£44 for four fish suppers… we expected big things from these. Unfortunately, we were all disappointed. The quality of fish was poor, very dry and lacking any flavour. Batter was also quite poor and the chips were… well they were OK I guess but only just. One to avoid I’m afraid, can’t see any awards coming Bene’s way on this performance.

40 min late, cold , poor quality , different ingredients than I ordered. I have ordered lots of food before but certainly not enough to order again

I wish I had read the reviews before I ordered two fish suppers.definitely been reheated from lunchtime or burnt, I got salt and sauce on them and they put so much sauce on the fish to try and soften the batter it didn’t work it only ruined the chips. Avoid

Fish tacos, rancid. Opened the box to the awful smell of spoiling fish and it was completely inedible. If you value your life, don't bother.

No fresh Haddock anymore! Yer right next to a fishing harbour! HAKE keep that for the Spanish! We had Smoked Haddock (5 of 10), Haggis , no batter? (2 out of 10 ) any skinnier and it would slip through the sides of the box. Salt and Pepper Squid (10 out of 10), Chicken Burger ( 7 out of 10) Get yer fish sorted ya miserable lot! We’ll not be back. Regular Customer.

Bene's fast food in Port Seton. Great food, great carry-out phone in & collect service, reasonable prices. Special chicken kebab: we ordered 2 small ones, which were easily big enough. Super chicken, pitta, salad, 3 sauces, and the special vedge (peppers, mushrooms etc) were lovely. Fish n chips with S&V & brown sauce. Yum! Fish was fresh and tasty in perfect batter with more chips the we could eat. 12"pizza with mushroom & salami & smoked sausage topping (specially requested extra), a wonderful, tasty pizza. 4 great meals for about £40, that's £10 each!! Good value these days, & no washing up! What's not to like about that?

Firstly i ordered bruschetta. It was bad cheese on toast with so sliced tomato on top. One of the dishes we ordered was sent incorrectly. Only good thing about this order is it was delivered on time

They only do the vegan menu during the week and didn't bother to write on the site that the chips are cooked in beef fat! So avoid if you are veggie or Hindu. They clearly don't care enough to clearly state it! Only points I can give is the honesty of the women on the phone!

Great food and you could eat from here all week if you didn’t want to cook whilst on holiday. Great choice of menu and puddings too

Sadly first time trying Bene this evening not sure will try again. Ordered by telephone was told to collect 10/15 min was there in 10 after 25 min still there as delivery chaps filling bags. 35 min was given 3 fish suppers 4 min drive home both fish and chips were not even lukewarm, phoned to complain and was told they left shop hot 🙄 my impression they were very busy but not happy that over £20 pounds wasted. I think they will need to do better 🤔😡

Found this place on the off chance while visiting from Yorkshire and I can honestly say it’s the best takeaway I’ve ever been to.. So much choice there’s literally something for everyone. Gorgeous food and friendly helpful staff. 5 ⭐️

Ordered half pizza and chips to be delivered, delivered opened and threw it in bin wouldn’t feed it to the dog , Pizza was over cooked and chips were crap , phoned to complain to be greeted with that’s tough. If that’s the customer service that they incorporate they need to get new staff , Please read reviews before placing order, Won’t be back🤢

Popped by here on the way home from shopping! The gentleman frying said it would be 15 minutes for chips. On asking for 2 fresh burgers as the ones lying appeared dry and no batter on them. When returning to check if there was fresh burgers, a women came through speaking very loud saying ‘there’s no fresh ones’ quite abrupt. We said it’s ok, we will wait on chips. Standing outside this lady behind the counter was ‘f’ing and ‘c’ing along with her delivery drivers. Her manner, besides her foul language was disgusting!! Won’t be back!

Ordered a large chips. The female behind the counter asked 3 times if there was enough chips for a large chips. By the portion we received there clearly wasn’t and makes me wonder if she asked 3 times to push that there was enough. The chips looked and tasted as if they had been sitting for ages. Certainly not fresh. The potion size was a joke. I have never seen a large chips that was as small. Overall very disappointing.

