The Three Horseshoes Inn

Talybont-on-Usk, Powys, <20£
18/04/2019: Unassuming pub at the end of a normal residential street, but food punches well above normal! A group of nine, we pre-ordered so food arrived swiftly. Beautifully presented and great flavours. We could only get a table at 6pm and by 7pm the place was buzzing! Loved it!
15/04/2019: Lovely food , great drinks, wine really, and very reasonable prices . You must book as the place is exceptionally busy - we dined on a Saturday night . Staff attentive and very helpful .

The Old White Horse Inn

Tawe-Uchaf, Powys
19/04/2019: Booked to have lunch here after walking the four falls nearby and after reading the reviews, we weren't disappointed.
13/04/2019: This place has a nice atmosphere but unfortunately the food is terrible and for what you get massively overpriced. We ordered olives and sundries tomatos with bread and balsamic vinegar and olive oil. We had ONE sundries tomato and a pot full of olive oil and no balsamic. We had to ask for some and they gave us reduced balsamic vinegar. It was like they didn't know what they were doing. The burger was advertised as a homemade one and it was absolutely not homemade. It was a frozen premade burger. Won't be going here again for food. Really dissapointed.

Fabian's Kitchen

Llangunllo, Powys
13/04/2019: I had the steakanf chips and my son had the sea bass. We both enjoyed it very much. Thanks it was delicious.
08/04/2019: Had an excellent meal here with friends, all plates got cleared and the staff looked after us all very well.

Pen y Cae Inn

Tawe-Uchaf, Powys, <20£
17/04/2019: My sister and mother and I went to the Pen Y Cae Inn for lunch earlier this week. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, in lovely grounds.
17/04/2019: Nice food, lovely pub, lovely serving staff but too long waiting for food sat down at 7 didn’t have main meal until nearly half 8.

Cosy Corner Restaurant

Builth, Powys, <20£
30/03/2019: A friendly couple who took time out to engage with my young grandson,a warm informal atmosphere, custard was like ambrosia of the gods, cottage pie with meat so tender and tasty,my fish was light and crispy, chips were almost designer chips and even the salad forged from Gods good earth was divine,as us Geordie's say it was a canny dinna.
17/03/2019: The food is vegetarian friendly and extremely delicious! There are vegan options too. We've had lunch and dinner here both times service was wonderful, Hard working owners who really value your custom! Only warning is if you opt for the alcoholic milkshake, make sure you like booze! Can't wait to go back, so lucky to have you in the neighbourhood.

The Nags Head Inn

Berriew, Powys, 30-45£
19/04/2019: Booked a week in advance for 8pm, got taken to our table at 8.20 and was put in a tiny corner on a small round table which looked like it had just been squeezed in between two larger tables, couldn’t move, my husbands steak was so tough and chewy I ended up cutting mine in half to give him , nobody asked if food was ok as they usually do. Looked to the bar to see a member of staff pulling the seal off a carton of milk with his teeth , wasn’t a cheap night , bill was just under £60 , very disappointed and will not be returning
19/04/2019: Great food. Decor lovely. Service great. Good recommendations. Can not rate high enough. Staff were very helpful and accommodating.

Red Lion Inn

Old Radnor, Powys, 20-30£
10/04/2019: We stayed here, bed and breakfast. The room was comfortable, freshly decorated with new shower room. Breakfast was very good. Staff friendly.
29/03/2019: Friendly place, great food, will visit again next time I'm passing

The Triangle Inn

Rhayader, Powys
19/04/2019: We called in for lunch with our border collie. Food was delicious and the staff were attentive and polite and made a fuss of the dog. The Triangle was recommended by the owner of our holiday cottage and it was a good call, would certainly call in again.
07/04/2019: We love this little pub in Rhayader, we always have good food when we eat here.

The Old Barn Tea Room

Talybont-on-Usk, Powys
16/04/2019: Lovely cafe. Attentive staff & delicious sandwiches & soup. The cakes look tasty, but we didn’t have them as we only had lunch. Popular with walkers. Be aware that when we write this, it was cash only as there is no WiFi.
16/04/2019: Visited the Brecon this weekend supporting the Mountain Marathon and was desperate for a drink. Stumbled across this little gem of a tea room. Problem was we didn’t have cash and only had card to pay with. When we asked if they took card they said they didn’t but we could take their bank details and pay with mobile banking when we got a signal. Wow. What an amazing service to offer.

