Mango House

Vaynor, Merthyr Tydfil
18/12/2018: Visited Mango house for the first time tonight to celebrate our daughters graduation. The food was absolutely gorgeous and the service was outstanding. All my family said they will definitely b coming back. Honestly the best service I have had in a restaurant. Will definitely recommend to friends.
07/12/2018: the service is first class they are also great at up-selling to get you to buy/try more food than you can possibly eat, the nan bread was gorgeous but i do have some issues with portion size, poppadums and taste, first off the poppadums were so thin it was impossible to break off and reasonable sized piece and load it with chutney and onions as it was so thin it just shattered my jeans will prove this, portion sizes are small compared to indian restaurants i have visited and i have visited many living fairly close to the curry mile, my hose special had 2 small pieces of chicken and a small timbale of rice which i felt short changed given the price, the taste was good but no better than my local indian restaurants, all in all completely underwhelmed

Aberglais Inn

Vaynor, Merthyr Tydfil, <20£
12/12/2018: Beautiful meal in relaxed surroundings. They did a table for us in the bar as the restaurant was busy. Meal delicious. Generous portions. Friendly staff. My friends , who are notoriously hard to please as they are from London , were extremely impressed also.
11/12/2018: Exceptionally Supportive and Friendly Staff . A very reasonable priced menu with excellent quality food . Staff were great bringing out Birthday Cake and ensuring table was prepared with Birthday Balloon. All meals were of the highest standard , home cooked and piping hot with exceptionally generous portions . Highly Recommend a visit . It’s also Pet Friendly in the Bar area . A complete Winner for everyone . All six meals were fantastic .

Flooks Cafe

Plymouth, Merthyr Tydfil
24/11/2018: Although when I’ve visited the tea room at lunchtimes on a few occasions and enjoyed the food served I must say that I was really disappointed today when we went there for afternoon tea. I rang around 11am to book a table for 4 @ 2pm and was told as this was a late booking we would have to accept the savouries they had but could choose the desserts. As I’d experienced nice food previously and I believed as a cafe/tearoom had a varied menu I didn’t think there was anything to worry about. Unfortunately for the price of £12 per person we were bitterly disappointed. On the stand was 1 pig in blanket each (mini sausage), a tiny spring roll each, a variety of finger sandwiches whic left a lot to the imagination!! I’m sorry to say the cakes were not that palatable either. What a total waste of money! There are only 3/4 tables in total and it wasn’t busy! Before we left a couple came in. They appeared to have corn beef slices and crisps on their plate stand. I fail to see why we couldn’t have the same. It looked far more substantial considering we paid the same! It’s safe to say we will not be returning. £48 for half a sandwich, a couple of cakes and a few pots of tea!! We could have had a banquet from M&S;.
06/11/2018: The choices available were quite extensive for the price. There were sandwiches, savoury and sweet offerings. The only thing was we only had 1 drink each and weren't sure if there was more within the price or not. However, the room available was done lovely and we all enjoyed our good choices.

Red Cow Inn

Town, Merthyr Tydfil
29/09/2018: I have been a regular visitor to this pub for 2 years and often bring my German Shepherd. Since new ownership and holidays I hadn’t been for a while. Went this evening with my partner. Bar was filthy and I was served a gin and tonic in a small glass out of a flat bottle of tonic! We were sat outside and decided to go in. The pub was quite busy and we noted the reserved tables so waited patiently for a bar table. To our disgust me and my partner were told to vacate the table for people without a reservation who had just walked in by a hopeless woman with no manners. We left our almost full drinks and walked out. It’s important to realise in the winter months when the ‘passing’ trade disappears people like us are your bread and butter. This pub is evidently not DOG FRIENDLY anymore and cater for walk inns. Avoid at all costs and visit one of the more friendly places in this area. Ironically we were actually going to order dinner but this experience has now changed our opinion!
29/09/2018: Went on Sat eve at 7:40 for a meal. After waiting for the barmaid we asked if they were serving food only to be told "No" rather grumpily, although the sign said they served till 9pm! Didn't look very welcoming and we're glad to leave.

