We have visited this restaurant a couple of times in the last 6 months when visiting relatives. On both occasions, the food and service have been very good. Prices are comparable to other outlets in the area.

A lovely restaurant in trendy Merton Mills, but dismayed and shocked to discover it had no loos. Is this legal? On a wet and windy night we had to traipse out and use the loo in the local pub.

BAD FOOD AND RUDE STAFF. Awful awful awful, avoid! The worst Thai I've ever had (and I've had a lot). Came here a few weeks ago with a family member. The corn cakes were so hard it was like eating a very stale biscuit- if you're not careful you could lose a tooth. The green thai curry was bland, tasteless, and seemed like someone had just watered it down. My pad thai was the worse I've ever had, but I ate it because I was that hungry. The worst part was when we went to pay at the end, although not enjoying any of the meal, we only asked for the green thai curry to be taken off because we didn't touch it it was that bad. Instead of apologising, the lady working there decided to be SO RUDE and say there must be something wrong with us. She gaslit us so badly I haven't ever experienced anything like it before. When we said we weren't going to pay for that 1 dish because it was terrible and we didn't eat it, she asked us if we'd ever had thai food before. Her attitude was so out of order. Will never be returning here. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere that actually know how to cook Thai food and don't condescend their customers.

Went in for a quick bite. Service was fast and the food was out of this world . In truth I have not tasted fish this good for a very long time. Full of flavour and came with a lovely coconut sauce. Also had the prawn soup which was delicious although small. Much better than wasting money in a chain restaurant. This is an independent little family run business and definitely worth a visit. I will be back for more!!! Well done.

We admittedly did come in late, well an hour before closing, & we were the only diners. There was no greeting, the menus were plonked on the table & we felt pressured to order. We chose a not cheap bottle of white wine which also got plonked on the table, unopened & no wine cooler. We ordered starters & mains & were quite shocked when EVERYTHING turned up at the same time. It was as if they couldn't wait to get us out so they could go home. When we questioned this we got attitude. The food was ok but nothing special. In the middle of the starter/main course we got the bill slapped down on the table. Hurry up and get out they seemed to say! We finished our food, downed our expensive wine & asked for the toilet. There isn't one, unless you go outside to the public loos. I do NOT recommend this restaurant at all. They are surly, unfriendly & expensive. I know I left my sunglasses on the table as we were rushed out, but when we went back the next day they denied all knowledge of them. Avoid at all cost!

We had been to the Chapter House Priory, had a couple of drinks and were hungry. We had noticed this place before, so decided to eat here. We WERE the only diners. The place is clean, welcoming and the decor is nice. The menu had most of the usual Thai options. We had spring rolls for starter, which were very nice as the coating wasn't the usual filo pastry but more like fine Tempura batter. Then we both opted for the red curry with rice. The prices were good, food ok, but a bit watery. The next day we both had upset tummies, not sure if it was the spices or something else - but unusual (not D&V). The downside to this restaurant is there is NO on site loo. You have to walk outside, round the corner about 75 yards and use what is effectively a public loo. What if it was raining hard? Hardly ideal, mid meal. Doubt we will eat here again, mainly cos of the loo's. Not nice for women at night.

I have stumbled upon this reataurant by accident, on Saturday. It’s in a lovely location, near Abbey Mills and in spite of a windy( yet sunny) day I asked for an outside table. Staff were rather friendly and helpful. Starter( spring rolls) was hot and tasty but now I know what others reviewers meant by small portions. As my main was a noodle dish with chicken( sadly do not remember the name) it was tasty, not earth shattering but good, though value for money is really bad. I think I may want to go back there with a group of friends and see what they think too.

The service was good but there were only two couples Chicken curry had watery 'sauce' with lots of shredded veg and a very few, very small and thin pieces of curry. Ridiculous lack of chicken in a CHICKEN curry. Fish dish tasted like a frozen fish, no real taste or texture. Tasted cheap. Prawn pad tai was nice. Overall a very disappointing experience given the other reviews I expected to have had a decent meal. Rice was OK, small bowl portion. Overall a disappointing experience with poor portions and therefore overpriced for what you get. Definitely won't try it again.

