THE OLD SMITH

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
06/11/2019: Booked this for my mums birthday and despite being extremely busy all staff made sure this was a memorable experience for my mum. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was outstanding. We will definitely return next year.
01/11/2019: Popped in here for cake and drink after walking in area. Whilst not a large cake selection for vegan/dairy /gluten free, there were two full menus for vegan and gluten free covering breakfasts and lunches. Also various milk options. Staff were friendly and happy to help with our dietary needs. Very busy!

08/12/2019: A Busy place but Inviting and friendly with great customer service
14/11/2019: A delightful cafe with delicious food, cake and coffee! I love that you can take your dog into the front part - we don't have a dog, but we say there because of the super views. Lovely friendly and welcoming staff too! Great to combine with a visit to Sweetheart Abbey:D

Treats and Eats Cafe

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
07/09/2019: Great friendly service, Fantastic cream tea's. Scones were delicious, the coffee and walnut cake went down very well also. We visited on day 4 of our holiday and this tea room was by far the only place that was putting itself out and doing all it could to give great food and service.
25/08/2019: We were just out for a drive when we came across this tea room in Colvend. It is well situated has great parking & a convenience store next door. Offers soup, sandwiches, paninis, baguettes, salads & a variety of other snacks, all of which are very reasonably priced. There are 3 benches outside in the shade with dog water bowls should you have any pooches with you or should you just wish to sit outside & there are plenty of tables & chairs in the tearoom itself.

Brambles

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
20/02/2020: Really enjoyed a little stop off at this very pleasant little cafe. Jemma was friendly and took the time to chat to each of her customers in turn. The kids loved the chickens running around freely outside. Good selection of cakes so a good place to stop for visitors, cyclists and walkers alike looking for a tasty refuel. Definitely recommend and will be sure to visit again when we’re next in the area.
08/02/2020: A wonderful lunch served by really friendly helpful staff. Everything freshly cooked using the best of ingredients. Well worth the visit. Thanks Brambles you rock!!!

Luigi's

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
07/02/2020: Visited Luigi's for the first time last night with family, on their reccommendation, for a birthday meal. Only three of us, one child on holiday with school - so felt a bit strange.
27/12/2019: Very disappointed AGAIN service just medeoca bunches of young staff just hanging around the bar area not been attentive to customers needs. Prawn starter very disappointing served with limp salad and panzanelle hardly any prawns. Carbonara terrible like a plate of floating milk and not a bit of bacon in sight. Won't be back given it enough chances.

Granite cafe

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
13/02/2020: Can across this lovely place whilst in Dalbeattie - the food was excellent (no half portions) - the cost was very reasonable and staff friendly and helpful. The place filled up pretty quick at dinner time on a Wednesday, the tell tail sign of a great establishment is the fact that there was a steady stream of locals coming in for their take away lunch. Will definitely go here again
12/02/2020: Enjoyed a lovely meal good portions and food cooked to perfection and lovely staff.no complaints would go back

Mabie House Hotel- Bar & Restaurant

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
17/09/2019: Had originally booked this hotel for 2 nights but after sleep deprivation only stayed the one sleepless night.
26/08/2019: I had not been here for some years and was blown away by the improved setting-- always great place thanks to the forest walks and nature trails but now the gardens are pristine and the new permanent marquee extension is fabulous. My visit included a function in that space and I cannot think of a better experience anywhere in recent years. Superb food, excellent a well trained friendly staff, and a managememt that went that extra mile to deliver satisfaction-- I will be back soon!!

The Mariner Hotel

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
06/02/2020: absolutely fantastic stay here lovely and clean. staff very friendly and go out there way to help dog friendly place will definitely be back.Even seen an otter in the estry.
20/10/2019: Decided to go for a car run today, beautiful Autumn day for run along Solway Coast. Ended up at Kippford. Choice of two eateries, The Mariner and the Anchor. Very pleased we opted for the Mariner. Hubby had Galloway Beef, and I had macaroni. Both delicious. Cook clearly knows how to make a simple macaroni dish stand out, with clear hints of mustard and warmth of fresh pepper. The chap behind the bar, who also served us our meal, has worked there for 35 years he told us, but was showing no signs of getting fed up with the place - he clearly cares about it, and was highly informative about the local area. Food and friendly service much appreciated, we will stop here again in the future and hope the same chap is still there smiling and being helpful. Thanks

Kilnford Farm Shop

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
18/02/2020: We visited last week being so excited! This was our first trip to Scotland and haggis was on our shopping list. We bought a few items and left very happy with what we had bought. But upon tasting the items were left extremely disappointed. We bought some lamb, this was so tough we had to throw most of it away, a macaroni pie, which tasted of nothing, and a haggis pie, which also tasted of nothing.
12/02/2020: Finally got a wee return visit to Kilnford Farm Shop after being very impressed with what we purchased in the shops and what we had to eat last time. Thankfully the Restaurant was a bit quieter this time, probably down to the weather. What we had to eat was every bit as good as our last visit. We had lovely brown bread sandwiches with Coronation Chicken and lentil soup. At £6, it was excellent value for money and like the last time the sandwiches were brimming with chicken.
