B & K Salt Beef Bar & Restaurant in Harrow

My only complaint is that I cannot give more than five stars. I have been there several times, the most recent about a week ago. As ever, the service was very friendly, the food was exceptional and the atmosphere is terrific - you are treated more like an invited guest than a customer. The secret is that they seem to love the work they do and do it with enthusiasm. As for the portions, if you go there, don't plan to eat much for the next 24 hours...

The salt beef on rye bread sandwiches are excellent—one sandwich is enough to leave you feeling full! The potato latke is delicious, and the fish balls are amazing. The entire menu is packed with flavour and quality. I highly recommend trying the beans and barley soup, as well as the matzo ball chicken soup—both taste like comforting home-cooked meals. The food is tasty and of great quality, and the friendly owners create a welcoming atmosphere in this lovely eatery with great vibes!

Beautiful and welcoming experience, in a cosy and genuine place. The salt beef was exquisite. The service was very personable and warm. Will definitely be coming back to try some more.

I don't think I ever had such an amazing beef tongue and the gefilte fish was great too. Tiny, lovely place with great people.

I got there around 3pm on a Wednesday after visiting the RAF Museum with the young nephew . Recommended by a friend I had been looking forward to it but when we arrived we weren't allowed to be seated as it was takeaway only . I asked why and got some rubbish about staff breaks . Why couldn't we simply be allowed to eat our takeaway at one of the tables instead of having to sit on the pavement outside with the usual winos . Three salt beef sandwiches on rye and three apple strudel and we stuck it in a carrier bag and headed for Milton Keynes . The strudel I found good and the salt beef less so . Completely underwhelming and I won't be rushing back any time soon . I had been looking forward to selecting something from the menu sitting down and enjoying and this was denied to me for the most spurious of reasons .I wish I could be more upbeat and informative but sadly this was my experience

Very good food , very friendly the best in north west london Been going there for years , i known the family who own bk for years always very happy to see me ask about one my best friends a lot. Must go & have a sit down meal there , when i get the chance. 60 _out 10 also like there hach end one as well

I defy you to show me a better establishment purveying salt beef in the UK. I used to work in the area and would frequent the restaurant on a weekly basis. I was passing by today and grabbed some for dinner tonight. Faultless. Brilliant. Exceptional...all rolled into one.

If you want a mouth-watering salt beef sandwich on rye, with all the trimmings - mustard and pickled cucumber, this is the place to go. Once, inside and at the counter, you'll be astonished by the huge, generous layers of succulent, rosey-red, salt beef, (corned beef if you're from the USA), perfectly cooked daily in their own kitchen, or deliciously soft beef tongue, accompanied by some of the best hand cut chips I have ever tasted, or their delicious potato latkes. I can't speak too highly of this little gem of a restaurant. It's not kosher but it's "Old School Kosher style" if you know what I mean! They also do great chopped liver, chopped fried fish balls and chopped boiled as well as chicken soup with kneidlach or lokshen or bean and barley. Not a big selection of desserts, but the Apple Strudel is always good and there's also lokshen pudding. Treat yourself. You won't be disappointed. This is a solid 4 stars maybe just under a 5! If you start going on a regular basis you'll soon be on first name terms with the proprietor.

Probably the best Salt Beef you'll ever have in your life. The shop has been here for generations, and my grandmother used to take me as a child. Always service with a smile. The food is so fantastic.

Don't be put off by the depressing area and filthy littered-streets around because this family-run place is fabulous. Delicious salt beef and tongue (my favourite) and also barley soup, latkes and apple strudel (better than I had in Vienna). Huge portions, but high quality and cheap price. How often can you say that in Britain today? All served with a friendly smile and warm banter. I've only had takeout, but the place is cosy to sit there I can see. You won't find better in London than B&K for salt beef and tongue; really, you won't

Went for nostalgia not the food. Facilities need upgrading. Bean and Barley soup always a knockout. Rest was rather disappointing apart from chips and cans of shandy.

If you like a Hot Salt Beef on Rye bread there is nowhere as good as the B&K anywhere near in North West London. Try it and see, you will be converted for life...trust me.

Been eating the food in this restaurant for 40 years. Never had a bad meal or needed to complain. Fish balls are the bxxlxxks and tastiest lutkas.

Great deli food and the best salt beef tongue and latkes I have ever tasted!! The Ox tongue is delicious and melts in your mouth, very friendly family run business. Everything is home made and home cooked. Cafe type seating if you want to eat in. Definitely worth a visit. No one makes it better.

Had the best Salt Beef sandwich in my world yesterday courtesy of B&K in Edgware, London. On Rye with pickle and mustard. Latke secretly on the side. Coming here since 1996. Sandwiches from other shops around London are barely one tenth as good. A public joy.

Been here many times over the years but decided to write a review after today. Service is always exceptional here, staff are always welcoming and friendly. Always come here for the salt beef, best I’ve tried in London.

