Chips lovely, fish not so lovely. Batter as hard as hell. I swear the fish was cooked first thing then warmed up. All three fish for the family were the same. Sorry but we're back to the bottom fish and chips shop.

The best chip shop in the area! The potato fritters are lush and take me back.

By far the best Fish and Chip shop in the valley, in my opinion much better than the local ‘award winners’ food is always fresh and piping hot and of the best quality. Service may be a little slow at busy times but the freshness certainly makes up for it!

Best fish and chips in south wales

Can't beat it, staff friendly and helpful and the prices are considerably lower than expected.

Went here yesterday had cod and chips found two grey hairs in there also chips were horrible won’t eat here again

Food is good, however the service is very slow, headless chickens and asthmatic snails come to mind. When it comes to wrapping up the food, remember it’s fried food not an expensive gift from John Lewis. Faster service is needed, otherwise you’ll lose customers to quicker rivals….

If I could rate this fish bar more I would, I haven't been here for years but I'm glad I did. Food was top notch... VERY cheap lovely decor inside and staff are lovely. I love the fact there is an ice cream counter too. Amazing. Will be returning.

Very nice fish and chips, well packaged to take home, stayed warm, and fast service. First time we've been here since the refit, 100% improvement. Will be using again. About 2 weeks on, we used again. Not half as nice. The batter on the fish was rubbery as though it had been kept warm a long time, they didn't serve it in boxes with the chips like last time, just all wrapped in paper. Very disappointed, not so keen to go there again, has potential to be very good, but not consistent, won't know if I'm gonna get a fresh fish or a rubbery one. Noticed there were sausages in the range that looked shrivelled and pies with sunken tops, i should have guessed everything had been hanging around a while. Shame. Might try somewhere else next time.

Beech tree small fish and chips bar in Ystrad Mynach with a selection of Fish, Chicken, Beef items as well as varieties of ice creams. Have visited multiple times and have tried Fish & Chips (~2 £) , Burger in batter (~2 £) , Quarter chicken (for 4.5 £) & Sausages from here. Everything on the menu is cheap and affordable, probably because it has schools in the vicinity. The staff is hospitable & the service is also quick. They give out tokens for orders after the payment. The place is well maintained, with minimal seating (2 benches facing the window), and is always clean and well maintained. The place is very accessibility, situated on the corner of the road in the beginning on High Street. The best Chippy in Ystrad by a country mile. Called in today for the 1st time instead of having the usual dregs from New Ystrad fish bar. This place is superb. Freshly cooked chips and delightful service and very efficient . This will now be my local chippy. Superb place

They only use the best quality produce, the food is delicious. The shop is tastefully decorated and welcoming whether you want their delicious fish and chips or their fabulous ice creams. Great value for money.

Stopped in on the way to Cwmbran as we were starving. I would go out of my way to get chips here. They weren't greasy, they were hot, fresh, and really tasty. We arrived 10 mins before closing and there was still really good food on offer. We had 3 jumbo sausage, a pie, a rissole, 2 large chips, a chips and beans, and 5 cans for just over 23 quid. All my teenagers are stuffed which never happens to the seemingly bottomless pits. Amazing.

Fantastic food from Angelo and the team as usual! I am from Bath originally and since moving to Wales almost 9 years ago, The Beech Tree Fish Bar has become a firm favourite of mine, especially over the last year. The improvements they have made have taken the bar from strength to strength. High quality food, beautifully packaged and despite the hard financial climate, really well priced and great value for money. For myself, my fiancé, my daughter (and a sausage for each of my dogs!) we had one large chips, two fish cakes, a lamb and mint pie, and the two sausages for the dogs plus three personalised ice cream tubs for £21. We were all well and truly full and had chips left over! The staff are extremely friendly, welcoming, and always have a smile on their faces, despite being rushed off their feet the majority of the time. My parents came from Bath the other week to visit and we had dinner from Angelo and the team, and they spoke extremely highly of the food too! Next time they come over, they insist on having another meal from The Beech Tree Fish Bar. Fantastic food, great service and great value - even if the queue is going down Ystrad high street, wait in line, it’s worth it! Keep up the great work! :)

This the 2nd time I've been here since Christmas. First time was really nice. 2nd time however, not so. Went here Mon 25th April 6pm ish. Ordered gravy and chips x2 fishcake x1 bread roll. Young blondish girl served me. Short. I could of sworn she used a MICROWAVE to cook my fishcake. Yes. She took the fishcake from the fridge and put it in the MICROWAVE for a few mins. Having left the shop and started to eat the food the food was no wear near the high quality of our first visit. The gravy was like water. The chips were v greasy. The fishcake was like rubber and the breadcrumb coating was SOGGY FROM THE MICROWAVE. YUK. AVOID. INFORMING ENVIROMENTAL HEALTH. DISGUSTING

Without a doubt the best chip shop in the area. Excellent service, good price and delicious every time. We go regularly on a Friday and order from big Nelson office’s and always faultless and thorough.

Just ordered 3 cod and chips, portion small for the price, other chip shops give you more for your money, food at supermarket level nothing special, so on that basis it’s very expensive if it’s at supermarket level, I would not go there again, there’s 2 other chip shops in the area I would highly recommend, to the customer service was very poor as well

Always went to The Beech chip shop however,the last twice I've been disappointed. The fish wasn't cooked fresh and the chips were almost cold ..the batter on fish was very greasy not like It used to be. . The reason I always went out of my way to buy from here was because it was all cooked fresh.i bought fish and chips yesterday evening around 5 pm and was worse than the time before,im sorry to say ill be giving them a miss in future, I dont mind waiting for it to be cooked,as long as its fresh. reluctantly ill go elsewhere in future until they improve. Such a shame. Revised review Called in tonight and what a change. Piping hot and freshly cooked. I must have called in at wrong time before but I'm glad I tried it again to my delight. Thank you.

A pretty typical fish and chip shop offering the same kind of menu as hundreds of other similar establishments across South Wales. The food here is cooked well and the prices are reasonable. Chips are always good and rarely are they greasy, which is what you want from a decent bag of fried potato chunks. The staff are friendly and you always get service with a smile. However, this place is quite popular and as a result there can be a fairly large queue at peak times, especially when they're waiting for a batch of chips to be cooked. No nonsense, simple food done well.

Incredible customer service, outstanding food and real value for money. I only go back here roughly about three times a year and I love popping in. The owners are so friendly and I enjoy chatting to the other customers and staff :) If only all chip shops were like this one :)
