On the Hill

Ruthin, Denbighshire
29/03/2020: We live in Manchester but have been here three times now as it is absolutely amazing! The lunch set menu is incredible value for the quality of the food. My boyfriends favourite pie ever (a tall order) was served here. He has tried both the venison and beef pies and says they are both delicious! I don’t like black pudding usually but love the starter here with the crispy egg. I normally have fish and it is excellent. Beautifully presented, great staff, fantastic flavours, excellent value, what’s not to love!

The Three Eagles

Llangollen, Denbighshire
18/03/2020: We had dinner at Three Eagles just as situation was escalating with regards to Coronavirus and could not have been more impressed with the staff and service. They rang ahead to confirm our reservation, had update on their website with regard to hygiene procedures and were very responsible and appropriate with social distancing when we visited. We were so impressed with their professionalism at a time when they must be worrying about their business and staff and livelihood.

The White Horse Restaurant

Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd/Llangynhafal, Denbighshire, <20£
07/06/2020: Despite North Wales still being in lockdown the team at The White Horse have been able to provide my wife and I with 2 superb Sunday Roasts as a takeaway. The serving was very generous, perfectly cooked and tasted delicious. It’s obviously not the same as eating in the restaurant (my presentation doesn’t do the food justice) but it’s the next best thing. Keep up the excellent work.
14/03/2020: Another excellent couple of evenings here as we returned home for a short trip. The pate & black pudding starters are excellent. The liver was very good for a main & the steak baguettes were as good as ever. The lamb pie on the Friday Night menu was really excellent & I hope it makes its way into the regulars menu

The Farmers Arms

Tremeirchion, Denbighshire
09/03/2020: Without doubt, this is our favourite place to dine locally.
02/02/2020: We recently held my dad's wake at The Farmer's Arms and the amount of fantastic comments we received was amazing. They made everyone feel comfortable and relaxed in the traditional setting with beams and a log fire! It was a perfect send off for dad - thank you so much! Friends are still talking about the Bailey's cheesecake.

Riverbanc Cafe

Llangollen, Denbighshire
12/03/2020: I went with friends for breakfast as I had heard it was good. Very relaxing place to meet - the staff are very friendly & efficient. The menu was good ! Couldn’t decide what to have but went for the full Welsh - served on a huge tasty piece of freshly baked seeded toasted bread, it was delicious. I asked for scrambled eggs rather than poached which was no problem. The crispy, herby potato croquet was really nice! I had a very tasty Praline Frappe, yummy, Both my friends enjoyed their vegetarian full cooked breakfast. Looking forward to visiting again - their food is a little different than your usual fare - homemade specials always nice. There is an outside eating area which overlooks the river Dee, where I enjoyed sitting with a friend last summer for delicious coffee. They do a range of tempting speciality teas & coffees. The homemade cakes look delicious - looking forward to trying their Coffee cake! Would definitely recommend Riverbanc as a very enjoyable experience (love the way their large ‘loo” is decorated & the quirky cafe overall!)
04/03/2020: Loved this cute little place. Went during a weekend visit to Llangollen after seeing a post on Instagram for their frappe of the month (it was praline which tasted of the praline shell favorites). Didn’t disappoint. Staff were lovely and friendly and good service. We also had a hot chocolate which was delicious. We were going to return the next morning but we had a lot of luggage and it was very busy so decided not too100% recommend. Will return soon

Fouzi's Cafe Bar Pizzeria

Llangollen, Denbighshire

08/03/2020: We came here on a Saturday evening as we were on a hen do and the food was amazing. All staff were very friendly and welcoming 😊 will definitely be returning.

Barratt's of Tyn Rhyl

Rhyl South West, Denbighshire, 30-45£
26/01/2020: Went today for the first time for Sunday lunch. What a fantastic house tucked out of the way in Rhyl. We had prawn cocktail and soup to start with. Then welsh lamb and free range pork. All absolutely delicious, well cooked and plentiful. We couldn’t finish with our desserts so they kindly gave us a ‘doggy bag’ and we enjoyed the best Lemon tart I have ever tasted at home. The pastry was buttery and the lemon filling was superb. I may be using a lot of superlatives but this Sunday lunch was the best value you could ever wish to find.
09/01/2020: Mum and 12 others had a great time food was very good surroundings and christmas decorations were lovely a memorable old time world. The comfortable lounge a great area for present giving. The staff were welcoming and attentive Highly recommended

