Beatties in Belfast

First stop in town, having driven up from the Dublin ferry. This was the first chipper we came across. The pasty and the chips were pretty good, but the fish was just - meh! But defo did the job of filling my empty stomach and I thought the chip portion size was good.

Thought it was very expensive for the very little food I ordered. The burger was nice but chips weren't. Very overpriced considering the food wasn't that nice. First time visiting but won't be back again unfortunately. Only positive was didn't have to wait long for the food.

On a walk called in for breakfast. Having been before was was expecting better. Door was open early. Asked could get served no problem. Have to say eggs where very hard and bread over cooked. Expected better.

I was wandering around Belfast aimlessly today as I had to leave my car in for a service. I came across this fabulous fish and chip shop and in spite of not being overly hungry I ordered a large portion of chips with curry sauce. The chips were the best I'd had in years! The staff were super efficient and super busy getting meals ready for people in local businesses. I would highly recommend this establishment.

Ordered a cod today at lunchtime for takeaway so far so good got home opened the paper bag lifted out my wrapped cod thought that’s a bit light opened the paper and cut into it basically just batter and less fish than you would find in your average fish finger absolutely dreadful avoid like the plague I’ll never be back

We normally get this sine as an order with fried onions on the Big Food (large hotdog) also normally as for cod supper to be well done as like it nice and crisp! Always gorgeous, generous portions and good value. You can’t beat a Beatties has been local chippy for a lifetime!

I asked if I could pay the extra to swap the drink to a diet drink, because I am diabetic I only drink sugar free, I explained this to the staff member. She just said " 'no!', you can't, its what it says in the window". when I asked why I couldn't just pay the difference in price that was listed in the menu, I was told "No, you can't, we just work here, take it up with the owner!". The nasty manner and sour face of the rude staff member, put me off the food before I even got it. I could clearly see the other staff member who had taken my order, was embarrassed. Thankfully I didn't order a big meal, because the food was truly awful. The chips were re-heated and mostly black, and the chicken was re-heated, frozen bread crumbed chicken. While the chicken was edible the chips had to be thrown in the bin. I certainly won't ever be back

Very average at best. Chips quite good. Everything frozen. The staff made no attempt to hide the fact that they took all the items out of the freezer. Why am I paying money for someone to cook a frozen fish for me. Or should I say overcook. I could just buy a frozen fish from the super market and get the same effect. Not cheap either.

Not quite the same as I remember from long ago, but still a nice fish supper. I had to stop in for the sake of nostalgia and have lunch here. Ordered cod suppers and enjoyed them very much. Service was friendly and efficient, portions were generous and fairly priced.

They offer a deal. Spend over £10 get free onion rings. When I mentioned it I was told sorry none left. Nothing else offered. Also was not asked if I wanted salt and vinegar!! Strange

Nice chippy. One of my favourites in Belfast. Plenty of chips with their meal. Only critics would be that the chips tend to get stuck on the paper but there are so many u don't mind. Love the batter on their cod. Really good prices for what you get.

There is a direction of travel for traditionally good eateries in Belfast to skimp on quality. In the past Belfast could boast of the best breakfast/chippies in the country. Alas this is no longer the case, this is the second meal I've had in Belfast this week and the second time I've had to make do with the brown sauce sludge from makro. To be clear there is only one brown sauce and that's HP. Heating the plates and serving warm food shouldn't be a stretch either. Come on Belfast, the country establishments are beating you by miles.
