Great quality food, with excellent service.

Visited for Sunday lunch. Absolutely stunning food, plenty on the plate. Brilliant service.

We visited the restaurant for lunch on Friday without a reservation and were promptly seated. We appreciated the pleasant ambiance. The friendly staff kindly explained the items that were unavailable on the menu. We ordered fish and chips, moules with fries, and pork belly. The food was exceptionally delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed our first meal in Wales.

Our waitress Mel was outstanding, nothing was too much trouble, made our evening, the food is tremendous, would definitely recommend 👌

We went there as a family sitting out side over the past three years, and the out side food menu was superb. Unfortunately, they changed the outside menu for the worse!. Fishfinger sandwich for £11 pounds is a no no. They got rid of their fabulous beef burger and chips and many other meals that are great and substituted with cheaper products, but charging the earth. Shame the outside menu has gone down hill. Inside I think is ok.

Called in my first time today for a daytime snack overall excellent visit. Staff were most helpful, polite and atmosphere was so relaxed. Food was fresh and full of taste.

Prices are a bit higher than some places but the cost reflects the quality of the food. Ordered off the bar menu and was really happy. Staff are very friendly and there is a relaxed atmosphere. 100% recommend this place for anyone looking somewhere to eat. Personal recommendation is the fish and chips. Will definitely be back if I'm ever in the area again

Generally a pleasant experience. Food was good but not exceptional and quite expensive. The staff were pleasant. We had a lovely bottle of wine.

An overall brilliant couple of hours. Popped in for a drink ended up ordering 2 of the sandwiches which were beautiful. Great portions made to a good standard. Great service. With a good knowledge of the beers. Big shoutout to Mark the young barman. Great at his job. Spoke very well and polite. Never stopped & always busy. Look forward to return again ! 👍 🍺

Popped in on a Sunday without booking. As there was no room in the restaurant we sat on the deck overlooking the bay. Sunday lunch was excellent. Would recommend.

We stopped in after a long walk from Llantwit Major and couldn’t get a table in the restaurant but sat in the bar. The bar wasn’t table service but the food was very good, it’s a nicely done out place and great relief after walking past the food places and pubs around coney beach. We had the chicken and bacon salad and a cheeseburger which were both very nice. The wine was nice too.

Visited this restaurant many times in the past. Asked to move tables as it was virtually empty as there was a rowdy table behind us. Was rudely told you’re the only person complaining about it by the obnoxious manager. Me and my family walked out immediately. Rest of the staff were lovely. Absolute shame as the restaurant looks like it’s been through a rebranding. Will not be visiting again. Shame the manager has no people skills

Only called in for coffee which was lovely, but the place was cold! I was glad we weren't staying to eat! Called in again today for a coffee and it's a lot warmer - well it is the middle of March! Very popular for Sunday lunch, restaurant bit was filling up when we were there just about noon. Advise booking if you want to eat. Called in again for coffee, it's a nice, warm day today so quite busy there. It's had a name change hasn't it? It was The Harbour. Now it's 1832, the year it was built. I really don't like the seating in the bar area. Settees, high stools, or boil by the huge windows!! I think this might be my Winter coffee place.........if they heat it up!!

We had a fabulous bank holiday Sunday yesterday. Food was outstanding - none of us could fault a thing - Alex was a brilliant server & all the team work so well together to provide a lovely experience. The afternoon. Was topped off by the brilliant singer in the bar - 5 Stars - we highly recommend!

Visited this evening for our anniversary dinner. What a beautiful building and in a great location. This place will be heavenly in the summer. Anyway, Mel who served us was lovely, attentive and non intrusive. The food was absolutely awesome, we couldn't fault it. Great flavours with every bite. The drinks were stunning, great wine and gorgeous cocktails. Can't wait to go back and try more.

I had two courses, stater a pork belly with garnish which was extremely tasty and wild mushroom linguine, both very nice dishes.

Managed to sort us walk-ins a table for two on an already busy, and buzzy, Saturday night. Food was excellent. Service was spot-on. Fast, efficient, attentive but not intrusive. Mains and dessert with a bottle of wine and a good tip was £40.

