Penceunant Isaf Tea Rooms

Llanberis, Gwynedd
21/08/2017: After walking Snowdon, this is the perfect place to stop off for some welcome refreshments. We first visited Pen-y-Ceunant a few years ago and returned recently. Thankfully nothing had changed. This place has a quirky charm all of its own. Steffan and his staff just can't do enough for you. Muddy boots are not a problem, and not only are dogs welcome, but blankets were brought out for them so that they could lie down in comfort after their trek up the Llanberis path. The refreshments provided are first class, and the afternoon tea is highly recommended. Pen-y-Ceunant is such a contrast to the commercialism found at Snowdon summit. I recommend it highly, and very much look forward to our next visit.
21/08/2017: I have visited Pen-y-Ceunant many a times after The 3 Peak Challenge, and I couldn't think of a nicer place to end the challenge, Steffan literally pulls out all the stops to welcome you and make sure your visit is comfortable and memorable, I'd recommend this cozy place to anyone who is in the area.Ps thanks for the Welsh fruit cake and cookbook Steffan from Amy and The Challenge Central team xx

Caffi Gwynant

Porthmadog-Tremadog, Gwynedd, <20£
16/08/2017: We went to cafe gwynant for a hearty lunch and came out impressed! There was a variety of food avaliable and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We didn't have that much of a wait for our food and when it came it was delicious! It had wifi which was off great use to us! Overall a very good meal.
16/08/2017: Popped in for a bite to eat and was greeted by friendly helpful staff which delivered super fast service, You definitely get what you pay for . The atmosphere was so relaxing and there are beautiful views.

Breaktimes Cafe

Porthmadog West, Gwynedd
16/08/2017: Absolutely brilliant place. Lovely food . Brilliant prices. Staff lovely. Free tea and coffee too ups and also juices for kids. Brilliant value. And shocked with the layout. Didn't expect it to be so nice. Lovely well worth a visit. We will be back. Xxx thanks.
14/08/2017: Came here for breakfast with the family! What an amazing place for breakfast! Cooked to perfection, great portions, friendly staff and refillable tea and coffee! I will definitely be visiting again!

Deganwy, Conwy
20/08/2017: We ate here on a Saturday night as a party of four.Menu:Plenty of choice for all three courses, but limited to one choice for vegetarians.Service:Very good on the whole. Every constituent part of the whole dining experience was timed appropriately without having to wait too long for anything. All staff were friendly and efficient without being overbearing, and getting someone's attention as required was straightforward because of the size of the dining room.Food quality:All courses deemed enjoyable by all four of us. The escargots (starter) and the creme brulee (dessert) were very well received.Value for money:I've always felt that Paysanne gets it right in terms of value for money. About £100 for 2x3 courses and 2x2 courses, sans grog. To sum up; a homely and pleasant evening in a good, small restaurant. The addition of a good rose wine from Provence would make it even better.
20/08/2017: We'd been wanting to try this one out for a while and finally managed to do so last weekend - well worth a visit with super-attentive and friendly staff, a good range of dishes that taste great and with a gorgeous view across to Conwy Castle. We were served quickly, all food was delicious and the station car park across the road is great for parking.

On the Hill

Ruthin, Denbighshire
20/08/2017: Wonderful evening. Excellent quality food and service. Really good menu and everything was beautifully presented. Couldn't manage a pud-sadly. Great choice of wines at reasonable prices.Spotlessly clean. Nice outside area for relaxing inbetween courses. Gets booked up so book early.
20/08/2017: As always great food with original presentations and combinations. Nice and cosy ambience with good service. Would and have already recommended to friends. (feedback note: Having the bottle of wine with sleeve plonked on the table without showing us the label and leaving us to open and pour it ourselves is not what we expected in this upmarket restaurant.)Overall a really good night out. Thanks

