Angel Tagine in Islington

Went to this restaurant early for a quieter meal . It was quiet around 6 but filled up later , seemed to be tourist groups. One diner had the vegetable tagine and saffron rice , the other a meat mezze. The veggie tagine was ok but a bit lacking in flavour and spice. Some of the sweet potato segments were hard as a brick. The meat dish appeared to be tasty , but some of the meat was quite tough . Mint tea was.available and authentic. One dessert was unavailable as missing the ice cream. Reasonable ambience although so e more soft furnishing and lighting would enhance the place. Fab Moroccan music to begin with , then lapsed into non descript saxophone music later which was a shame . Overall reasonable value for money and experience, but food was so so and wouldn't eat here again alas. The table service was good.

We came here for a family lunch. All the food was excellent, well cooked and flavourful. The chicken couscous and lamb tagine were standouts! Even our picky eating kids enjoyed it. Homemade harrisa sauce was the cherry on top. Service was friendly and attentive. Great value as well. A gem in the neighbourhood, already planning to go back!

Delicious food and absolutely first class service, this restaurant is a real gem, not to be missed. Everyone agreed that the chicken pastilla is the best we've ever had and it's worth visiting for that dish alone! We will definitely be back. Looking forward to it!

I watched a staff member eat food from my friends plate as they stood in the kitchen. When I reported it to them, they just laughed in my face. No apology. Absolutely disgusting. I would never come back here. In response to your response: Hi Frankie, I’m sorry to say that your very low review was neither accurate nor was it fair. After investigating this incident, you didn’t report it at the time your friend was served his brunch of an omelette and chips. - I did not say we reported it at the time we were handed the plate. We were in shock. I’m happy that he enjoyed and finished his plate. - he didn’t fully enjoy it as he knew your staffs fingers had been in it it. He was too embarrassed to say anything - being the lovely person he is and was ridiculously hungry after working all morning. When you reported it before making a payment at the till, the staff member admitted eating a chip that fell out of the plate in the kitchen and apologised. - this is completely incorrect. I saw her eat 3-4 chips from the plate and there was NO apology. They just laughed in our faces. This was the sequence of events and it was not a laughing matter as this wasn’t aligned with the high standard we conduct our business. - when BOTH members of your staff laughed at me. I told them that this is NOT a laughing matter. I apologise unreservedly. - your apology is completely NOT accepted. I will again make sure that anyone I know is aware of this disgusting attitude to your customers

Wonderful food and bring your own booze - friendly staff: reasonable value for Islington too - good portion sizes. Recommended.

We took a walk several blocks from our hotel. Within three blocks we found Pubs, Italian, Turkish and Korean, until we spotted this small Moroccan surprise. We started with the hummus and pita appetizer. My wife ordered the chicken tagine and safflower rice, and followed that with Moroccan tea. I ordered the kefta (meatball) tagine, also with safflower rice. Both were excellent.

Ordered from Uber Eats - 10/10 and I would go higher if I could! We ordered the lamb and the chicken tagine and I lost count how many times my partner said WOW, OH WOW. This food is unreal, it felt like we were eating in someone house. It’s warm, homely, rich and with explosive flavours. The chicken has a citrusy kick because of the preserve lemon and the rice if fluffy. Simply lovely. The lamb is just insane, you can pull the meat effortless, the sauce is rich of spices and the apricot and plums made me do a little happy dance! You have to try, I bet in person seated at the restaurant it would be even better.

The food here is extremely good and we learnt a lot about cooking Moroccan dishes, particularly cous-cous, which we have been doing all wrong at home. The manager was a really interesting person to talk to, about food, travel and Islam. It’s a bring your own bottle venue, which makes eating here a very reasonable price. Thoroughly recommend.

Myself & partner visited this place for the first time yesterday. He's Morrocan so we know what to expect in terms of food to say the least. I must say this place doesn't even deserve one star, they deserve to be closed down. Overpriced, portion size was shocking (my kids have a bigger plate for dinner) and overall terrible experience, rude staff, food was shockingly awful "lamb skewers" what a poor excuse. Will never be going back. And would not recommend. I left so upset, there isn't anything worse than paying for something you haven't enjoyed.

