Albatross Italian Restaurant in Great Yarmouth

My wife and I took our 4 kids here (ages 13, 11, 9 & 7) and we loved it! We were made feel welcome from the moment we entered the door. The food arrived exactly as ordered and pretty fast too. We are looking forward to our next visit.

This place has been closed permanently. Came at Easter, no sign of life there day or night.

Came in early September (I checked) disgusting food and the chef is rude. And I’m glad you’ve been closer for 4 months

Awful food and rude staff. I’ve never been treated so badly in my life. Mussels were gone off and made me sick. Should be reported to health and saftey control.

The service by the waitress was very quick and friendly but the food was not great, the pasta we had tasted like it was from a packet including the sauce and undercooked, and the chocolate dessert was very dry and had a very bland taste, did not even have ice cream with it, If this did it may have made it taste better if this was included in the price. I would not say it was worth the £48 I payed unfortunately ( including 2 drinks )

We had the lasagna with garlic bread & bottled beers. A nice combination! Looked after by a smiling waitress & we were served within 25 minutes. Can recommend. Very clean tables & cutlery. Steps lead to restaurant so be aware if mobility issues are a problem. Thank you.

Food was so good. Pizza was lovely but after reading other reviews we saved enough room for desert, a very good call. The home made tiramisu was amazing and a very good sized portion. Waitress was lovely, friendly and easy to talk to. We will be going back for more!

The service and meal we had were all very good quality with generous helpings. In fact couldn't fault the meal however the decor certainly needs an upgrade. Not sure if it has been re-decorated since the new owners took over but it is dowdy looking and the furniture old fashioned. The place would be much more appealing if it was brightened up. We will try it again in the future and hope the standard of the premises matches the good standard of the food.

Worst restaurant I have EVER been to. We ordered mussels, which on arrival smelt absolutely rancid. I asked to change my starter and didn’t eat a single bite. My sister ordered olives which clearly came straight from a jar- and were awful. My friend ordered melon and Parma ham, and was served two pitiful slices of Parma ham. The chef then refused to serve us our mains. The waitress was nice and apologised, but in the service industry this is unacceptable. Avoid at ALL costs.

I read the reviews before coming here and saw a range of good to bad reviews…. Let me tell you, this restaurant was SO good. Me and my partner both ordered the piccante pizza. It was amazing, by far the best pizza I’ve tasted, didn’t bloat me out either which I find most pizzas do! We ordered the homade desert of the day which was a chocolate cake. And oh my😍😍😍 was delicious you need to try. Very lovely atmosphere, music and waitresses. 10/10 from me and my partner ❤️

Went here for anniversary meal with my wife. The special was spaghetti and meatballs. Which I had accompanied by cheesy garlic bread. Washed down with a bottle of chianti. The toffee cheesecake for dessert was quite simply out of this world. My wife had salmon tagliatelle followed by tiramasu. All under 70 quid. You won't beat it in Great Yarmouth, which is why I awarded 5 stars .

Really nice place with great feel. My daughter fancied some spaghetti carbonara, so we decided to go there. No booking and they are getting pretty busy at some point but we'd been offered a table anyway. I liked the decor (it is in the basement but that only adds to the charm). I liked the music playing in the background as well as you can pretend you're on the streets of Italy 😉 Our food was served rather quickly, was full of flavour, very tasty. Staff very attentive and polite.

I visited this restaurant and was shocked and disgusted by the extremely poor level of cleanliness. The cutlery, glasses and table was dirty, the table had food on from previous customers. When the food arrived, there was a hair in the food and the sides of the plate looked dirty. However I must say the staff were understanding despite the manager telling them that we should pay for the other meal that didn’t have a hair in. Please take this feedback on board because clearly nothing has changed since the 2 star food hygiene rating given in 2019 which states improvement necessary.

Delicious food at decent prices. We all (5 of us) thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The best meal we had on our holiday. Highly recommend.

After a long day needing some nice food we decided on italian well very small place hot and dingey staff ok i suppose got what we ordered but pizza very doughy tasting my meal was absolutly vile and not how should be served having sone italian family noing exactly what should look and taste like my sisters food she liked but said was not how shpuld been either and also portion soze what a joke 5 small cuts of veal for £17 not worth it at all do not waste ur time wish i listened to reveiws and ps tables was discustingly dirty try some clothes guys or new tables.

Great service, tasty food. We came early at 5pm right after it has opened, so didn't have to book in advance, but for any later time a booking is highly recommended. I had a spaghetti Bolognese and house wine - delicious and for a reasonable price. The restaurant is located in the basement and the only way to get there is by going down a steep flight of stairs, so perhaps not the best for people with mobility problems. There was nice Italian music playing in the background, but nothing too loud to disturb our experience.