I read good review and noticed they provided good lunch time deal. I rang up and asked if they did my favourite starter which they didn't but said would do for us. When we arrived, waited a good 10 minutes before I ended up going to the front desk to order as thought maybe that was what you were meant to do. Waiter said he would come over and placed order. Order a main and rice for my children to share plus starter and order 2 x starter and main lunchtime deal 7.95. He then came back and told me they didn't do starter - I explained I had pre ordered - came back again and said was fine.I was surprised when our dishes came and my husbands and my starter and main were served on same plate with 1/2 portion of starter. I then decided to order another starter as was not enough. My pad thai noodles came with 4 prawns - food was tasty. When it came to paying I noticed they had added extra £2 per main - when I enquired he showed me in menu £2 extra for prawns. I told him I didn't ask and assumed it came with the pad thai noodles as prawns always came with it in every other restaurant I've been to.Didn't think for a café style restaurant it was very good value

Popped in here for a quick lunch and were not disappointed. We had their set two course meal deal for £7.95. Had the chicken satay to start (although it is served with the main course) which was delicious, as were the green chicken curry & pad thai. Really tasty food and excellent value. The service was also friendly. The only downside is no toilets at the restaurant (you have to go back outside to the general Merton Abbey Mills area) but as we were only there for a quick lunch, this did not bother us. Went here for a quick lunch initially. In the week this is a bargain. I left my hat there and have been back since for two dinners. It is hard to fault the quality of the food on offer. It always tastes fresh and delicious. Both red and green curries are excellently flavoured and there is a wide variety of stir fries two. This restaurant caters well for vegetarians and though not vegetarians ourselves we have sampled dishes with tofu and vegetables which are really tasty. Being part of the Merton Abbey Mills area the restaurant is pleasantly furnished and the service is excellent. Two potential negatives to warn you about which did not affect us. First, because it is part of the market there are no toilets on site and you have to walk a good hundred metres outside of the restaurant to find them. The second is that the wine list is perfunctory. However the beers are cold and I think go better with this food. Value for money here is amazing. You will be well fed and watered for £25 a head max.

The service was reasonably attentive, it appears to be staffed with Thai people. The interior was clean and comfortable. The venue can hold around 30 (my guess) diners total. I had the Pad Bai Kapaow with a fried egg. and my wife and son both ordered Chicken Massaman. I always feel I get to little rice but never mind, My food was ok but not enough Thai Basil was used and the fried egg (a standard for this type of dish) was not included, I had to ask for it and when the dish arrived the egg was overcooked (i.e the yolk was hard). It was fairly spicy too but I like that. The main issue was the Massaman, my wifes' favourite Thai dish, this was was way too sweet (even for this type of dish made with coconut milk) and as she also ordered coconut rice it felt like eating a chicken dessert. The bill for all of us came to about £33 including canned soft drinks, this is ok value but as usual the drink prices bore no relationship to their cost in the shops. No wifi was available. This is a comfortable venue with only average Thai food at a reasonable price. Service was not brisk (even for a quiet lunchtime) but good enough.

This little restaurant stretches front to back with indoor and outside seating too when weather is good. Ate there three times in one week with various family members from vegetarian to meat eaters, and all thumbs up. I enjoyed each occasion for lunch and got to breaking the ice a little with the attentive waitress who seemed too serious at first...langue and cultural difference I suppose, so do not take it as being cold or rude. We stumbled across this Thai restaurant on a Sunday walk with the family from Morden Hall Park to Merton Abbey Mills. My husband and I remember the market at Merton Abbey as a large thriving happening place but it seems sadly quitter now. However having arrived at our destination the usual pleas of "I'm starving" rang from the smaller participants of our party and so we found ourselves in this little gem of a restaurant. The food came quickly and was delicious. We were the only group in the restaurant at that time but then 4 pm on a Sunday afternoon it wasn't surprising. The restaurant is pleasingly decorated with Thai designs. My only tip would be to avoid the pink milk and the fruit punch. My daughter ordered both and couldn't drink them. Toooo sweet!