Random find for dinner. Simple decor but very clean, and really friendly host who was very helpful when choosing side dishes. Delicious lamb tagines. Would definitely go back if in the area.

Having been in Chapel Street market a couple of times, and seeing this place, and got talking with the guy at the front, we decided to book a table just after Valentines day i.e. Wednesday. I was called on the day to check whether I was coming, and thought that means they are either very full or very empty. We arrived early (7.15) and found just one other table occupied for a short while. We were the only customers in the restaurant all night, except for a few young girls who rushed in to use the toilet because one of them was being sick. Having said that, I have few complaints about the food: it was hot, fairly tasty and big portions. I ordered Chicken couscous and my wife ordered Chicken tagine. In the event we both ended up with identical plates and our bill said two chicken couscous. The accompanying chilli type sauce pepped things up. I was pleased with my meal, but my wife thought hers a little on the bland side until a caramelised onion and raisin garnish was added. We brought our own bottles. Once we received our meals, we got the distinct impression that the staff were watching us, waiting for us to finish and leave, which was exactly what happened. We were not offered a the chance of a desert. We were told that Friday and Saturday were their busy day, but as audition for a place to bring our dining group, this was not a success. I am at a loss to figure out what went wrong. This valid revue reflects the facts and impressions of our visit midweek evening in February. It just was not the experience we had been hoping for. By the way, the cook told us she was from Bangladesh, so go figure.

Very welcoming host. A warm ambience. They were busy with take away orders - obviously liked by many with so much business. Food was good. Houmous was delicious.

I didn't get to dine here unfortunately. I booked on open table and they cancelled my reservation. When I rang to ask why, they said that they thought they wouldn't be open on the Friday before New year's, but now they will be open. They told me that they will text me to confirm, but I can email them and they'll confirm by replying to me... But I never received anything from them. I tried ringing again... No answer. I turned up on the day... They were closed. Christmas holiday plans now had to change. They only get 2 stars instead of 1 star, because they were friendly on the phone. But they need to learn how to manage their restaurant.

It was a real taste of Moroccan Tagine with aromatic rice and Couscous. Absolutely great and really big portion. Very friendly staff who can speak at least 3 languages and lots of love and passionate in the restaurant atmosphere. Highly recommended.

The owner was so friendly and welcoming and the food was amazing from start to finish. Everything we ordered was fresh and absolutely delicious, not to mention excellent value for money. This place is a little hidden gem and we will be coming back again. Cannot recommend more highly

We came across this restaurant by accident and are so happy we did. The food was fantastic, especially the Lamb which was nice and tender. Eddine was wonderful to chat with. The restaurant has a "family-run" feel which is appreciated. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu!

5 star Moroccan quisine and personable service

The server was polite. Overall The food was alright but the kebabs were over cooked and dry, as was the rice , the tajine tasted like pesto and had its colour.. the soup however was very delicious! The tea was served without any sugar whatsoever. It didn’t taste like Moroccan tea at all!! but rather normal very bland chai.

Lovely place and really good food! The waiter was very sweet and gave us suggestions on the food too.

This restaurant decor is ok. However the soup taste yum. Very reasonably priced. The good thing is also u can sit outdoors to enjoy the market.

Tasty food for affordable price

Worst lamb Tagine I’ve ever had, no salt, little flavour and extremely watery. Felt like it was rushed and not made with love. Only was edible once salt was added. Chicken was extremely dry, we didn’t finish them. Nice rice and clean place however. Won’t be back unfortunately

au repas, une pastilla, mangeable, ensuite un tagine aux pruneaux et abricots...servi avec DU RIZ ??? les pruneaux et abricots ont été réjoutés dans une sauce particulièrement liquide, ce qui donne un plat totalement insipide et sans gout. J'ai demandé un thé à la menthe...on m'a apporté l'addition, j'ai insisté pour le thé, je n'aurais pas du. Le thé est clair comme de l'eau du robinet et légèrement teinté jaune. j'avais demandé une carafe d'eau, on m'a servi un verre, j'ai du me relevé pendant le repas pour avoir un autre verre d"eau. Un repas raté du début à la fin.