Great experience. Food best aspect along with first class customer service. Only negative for me was the noise levels. That can't be helped though, it's an old custom house built 1863 and acoustics create a noisy atmosphere. If you like the buzz then that's great this is the place definitely great food and service. Good views. It's clean, the reception is welcoming , everything is efficient. Toilet is very clean. Reasonably priced. Sunday lunch is superb. The fish and chips are the best ever. The fish is big and the batter is perfect. Great for family party's and there were two birthday parties there when I went on Sunday. Caitlin was a great server . Nothing too much trouble and it was nice to see smiles. Well done, it's what Porthcawl has been needing for decades.

Sunday lunch served warm..had to wait 15 mins for afters as they were doing the starters?? Have been many times but they are declining. Need to warm the plates up prior to serving as we saw them at the pick up point for ages. Will return in the summer hopefully will improve. £25 for a couple so should be better.

First time back in 5 years and the food was amazing I had steak burger my partner had the beef ale pie.... beef ale pie was wow both meals were amazing. Staff very friendly it was a little quiet but what do uou expect for a weekday in February. Finished off with Margaritas 🍹 😋 bang on well done guys!!

Visited on a Friday afternoon, outside of the holiday season. The food was ok, but nothing more than you would get at a local chain pub, though the prices are a lot more than your local pub. Staff were friendly, but atmosphere was a bit dull. Not sure if I would return.

What a wonderful place to eat. The views of the sea were outstanding, the food was beautiful and reasonable. The atmosphere was great and the cleanliness couldn't be faulted. Special thanks to Mel for making our day great. Be back soon!

Visited with my partner for new years and we pop in here and there throughout the year. I can't comment on the food as I've never eaten there but bar staff are nice and drinks good.

Really lovely beef and ale pie and mash, great location

Food was very good and we enjoyed on the whole. The staff were friendly too but we found the restaurant on the chilly side and the wait on food was quite long. Given this was the week between Christmas and New year and Wales was being battered by storms I think there must have been some extenuating circumstances

Really nice food done differently...although not cheap. Good service and atmosphere...it was cold in there but its a very large open environment and it wasn't very busy. Would go back.

Superb Sunday dinner Friendly staff. Always welcoming

Went with friends this evening, very noisy as busy and were put on a large table for 4 of us. When we asked to move to a smaller table to be able to talk we were told all fully booked even though not all occupied at the time of asking. The background noise became even worse when the live music started, and we all struggled to hear each other across the table. Would have benefited from the singer (who was good) starting later than 8pm. Food was really good however.

Had a large family gathering here for my brother’s birthday in October. Absolutely faultless from start to finish. The food was great and timed to perfection (despite us holding up the timing slightly with some late arrivals). Becky the manager was fantastic throughout and couldn’t have been more helpful. Everyone enjoyed the food and had a great night. This really is a lovely place with delicious food (I highly recommend the scallops!) and a great atmosphere, Becky, I cannot thank you enough for accommodating us and ensuring we all had a great evening. You made this birthday surprise a great success. I only wish I lived locally I would undoubtably be a regular but will most definitely be back on my next visit. A definite 5 stars!

Not cheap but cant fault the food. We had cod and chips and fillet steak both highly recomended. The building and views are special. Service great too.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch. A few things ran out a bit early, but our second choices were lovely.

Have usually had good experiences at this restaurant. We had booked a table for two and had enjoyed a drink at the bar first. When we went for our table at the allotted time, we were taken to a table by the open door and directly underneath an air conditioning vent. I remarked that it was very cold there and could we have one of the two empty tables that were available. We were told that they were booked. (We had booked also.) As the meals are quite expensive, it would not have been a pleasant dining experience, so we decided to leave. It is a shame no attempt was made to offer an alternative table.

Lovely open spaced area with lovely sitting areas. Not a bad view from the windows either. We had a party of around fifteen and they sorted everything with no issues. Can't comment on drinks prices though as I don't drink. Highly recommend and will go again

