New Inn

Bwlch, Powys
14/12/2018: A group of about eight went to the New Inn for their Christmas menu (See end of review), it’s also a CAMRA pub of the year for Brecon and South East Wales, and so the real ale was excellent.
28/11/2018: Food was simply perfect, great atmosphere, welcoming staff and a warm fire. Couldn't be any better If they tried.

The Checkers

Montgomery, Powys
17/11/2018: Went for a light lunch today. We have not enjoyed food as much as we did here for ages. Simple things we take for granted but just perfect in every way. Little wonder given the chefs worked in Bray in a 3 star kitchen for years. We drove a long way and it really was worth it. Kind and attentive staff.
12/10/2018: The welcome, the service and the staff are so friendly and efficient!!

Castle Green

As a vegetarian I was offered a vegetable curry and rice as a main. The carvery has an excellent selection of meats and vegetables. Gorgeous cauliflower cheese, mashed swede, broccoli and sprouts, along with many others. For desert I had the lemon meringue pie, Yummy.

Latte-da Tearoom

Crickhowell,Llangattock, Powys, <20£
16/12/2018: Stop here while on a whistle stop tour of the area, beautiful little place, the staff were very friendly, the coffee and cakes were great quality, and the ambience is spot on. Clean, inviting and a delight to have visited. Will definitely return on our next visit.
14/12/2018: We are fortunate to live in Crickhowell and as we’re always working we don’t often have time to visit our local coffee shops. Which is why we went to Latte da as a treat. We were greeted at the door by Lynn (who is the cafe owner). We couldn’t have had a warmer welcome. We ordered bacon sandwiches and coffee. The bacon is locally sourced from Cashells Butchers and it was delicious. Added to that the lovely surroundings, friendly atmosphere and great service it couldn’t have been better. Very reasonably priced too. We will treat ourselves more often.

Restaurant at Ynyshir Hall

Ceulanamaesmawr, Ceredigion, 60-100£
18/11/2018: We stayed one night at Ynyshir and ate in the restaurant. We opted for menu 2 which was the more meat based menu. In total it was 20 small courses focusing on British ingredients with some influence of Japanese flavours. Each course was delivered by the chefs themselves and suitably explained. The taste of all the dishes was exceptional. The service was suitably paced, and the atmosphere of the restaurant with its open kitchen made for added interest to the experience. The waiting staff were professional and efficient, and always on hand to ensure water glasses were topped up and any wine orders delivered in preparation for the up coming courses. Overall it was a great experience and the cooking style and restaurant layout is a little bit different from other restaurants we have been to.
03/11/2018: Not been to Ynyshir Hall since Joan and Rob Reen owned and ran the hotel, we were not sure what to expect. The interior is now ultra modern lots of greys, blacks and dim lighting, gone is the homely comfy bar lounge with open fire, eclectic art and photos of past customers and historical information. Replaced by what felt like an impersonal - waiting to eat room. It was good to experience eating here but a few things did disappoint, maybe the Michelin star raised my expectations too much.

Machynlleth, Powys, <20£
07/11/2018: One wet day, a glance in a window, and a sharp intake of breath. I was worried until she said, “Venetian brioche, I can see Venetian brioche”. Which is not what I expected to hear in a street in mid-Wales...
03/11/2018: Absolutely lovely little cafe/ restaurant Deli shop in the lovely Machynlleth town centre. Homemade vegetable soup, toasted cheese sandwiches and Welsh rabbit varieties certainly filled up us and 2 hungry boys! Very busy and certainly very popular proved how good this place is. We also took home take away cakes & 5 * to the. Vegetable strudel, it is truly delicious . I’ve heard the custard slices are very good but sold out so didn’t get to try them

29/06/2018: This little gem of a cafe is ideal to have a good bite to eat, not a four course meal but good wholesome food, that is served with care and a smile

La Belle Pizza

St. Mary, Powys
27/09/2018: Honestly speaking, Mark's pizza is absolutely gorgeous, if you're looking for a proper pizza place - this is the best one. Not only does the pizza look and taste incredible, Mark has such a positive energy and is passionate at what he does. I've never felt so comfortable waiting for food, he prepares your pizza confidently and directly infront of you - which is brilliant, service is fast, although I wouldn't have minded staying there and chatting for longer. HANDS DOWN - best pizza I've ever had. I can't stress enough what a lovely experience it was. Looking very forward to visiting again, I'm positive we will be regulars.
27/09/2018: Me and my partner live in llandovery about 20miles from brecon. We were on the search and came across this little gem on the Internet and decided to adventure down.(we both never been to a pizza bar before) so we were quite exited. And we're so right to be! Absolutely brilliant and kind service, lovely and brilliant story behind the business and a lovely happy chap making our delicious tandoori chicken pizza. Brilliant vibes and energy all round and was 1000percent worth the 40plus mile trip. Lovely to meet you we will see you again soon!

Tafarn Dwynant

Machynlleth, Powys
22/11/2018: We've walked past many times and never given it a second thought, but we had a recommendation from the lovely Italian lady working in Idris Stores to give it a try.
07/10/2018: It was pure chance that we found this place. Me and two colleagues had traveled about three hours to mid wales for providing ambulance cover for rally GB overnight and during the day for the dyfi forest stages. When we finally arrived we asked security if there was somewhere for food near by and they directed us to this little pub down the road. When we arrived at the pub it was almost 2200 so we figured our chances would be slim. We asked the barmaid if there was any chance of food and she told us that she didn’t think so but would check. Sadly after checking we were told that it wouldn’t be possible. However the chef then came over and saw us and he offered us a couple of items on the menu that were hot meals. While he wasn’t able to serve the full meals he managed to single handidly cook the most amazing meals that me and my colleagues had the luck of experiencing.