La Bodega

Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil, 20-30£
04/10/2018: O. M. G. Thank you Trip Advisor for introducing us to the most fantastic restaurant. I have had the most fantastic peppered steak that I’ve had in a long time. My 2 friends both enjoyed their Gammons and their Salmon. The service was great, attentive, professional, and friendly I cannot praise this place enough, it is hard to find as it is close to a shop that attracts a lot of vehicles, but, when you are eating the meal you think you are in London at a top class restaurant, it’s only when you get the unbelievably reasonable bill that you realise where you are. See you again soon.
21/09/2018: Looking back on our evening at La Bodega I wonder if it was just a bizarre dream.

The Butcher's Arms

Vaynor, Merthyr Tydfil
29/10/2018: Another absolutely georgous Sunday lunch, all fresh veg, succulent meats, and so plentiful, piping hot to. Lovely friendly staff/owners, and a lovely cosy Pub, cant understand why it was so quiet. Best food for miles !!!! cant wait to return very soon..
28/09/2018: Another great meal and experience at the Butchers!!! Really friendly staff and excellent food with a wide choice of drinks available. Our family and friends always have a good time here and feel really welcome.

Harvester Merthyr Tydfil

Cyfarthfa, Merthyr Tydfil, >100£
11/11/2018: Our first visit to a Harvester and it was fab, the food was very good and out host Wayne made our visit that extra special, he was happy, pleasant and knew what he was doing, like a breath of fresh air! will deffo love to visit again, make sure you leave room for the puddings :-)
01/11/2018: My friend and I called for lunch today. I was very pleasantly surprised atthe number of vegetarian options and even some vegan. I ordered the sweet corn fritters which were tangy with chipotle and sweet with maple syrup with two free range runny eggs. Absolutely delicious. The service was excellent and they have a high food hygiene certificate. The disabled toilet was spotless. I will definitely return.

Nant Ddu Lodge Restaurant

Gurnos, Merthyr Tydfil
22/10/2018: Just arrived home from an overnight stay at this hotel, words can’t describe how disappointed we were on arrival to our room, which I may add was quite far away from all the facilities, even thou I send an email prior to our arrival asking for a room if possible close to the facilities due to limited mobility. Anyway aside from the distance the walk up to the room highlighted how much this hotel has dated and is in need of a major refurbishment. On entering our room I was disappointed to say the least, from the stains on the carpet to the ladies razor blade found on the bathroom floor. We made a quick exit down to the spar area and yet again on the way witnessed many areas needing work on. On entering the jacuzzi area my husband put his head on the head rest and noticed that they were not secured when we checked we could see that there were three head rests broken and hardly any of the air jets were working. On my husband wishes I agreed not to make a fuss and agreed I would stay and have a meal in the restaurant. This experience was some what different, from the food to the service we couldn’t have asked for better. To my dismay we then had to go back up to the room which I can say easily was the worse I have ever stayed in. The noise from all the other rooms was unbelievable, the bed was uncomfortable, the room was cold even thou we put the portable heater that they had put in the room on. Me and my husband at this point counted down the hours till we could leave. Seeing daylight was the highlight of our stay and I can honestly say I would never stay here again if it was given to me for free. Be aware we booked a standard room so wasn’t expecting something fantastic but we were given what I would class as a room not suitable for anyone to stay in. A stay in a standard room including breakfast and evening meal set us back £210. My advice if you want somewhere for a lovely meal then this is the place but if you want to have a comfortable relaxing overnight stay then avoid this place.
14/10/2018: Always visit the Nant Ddu for food when returning to visit family in Wales and enjoy a lovely meal in the Bar area, which is always good.