Small cellar restaurant with a absolutely first class menu. If you love freshly made Italian food this is the place to go. Great food with superb customer service. If going at the weekend you must book.

Did not expect to go downstairs for this restaurant entrance but it was nice. Felt very Italian in the vibe - set the scene. Food was good. Did not expect the calamari to come in a tomato sauce/unbattered, but it was actually really good. The pizza and garlic bread was nice. Nothing special but just edible and tasty. Did the job. Would go back. The place seemed popular too as there was so many people coming in! Good stuff. Reasonably priced

Fantastic service from Jodie ( waitress). First visit but not our last . Chicken in white wine cream and mushrooms was delicious. Atmosphere was relaxed nice background music . Decent price too. You need to walk downstairs to entrance . Decorated in a nice traditional way.

This was hands down the best Italian I have ever tasted. The staff are brilliant. We had a 2 year old and she was given a colouring book to keep her amused. The waitress made time to speak to us and the little one. If I didn't live so far away this would be my favourite place to eat. When I come back to Great Yarmouth I will be back. Prices are reasonable as well which makes it even better.

This little hidden gem was one of the best Italians we’ve had! The place was set in a really quaint authentic Italian restaurant. We had the calamari in tomato sauce to start and the flavours were insane! I had pizza to start and it was so authentic and amazing! It was made from scratch too which was great to hear! My partner has the creamy salmon linguine which was also amazing!! Service was great too! Thankyou so much x

Thoroughly check your bill Food wasn't too bad. Pizzas were tasty in my opinion, not the best but definitely not the worst. We ordered 2 kids pizzas aand 2 kids drinks, an adult pizza and pasta with a glass of house red and a beer....

Dark, not clean, chairs as old as the 1970s. Tables sticky. Food not genuine Italian and I'm from Italian decent, i know what real Italian food is, this is a copy a bad copy. Only the pizza is just about passable.

We came for coffee and dessert. Lime cheesecake was delicious. Tiramisu was okay. The latte was a disappointment though. Friendly staff.

Terrible food, every ingredient was frozen, nothing was fresh. The veal looked and tasted more like pork somehow? Both my partner and 2 year old son were both violently nauseous for a whole 24 hours after dining here. Carbonara also came out with no sauce whatsoever, when my partner asked if it was okay to maybe have some due to it being horrendously dry and bland, the waitress came back out with a stone cold white sauce and said the chef refuses to heat it up for us. Waitress’ were very polite, which is the only redeeming factor to this whole experience. Avoid at all costs. The evening came close to £100, very, very overpriced for a very sub par meal which was clearly bad or undercooked, due to my family catching food poisoning.

We stumbled upon this amazing Italian restaurant while staying in Great Yarmouth and I'm so pleased we did. I had the tagliatelle salmone and it was absolutely delicious. The cream sauce was so light and the salmon flakes were just so tasty. The tagliatelle was clearly freshly made and cooked to order. My hubby had the cheese tortellini with mushroom and again he said it was delicious. The staff are really friendly and were very attentive. The bill was very reasonable for such a high quality meal. We will definitely be back.

The food was really nice, we had the soup to start and spaghetti as a main, both of us had non alcoholic drinks too, wouldn’t say it was expensive. There was a slightly odd environment, they turned the music off half way through the meal...

Tried to visit on Monday 4h August after reading reviews on Tripadvisor. Unfortunately the restaurant is closed despite signs on the window saying it is open 7 days a week.

Baffled by all the good reviews for this restaurant - we struggled to find any positives other than our waitress being friendly. The food had zero taste, was clearly microwaved and overpriced. You would have got more flavour from a Tesco ready meal. Incredibly disappointed, to the extent that I have left my first ever online review for a restaurant.

We visited this restaurant after a recommendation from our guest house and few other people actually And now we became regular customers the food here is something else from cannaloni tortellini tricolori to bolonaise pizza and seafood all dishes are fresh and comes out piping...

Come cross this place on sunday night while on holiday And right from the start we made feel very welcome quickly seated the food was superb and very hot you tell its cooked there and then prices are reasonable and its was quiet cosy actually i recommend this place to anyone on holiday

A fresh cooked meal with herbs veg and decent cut of meat is all i needed from albatross after long hard day at work And i wasn't disappointed had ministroni soup packed with flavours cooked in olive oil with few slices of crunchy tiger bread and i had a double size portion of bolonaise as i was starving it was absolutely devine next time going to try talgatelli pasta with smoked salmon in cream sauce yummExcellent all arround very relaxing atmosphere Highly recommend

We love Italian food so booked this on the recommendation of the hotel where we were staying. Arrived to see a sign for cash only. Staff friendly and order taken promptly. Asked for a gin which arrived in a plain glass (the same as the glass of water) with no ice and when I asked for ice-she said oh ok and returned with a couple of cubes added. Decor quite bland and not very Italian.Pasta dishes arrived fairly hot with a good size portion but very very bland. No seasoning had been added. I know seasoning is personal but for me to add salt must be bad as I never use it. Prices reasonable. Would I recommend? Unfortunately not.