Salt Marsh Kitchen

Tywyn, Gwynedd
16/08/2017: Revisited Salt Marsh Kitchen again this week, we booked for 17.30 and the place was almost full. The food never disappoints, if it comes from the sea it`s likely to be on the menu. They serve an "early bird" menu 17.00 - 18.00, A specials board and the usual menu. They also serve Salt Marsh Lamb. Very good service from personable staff.Just Go, but remember to book first.
13/08/2017: Booked ahead as I was advised, for a Sunday evening dinner. Easy parking nearby, and made to feel welcome in the cosy dining room. 5 of us for dinner and all hungry! Lovely selection of starters to pick from, 2 the bruschetta, I had the Asian seafood soup; all beautifully presented and very tasty. Main course I had the Paella, others had the fish and chips, The Hake special of the day, the Thai seafood curry (which will be on my list for a hopeful next time visit) and the Lamb Ragu , which was the only meat/non fish main dish available (probably because a Sunday?) ..a reasonable (£20) bottle of red and some soft drinks to go with it. All of us cleared our plates and were very happy with our selections. Nice selection of reasonable priced desserts but I was the only one with any room left, and went for the Summer Pudding. This was also beautifully presented and went down very quickly! I was happy with the price too, definitely would go again.

Indiana Cuisine

Bryn-crug/Llanfihangel,Llangelynin, Gwynedd
19/08/2017: We hadn't booked but they kindly fit us in (two adults one child) we were told the table was needed at 8.30 (it was 7.10pm) we said no problem ..... We looked at the menu and had decided by 7.30...we waited until nearly 8 until we got asked if we wanted a drink...we ordered drinks and asked could we order food, which we did.... They do not serve chips which I found odd, anyway we ordered. Our drinks arrived, well two of them, I then got asked again if it was a large wine I had ordered, the waitress was scruffy and clearly did not want to be there! The table next to us got served after ten minutes of arriving.... We then got presented with the starters and still had no poppadoms, I Complained and the waitress apologised, the owner came over and apologised and said there would be no charge for the poppadoms which was appreciated.... I began my starter which was gorgeous, garlic mushrooms... My last mouthful was crunchy and I thought I had broken my tooth... I spat it out and it was clear GLASS!! I complained and the owner came over and picked up my white (not clear!) plate and turned it over, my garlic bread fell on the table and he picked it up with his bare handsand put it back on the plate! I was asked if I wanted another starter but I was quite traumatised and said no....I did witness a small child (around the age of my daughter 7 ish) in a apron come out of the restaurant also!!? The main turned up and it was lovely. The couple next to me got their 'to share ' starter and complained at the size of it! the owner brought them more to be fair.I went to pay and I had been charged for the starter with free GLASS! I got no further apology or explanation!
16/08/2017: Reviews can have a lot of hyperbole, and it is easy to dismiss over the top praise. But the meal in Indiana was honestly one of the best we can recall having -- of any type of cuisine -- for a very long time. And we eat out a lot, in a lot of places that have big reputations. The service was also incredibly friendly and helpful. When the server saw that I wanted a fish dish but wasn't sure what to go for, he volunteered that the chef would make something bespoke for me. And it was fantastic. But the rest of the meal was also great -- lovingly put together from scratch with real understanding of what flavours work together, how to mix textures, preparation, presentation -- all round great.I'm not sure how such a great restaurant ended up in Fairbourne, but I'm delighted to discover it!

Seiont, Gwynedd
22/08/2017: Great some sun at last. Lunch at scoops. Great pancakes and ice cream. I had sea buckthorn lovely. Peak and walnut with blue cheese crepes to begin. Very happy
21/08/2017: Great little cafe and family run business. The pancakes / crepes are to die for. Busy and a small wait for food, but it's all cooked fresh. Chai latte a must.

The Crown

Aberffraw,Rhosneigr, Isle of Anglesey, >100£
22/08/2017: We had a delicious meal in the crown after two nights of poor choices. The food was home cooked and delicious. We loved every bite and so pleased we found it on trip advisor! Our two year old loved it too and the service was excellent!! Highly recommended
21/08/2017: Lovely home cooked food, very welcoming and friendly staff and a good location especially if staying in local accommodation!

