Angel Delicatessen in Islington

I had the worst experience of any I've ever had in a cafe or restaurant here recently. The man behind the counter started off very friendly and chatty but suddenly turned and became incredibly aggressive to our friend with her newborn baby. While we were waiting to be served my friend had taken her tiny baby to change in the back. The toilet had no facilities and a wet floor so she came out and perched him on a little table in the back store room and got on with it. The same man who had been serving us went out to the back and told her that she couldn't change they baby there. So she took the baby and put him on the wet toilet floor an changed him there. Not ideal but she got on with it. When she came out to be served the man shouted at her and was so incredibly aggressive and rude that at first I thought it was a joke. He was shouting violently and yelling to her to Costa where they have facilities. She didn't understand as she had done what he'd asked, and the level of his response was so out of proportion to what he was angry about. It was horrible. Really shocking. Once we realised he was deadly serious and very scary we left. I have been here before and it's always been fine. But I will NEVER go back. Proper Jekyll and Hyde experience. Shocking.

Had half an hour to kill before an appointment and was lucky to grab a cold drink and a spot in the sunshine. The guy who served me was super friendly thank you! 🙃

The owner of the shop is warm and friendly , but the staff are shocking, rude with attitude, not forthcoming . I'm very disappointed and would not go back. The food is nice but you have to ask for a little more as the portions of food are very little and ungenerous.

The owner was really unhelpful after I left something there and went back to retrieve it. He also commented on my weight while I was ordering.

A wonderfully calm place for a coffee only 100 metres from busy Upper Street. Colorful outside seating, tasty little pastries to accompany your drink and a very happy owner to brighten up your day

This place is a joy. The owner livens up one's lunchtime with his chatter as he prepares the dishes. We shared a lovely plate of salamis, salad cheese and olives plus bread. Then two absolutely excellent coffees. There was a great selection of panino which the regulars were queuing for. An unexpected group of 10 were happily accommodated in the garden. Independent & quirk - a joy. Try it.

This is a great local Italian delie that serves a limited but fresh menus each day. The portions are small and the salad really cheap and nasty. Although ithas been open for several years the toilet is horrible and rather unhygienic. Often no towels or toilet paper. Considering the staff use this toilet as well it's surprising that health and safety have allowed this standard to continue. But the food is great and fresh . But I don't know how a public restaurant gets away with lack of overall cleanness on this level. I often go there since it's local and friendly.

Orders eggs benedict for £5.50, only reason it was so cheap is because they squeezed Heinz salad cream all over the eggs - no hollandaise anywhere. The English muffins were dry and cold. Horrible breakfast to serve under the guise of eggs benedict. What kind of weird place serves "eggs mayonnaise"? Also ordered a London "cheesecake" thinking it would be exactly that. It was a stale, hard slice of pastry with dried coconut on top and a cherry bakewell stuffed in the middle. Bizarre thing that should never have seen the light of day.

The deli has great food and it's cooked by them so changes most days. For some reason the salads are mean and expensive whereas the portions for the food are great. The chairs in garden and terrace are awful and the toilet a disgrace. Someone needs to make this place live up to the high quality of the food. I am Always surprised that food hygiene has allowed the toilet to continue. It's such a shame. Otherwise take the food home and enjoy it

This is a nice friendly deli come cafe but charges restaurant prices for quite small portions. But the toilet is really awful. Not clean and I wondered how it has not been shut down. The food is prepared daily on the premises and it is really tasty but not very good value. Top prices in rather scruffy surroundings. I go there quite often because it's a sort of round the corner place but very doubtful about the cleanliness given state of toilet

Stopped here today for a takeaway sandwich with my client and was greeted warmly Placed my order, a No.13 on their menu a toasted panini with chicken, mozzarella, sundried tomatoes and rocket. It was tasteless, had only half a sundried tomato and a couple of shriveled leaves of rocket around the outer edge to look like there was more inside. More taste in a supermarket sarnie and half the cost!!!

I love the antipasti at Angel. They also do some of the best ham and salami I have had outside Italy. Good coffee, cheerful atmosphere, what more would you want?

Just off Upper Street this place makes a real change from the expensive glitzy cafes many of which are chains. The coffee is good and you can enjoy a seat on the quiet street or in the rear garden. Light snacks and cakes are available but I just had a very good cappuccino.

I stopped in the Angel for a morning cappucino last year while exploring the Islington neighborhood I was staying in. Pietro & his wife were very welcoming & I returned another day for a (tasty) lunch. I recently returned to London & made it a point to stop by for lunch. The gnocchi & mixed salad were freshly made & as good as I remember. Since there are only a couple of small tables where customers can sit inside, most locals order sandwiches to go. Pietro showed me the back garden where there are now tables for dining "al fresco" in warmer weather. Prices are reasonable but what makes the Angel special is the genuine friendliness of the owners.

Fomos um grupo de amigos a um brunch ao fim de semana. Uma tábua de queijos, enchidos, pão e outras iguarias italianas preparadas no local. Excelente atendimento italiano, o proprietário muito simpatico bem como os restantes empregados, sempre muito eficientes. O preco foi barato

The title sums it up. Obviously the beef lasagne was gone off: even though the guy made a song and dance about it being the best lasagne. From 5pm all night horrendous diarrohea and projectile vomiting... 11.20am now and it's still going on. I am so hacked off. It's a shame because I wanted to like this place. Truly awful if they are serving gone off lasagne.if you were a child or pregnant women and had eaten this you'd be a whole lot of trouble.

This cafe and delicatessen is in a quiet road just off Upper Street. Some of the staff do not speak good English so you know that you have reached a genuine place. There is delightful seating outside on the pavement and in a small enclosure at the back. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. The food included some unusual Italian delicacies (including Portugese custard pies!) and a good selection of cold hors d'oeuvres. There may be minor errors in your order due to language differences but that is the Italian way. Well worth visiting for a coffee or breakfast.
