We were absolutely blown away by this place. The food was incredible - fresh, full of flavour, a huge variety of ingredients and cooked to absolute perfection. The price is extremely reasonable. The service is excellent. The atmosphere with the music at just the right level for background, beautiful decor and impeccably clean, made it a fantastic dining experience all-round.

Everything is amazing, nice and relaxing seating areas, very good food and services. Definitely recommended!!

Excellent food and probably the most authentic Thai food that I've ever had outside of Thailand. I would like the portion sizes to be bigger but that's because I love the food so much. Would definitely recommend to all Thai food lovers and to anyone who hasn't tasted this fantastic food yet.

It's been a while since we were able to go here. I believe there are new owners. The decor is lovely, relaxing and intimate. We were picking up take away and the wait was very reasonable considering we walk-in and ordered. The Prawn Pad Thai was fantastic, great flavours, plenty of everything, definitely a winner. We also had some prawn starters, also amazing. And some of the best spring rolls. Service polite, friendly and quick. Highly recommend these guys.

Excellent food. The menu doesn’t list many vegetarian dishes but tofu and veg versions of most dishes are available on request. I loved the veggie pad Thai. My partner raved about the aubergine curry. The restaurant isn’t licensed but you can bring your own. Well worth a visit.

We had a fabulous meal at 9Thai on NYE 2023. A group of 4 and we all really really enjoyed our meal. All of the food was very good quality, there was plenty of it and it was all well priced. Service and restaurant ambience both really great also. We will definitely be back!

The last review on here about extortionate prices must have lost their mind.. my husband and I had just travelled from Chedder where a Tofu massaman was priced at £16 in the local Thai restaurant.. all the curries here are about £9? Anyway, we had prawn crackers, 2 starters, 3 mains and 3 soft drinks (there's no alcohol here as far as I could see) and it came to £50 which I think is a completely reasonable price. No tofu on the menu but they did have it when I asked and were very accommodating . We both enjoyed our curries and the prawn rice was amazing! If we didn't live 3 hours away we would be here every week. Also, really great service as well!

Ordered a pad thai, tom yum and the singapore noodles. the beef in the pad thai and tom yum was grey and just boiled it seemed like, chewy, low quality in general. the tom yum was literally just ginger soup. so much ginger it was overpowering, and other than the ginger had zero layers of flavour. all the vegetable at the bottom were also bland the pad thai was so so bland and tasteless, i had to pour a load of salt on it in a desperate attempt to bring out some flavour. how the hell are they charging £10 for this? they also claim to be authentic thai, but then didn't even include peanuts in their pad thai, nor dried shrimp? I don't even think they had tamarind paste in there. the singapore noodles were OK. they weren't tasteless, but they just again only tasted like the curry powder and had ZERO kick (which they're supposed to have in AUTHENTIC thai cuisine). overall I think they are having a laugh with their prices to be honest, and the rest of these 5 star reviews are from people just excited to have a local thai restaurant open. You should save your money on these extortionate prices and put everything together at home with some salt, even if you have no clue what you're doing you'll still end up with more flavour than these one dimensional tasting 'authentic' dishes. Much room for improvement.

Simple, fresh, affordable, very tasty and authentic Thai cuisine. A great find, stylishly minimalist decor and very pleasant and helpful service. Highly recommended. The restaurant is not licensed but the nearby Polish shop sells a great Romanian merlot, so you can bring your own.

Outstanding Panang curry, the dish is full of deep, warming traditional flavour. I ordered a take away, which was cooked in a few minutes, the restaurant looks very welcoming and the staff were very friendly. It was that good I went back the next evening and had it again. Well worth a visit, I understand they don’t have an alcohol license but do allow bring your own, best to check if this has changed when you visit.

Excellent, at last a good place to go out to eat in Newtown

The food was lovely, the staff were brilliant. The total bill was a joke for the quality we received. Newtown is lucky to have a place like this, what a treat. You can substitute most of the proteins in the dishes to make an easy dozen vegan options with tofu. Can't recommend enough. As a non vegan I had the cantaloupe tea with passion fruit boba which was out of this world.

Four of us had a fantastic meal here with lovely food and great service. Would recommend without hesitation and will be back soon, thank you.

The food was perfect, fresh produce and authentic spices, highly recommend the Tomyum prawn soup and also the beef skewers. But everyone enjoyed their dishes. Little gem of a restaurant it was well worth a visit.

We went here twice on our visit to Newtown, and we will definitely be returning on our future visits! We had wonderful Thai milk tea, duck and leek spring rolls, panang chicken curry (which was lovely and mild, just like I asked for), pad Thai, and prawn crackers. Everything was delicious, the waitress was very friendly and helpful, and the food came out very quickly. The restaurant was lovely and clean and beautifully decorated. I would highly recommend for anyone to try 9 Thai!