I’m not one for negative reviews but this “Italian” left much to be desired. A sign on the door saying cash only should have set alarm bells ringing, but in we went anyway. Inside, a nice enough cellar restaurant, and pleasant staff. No drought beer, just bottled. Ok, not a problem. The wife then chose a Lasagne, I fancied a pizza. Having ordered, the waitress returned to announce, “we’ve run out of pizzas”. Really? Don’t you make them fresh?, oh well, I’ll have lasagne as well. 2 minutes later it arrived. Extremely small portions, but quite tasty, as frozen ready meals often are.F you want authentic Italian food, you won’t find it gherkin I’m afraid.

If this is supposed to be the best Italian restaurant in town thankfully we didn't try any of the others. 0 points for front of house customer service. The very young staff have an attitude based on rudeness. Don't have the salad as it is drowned in balsamic vinegar therefore that is all you can taste. Excellent pizza dough chef and a pleasant cannelloni 3 points. I will take my Italian wife to Norwich tomorrow to try and find a real Italian restaurant

Went to this restaurant for dinner and would never go back or recommend to anyone! The tiny portion of food looked and tasted like a microwave meal not appealing at all and when you’re paying £17 for a main meal you expect more than 5 mouth fulls. Ridiculously over priced! The staff didn’t have a clue about anything and when I complained the waitress simply walked off. Do not go there ever you’re better off getting a Maccy D’s

Lovely little Italian restaurant with great service. Food was good, the calamari in tomato sauce was bursting with flavour and very authentic pizza and pasta dishes.

Since we booked over the phone with young lady she was very helpful nothing is too much for her even when we changed our time slot she was more then happy to do so for us Food was propre tasty all the dishes that we had were all cooked to perfection shame they run out of tiramisu that night but we are coming back in two weeks time for caister music festival Highly recommend this hidden gem

We discovered this place while on holiday in great yarmouth and to be honest we haven't eating anywhere else since Loved the food in here so much and so do my kids My little'un kept asking daddy when we going back to the Italian lol Just want to say Thank you for having us guys will be back next year hopefully Barry and family

My partner and I came here for dinner, food was excellent and service was good. Wasn't rushed and they had to turn people away as busy. My advice would be to phone and book in advance. Thank you x

We dined here on thursday nite just before the fire work started we didn't book and the girls managed to fit us in after a little wait as they were very busy We had a bottle soave and couple of berra moretti to drink and we ordered the chicken doria in brandi cream and masrhroom sauce it was absolutely devine only one minor is it does get hot in there they can do with a air con or something Will deffo recommend

Came here for dinner. Excellent tasty food and staff were great. Very busy so I'd advise to book a table as they were having to turn people away. Very covid friendly as tables spaced apart and staff all wore masks. Definitely recommend to everyone 👌

Really disappointed in the gluten free options. Italian restaurant that has no gluten free pasta options. Not only that the Portions were tiny and price was stupid. Had four tiny pieces of beef for £17. Wont be going again until they have better options.

We had an impromptu visit here and found the staff to be accommodating, we had 3 lovely meals, kids spaghetti, seafood pasta and callaloni, we couldn’t fault the service either and was surprised to see the reviews today. Yes, the restaurant needs a fresh lick of paint and due to being in the basement it was dark. However we are in a large tourist town and are unlikely to have the ritz on every corner.

Went for dinner after a busy day in Great Yarmouth, but it was a very disappointing end to the day. The restaurant is dark and grubby looking which was off putting. The staff were friendly enough but the food was awful - garlic bread just tasted of margarine, the pasta was over cooked and watery - would not recommend.

Sadly, we were VERY disappointed after having read some of the reviews.The service was ok, but the food was terrible.The manager said that they had a new chef!!Hmmm?? A chef who obviously doesn't check the food before seasoning!! VERY SALTY, to the point that it was inedible!!Upon complaint to the manager, we offered free glass of wine each!!WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE RETURNING!!!!

Family of 7 visited. 2 pizzas returned because they were burned. All 7 of us ate at different times. 1 of the party didn't eat at all. Front of house staff had no idea what was going on in the kitchen. Simply awful. Chaos!