Went into the Edgware branch today travelling all the way from Brighton - and it was beyond worth it! Absolutely the best salt beef sandwich I have had in years, alongside the fish balls. I was served by the sweetest people, and the man actually reminded me of my grandfather who has passed. I felt so at home and nostalgic there and I can’t wait to go back

Excellent. The perfect Jewish food. Had their mixed meat on rye. The meat was perfectly cooked. The rye just melted in your mouth. Got an apple strudel which reminded me of my Grandmother. Such a friendly atmosphere.

Delightful and delicious. The staff were charming, the food was outstanding. After a salt beef sandwich on rye with pickles and mustard I was a very happy camper. Lots of regulars filed in and out while we dined showing its popularity (not that there was any wait - the service was snappy).

Mark treated us as royalty this evening. We left the ordering to him, everything was delicious! The first time of many at B&K.

It's not a cheap eat - but the salt beef and tongue where delicious and tender. I'd eat there again if I was nearby. Friendly staff and good food.

The worst salt beed i ever had .soggy bread . Gherkins where just at the middle not enough mustard. So much fat on the meat .

The salt beef is the best you can buy , soft juicy hot melt in the mouth , not like others dry .

Excellent salt beef and cold sandwich bar run by very genuine staff. The place has been open for more than 40 years and is a family run business. The last point alone is worth supporting in this day and age where chain restaurants have taken over and taken down the business. They have a great selection of meat and it's all very well made. When we visited they had no seating because of COVID-19 regulations, I hope that's all been lifted now. I would defo go back again.

Beware - 3 stars for this place being traditional jewish style and not being under supervision BUT but the actual meat used is not kosher sadly so might as well be McDonalds

A powerhouse of a restaurant hidden by a very modest shop front and interior, a warm greeting met us when we walked in, this is a very serious place to visit if you enjoy your food, the array of freshly cooked meat and poultry is a wonder to behold, not to mention the fish cooked to order, I was there to savour the best of Jewish cuisine with my friend from the suburbs courtesy of a fortuitous win on a win on a raffle night for a deserving and overlooked charity, our meal was a prize donated by the owners who generously offered the Meal to help raise funds for the charity, we pre-booked our table for 1pm but turned up early and were allowed to choose our table, the service was excellent and discreet, the waitress I think was the daughter of the owners since I believe this is a family run restaurant, the best kind of restaurant you can hope for, I can only commend her quiet attentiveness, we started with chopped liver with egg and onion, served with matzo, a meal in itself, the best chopped liver I have tasted and the eggs were diced and freshly cooked, our main course after much deliberation since there was so much to choose from settled on a plate of Salt Beef and Tongue each, almost a mistake as the portions were so generous that we could have shared just one, but with meat that well cooked and so tender, why on earth would you want to share it, we shared a bowl of continental salad, light and refreshing with a very delicate dressing, served within the bowl in two lettuce leaves, a thoughtful and refreshing presentation of a something that was not treated as a mere salad, we finished on the dessert, the homemade Apple Strudel was a must served with a scoop of ice cream, we were already full to the brim with the Meal so far but desserts like this are few and far between to stumble across, the Strudel was gorgeous, lovely pastry, expertly cooked apple and a good accompanied amount of dried fruit all lightly spiced, the ice cream was I think a Cornish dairy, rich and creamy to compliment the Strudel, as far as drink went, we settled from the moment we sat down to go for the Lemon Tea, served in a glass cup as you would expect with a generous amount of Lemon slices, I observed during our meal that this restaurant was extremely popular with the locals but we were the only visitors, quite understandably since why would you tell everyone about a place this good, I am planning another trip as soon as possible since I have found the hidden gem which is not for once the cliché of used by reviewers.

Absolutely amazing! Every single thing I tried from this place is just astounding. Salt beef sandwich out of this world, latkes are phenomenal and the schnitzel tastes like the one your grandma used to make at home! Proper, old school salt beef on rye. We arrived a few minutes before they opened, but were seated without fuss. Service was very friendly, and the food was absolutely first class. Excellent salt beef on proper rye bread with mustard and pickles, and delicious latkes. I only wish there were more places like this.

Good traditional deli with a kind host. Salted beef was good and the bread was fine.

Hubby had egg and onion, chicken livers, chopped herring and sweet and sour and New green gurkins, followed by salt beef, potatoes latkes with lemon tea ... he loved the salt beef but said the rest could have done with a bit more seasoning and was a bit tasteless. I had the best salad I've had in years and omelette, I could have eaten it twice 😁

Always lovely eat in or takeaway. Michael and family run a great business. Traditional Jewish deli food without the extortionate prices. Not Kosher just the kosher taste.

Wonderful salt beef or rye. Apple strudel with huge chunks of apple, sultanas and cinnamon. Lokshen pudding (noodle pudding in pieces like a cake) with lemon and sultanas and sugar browned top - to die for). The sit in area has banquettes and a photo of olden days. Not grand but good for families. Take away will keep you smiling for days.

Haven’t been here since I was a kid, still just as I remember, very homey food.

I've been looking for a traditional kosher restaurant ever since Blooms closed down. The place is quite small but really popular and I can see why.....the salt beef was to die for, and a proper portion too. However, my 3 starters, yes 3, were a bit on the bland side which was a real shame. The egg and onions, chopped herring and especially the chopped liver all tasted very little of there ingredients but that won't stop me going there again