6 of us had a great meal here. BYBO so those wanting a glass of wine could pop across the road to get a bottle the rest of us enjoyed iced tap water. The food was delicious, lamb tagine, saffron rice, humus and salads. The owner was delightful chatting about Morocco and its history. Another bonus is that it is air conditioned Very good value, Recommended

Food was delicious - hummus, lamb tagine. Enjoyed all of it - as did my friends but the service was really lacking. I have been before and there was a man hosting and serving, I think he is the owner - he was excellent. Sadly he wasn’t there today, we received no welcome, our starters and mains arrived before drinks.. in fact we had to remind her and it was only us and one other table - no niceties or check back.. we’d finished eating and the table was cleared then the bill was put on the table - no offer of dessert or drinks.. she then watched us and cleared our glasses - even though it wasn’t finished - and then was heard from the other end of the restaurant saying they were closing to someone coming in. Very unwelcoming on this occasion and made us feel awkward - also whacking on a 12.5% service charge was a bit steep. But the food was good - I will visit again but hope the other staff are working!

Fantastical place, very friendly and accommodating team

The food was good. Better than expected, however as the restaurant was being run by asians, im not sure its authentic moroccan cuisine! The food didnt come out bubbling hot, however the chicken tagine was very tasty and the meat fell off the bone. The harrira soup was also good. The major downside is the location. The restaurant is located within a fruit and veg market so its not that great, especially with loitering teenagers every so often on the curbside, ruins the overall experience. Moroccan music should also be on loop but it was a combination of arabic and asian. There was no moroccan tea available. Which was a letdown. Its the essence of moroccan culture. Was left dissatisfied.

It was amazing experience, I was surprised as the food was traditionally cooked with very nice flavours. The service was also great ! I totally recommend it 100% . You wouldn’t regret choosing this restaurant. 👍🏼

The lamb wrap is really hot but it is the best lamb wrap I have tried. Everything is so tasty and the combination of roasted vegetables with the lamb just worked really well. Will definitely visit again.

A wonderful find when visiting the area for a concert at the O2 Academy. We ordered the vegetable tagine and fish tagine - they were both very tasty and a lovely reminder of our holidays to Morocco! There is no drinks licence but we were told we could take our own, however, the mango lassi was delicious. Owner very friendly and helpful, would recommend

Stumbled into this at lunchtime when the market was closing up, and very glad we did. A cosy Moroccan place tucked away in Chapel Market, with a wonderful atmosphere and very friendly staff. We received a very warm welcome and had a lovely chat about how the meals were made, and the flavours we could expect. The food arrived quickly and tasted superb. Special mention to the fish tagine - the vegetables served were perfectly selected and cooked, the sauce was just the right balance of flavour and heat, and the fish itself was possibly the best bit of mackerel I've ever had the fortune of eating! The harira (soup) was also a pleasant surprise. The pricing was reasonable, on the lower end of mid-range. Potion sizes were just right. Combined with the great quality of the meals, this restaurant offers great value for money. I think I've found a new favourite spot. Strongly recommend. Ah, right - and the mango lassi is a must!

A surprisingly good find in Chapel Market that was well worth the wait (they were short-staffed when we were there). Tagines were delicious! We also had that tasty sweet & savory chicken pastry whose name I’ve forgotten. I would return next time we’re in London - it’s really good.

Great tagines at a great price in a humble venue, with friendly, personal service. We had the mackerel tagine, lamb tagine, the meze starter and mango lassi (which came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top that we weren't expecting, but who says no to ice cream!) The tagines were both very different and delicious; each came the yellow saffron rice which was slightly sweet with a hint of cinnamon. The owner who served us told us his wife is the one who makes the Morrocan pastry dessert on the menu. Will definitely return for my next tagine fix.

