13/09/2019: Lovely little cafe in seven stanes, good pot of strong tea and delicious cakes especially the malteser mars bar tray bake and it’s dog friendly 🐕😍
26/08/2019: Popped in en route to Kippford for lunch. Not disappointed! Super tasty Bacon and Brie paninis and the tastiest nachos. Staff are so friendly, welcoming and chatted happily to myself and my 2 children which I thought was lovely. Would highly recommend.

Treats and Eats Cafe

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
07/09/2019: Great friendly service, Fantastic cream tea's. Scones were delicious, the coffee and walnut cake went down very well also. We visited on day 4 of our holiday and this tea room was by far the only place that was putting itself out and doing all it could to give great food and service.
25/08/2019: We were just out for a drive when we came across this tea room in Colvend. It is well situated has great parking & a convenience store next door. Offers soup, sandwiches, paninis, baguettes, salads & a variety of other snacks, all of which are very reasonably priced. There are 3 benches outside in the shade with dog water bowls should you have any pooches with you or should you just wish to sit outside & there are plenty of tables & chairs in the tearoom itself.

Luigi's

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
31/08/2019: We have eaten at Luigis a few times and the food and service have always been great. But our most recent visit was simply outstanding we had grilled prawns to start then steak that simply melted in the mouth as good as any fine dining restaurant we’ve ever been to!!!
21/08/2019: I am a local person who regularly eats at this establishment . It's a hit or a miss . Sometimes I can order food from here and it's really good or it has been in the past . Recently however on two occasions I've had a bruschetta on half a piece of your big standard white bread ( not toasted ) just soggy tomato bread . I have even informed them about this before and tonight received the exact same thing . I know places have good days and bad days ,I work in catering myself . However the quality of the food you give to your customers should always be consistent and of the same quality you advertise .

Loch Arthur Creamery and Cafe

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
16/09/2019: Visited here for the first time and it did not disappoint. The smoked salmon, cream cheese on sour dough open sandwich was lovely. You could tell everything is homemade and fresh and I could pick out all the flavours, even the butter. The coleslaw was really nice without being full of mayonnaise. Reasonably priced. The shop was full of interesting food and the homemade tzatziki is really tasty.
09/09/2019: We went here as my husband had been here before and said it was great.Incidentally it was our wedding anniversary.Firstly the positives-the staff were friendly and the tables were clean. We were seated as soon as a table became available and they took our order-so far so good. The food was not good-we had chicken and sweetcorn soup which was basically water with no sign of any chicken and one kernel of sweetcorn.I then had a roast beef sandwich which was very fatty. It also had gherkins on which was bizarre, especially as it had no mustard and none was offered.Trying to get the attention of a waitress to order dessert and coffee was very difficult. After 15 minutes we managed to flag one down and ordered. Then she totally forgot about us so 20 minutes later my husband asked about our order and she hadn't even put it through as they were busy!By this time i had had enough,I am in a half leg cast and could no longer bear to sit and wait so we just went without. At the checkout we voiced our complaints and they gave us a couple of complimentary biscuits as if that would make up for the fiasco. We won't be returning.

The tearoom itself is very clean and comfortable, all the staff were lovely and made you feel welcome. if you go into the tearoom and there is no one about do ring the bell on the counter its what its there for

Barend Bar and Restuarant

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
16/09/2019: This bar offers great food with friendly service all at a realistic price. The venue is informal (they allow dogs in the bar area). Highly recommended.
26/08/2019: Staying at Sandyhills Caravan Park Barend is handy for dining if you don't want to take the car. A short walk up the hill it is also dog friendly which is great. We didnt book but got a table no problem and it was always busy. Meals were always good.. yes the chips are frozen... but they were tasty enough. There is a separate restaurant area if you're looking for a slightly quieter area. All the staff were really attentive and friendly too which was great.