Poachers Restaurant

Criccieth, Gwynedd, 30-45£
21/08/2017: Stayed at Bron Rhiw and Poachers recommended by Clare and Sian. We were not disappointed. Fantastic food with a warm and friendly service. A definite repeat visit when next in the area.
19/08/2017: Just enjoyed a superb meal at PoachersJust hadStartersMinced Beef PancakeChicken Liver PateMainsTrio of LambTrio of PorkThe lamb was cooked perfectly and so was the pork. They had no apple sauce when asked but within minutes the chef prepared some sauté apples.Couldn't fault anything.Food & service impeccable

Dolgellau North, Gwynedd
20/08/2017: Called in for breakfast with family.Everything they served us was very taste and well presented.Service was friendly and efficient.Exceptional choice of teas, almost too much to choose ask them for a recommendation.Welsh breakfast is exceptionally good.Well sited in centre of town, and such a quaint well preserved inside making it a special place to enjoy your food.Would certainly eat there again, and suggest you start your day there too, or at least call in for a break, even if not of your fast.
17/08/2017: So a family day trip to Porthmadog, taking the scenic route home. All of us needing a cup of tea on a dull summer late afternoon. My little dog was also with us so we were initially drawn to the place by the dog friendly sign.... but......What a find!! Quirky, friendly, homely, historic, buzzy, relaxing, one of kind coffee shop with great staff and tempting food. Only a short visit this time (but a great mug of tea and delicious slice of cake nonetheless) but oh my, I'll be back!

The Coconut Kitchen

Abersoch,Llanengan, Gwynedd
21/08/2017: We booked months in advance for a table for 6 people as we have been unsuccessful for the past 3 attempts when we have visited Abersoch. The reviews were high so we went with great expectations but was a little disappointed. We had the mixed starters A and B which we enjoyed - the satay sauce was a bit thin and pork toast was very small. Main meals we ordered 2 x pork belly, one was a bit gristly. 1 x beef massaman curry which was delicious, the beef melted in your mouth and the sauce had good depth of flavour. 1 x chicken pad Thai which was too wet with limited noodles so didn't feel like an authentic pad Thai. The restaurant was a bit cold and we sat with our coats on at one stage. We requested to shut the windows but the front door was left wide open so it felt chilly. The staff were very friendly and service was good.
21/08/2017: We had a takeaway last year and the food was great. This year we managed to book a table. Food again was good but attitude of staff was really poor. BASIC behaviours like smiling, asking if everything was OK with food, checking if we wanted more drinks etc were completely absent. Also no one said good night when we all left even though staff were not busy. This is standard in all the restaurants we eat at. Even Nando's! Staff need some training on customer service. Come on management. We eat at lots of highly rated restaurants (in the South) and you have a lot to learn. But food was still very good, if not a little expensive.

Y Sgwar

Porthmadog-Tremadog, Gwynedd
20/08/2017: Use this place once while in the are , for a evening meal , the food was to a very high standard, the restaurant was to a very high standards and beautiful in side, staff couldn't do enough for us especially being strangers but we were treated as they knew us for a long time we both had Fillet Steak and all the trimmings to go with it and a nice bottle of Presseco with we will call again
18/08/2017: We turned-up when the restaurant was very busy. The staff fell-over themselves to prepare a spare table and allowed us to pick from the 'early-bird' menu despite us being slightly late. The food was great and reasonably priced.

Palas Caffi

Seiont, Gwynedd
20/08/2017: Love our family visits here. They make their own ice cream daily with an unusual flavour selection. The lemon meringue is just amazing. Always busy, very reasonably priced. Kids love it.
20/08/2017: I see some people have been disappointed with the choice. Okay it wasn't a massive selection but I thought it was good enough and really creamy.

Carlo's Restaurant

Craig-y-Don, Conwy
20/08/2017: We visited Carlos after reading some of the brill reviews on here and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is small but cosy and very busy which meant there was a lovely atmosphere. All of the staff were very friendly and attentive. We ordered mixed Italian meats and olives for our starter which was plenty to share and very good quality. For mains we ordered rack of lamb with colcanon and king prawns with garlic and lemon butter. The mains were delicious and extremely high quality and thoroughly enjoyed. When ordering my partner asked if he could swap his potatoes and veg for a salad and after checking with the chef we were told this was fine. However although he did not have veg or potatoes we were still charged for the salad which we thought was a little disappointing. Our only other little gripe was we were overcharged for the wine. However overall we cannot fault the food or the service and would defiantly return.
18/08/2017: Found this gem of an Italian restaurant a few years back - a small venue with about ten tables - the food is always freshly made - so good, that I wish it would be located in my home town of Manchester.Service with a smile - spotlessly clean and one is always made welcome.True, not cheap, but the quality - outstanding. Must return soonest.