We booked a table here on the day for later in the evening; the restaurant was understandably very busy presumably on account of the good weather. The food was superb (we loved the Asparagus risotto) and our server Arwen was attentive, personable and couldn’t do enough to accommodate us. We were also served by Mark and another young chap who we found to be equally as lovely. The only thing that let this restaurant down was the speed of service; when we arrived, we were promptly seated by Arwen and served drinks but, due to experiencing heavy custom, the decision had apparently been made to stop taking food orders to allow the kitchen to catch up (not a problem; we have run hospitality venues ourselves for many years so we understand the pressure!) The only problem was that this was completely unbeknownst to us as the manager on duty seemed to have made the choice not to inform their waiting customers of this decision - after nearly an hour of patiently watching the staff clean the surrounding tables and growing somewhat irritated, we asked lovely Arwen (who we presumed at this point had simply forgotten us!) whether we could order our food to which she responded that we couldn’t as they’d been instructed by their manager not to take any food orders as the kitchen was overwhelmed and they would serve us as soon as they could. She kindly sorted us with some bread and oil to keep us satiated in the meantime. Meanwhile, the tables around us were also getting pretty cranky working on the assumption that the staff had completely forgotten them as they completed other tasks around them. As I said earlier in my review, we completely understand the pressure of experiencing unprecedentedly heavy levels of custom but we would recommend that should a similar situation arise in future to make sure you are clear and honest in your communication with your customers if there is to be a particularly long wait on food. We feel that it would have been a better approach to inform us of the wait once we had been seated and served drinks - as this wasn’t the case, we assumed for nearly an hour that the staff were so disorganised and confused that we, and our fellow patrons, had been forgotten about! Despite this, we thoroughly enjoyed our food, the setting and the atmosphere and in the process made some friends with the people seated at the table next to us! Thanks again to Arwen for her service and compliments to the chef for the lovely food.

The Bar & Kitchen was a beautiful find while staying in Porthcawl. Right on the water so the view is Stunning. The ambiance was gorgeous. Our server Becky was Amazing! She was kind, had a smile, was attentive and fun! The food was so good. The Monkfish and King Prawn curry was recommended by our server and absolutely exceeded my expectations! Kudos to the Chef, the meal was Fantastic and so delicious!! My family also had the Salmon and Chicken Kiev and absolutely loved their dishes as well!We will definitely be back and can't wait to bring friends and family when they visit from the States♥️Thank you!!!

Food menu had a varied selection & Sunday lunch looked amazing. Unfortunately for us they were fully booked for food. I'll definitely go back to eat. Enjoyed drinks on the terrace watching the tide come in 😊

We travelled from Essex to Wales to attend a family funeral and our nephew recommended this establishment as a meet up for the night before. The venue was clean, the staff were professional and friendly and the food was great. We would like to say a special thanks to Becky who went out of her way to make us very welcome after a very long drive and could not have been more attentive. Staff are an absolute credit to the Bar & Kitchen. We will definitely recommend and will return! Thank you!

Called in while out for a walk and I got to say this place is beautiful. The view out across the beach with beautiful food it couldn't get any better. We ve been there twice recently , impressed both times . Mussel starter is great , as is Chicken Supreme , Monkfish Curry . Staff very helpful and decently priced drinks . All great .

We didnt eat but had a coffee. After a nice long walk we always bring our guests here, This time from Gallipoli/Turkey. They loved the atmosphere and surroundings This place become our go to for hosting our guests.

Lovely bar/restaurant in old harbour building which has been very tastefully refurbished. We couldn't book and as it was Easter Sunday, the restaurant was full, but we had same food in the bar which was just as pleasant. There are comfy sofa's for lounging so it's a great place for a drink as well as food. Food was plentiful & tasty and great priced set menu. Would return.

I have been to this restaurant numerous times over the past few years and I have to say that every time I go I always have a brilliant experience. I have had the steak and the burger as main meals and they were superb! The food was perfectly cooked and tasted fantastic. The food came out quick and the waiters were very kind. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is in Porthcawl

A smashing night here with excellent service and very tasty high quality food which I admit, was a delightful surprise. Had the crab and prawn linguine and omg, absolutely delish. My partner had scallops to start which were melt in the mouth. There was a group of six of us and service was attentive, warm and full of personality. Atmosphere was what made this, fresh and buzzing with a good vibe but not overly full or noisy . All in all an excellent visit and a definite return is on the cards for us

Stayed in the area this weekend with friends, we called in for a drink on Saturday had a lovely cocktail, staff so helpful, pleasant and friendly. Rang on the Sunday morning to try and book for lunch for 9 of us but they could not fit us in and didn’t reserve the bar area for food, an hour later they called back and said they could accommodate all 9 of us in the bar area. Fab staff, lovely food, and great mai tai’s And expresso martini- Thank you to a fab team x

We wanted to visit it for a long time and we've managed last Sunday. Very pleasant staff and a nice atmosphere. Both bar and dining areas were busy, but the service was fast, and the food was amazing. Despite the busyness, the waiting staff was polite and friendly, and the food and drinks were spot on. Highly recommended it.