Highly recommend Benes, fantastic huge choice of Menu. Everything is always freshly cooked, the staff who work in both Port Seton & Prestonpans shop are always professional, friendly, sociable and work efficiently.

Ordered pizza from here came 2 hours laters with thick black hairs through it, when called up to complain staff were rude and said it was our fault!

Heard great things about this place was sorely disappointed. Fish supper and hamburger supper fish burnt hamburger had dry batterthe chips were really good though. Also had pasta which had no flavour at all. How can they make such great chips but fail at the rest, also staff sullen and unfriendly.

What can I say just awful!!! Ordered sausage and chips for a child out the kids menu section I couldn't even cut through the batter, the chips were all burnt looking crisps and didn't even resemble a chip.Ordered a Munchie box and everything inside I wouldn't have fed to a dog, kebab meat like shoe leather, chicken pakora all batter and no chicken, the onion pakora hard and tough, and the pizza burnt and inedible. Called them to complain and they sent delivery driver to collect the food so they could inspect it and as we attempted to eat it they only refunded half of the cost! joke will never return and not recommend to anyone.

Ordered portion Fresh onion rings, usually in a long rectangle tray. Tonight received in a small square box and they were like the cheap crappy frozen ones out of supermarket. So would like clarification of fresh onion rings and frozen onion as I asked for a Fresh, which to me is an onion chopped, dipped in batter and fried.

Fresh, succulent fish, great chips and a good sized portion. Well worth the one hour wait and this was when we pre-ordered. Collection process was unclear and the overall process seems a bit shamolic. All was forgiven when the whole family enjoyed their fish suppers. Would go again!

We are currently on holiday and decided to get a chippy from benes fish and chip shop. On arrival to the shop, we should've just walked out after being completely ignored by the shop staff for approx. 5 mins. However we chose to percivere. Our oder was misunderstood several times, and we felt that we were being shouted at by staff. We then had to wait 15 mins for our order of two fish suppers, a half pizza and chips and cheese. We felt stressed after the way we were spoken to, and were so happy to be exiting such a tense environment. Once back at the cottage, we discovered the food lukewarm and not very edible. We didn't enjoy our food, and would absolutely NOT recommend this chippy, for the reasons of TERRIBLE customer service, and inedible food. Very disappointing.....

We ordered our food at 6.40pm, received a delivery time for 7.45pm. Didn't mind as we assumed the restaurant would be a bit busy. I received a notification saying my order was on the way at 7.40pm, again Didn't mind if the order was a bit on the other side of 7.45pm. Then the time ticks on so I ask JustEat to check the status of my order. My delivery time was then updated with the message "we are busier than usual" with a time of 8.15pm. It arrived at 8.20pm. But how long would we have been sat waiting had I not asked JustEat to check the status, because as far as I was aware my meal was with the driver and on the way...I understand that due to the ongoing issues outwith benes control may have put a higher demand on their business, but once I had received the notification from them that it was with the driver, it allowed medication to be taken as the timeframe between taking it and eating would be perfect. However this was not the case and it honestly annoyed me. Food wise, the donner pizza that was ordered the grease had soaked the bottom of the box. The poutine that was ordered, has bundles of *extremely crispy some burnt bacon. Bundles meaning these have been cooked in a small tower formation. Not evenly scattered, as we have had previously. And the poutine wasn't the warmest, not cold but still lacking some heat. We also ordered 3 slices of cheesecakes. One red velvet, two sticky toffee pudding. My parents have had these before and were really looking forward to them.Upon seeing the cheesecake, my dad is so disappointed he isn't even going to eat it. It's a lot smaller slices then they have had previously, for the same price tag. Meaning the large container allowed the slice to move around before we received it, which also meant that the inside of the container was covered in the sad looking cheesecake. After seeing how others have been treated by staff and management, we did not seek to endure their terrible service again. Won't be back. First takeaway of lockdown and wish we hadn't bothered.

Well this is what we received after ordering a chicken wrap, as you can see not only is it some kind of unrecognisable meat it’s also a pile of mush. To add to the miserable meal I ordered a simple cheese and tomato pizza but that was a miserable fail as well, basically just a greasy half burnt mess in a box. Please respond I will be very interested to hear what you have to say cause this is a disgrace.