In Newtown for a week....food was amazing...if you want good Thai food this is the place to go. We are coming back again before we go back home. Fast and friendly service 11/10 it really was that good

Had a takeaway from 9thai this evening and having been to Thailand i was sceptical as to whether it would taste the same but it exceeded my expectations 😆 I ordered a few dishes but Tom Yum soup was a favourite of mine while travelling and since coming home nothing has come close so i had to order it and I’m so glad I did, it took me right back to Thailand - absolutely delicious as was it all, would recommend 9thai 10/10

What a great find for delicious and well prepared Thai food in Newtown. A lovely welcome from the owners ensured a great food experience in a clean and airy environment with a gentle atmosphere. Our starters of crispy squid and a plate of tasty prawns prawns were very appetising and cooked lovely. The panang curry with chicken and vegetables was delicious as was the Thai fried rice with prawns and vegetables. This is a must try restaurant and the chef will adapt any dish to your preferred taste or ingredients. A very pleasing and wonderful dining experience and it has certainly become one of our regular and favourite port of call. Thank you both so much.

Visited here last night with friends, what a fab little place the food was perfectly cooked and delicious, friendly and efficient service as well. The interior is quite basic but you can tell that they are upgrading the place, also they are not licensed for alcohol as yet so take your own 👍🏻 this is definitely worth a visit if you are in Newtown 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Our fourth visit to 9thai, since the new owners took over and it didn't disappoint! Delicious food as usual. I don't think everyone locally is aware, that it's actually under new management and that they've kept the name! A huge improvement on the previous owners...

Came to Wales for a long weekend holiday, was getting pretty sick of the usual British food so decided to try this place and wow, what a little gem, the food was fresh, full of flavour and made me feel like I'd actually injested something wholesome. And to top it off the staff were super sweet. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area.

Lovely dinner here after a long day of driving. All dishes were perfectly prepared and very tasty. Moreish noodles, fragrant curry! The strawberry cheesecake was divine. We also liked the ukulele playlist a lot. :D

Visited a few months ago after moving to the area. What a fantastic thai! Food is amazing and authentic! We were the only dining in guests on the date we visited and the decor is simple yet clean and tidy. This place is all about the food! Easily cater for vegetarians too. Husband and wife run, wife is the chef and husband is front of house. Attentive and very welcoming. This is one of my favourites locally already. Definitely recommend!

I’m disappointed with the portion size. The food is poor quality as a takeout however when dinning in its 10/10. I would not recommend this place sorely based on the price and portions.

Had a lovely meal at 9 Thai last night. It was quiet as it was a very warm tuesday night but were made to feel very welcome. The food was delicious. We have visited Thailand before and the food at 9 Thai tasted very authentic. So glad to found a local good Thai restaurant, we will be back!

Stopped by to order takeaway and decided to eat in. We started with the mixed starter for two, which was a great way to try some of the starters. My wife then had the special stir fry chicken with cashews and I had the Panang curry with jasmine rice. The food had a homecooked feel and was absolutely wonderful. So many other items we want to try, so will be back very soon. Highly recommended.

Excellent authentic Thai food in a simple pleasant setting, with an equally pleasant host. Cleaned our plates.

Very unassuming from the outside but delicious food. Bring your own alcohol suited us and made the bill a lot cheaper. All the food from the prawn tempura starters, pad thai, green curry and red curry was delicious. Would highly recommend. Lovely friendly service. Would advise booking in advance as it’s only a small place so they can be ready for you.

We had an overnight stop in Newtown so decided to try 9Thai. We sat in the restaurant (although they do offer take away) and ordered the mixed starter for two, chicken massaman curry and pork basil stir fry. Absolutely delicious. Really fresh "home cooked" taste, not like the stuff you tend to get at chain restaurants which can taste overly processed. The staff were very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. Cannot recommend highly enough. We will definitely be coming back!!

Just had a delicious dinner at 9Thai. Very pleased we stopped by for a sit down dinner. The food was all freshly prepared and was very tasty. I got the feeling the food was authentic Thai food. We'll definitely eat here again.

First time ordering from 9 Thai tonight, and was very excited to try the food. We ordered a few dishes to try a selection and so glad we did as they were all delicious. The Chicken Panang curry was incredible, so fragrant we had medium heat and it was perfectly spicy. This was our favourite of the dishes we tried. We also tried the Basil Veg with Beef which packed a punch heat/spice wise. But the veggies were perfectly cooked still with a little crunch. We also tried the Pad Se-ew noodles with pork and that was also very yummy. Would highly recommend. Decently priced for the quality of flavour, super friendly customer service and easy to use website. An asset to the local area.