Leyland Arms

Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd/Gwyddelwern, Denbighshire
09/03/2020: We went for Saturday lunch at the Leyland Arms in part to celebrate my partner's birthday and also to take an advance look at the place as it's set to be the venue for a light lunch concluding an imminent event in the organization for which my partner works.Nestling in a valley in the countryside, Llanelidan is a pretty typical eighteenth-century style 'estate village' for the nearby Nant Clwyd stately home. The pub, however, is older still; it's a substantial, grade II Cadw-listed, former farmhouse, complete with numerous outbuildings, and the visible foundations of even more which were presumably demolished or just fell into decay. Wikipedia asserts that the building dates, in parts, back to 1354, though the predominant appearance' of the main building these days is Georgian. It looks like one of those places where an enterprising local farmer, some time in the 19th century, perhaps, took to brewing and tavern-keeping as a second income stream, and the tavern, over time, superceded the farming.During the week the Leyland only serves food in the evening, but they also do lunch at weekends. The menu's fairly limited, as you'd expect in a fairly remote rural pub, but it's varied and goes well beyond the usual 'pub grub' stuff; though if you fancy steak and ale pie - homemade! - with mash and pies, it's there on the menu and you can have it. I was tempted because I love that, but in the end I opted for the spinach risotto and didn't regret it. My other half went for roast mushrooms and leeks in a cheese sauce with pine nuts, and she loved it. Really generous portions nicely cooked, and we both enjoyed a tasty broccoli and stilton soup as a starter.Excellent quick service - made easier, perhaps, because apart from one other couple dining and a couple of elderly fellers watching football in the bar we had the place to ourselves. Considerate, too - my other half feels the cold and we've not felt much spring warmth hereabouts as yet, so our lady host not only seated us right next to the radiator in the rather splendid Georgian dining room, but brought an electric fan heater over to toast her from the other side! This is a lovely, friendly pub in an idyllic setting, and we'd highly recommend it. Good food reasonably priced - as a guide, two courses each, including our drinks, landed us with a bill of just slightly over £40. Possibly a bit hard to find, though, if you don't know the area - the Leyland Arms is on the B5429 at the east end of Llanelidan village as the road heads towards Rhyd y Meudwy, Llysfasi and the A525.
01/03/2020: We had a really lovely meals At Leyland arms, The owners are really friendly highly recommended the cajun chicken Will be returning🙂

Castle Cafe

Rhuddlan, Denbighshire
20/06/2020: Brilliant from start to finish. From the super easy process for takeaway, the friendly customer service, and finally the delicious food, this is easily one of the best cafés in North Wales.
26/03/2020: Had a meal from the Old Crown on 24th of March. Like all cafes they have closed their doors in line with current restrictions and are now providing a takeaway serviceWe have used the cafe in the past and always enjoyed our visits and the fare on offer. Our meal this week was chicken, bacon and feta with a superb mixed salad which the owner created to suit my wife's special dietary needs. We made it a special meal in with a bottle of bubbly, a date night as we had not left the house for nearly 2 weeks. We really enjoyed the food and the occasion. Our thanks to Emma the owner for being there in these challenging times and creating our dinner. If you want a nice meal phone and orginise collecting from the Old Crown. Just phone from outside when collecting and Emma will bring it out and leave it on the bench outside so no need for physical contact; pay on ordering. We have ordered a weekly meal for the next 12 weeks and will continue to use it beyond then. If you can't get there yourself because of isolating, send a taxi. There is a menu on line. Thanks again

Rhyl Rugby Club

Rhyl South East, Denbighshire
18/02/2020: Whether it’s breakfast or evening meal it is excellent value for money. Only quibble is its slow waiting to order and plates could be hotter..

The Druid Inn

Llanarmon-yn-Ial/Llandegla, Denbighshire
31/03/2020: I have been here for meals a few times recently. This time around i came here as a party of four. A warm welcome is always had and during the colder days there is always an open fire on the go which creates a lovely warm relaxed atmosphere which with the old style furniture i find very welcoming. The menu is a little on the limited side but what they do they do well. The burgers are top quality and as are the fish dishes. As i was driving alcohol was off my choice but i was pleased to find Heineken Zero at the bar which is served nice and cold. Customer service is friendly and not too over the top (no tick boxes here, just plain old good service). Plenty of parking is available and if you get a window seat in the Druids the views are beautiful. The locals are friendly too.
02/03/2020: We called in here after walking Moel Famau, safe to say we were cold and starving! One bonus on arrival was the large car park which seems to be missing with some older pubs. We soon warmed up with the roaring fire and warm drink. The menu was enough to give us choices and after seeing someone’s pie, we knew the portion sizes would be fab!Our food didn’t disappoint, it was soooo filling and tasty. My husband had the suet pudding which was packed with meat. It was just what we needed, “proper food”.We were offered dessert but simply couldn’t fit it in. I’d highly recommend.

Corn Mill

Llangollen, Denbighshire
21/03/2020: There was 9 of us. Booked online. Excellent food and service and Nothing left but empty plates. The fish is massive and roast beef cooked to perfection.
17/03/2020: What an amazing view from your table of the river waters flowing in so many different directions. It is a visual feast. The food is equally good quality. Myself and my travelling companion had a sumptuous roast beef dinner, with all the trimmings, accompanied by a nice glass of Shiraz. Very reasonably priced at under £35.If I happen to be in the area again I will certainly stop by for another meal!