Taj indian cusiene

Vaynor, Merthyr Tydfil
24/10/2018: Worst Indian in Merthyr, really wouldn’t bother visiting. Waiter rude, food poor and you can not even take what you order home with you when you’ve paid for it! Very disappointed, would not recommend or return again.
22/08/2018: Great range of nice tasting food in a nice environment. Well priced with friendly staff who aren't pushy. Had the butter chicken and would definitely recommend it

Plas Coffi

Plymouth, Merthyr Tydfil
16/09/2018: We visited twice and both times, service was very friendly and efficient. We had burgers the first time with home made ketchup (delicious!) and fries and onion rings. But their real specialty, as their name suggests, is hand made pizza, which we had on our second visit. The variety on offer was truly impressive—they even have vegan options. I had the buffalo mozzarella and sun dried tomato pizza which was top notch with a perfectly baked crust. Prices are very reasonable, too.
09/09/2018: We visited last night, off the cuff afnd they managed to fit us in with a short wait so we took advantage of the really cool bar area. The shabby chic industrial decor is really cool! Staff were very friendly and we had homemade burger with blue cheese and onion relish/blue cheese; I have to say it was the nicest burger I've ever tasted..and thats a bold statement. Nice cocktails too! Worth a visit for sure.

Y Pant Cad Ifor Inn

Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil
08/08/2018: Fantastic little spot. Great place. Stopped here with a family of 6 and a large dog. Very accommodating. Had a great table near the bar. The dog and us all had plenty of space. They provided water and treats for the dog. When ordering they were very helpful and were able to change our orders to our specific tastes. Food was good. Reasonably priced. Everyone was friendly. If we come to wales again we will pop back. Highly recommended.
05/08/2018: Myself and my partner have visited a lot of different places in Merthyr for Sunday dinner and this takes first place hands down. Would go as far to say if I was on death row and had only 1 last meal it would be Sunday dinner from this pub! Lovely staff, great atmosphere and super fast service! Thanks guys :)

The Dragonfly

Cyfarthfa, Merthyr Tydfil
10/12/2018: First, and probably last, visit to this pub. Only visited because of it's locality to the Travelodge.
09/12/2018: I had veggie lasagne. It was very dry and quite brown. No lovely red tomato sauce or oozing cheese topping here. I wanted to order a hot chocolate after my meal. The waitress told me not to bother as it came out like water and wasn't very nice. So I didn't bother. On the whole, quite disappointing.

Bessemer Carvery and Grill

Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil
12/12/2018: We stayed for two nights playing in a local tournament the staff were very friendly and the food was lovely couldn’t fault it
10/12/2018: Our family of 12 people mixed ages went for Sunday lunch we have been to Bessemer several times evening and lunch and never had a complaint yesi it could do with some new table mats but the atmosphere is nice the staff friendly and the food never fails to please even the smallest member of our family well done

Table Table Pentrebach House

3 offers
Plymouth, Merthyr Tydfil
16/12/2018: Two night stay in adjacent premier inn, breakfast on Saturday 15th was fine, attentive staff and prompt service. This morning was a different matter - very busy as they had taken bookings for ‘breakfast and present from Santa’ and there were many happy families with excited children alongside those of us who wanted a quick breakfast and be on our way. One member of staff trying to greet, take orders and replenish the buffet area .... hopeless
11/12/2018: Had an amazing Sunday lunch, it was huge, lovely and hot, the beef and pork was so tender you could cut it with a fork.

Red Spice

Park, Merthyr Tydfil
08/12/2018: Had a delivery here 3 times and all 3 times been late. Ordered today at 5:20, told it would be here by 6:45. 7:40 it arrived.... With a missing curry and sauces. Answered the phone but put on the hook TWICE I phoned. So spoken to no one. No one answers the phones.
30/11/2018: Firstly, I have eaten curry all over the world in many different restaurants and this review is the absolute truth about what happened the night I visited with a friend.
