Penceunant Isaf Tea Rooms

Llanberis, Gwynedd
19/06/2018: What a welcome respite after a long and wet journey down from Snowdon on Sunday. A great welcome from Steffan and his great team followed up by steaming hot drinks and delicious tea cakes liberally supplied with butter, jam and buttermilk: what a welcome from clotted cream and much tastier in our view.
18/06/2018: If I had my way I would make a visit to this place compulsory for anyone considering running a business in the service industry; a really warm welcome that made us feel they had been awaiting our arrival. My wife who declined anything alcoholic was presented with home made lemonade - on the house - and despite the place being busy the landlord took time to come and chat to us and suggest other places we might enjoy in the area. If only they were local!

17/06/2018: Ten of us pitched up unannounced at 7.30pm as part of a nostalgia-fuelled extended-family excursion; unsurprisingly there wasn't space for us right away, but we only had to wait until 8pm, and we were able to have a drink in the bar beforehand. It was...

Scoops

Seiont, Gwynedd
17/06/2018: this was the best spot to relax after exploring the castle. light savory bites, or tasty scones with tea.
14/06/2018: OK, I'll admit it, we travel on our stomachs and compile a list of the best of several types of food. Caernarfon is an ice cream conniseur's delight, as there are many shops that make their own. I was raised in Wisconsin, USA, where we take our ice cream seriously. Yes, you can get a Ph.D in it [Ok, in dairy science]. This ice cream tied with our favorite in Thessolniki, Greece, topping that of Madison, WI's dairy science department [who now have something to learn!], and also beat out two great shops in Poland and one in Bergen, Norway. Bravo! As to the Dutch pancakes, our previous winner was a spot in Amsterdam. Scoops surpassed the Dutch! I am told that the owner is Dutch and brought the recipe. I may add she improved on it, as you can get both the ones with meats/veggies, or the sweet pancakes. And the sweet is what I tried and tried and...OK, so we came back for more. The toppings are generous, with loads of almonds or blueberries or whatever you wish. Their smoothies are magnificent, and I've had some of the best in California. In short, I'm glad to have experienced Scoops...and, oops, the staff were very kind and the pricing reasonable, too! I miss it....

Ainsworth's Traditional Fish & Chips

Seiont, Gwynedd
19/06/2018: Ainsworths is situated in the middle of Caernarfon and most things are cooked to order. This means you may have to wait a little. But it’s worth it!
12/06/2018: Whenever I’am visiting Caernarfon town I have to call at Ainsworth fish and chip shop. They are by far the best fish and chips I have ever had, the food is always freshly cooked to order and the shop is spotlessly clean. I have never experienced a bad meal. I can’t wait till my next visit.