If I could give this place a zero out of five I would.The most disgraceful service and attitude I have ever received.We ordered a delivery, which on arrival was completely wrong. When phoning to let them know that they had got the order wrong we were faced by nothing but abuse and told that it wasn't their mistake, it was ours! So, we received food that none of us ordered, or even liked & did not receive the things we had ordered. Now surely good practice would dictate that you would apologise and rectify the matter?.......well, not in this place.We were told that they would send us missing items from our order, but we would have to pay for them (again), even though we had already paid. When we said we did not want the items that were wrong, we were told that they would not replace then, as they didn't know what me might have done with the food (surely to god they were no going to re sell it)The staff were abusive and put the phone down on us.....great way to treat your customers.When I called back to speak to the manager, he could not be less helpful if he tried. After getting nowhere, & being left with food we could not eat, I told him that we were loyal customers, but after being treated like this we most certainly would not be back.....his answer to that was "so what, I'm not bothered".ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL & DISGUSTING.Do not order from here, they will steal your money & then give you abuse

This is the premier fish & chip shop. A choice of fish (usually more than four species..haddock, monkfish, hake, etc). Chips are a bit thick and fatty for my taste but most of my friends like them. They do lots of cholesterol rich fried food also (pies, sausages, etc) . The Pizzas are goodish.

After checking in to Seton Sands we were told to try Benes. Fish was freshly cooked and chips were delicious!!! Will try again before we go home.

We ordered a carry out which took an hour and a half to come, then went to sit down and have it only to smell the cheese on the pizza was stinking, am now an hour after eating it and feel terrible. Won’t be back.

I visited this Fish & Chip shop and stood 20 minutes to get served,then given a ticket to stand and wait again for my order,very poor way to serve customers.I then paid £15 for 2 fish suppers,which had the smallest portion of chips in each.This place is obviously only about profit not customer service or portion control. Staying at seton sands caravan park we Decided to Try Benes, Lovely Suppers and Pizza, place always gets good recommendation for its Fish and made fresh, have to wait 20 minutes only to be served food that was ready when you came in, not able to cope with busy times very well.

I recently had a take away (a treat after a busy few days) and was a little disappointed in the portion size of my chips which arrived cold. I had ordered the 'supper' sized chips but if that was supper size goodness knows how small the smaller portion is! They were stone cold when they arrived.I ordered the 'Special Fish'. No description on the menu to what this was but it turned out to be a large piece of cod in breadcrumbs. That was delicious.

Omg just had actual abuse from staff at Benis chip shop in Port Seton. Took burnt fish and chips back to them assistant gave me another said it will be the same. Then i asked for my chips as she didnt put any in she then aggresiveaggressively threw in a few. I said i hadnt touched the chips. Her reply was im not being funny darling there was hardly any in the there. I said im.not being funny i hadnt touched them. I said just give me my money back. The owner shouted just give her it back better to give her type the money back. I said omg im been coming here reguarly for years and i have never complained . I also voted them best chip shop in the Lothians .When my family had a fish and chip buisness we would never had treated a loan female customer like this.So nasty couldnt believe how quick they started insulting me. Been going here for over 15 years what a way to treat a regular customer in front of 20 other customers. My parents had also stopped going too they told me due to burnt over cooked fish. Visited on Friday tea time and could see the place was quite busy. I asked for fish n chips and paid the £7.50 and was asked to wait and they would call out when ready. I waited for almost half an hour which I didn’t mind really as I knew the food would be fresh and the staff looked a bit under pressure as it was a very busy spell. When the girl called out ‘fish n chips ‘ I was mortified to be accused by the girl in charge ( Black rimmed glasses)of not having been served. I said I had been waiting almost half an hour. After a few minutes they called out again ‘fish n chips’ . I then said YES.. that’s me. One of the girls gave me the food and then asked me to pay the £7.50 which I said I had ALREADY PAID. It’s sounds petty but rather embarrassing in front of a busy shop to be accused of skipping the queue and then to be asked to pay again. I would say ‘sort out your staffing during busy spells’ but don’t think I will return really.MAN WITH HAT

I got a delivery and it was lovely, the great thing was I had not got sauce for my supper's the last time as missing, was very disappointing but when I mentioned it this time I got to speak to the manager who said he was very sorry and would put in a few, I got a big carton it was brilliant will last for a while. Really liked that. You might have to wait a bit at busy times but the always advise this and the delivery guy is great.