I'm a huge fan of Thai food, especially Thai Green Curry and often get some on my way home from work. One day I decided to try this place and WOW. At first sight it looked like a cafe-style place but once you are seated you'll soon be made comfortable by the extremely friendly family that runs this place.I called them around 10 minutes before arriving there just to minimise the waiting time and by the time I arrived they had the food ready for me and I got it straight away after sitting down. The prices are very reasonable and the food is extremely tasty and up along the best Thai Green Curries I've ever had. The waitress that served me made sure I was feeling comfortable by asking me if everything was ok and if I needed anything else.Overall a very pleasant experience for both my palate and my wallet. Slight downside was the fact that their card machine wasn't working and they tried around 5 times to get it through, but the payment wasn't going through from any of my cards. I ended up paying by cash and was a pound short, but they were very accommodating and said it was fine.I'll definitely go back once the family is back from their Christmas vacation. I have been a regular at this restaurant since it first opened five years ago. The restaurant is set in Merton Abbey Mills, in itself worth a visit for its craft stalls and live music at weekends. The food here is of the highest quality (my personal favourite dish is seabass with garlic) - every course from starter (spring rolls are unlike other restaurants, these are handmade with a special pastry) through to desserts (banana fritters better than anywhere else) is superb. There is a great atmosphere in this independent cafe style place, with great service every time. The place is reassuringly busy, but one never has to wait for long to be seated and served. The amazing thing about this place vs the other high quality Thai restaurants is the price. Ban Yai Thai restaurant has become a regular eating establishment for us. I would say we have probably eaten there over two hundred times. The first point i'm making is of course one does not go back somewhere to eat as many times as that if the food isn't of a high standard. The food quality is always very high and also very consistent, which for us is very important indeed, plus you never have to wait long after ordering from their extensive menu, and It's always very relaxed with a completely traditional Interior. We had stopped eating here for a while as a couple of times we had eaten there last year, the food felt watered down. We were struggling to find a new Thai so thought we’d give it another go. We decided to eat in on a Tuesday night. When the food came it was again at its exceptional standard. Full of flavour and aromatic. We had asked them to omit any bean sprouts and add a little more chilli. We had the prawns with basil and chilli, green prawn curry and the pad kee mao. The only thing that let the dishes down a bit was the fact that they added mushrooms to the pad kee mao and the prawns with basil. I don’t ever remember these dishes containing mushrooms? Otherwise exceptional dishes.

We first had their food dine in and it was amazing. But tonight, we had it delivered. It is the worst £70 dinner I spent. Ordered prawn pad thai, tamarind duck stir fry, minced chicken larb, beef sirloin phad sieyu. Pad thai looked pale, had 3 pcs of prawn. It was very bland, looked more like a soup dish than a wok fried noodle dish from how soggy it was. The noodles tasted boiled as well. It was just sweet. No sour notes. Just sweet. Tamarind duck had leaked its sauce from the package. Duck was very rubbery, veggies tasted raw. Also, just very sweet. It's described as having sour lime flavour. None of that came through. Larb tasted like a gamey chicken mince, no salty or sour flavor as expected from a Larb. You can only taste tons of black pepper, red pepper spiciness, and the raw thick sliced red onions. Lastly the beef noodles, phad sieyu. This we paid extra £3 for the sirloin. It came very dull, bland, almost tasteless, no wok/stir fried flavor. The beef was also rubbery and had no discernible seasoning. This also had broccoli, cauliflowers, chunky carrots which was not necessary for a phad sieyu. Also, just overall greasy and sweet, nothing else. I am truly disappointed with the quality of the food considering we had enjoyed dining in more than 4x in the past months here. I hope this was a one off thing because they were much much much better before.