We were in a rush when we visited but wish we could have stayed longer. The owner is a great host and clearly loves Moroccan food and is proud of the dishes he serves. It was great to find Pastille on the menu - it is not often available outside Morocco. And it was home made and delicious. A real treat. The rest of the food was also excellent, fresh and tasty. The menu offers a variety of a dishes - tagines etc. Good prices. Great little local restaurant. We will be returning

I went there with a friend . The couscous and tagine we ordered to share were so delicious and value for money , I could eat there every day !The place was so cosy, it takes you to Morroco without taking the plane The owner was so friendly, with a great sense of conversation , he even gave us a discount It definitely is a place I recommend to any one who wants to try or who misses North African cuisine

As we arrived the owner greeted us and welcomed us to the Moroccan menu. He laid out Moroccan table linen and authentic lamp, as he explained the evening became true Moroccan restaurant. We had humus and flat bread with mint tea as a starter. The mint was quite bitter but no sugar offered. The humus was nice. Very olive oil based. Then we had chicken tagine and rice. The food was piping hot. Chicken fell off the bone. Rice was light and fluffy. All so flavoursome and moorish! Hospitality was excellent although only appeared to be 2 serving staff. We will definitely go again and recommend this lovely Moroccan restaurant!

Great place for a relaxed lunch. We both got tagines which were warm and comforting. Lots of rich flavours. The Moroccan mint tea is worth trying as well.

Incredible food, all very reasonably priced, and very close to Angel station too. Owner was very friendly and helpful and gave us advice on ordering, even advised against ordering certain things so we didn't end up with too much food! Highly recommend!

Extremely satisfying and hearty chicken and couscous at Angel Tagine. The dish was cooked fresh to order and served steaming hot in a traditional tagine. Chicken was so succulent and tender, accompanied by an assortment of chunky vegetables, all served on a bed of couscous which soaked up the fragrant aromatic sauce. Spicing was perfect with notes of tumeric and saffron. The accompanying harissa sauce gave the dish a fiery kick. Owner was very kind and hospitable. This place is a little gem tucked away on Chapel Market and far exceeded my expectations.

Great place to eat, relax and enjoy. Food is delicious, well prepared/presented and you can also BYOB to drink. Very friendly, accomodating staff. Eddine (the owner) is a very interesting, intelligent and welcoming person.! Can't wait to return there next week for a birthday celebration with the family.

Very simple and authentic place just off the main road. The menu has a good choice for everyone - I'm doing veganuary! - and the food is home-made and delicious!

In the heart of a bustling Angel. Great authentic flavours, good price and such lovely service. Moroccan style decor and table wear to add to the experience. Loved my teapot with mint tea and lovely Moroccan glasses.

I have been there two times and the staff are really polite and friendly. You can sit and have a pleasant quiet conversation and not feel everyone is listing to you and the carrot cake is Amazing 👍 highly recommend this place to anyone

Had breakfast here quite a few times. The breakfast is nice and good size portions. Sometimes orders are wrong such as being given wrong toast, but easily rectified. Nice place to come for brunch. They also don’t answer the phones which is a bit annoying as you can’t find out when they stop serving breakfast. Place is clean. Wouldn’t recommend their pastries as they’re quite stale and tasteless.

Ordered hollandaise got mayonnaise. Would come back only for the milkshake

It's a nice place overall. Staff are friendly. Went on a Saturday afternoon and it was quiet so what we ordered arrived quite swiftly. There is room for improvement for the ingredients they use, but overall the price is alligned for the area.

Great Chef and his employees always made and effort to serve me. Anytime there was some error was always replaced or fixed. I know how hard it is to work in food shop and there is always a lot of things to manage. I always had vegetable Lasagne and I liked it a lot. Also once I had no money on card by accident and I was able to pay at the next day. I know they allowed me just because I was their everyday customer - but that was exceptional attitude and I very appreciated it. ♥The reason why I gave just 4 stars it is a sums up of all the little things what failed in two years. Otherwise GOOD!!! Prices went up a bit but it is still a decent location to eat and enjoy.

Wish I found this place earlier. Excellent menu and they have halal alternatives for a Full English. Its the only halal cafe I know in Islington. Staff are very friendly and helpful especially the female working Sundays.
