Had amazing hot rocks steaks, fantastic value for money, and very friendly and attentive staff, coping extremely well with a full restaurant. We have recently been to Miller and Carter, had a very disappointing meal, they are not a patch on 1884 steaks. I highly recommend this restaurant, Boness is so lucky to have this wee gem in the town

This was a terrific meal. My husband and I had never had hot rocks and to be honest he was a little sceptical but WAW.... amazing, totally converted it was fantastic. The steaks were out of this world. They come from the owners own butcher shop, I had rib eye husband had fillet. We loved cooking them it was so different. The staff were really friendly and informative, guiding us on how to use the rocks and explaining all the dishes. I’ve eaten steaks from this family run butchers before and they are outstanding every time. This is a must try restaurant.

A visit to the 1884 is a must I was here with a friend and on first look outside the premises there was no menu indicating what they served but my friend said we’ll go in and look at menu and were pleasantly surprised at what we saw. We both went for black heart chicken and were told immediately it would take 20-25 minutes to wait which wasn’t a problem.we’ll the meal was absolutely fantastic and well worth the wait I will certainly be back when in the area. (Maybe it’s just me but I like to see a menu displayed outside)

Was keen to give the old Bistro a try . Visit didn't star off great as we were advised as soon as we sat down the there was only one portion of fish left and two of the company had decided this was what they fancied , not a huge problem as the menu has plenty of choice . Girl took the order and said they had run out of peas to go with the fish again no big deal . Fish arrived looked fine two steak pies came and looked terrible . Steak pie and a slop of mash no veg , poor looking plate I have to say had to assume the steak pie should also have been served with peas . My steak wrap was however really nice. By 7.30 the place was empty so no atmosphere. 8.10 we were asked if she could bring the bill over so felt a bit like the staff wanted to shut up shop . All in all a bit disappointing.

It is some time since we ate in the kitchen and grill. We had a snack lunch of toasties with salad which were very nice. We left at 1.30 and were surprised as the restaurant was empty. First time we have ever been in this restaurant and found it so quiet. Service was good and efficient.

Went here a few Sundays ago, small restaurant but the food and service was excellent!! Steak Pie was brilliant and the starters were amazing. The staff were very attentive and made sure that my 18 month old granddaughter was catered for as well. Will definitely visit again Thanks

My wife and I were in Bo'ness for the Hippfest festival, and dropped in here for a light meal before a long session of films. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, and the food sourced from the owner's butchery business was very nice.

It was so good to see the bistro opening again after such a long time. It was sorely missed. We drop in often for coffee and scones. Meals are excellent too. You always have a nice welcome from the lovely Jill. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed.

A miserable day but we stopped off at this lovely wee restaurant/pub for lunch We needed a gluten free for one of our party and were pleasantly surprised by the options available Staff were so helpful and service really good Just enough time to have finished eating before plates were removed Food was great and reasonably priced wine If you can take tables towards the back as they were nearest the radiator Not that the restaurant was cold but it was a dreary day snd this was a cosy corner for us to sit and relax

First time I've been to the this place very clean and food very good. Marked this 3 out of 5 as found the staff eaten behind the counter a bit off putting. Surely you can eat out of the food preparation area. Wouldnt stop me trying it again though.

Was advised by guests at another hotel that Powfoulis Manor did excellent food so we called in on spec. We had a freshly cooked 4 course meal at £35 each, generous portions and very tasty. The restaurant was immaculately clean and staff attentive. Will return.