The Checkers

Montgomery, Powys
10/04/2019: We visited The Checkers for lunch at the recommendation of a shop-keeper in nearby Bishop's Castle and the food in this very popular restaurant was excellent. We were advised immediately on arrival with an apology that there might be a delay of 20-30 minutes because they were so busy (excellent management of expectations). The delay was actually a bit less, and the food well worth the wait. Service was relaxed, prompt and courteous and beer (from Three Tuns brewery in Bishop's Castle) and wine also very good. Note that the restaurant is not open of an evening.
28/03/2019: The weather was beautiful and we were able to sit outside. The soufflé and the fish cake were excellent but why such minuscule portions? The salad was a few leaves with the odd almond sliver. The soufflé was served with half a slice of white pap. Service was OK but lacked enthusiasm. Overall could only be described as very poor value for money and yet, what a pity because with a little extra effort, slightly larger portions and a menu which better reflects the seasons it could have been quite acceptable.

Latte-da Tearoom

Crickhowell,Llangattock, Powys, <20£
14/04/2019: Fast and friendly service despite being already busy; thank you. Visited for Brunch. Good choice of food, well presented and very flavoursome. Highly recommended. Will re-visit.
13/04/2019: Excellent food with friendly service. The poached eggs were perfect and also nice cake to finish. They also served soup, sandwiches and icecream.

The Shoe Makers Arms

Maescar/Llywel, Powys, <20£
16/04/2019: Great meal, superb value and excellent service.
07/04/2019: Was staying in a holiday cottage over the road, which I can’t find to leave a review but if I did it would be a 3, as got mugged for £40 for bringing dogs even though I’d ticked the box on for pet friendly. But this pub is awesome, I cannot fault it, the landlord/manager is the most friendliest host I’ve met, the food is awesome, I had the chilli con carne one night and the bumper burger the next and left completely full. Would most definitely without hesitation come back to the Shoemakers.

Sugar and Spice

Llandrindod East/Llandrindod West, Powys, <20£
10/04/2019: I had the great pleasure of tasting their amazing vegan cakes when I went to the Vegan Food Fayre in Llanidloes earlier this month. Imagine my delight when I found out that they have a cafe and bistro in Llandrindod Wells.
12/01/2019: Cannot fault sugar and spice at all in anyway, seven of us stopped in for lunch made very welcome right from walking through the door . Great choice for veggies

New Inn

Bwlch, Powys
17/04/2019: Had a birthday in the family so BOOKED (very important to book) a Sunday lunch at The New Inn at Bwlch, Brecon. Drinks before lunch were excellent, the New Inn is the Breconshire CAMRA pub of the year. The lunch never disappoints, it was excellent, well done team New Inn.
01/04/2019: Love it! great ambience, great drinks, staff, service. Food really nice and different, maybe trying too hard with the different flavours etc as its really nice home-cooked food that sells itself. Really impressed and cant believe I've been driving past so many years and never went in ... wow! Wont make that mistake again

The Bridge End Inn

Talgarth, Powys, <20£
19/04/2019: Another good meal out in this local pub. Good selection on the menu (including a good specials menu), so something for everyone. My son and I both went for something simple and were rewarded with a top notch burger. My other son went for a lasagne and he wolfed that down (always a good sign).
14/04/2019: Called in for a drink wearing a walking coat. The locals started talking about me in voices loud enough that I could hear. "Do you think he's going mountaineering?", one asked loudly. I took it in good spirit initially, but then he carried on "is he wearing crampons?" , then he asked whether I was wearing any of those trousers they wear "that don't go right down". All designed to make me feel uncomfortable. His mate tried staring me down, so I have him a cheery "Good evening" to which ( having spoken totally in Welsh to his mate) he responded to me in Welsh. He knew I was English having heard me order a round of drinks.