Bad customer service. Asked for fresh king rib as the 2 that were lying had been lying for 25 mins maybe longer as shop was really busy. Manager refused my request. Customer is always right - not in this case. Won't return - manager needs to learn some people skills - bad management. Disappointed!

I have used this chip shop severl times when i'm in Port Seton and the food is really tastie, it is not unusual for you to wait about 5 or 10 mins before you get served.

Ordered food online so the food would be cooking while we waited online. On arrival my daughter was informed they hadn't even started to cook our order and we woUld have to wait a further 10 minutes. After waiting in the car for 40 minutes I eventually went in myself to see what the problem was to be told we are very busy tonight no apology just a very rude member of staff who I later on found out was the manager. Think next time we will go back to our usual takeaway Superfry at Longniddry efficient well mannered staff and lovely food.

Bought fish, chips and black pudding tonight. Asked for crispy fish, what a disappointment. Black pudding was cold. Won’t be back. Be using Carlo’s from now on.

We ordered a fish supper, a smoked sausage supper and a cheese burger at about 8pm and were told it would be under an hour for delivery. After 1 hour and 20 minutes I called to complain at the length of time taken to be told our order was next in line, to say I was angry was an understatement and let them know. Ten minutes later it arrived with the excuse it was the football and they were packed out and everyone was in the same boat. My daughter went down after being at ours when this was going on and found the shop empty with staff just hanging about and ordered a fish supper and said could she take our order to deliver to us and said it wasn't even cooked yet and this was after we called. Utter disgrace and, to add insult to injury the burger appeared without a bun and no salad. They need to realise there are better options out there.

When seeing the queue out of the door, we decide to get our fish and chips here. Massive portions of freshly cooked food. We ordered 2 suppers and a single between 3 of us. Next time we’ll order 1 supper and 2 singles.

We bought haddock fish and chips and oh, my word. So dang good. The breading was out of this world. They made it fresh right in front of us. Then we took it to a picnic table by the water and enjoyed every last bit of it. The fish was as big as my HEAD!

so disapointed. my chips were full of black bits and unedible cook claimed the chips were freshly cooked wihout black bits. my burger fell to pieces with disgusting rubbery cheese. attitude from staff was shocking get a grip its 2018!!!!

Can not say how food was as placed order at 18.15 to have to phone at 19.45 to find out where it was. Told that it had just left shop and would be with in 10 mins.by a polite young man. At 20.30 we had to phone again to be told that it would be another 15 mins by a very irate older man when I questioned this he shouted at me I was being ridiculous and hung up. In end went elsewhere, not a great way to conduct a business.

Great food. Rubbish service. Waiting for over an hour as expected. But after an hour and a half I called to see if it was coming. Told it was a minute away. Did not arrive. Phoned to ask where it was. Advised to cancel. Man on the end of the phone was disgraceful. Rude and dismissive. Will not be back.

This fish and chip shop is really good, large portions, lots to chose from with kebabs, pizza, pasta and chip shop food. We were staying at Seton Sands and came across it by chance then ordered a secon night for delivery to caravan. Totally recommended.

Having received a pamphlet through the door, advertising home delivery, we decided to use the service. We ordered fish and chips and a pasta dish. Order phoned in around 8.00 pm and we had a call half an hour later informing us that some of the ingredients were not available for the pasta dish. Decided to cancel that order, but keep the fish and chips. They were finally delivered at 9.20, an hour and 20 mins since the order was placed, and they were cold. Will not be using home delivery again.

We get our fish and chips here every week and you can’t fault the quality of the food or the portion sizes. However, not only are there long waits in the shop but when we asked for a home delivery tonight it took nearly 90 minutes to arrive. Not acceptable.