Not very impressed with this restaurant at all. They had written my name down incorrectly so at first they didn't think I had booked at all despite me spelling my name at time of booking over the phone. We were taken to our table which they had decorated with a birthday banner and table confetti but only 3 party poppers were there when there were 4 of us. We were sat at a round table of 6 when there was only 4 of us which meant we were awkwardly spaced out. The starter was nice albeit small. It took an age for the waitress to clear our starter plates. Then when she brought extra drinks over she didn't take the empty glasses and bottle away. I had to call her back to clear it but then she didn't take the empty bottle only the glasses. The 9" pizzas arrived but they were so thick on the base and the crust and just tasted like cheap takeaway pizzas. The edible part was probably a 7". Again took an age to get the plates cleared away but the bill arrived farely swiftly thank goodness. Although they didn't take card as their machine had broken so my husband had to walk to the cash point. The music was shrilling opera and a tennor singer which was absolutely awful. I couldn't bear it any longer. The venue looked very run down with cheap wallpaper trying to look trendy. The manager wore a white t shirt and trainers. Not very professional looking at all. I am so surprised this restaurant had good reviews as I would never recommend anyone to go here. I think the owners are trying to punch above their weight and is nothing like a professional Italian restaurant.

Where on earth do I start… we booked a table the previous day for a group of 8 of us, only to be told upon arrival that they couldn’t find our booking, they even said that we hadn’t booked (same thing happened to the group in front of us). They kicked us out and told us to wait an hour in the pouring rain for a table to become available. They then called us back 10 minutes later saying that a table had become available, after realising that our reservation had been noted on the back of a napkin. We were seated at our table and our drinks order was taken. The waitress then returned for food orders only to then inform us that there were no pizzas, despite all 8 of us going there for pizza - imagine not telling us before our drinks order that the pizza restaurant has no pizza. To rub salt in the wounds, one of our guests was allergic to egg, and they proceeded to claim that none of their pasta (pizza alternatives) contained egg - what sort of authentic Italian restaurant prepares pasta with no egg? Does this establishment microwave pasta ready meals from Lidl’s? We proceeded to walk out, having been made to pay for our drinks. Overall we were highly disappointed with both the menu options and service received, utterly appalling and would not recommend to anyone visiting Great Yarmouth, avoid at all costs!

Spent some time wandering around Yarmouth to find something to our taste. Used trip advisor snd decided on this place as reviews seemed good. Wandered down stairs and was told by the waitress only table they had needed to be turned in an hour. Absolutely no problem for us after a day of travelling with two kids (aged 8 & 6). 30 mins after sitting down (therefore 30 mins before our table was reserved for someone else) we still hadn’t had our drink order taken, let alone food. The couple on the table next to us had their pasta dishes delivered and were both saying how unpleasant and clearly out of a packet they were and dried pasta not made fresh.We decided to give up, walked past the three waitresses who showed little to no interest in the fact we had walked out. Amazed this place has the food reviews it does as was truly rubbish!!!

We were looking for any italian restaurant on our holiday trip because we love it. So we found that one. And what can I say ? We ordered carbonara and lasagne. Normal time to prepare is around 30-40 min. We got our food in 10 minutes. Carbonara was as any garlic double cream sauce and lasagne like from microwave. Be honest it looks for us as lunch boxes from any supermarket. We ate just few bites. And then whole night we're sick. Its really bad. Also i didnt get spoon to my pasta.

we became a regular customers here despite we hate waiting but the food is worth waiting for ,on our third visit on the 21st of july there was a wedding party event in the restaurant so we got up and had cheeky little dance with bridesmaid after few drinks we always leave a good tip as the staff at the front and back work really hard looking forward to our Saturday meal with our work colleagues

my husband and i ate here few times never had a bad meal tortellini to die for in creamy sauce cheese and mushrooms my husband loves the fillet of salmon with taragan white wine and cream we will try the steaks on our next visits

if you come to yarmouth make sure you try the food in albatross and you won`t regret it simply the best food we ever eaten

We booked a table here after a recommendation from our guest house host the its very busy but the ladies at the front worked sat us to the table quickly the food was absolutely devine piping hot we will deffo be back in August Highly recommend

Food and service not great. Forgot our drinks order

Lovely interior is all I can say.Staff scurry around confused mixing up orders, mains not brought in together, slow inefficient service. It would all be acceptable if the food was good! But unfortunately it was strangely put together, poor quality and masquerading as Italian food. I'm very familiar with Italian cuisine and my dinner companions were Italian! We left without ordering desert disappointed and still hungry. We certainly don't mind paying high prices but not for poor quality food.

I am Italian and the food was absolutely not italian. My advice is: avoid it !