The Ark

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
13/09/2019: Went here twice only because the little tiny village has a fantastic beach right at the end. We have two small dogs but they don’t let dogs in. Their excuse is that they have a counter with food ie cakes, scones etc. If they speak to the EHO rather making up their own rules it would be better for their customer base. There is nothing to stop dogs going into cafes except short sighted owners who are slowly losing trade to the cafes/restaurants that do. On our first day it started to rain slightly so we ate outside in the rain!! Not sure what the owners thought about their customers eating out in the rain but hey ho, they have their reasons. Second visit was slightly better, we knew not to ask as we knew that we would get short shrift so sat outside. Because it was September, it was wasp season and there were many many wasps, I’ve never eaten cake quicker in my life.
27/08/2019: We visited here for lunch with 4 fussy eating grandkids a vegan and a vegetarian! We all chose a different thing off the menu and came out happily fed. The views are lovely so just a generally nice place to have lunch.

The King's Arms Hotel

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
21/08/2019: Had evening meal food was fantactic and well priced as was the beer ! Service excellent even though they were busy. very enjoyable experience cant wait to go back.
02/08/2019: Had a lovely party for my engagement, the staff had no clue about the playlist, or how to play music on the speaker system! They were very unhelpful and had overall negative impact on the party. I was very disappointed and hoped it would be much more lively! Only one member left if staff a young thin girl was at all interested in getting it sorted! You

Mabie House Hotel- Bar & Restaurant

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
17/09/2019: Had originally booked this hotel for 2 nights but after sleep deprivation only stayed the one sleepless night.
26/08/2019: I had not been here for some years and was blown away by the improved setting-- always great place thanks to the forest walks and nature trails but now the gardens are pristine and the new permanent marquee extension is fabulous. My visit included a function in that space and I cannot think of a better experience anywhere in recent years. Superb food, excellent a well trained friendly staff, and a managememt that went that extra mile to deliver satisfaction-- I will be back soon!!

The Mariner Hotel

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
26/08/2019: Was a bit hesitant to go after reading reviews but it’s absolutely fine. Obviously not cordon bleu but good honest pub food. Service friendly and although very busy food came quickly. Portion sizes massive and everything came with chips, including macaroni cheese!! Dog friendly.
25/08/2019: ...with expensive (and poor) drinks to boot. Not slow cooked as in to make it tender, slow cooked as in chucked in a slow cooker early in the day and then kept warm so it’s ready to be served, no better than 99% of people can make at home so not like eating out at all. Garden full of wasps (there must be something that attracts them there) so it’s hard to relax and the children’s area is in need of some TLC. Staff who are rude, I heard them being abrupt with the family before me and then they off with me too, customers eh! Such a shame as it’s in a great location but the food, drinks and staff let it down. Venture a hundred yards down the road and go to the Anchor, it’s much nicer.

Kilnford Farm Shop

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
13/08/2019: We are regular visitors to Kilnford and always enjoy our visits. The food never disappoints in the restaurant and the selection of high quality meats etc. in the shop is excellent. Lovely outdoor space and children's play area.
12/08/2019: The restaurant food is lovely and very reasonably priced. Nice addition of free water area. Can be a bit noisy if busy as it is a very large open area. Staff very friendly.

Granite cafe

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
11/09/2019: We were heading to an RSPB reserve and stopped off here for lunch and a little look around. We had jacket potatoes with cheese which were nice, especially the coleslaw, but the potatoes had been cooked in the microwave and not baked in the oven; disappointing. We waited quite a while for our meals, but the service was pleasant, as were the local people.
01/09/2019: First time visit to this establishment but certainly won’t be the last.Fantastic friendly staff and cleanliness excellent. The homemade scones were brilliant and one of best Latte coffee’s I’ve had for a while. Highly recommended to give it a try.

Sea Horse

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
30/08/2019: Don’t usually write reviews about takeaways, but we have been coming to Kippford annually for 10 years, there is a menu where we stay for this place, and also a comment written about the locals opinion of it, which up until tonight has caused us never to order. Well I can safely say with regret we have been missing out on a treat.
13/08/2019: Always a warm welcome at the Sea Horse, and the food is always excellent. When we're back in Dalbeattie, we'll be eating Chinese again. Monday night our meal was specially prepared for us, complete with a trial plate of something different for my not-so-adventurous husband. Lovely food, the family who run the restaurant are friendly, helpful and genuine. Highly recommended. Don't be fooled by the exterior of the restaurant - go in - prepare to be amazed. You won't be disappointed. I went in not knowing what I wanted to eat, I allowed the Chef to recommend something - and I'm glad I did - absolutely fabulous meal!
