Harbour Inn

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway
18/09/2019: We were staying on the nearby campsite and on recommendation, we booked in for the carvery. So pleased we did. The staff were all welcoming and friendly; the food was excellent and our dog was welcomed too. What more can you ask. We'll be back.
13/09/2019: What a great pub ! Dog friendly - great selection of beers, wines and spirits - great menu, with vegan, veggie and dairy free options - friendly locals - in short, just about everything you could ask for in a pub. The owners have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into what their customers might want and have delivered in style - many thanks for your hospitality and may you always be the great community pub that you are !

Great selection of books and book/history themed decor. The back room! Lots to explore and enjoy.... why would you leave.

Creebridge House Hotel

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway
11/09/2019: Arrived for an early dinner at 5.30pm so we could beat the evening rush. First time visit so was pleasantly surprised by the cosy bar and restaurant. We had a drink in the bar while looking at the menu and after ordering they said they would call us through to our table when the food was ready. The restaurant itself was very pleasant, not crowded at all with plenty of room around the tables. We had steak pie, rump of lamb and braised beef. The steak pie was really excellent, best I've had in a long time. The lamb and beef were also excellent, no problems there.
08/09/2019: Just home from the Creebridge Hotel where we have had a lovely meal and been thoroughly spoiled by the attentive staff, cannot recommend the hotel highly enough. Good value for money and as my 7 year old son says "it's delicious".

Black Horse Hotel

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway
08/09/2019: A nice welcome from the man who runs it, bedroom was very cozy, clean and has excellent coffee/tea. The mattress was a memory foam type, which is ok if you like that. Didn't try the food but looked great. Pub part is a very local type of joint.
16/07/2019: Having eaten twice at The Crown in Newton Stewart we decided to try the Black Horse - nothing wrong with The Crown we just wanted a change. We ate in the bar which is small but perfectly good. The food was excellent and we would recommend the Black Horse to anyone.

Riverbank Restaurant

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway
04/09/2019: Lovely wee escape from the rubbish weather. Bit of Mac n Cheese from the specials board proved a delicious comfort food along with the garlic bread and onion rings! Roulade for pudding - even though we really didn't need it!
03/09/2019: Very nicely presented and light eating place. Stopped for coffee and cake on two occasions when visiting Newton Stewart. Excellent coffee and freshly baked scones. Excellent service even though it was very busy on both occasions. Looks like it’s very popular with locals which is a good sign. Outside seating area for the bold.

Whithorn story visitor center

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway
09/08/2019: Afternoon tea with seriously nut-allergic daughter, imagine our joy when making the usual anxious enquiries about the chocolate cake to hear the blessed words, we are a totally nut-free kitchen! Not only that, but the clearly homemade cake was delicious. Very friendly service, completely unpretentious. Two cafe tables for dogs outside, with water bowl. Small museum presents history & archaeology in intelligent, accessible way, shop with v good book selection and local crafts including artisan beeswax candles and soap. Well worth a visit; don't miss display of priceless photos and oral history of 1955 visit by HM The Queen upstairs.
05/08/2019: We enjoyed nice lattes and cakes here. It has been a struggle to find good coffee shops and tea rooms in this area, but this one ticks the box!

The Glaisnock Cafe

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway, <20£
27/07/2019: We visited toward the end of the day and were greeted by cheery staff. Sat outside in the garden and had scones that tasted as fresh as they would have tastes at the start of the day. Well worth the stop nd open later than some of the others in the town.
21/06/2019: We are not vegetarians but this cafe is wonderful. Very friendly staff and lunches, especially the soups, are superb. Definitely the place for lunch when you want a break from the bookshops.

08/09/2019: We were on holiday staying at Newton Stewart and decided to go out for a drive around the area. After visiting Portpatrick and the Mull of Galloway we ended up at the Isle of Whithorn around lunchtime. We found this place which was dog friendly and fortunately did some amazing, wonderful food. Cafe Rendezvous

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway
08/08/2019: We decided to get a snack after having a walk around Wigtown and my nephew didn't want to try the first place we saw so we walked around the corner to Cafe Rendezvous and so pleased we did! Cakes looked wonderful and my sister had the carrot cake and I chose the coffee one. My young nephew had his chicken nuggets and chips as usual and my partner had a toastie. Despite being busy, we didn't have to wait long. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and prices are very reasonable. The cakes tasted as delicious as they looked, my sister said that the carrot cake was the best she had ever tried and you got a good sized slice of cake too! Unfortunately, we didn't manage to return to Wigtown but next time we are in the area we will pop in for cake! Both my nephew and my partner enjoyed their lunches too.
19/07/2019: We were in area for short break, and stopped by for lunch. Service was great friendly and helpful, food was very tasty and reasonably priced. Enjoyed very much, check out specials board. We had delicious Italian meatballs, and greek chicken, both tasty and authentic