Go here regularly if I fancy a fish supper and never been disappointed.They have a sit-in area,but I've never used it.

I'm fed up going in there and being told "it'll be 10 minutes", tonight was the last time. It wasn't busy yet they had no food out, like it's such a surprise that you might need to make some more. No one minds waiting a few minutes but 10 mins+ cmon is it really that difficult to keep supply turning over, especially fish?

Ordered from here a few times but in the shop. Usually chips are nice. Decided on home delivery tonight. Waited hour and a half. And the Chips were disgusting. How you could happily send them out is a disgrace. The bottom of my pizza was so burnt it was uneatable had to scrap/cut it off. Luckily my children pizzas were cooked well and tasted not bad. Decided to give them a chance over my more local and deeply regretted it.

I have tried to visit on numerous occasions, but you always have to wait, even when you call in an order and arrive to collect at the appointed time (45 minutes later) you are told to join the queue at pay and collect, totally defeating the idea of calling in the order in advance!

Some of the best fish and chips in Cockenzie and Port Seton! Nice friendly staff and very reasonable prices. I have also had a really tasty burger from here that came with a hot and spicy sauce and it was lovely. Even my dad (78) liked it a lot!

Reasonable price food, fish was massive and is the best fish I have tasted in ages. On a second occasion chose the spicy haggis personally I found it tasteless and would not have again.

We order from here pretty much every time we get a chippy. When my family from England visit they always ask to get chips from here.

We ordered two pizzas. I had a calzone, the grease was running from it and had actually soaked the box. My partners pizza wasn't much better, neither of us finished our food.

If you want a lump of warmed up cheese as a pizza go here. Horrible and when I phoned to say the phone got put down on me.

We go golfing in this area sometimes & came across this choppy a few years ago, I must say its one the best chippy's I've ever had. The fish is wonderful & so big n fresh ! You don't really need the chips with it.

Clearly a popular place with locals. We drive the not too great distance from Musselburgh, because all the chippies there are rubbish (check your job description guys, and check out those who are clearly doing the right job and up your game). If you time it right you won't have to Q for long, but if you do, you are pretty likely to get the fish and chips straight out of the fryer! We eat ours in the car, as it would be a shame to spoil them on the drive home, because they are very very good. Last night's fish were so big we couldn't finish 1 supper and a single fish between us.

Stood waiting for 5 minutes to place order, staff didn't seem interested. Finally invited to place order with server when totalled asked to pay by card and found out they charge you 50p for the privilege, very underhand and cheeky it's not like I was just buying a bag of chips.

I visit this fish and chip shop regularly and I am always happy it with and enjoy the food. It's also in a great location so if it's a sunny evening you can enjoy your chips by the harbour. Yum!

Sausage Supper used to be two large sausages, got three small ones this time. Husband said that sausages were chewy. I had to wait on king rib being cooked, but the batter all fell off. Portion of chips was smaller too. Both had diarrhea the next morning.

Decided to try out the new local chippie and wasn't sure where they originated from, so went into chippie in the Thornybank, near the Sainsbury Local, and big queue of folks suggested good food and was not disappointed, tried to have a Fish Supper, £6.40, the fish was Huge , and the quantity of chips, it was going to be for two of us, and we split meal between us, glad we did, I would challenge anyone of regular or small appetite to fully eat the Supper and not feel full up. other varieties of food on the menu and am sure will have cause to use it again. Really was a meal and then some, good quality fish and chips,.

This has to be the best place for not just Fish and Chips but any fast food that they have available. They are always busy and I think this always shows its a great place. There food is always fresh and not like some chippys where stuff lays for ages in the hot cabinet. If you like a mix of everything try one of their Munch Boxes, chips, pizza, kebab meat, salad, pakora, baji and sauces, but beware the big one takes some eating

Getting our takeway took 25 mins, which is absurd for a 'fast food' restaurant. During this time the poor battered fish was busy desiccating under the unrepentant glare of the servery. By the time we were in a position to eat it we found that the fish had found the temperature a tad overwhelming and had shrunk to the size of a minnow, hiding in the corner of the batter. It was dry as dust.
