luke warm. The whole place was dreary and dull. Chairs were torn. Staff were friendly.

Had breakfast, which was cheap but very delicious, and they had the non hot foods in a buffet style so you can get unlimited crossiants and cereals.

All staff went out their way to make our experience great Although it was a flying visit, I will definately pop in the next time I'm in the area and hopefully get to stay longer. 10 points to the recruitment manager, they have picked a great team, making the experience what it was.... Excellent. Edit.... Another quick visit for staff meeting and breakfast. Choice and vakue for money were great. Worth a wee stop-off, although I was pleased I'd booked a table as was busy.

Went for evening meal as were staying in the Premier Inn next door. We were greeted by Andrew who was very professional, polite and courteous. We were served by Jodie who again was very friendly and polite. Went back for breakfast next morning before heading home. Food was great and good value for money. Would definitely use again if in the area.

Dined with 3 friends the menu isnt the greatest Halloumi fries were served cold and had to be sent back Fish and chips came and the fish had skin on it under the batter couldnt even eat any trying to pick skin off wouldnt recommend it We had pudding and waitress waivered the price of my pudding Bill was 4×£22-65p With 3 cokes and a water ... would i go back absolutely not Not my kind of place to dine the waitresses were lovely and chatty to us ...

Went whilst staying at the premier inn attached on a Monday night. Despite being short staffed, everyone was really friendly and the food came out really quickly. I had the chicken burger and a mock tail, both of which I would have again.

We were staying next door at the hotel for 2 nights so we came here for breakfast and evening meal. The best thing about this place is the staff. They were all very welcoming and friendly without exception. The breakfasts were ok but nothing special although no orange juice available on any of our 4 visits. The food in the evening was again ok but nothing special the lamb roast was disappointing. The vegetables were soggy, there were only 4 small pieces of overcooked lamb and it was served without gravy although I was brought a very small jug of rather strange tasting gravy when I asked for it. The second evening the staff were fantastic. There were only 2 of them and they were under extreme pressure because they were so short staffed. Some customers were turned away and there was only a small area open. The customers were all patient the staff were superb but the management of this place should quite honestly be utterly ashamed of themselves.

Staff are really welcoming and the food was amazing I and my partner had the chicken roast for Sunday Dinner and it was delicious

This is one of my favourite restaurants. Excellent food and service. Allison was our waitress today and she was attentive, very helpful and accommodating. The service was quick and Allison enquired several times if the food was good and I’d there was anything else we needed. Allison you’re an asset to the company.

I love The Black Bear! I've been coming to this restaurant for years and always thoroughly enjoy it. The food is delicious and great value for money and the staff are lovely, friendly people. Highly recommend!

Only one server working, Debbie. Debbie was excellent however overworked as there was not enough staff working. Due to this there was excessive wait times for orders to be taken, continental breakfast to be restocked, etc.

Rachel you were excellent tonight, we had great food, service was excellent couldn't have asked for more thankyou. Andrew thankyou for making sure everything was arranged perfect for the 60th birthday night.

Do not park your car here The parking anor system is not working and customers are getting fines, the management are not interested, they say its not their caprpark

We went last min on a Thursday night, ate on set menu. We’re within walking distance ( but for some reason don’t use this restaurant often as it “easier” to catch the train into town or walk up in opposite direction to local), it was raining so managed to get dropped of 20 min early than our booking. We fully expected to be in the bar but got seated right away. Manager was lovely, server was equally lovely, dinner was lovely and drinks were lovely. Did I come out of here and think “ that’s the best dinner I’ve ever had?”,, no. But I did think “ I really enjoyed my dinner, I really enjoyed my drinks, I really enjoyed my night and service was fab”. I spoke to my husband about this as it wasn’t apparent straight away what differs from here and other local places/ where we go out town to eat regularly. It came down to peace. We had our meal and drink un-interrupted but somebody was close by if we needed them. We had the chance to talk/ conversation between us without somebody asking us if meal we were clearly enjoying was ok. We weren’t rushed yet catered for. Our food and drink was exactly how we ordered. I honestly can’t remember the last time we got to enjoy our food and drinks, just talk without feeling rushed/ hounded (apologies to others who like that interaction or have to provide as part of their policy) and just got to eat out without feeling there’s a plus one at the table of the restaurant staff. Slight hiccup with the bill, the set menu didn’t deduct correctly but rectified straight away/ no issues and only mentioning to point out how even an issue was resolved. We loved it. We went out for dinner to have nice food and spend time alone and that’s exactly what we got.

Staff are lovely and very good at there job but the food just ok. Burgers where lovely and well cooked but the coleslaw that was served with them was off! And the nachos were poor and the chicken wings tiny 6.49 for 4 wings !! Kids liked there mac cheese.

Great experience Great food Amazing service Pauline the lady who works breakfast is awesome. She's so smiley and welcoming. Nothing is ever a problem for her, even when it's busy she makes sire everyone is attended to woth a warm friendly manner! We had breakfast here Sunday for my wee boys birthday and Pauline and the chef that was on made it special for him, giving him a little cars, sweets and ice cream. Great value for money and the bonus is the kids eat free. Poached eggs are delightful! Pauline thanks for making us feel so welcome, we.cant wait to come back again!

Received 2 course meal voucher as a gift so dropped in one afternoon without having to book. Food was great and they had a good lunchtime deal. All staff were lovely but a special mention to Nicole. She was so helpful, friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Great deal for breakfast, kids eat free and made to order. Waitress very polite and extremely hardworking. Give that woman a payrise! Great experience.

I have used this Beefeater for 3 weekends, while staying at the hotel next door. The service and staff were excellent. Very welcoming, friendly and a relaxed atmosphere. Pauline is amazing, one breakfast in particular, it was packed and yet she ensured everyone was attended to, all their needs were met and all with a smile on her face. Thank you! X

Attentive staff and quick service, though it was early afternoon on a weekday. Really looked after the large group I was with, with no hassles at all. Clean and tidy throughout.

Can't fault the mother's day experience. Food was excellent, service was quick and friendly despot the place being extremely busy. Will be going back very soon. Have been back a few times. Lively staff, but they pretty much always seem to be significantly under staffed for the number of customers. Management could do with getting one or two more bodies in.

Service was slow only two Waiters on and took us 10 minutes to get someone to order our deserts

Food rotten spent don't recommend service, staff nice. Salad put under the hot plate so was wilted and dries out, coleslaw was hot and lettuce was brown and off. Stay well away

We go here often, the food is fantastic. We booked Xmas last year and this year. Incredibly friendly place, from the management, the chefs, bar staff and table staff. Joyce, Christine and Charlotte are all fab, as are all of the staff. However, Allison seems to be the team member who we are fortunate enough to have serve us most of the time. Very attentive without being intrusive. Always takes time to chat and nothing is too much trouble. It’s like meeting up with a friend, always makes you feel welcome and that’s she’s happy to see you. Can’t praise highly enough. You always see and hear Allison treating all visitors with the same courtesy that we’re shown. A real credit to the Black bear. My Husband and I visited with my son , daughter in law and our grandchildren for Sunday lunch. Ore server was called Allison , she is very friendly , polite and very competent. She makes us feel very welcome, takes the orders and delivers the meals piping hot, she takes the time to speak to my Grandchildren .the food was amazing very large portions and very tasty. We tried meals and deserts from the new menu Allison rooke time to reccomend the chocolate brownie to my Granddaughter.Allison checked every thing was ok with our meal before bringing the bill. I just wish all your staff were like Allison,

Why does this place not have a Michelin star…if Heineken did bacon rolls they would make them like this. Excellent service - strapping young lad (David I think) attended to our every need.

Can give stars for service as only hot drinks were purchased at this time. Further visits would be required to fully complete this review. Staff were very helpful.

Took advantage of 40% off mains this weekend! Cocktails were nice and well presented for the price. We got the steak sampler and every steak was cooked to the way we asked. Service was a bit slow but overall good meal with family

We came here tonight as we were staying in the Premier Inn next door. First impressions not good dirty carpets dirty tables all over. Was told they didn't have about 10 things on the menu. My chicken burger came and it was burnt to a cinder, I asked for bbq sauce and was told yes you can have it but there would be a charge!!! Wow when 4 of you are spending over £100. Beefeater you are a joke. Left the waitress a good tip as she was a good waitress and was totally embarrassed by our experience.

Got charged 99p for a change of sauce with mushrooms. Not overly impressed.
