The Salmon Inn

Galashiels and District, Scottish Borders
28/01/2019: Visited today for lunch. A small but very welcoming place with friendly staff. Meal was excellent - I had scampi and my partner had the steak and ale pie. More than ample portions and care taken in their presentation. In addition very clean toilet facilities. Would definitely recommend.
18/01/2019: Lovely meal with the family big portions fresh tasty food and great atmosphere as usual. All 5 of us enjoyed it all even my fussy 13 year old son ate 3 courses!

The Fisherman's Arms

Mid Berwickshire, Scottish Borders
23/10/2018: We called in here on the last day of our holiday - such a shame we hadn't found it earlier in our stay. My sister and myself had the tomato and basil soup which was delicious. My husband had the open toasted steak and mushroom sandwich - excellent! We were served by a lovely girl called Finlay - she couldn't have been more helpful. Well worth a visit.
23/10/2018: Visited the Fisherman's Arms for dinner as a group of six during a weekend trip with some friends. The evening as whole was, as the title suggests, was a mixture of ups and downs. As we entered the pub, it looked busy and exactly as you'd picture the village local. We were seated promptly and given menus. Our waitress asked us for our drinks order, however, when questioned on what ales and beers were on tap she didn't know and had to find out. That was ok, but unfortunately it was a sign of things to come. She returned without a wine list, as requested by other members of our group and informed us that there was only 3 beers on tap, which was a bit disappointing. Nonetheless, wine and house ales were ordered as well as our food. After roughly 10 minutes, our waitress returned to inform those of us who ordered the ale that it wasn't ready and we had to choose something else. This was really disappointing as an already small list of beers and ales had just gotten smaller, with the other two not being overly appealing. Anyway, with the drinks orders finally out of the way, we waited for our food. The wait wasn't too long and what came to the table looked really good. However, once again there was a problem, one of the side orders had been forgotten and we had to eventually ask for the waitress to bring it out. Once we began to eat a silence came over the table, which was an indication of the quality of food. I had ordered the fish and chips, which were delicious. The fish was beautifully battered and fell apart when you cut into it. The only down side were the mushy peas that accompanied the dish. It was more like a pea soup, as the peas were extremely runny and not at all mushy. Everyone else seemed more than satisfied with their food and the consensus all round was to give it the thumbs up. It's a shame to give this place 3/5 as it could have been much better and I suspect we turned up when they were having an off day, but the little things add up and unfortunately it didn't make for a great evening.

Cavens Arms

Nith, Dumfries & Galloway
11/02/2019: As always excellent food, fabulous service and great prices. They do an awesome steak. Booking is essential to avoid disappointment.
05/02/2019: Today I went with my mum and her former colleague for lunch to Cavens Arms located at 20 Buccleuch Street where I had scampi and chips washed down with diet coke which was absolutely delicious and which I would recommend. Other reasons why I like Cavens Arms are that the place is clean, the welcome is warm and the staff are friendly. I would recommend this place

The Cobbles - Freehouse & Dining

Kelso and District, Scottish Borders, >100£
01/02/2019: We had a birthday meal here with friends. The food was good but not spectacular. The service was excellent. However the menu was strange as it doesnt seem to know what it wants to do - to be a gastro pub or a restaurant. Some of our party had difficulty choosing meals especially matching a starter to a main.
29/01/2019: We came in for a quick lunch about two weeks ago before viewing a property for sale nearby. I am coeliac and have to rigorously avoid gluten - the staff were, as always, excellent in this regard. Knowledgeable and concerned, they made me feel like a valued customer rather than an annoyance. I had the butternut squash risotto and my mother had welsh rarebit - the food was excellent, as usual but we had to wait an inordinate amount of time for our order. So much so that we had to chase it up as we were worried we would miss our afternoon appointment.

29/01/2019: We found this place when we visited the area last year so visited again for lunch this week. Great food, great service and nice to find somewhere where our dog is welcome too. The food is delicious and the staff are really friendly. Highly recommended if you’re in the area :)
10/10/2018: Not really appealing to look at but service and food was great. Very friendly as expected in Scotland will call again if time permits.

Cocoa Black Chocolate Shop & Cafe

Tweeddale West, Scottish Borders
08/02/2019: Niche little place specialising in extremely chocolatey treats! Coffee and cake is what you’d go here (not a lunch/sandwich place) for and of course looking for bespoke chocolate presents then this is the place to come. If you are in Pebbles be sure to visit. If I compare price to likes of something patisserie valerie chains then, appears to be fairly priced for the cakes!
05/02/2019: Love this place, a real treat and a regular haunt for me. Staff very friendly and food delicious, would recommend

Best Pizza And Kebab House

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
31/12/2018: We tried the best Pizza and Kebab House twice during our stay in Moffat. Someone local recommended it “if we like cheesy pizza” and this place delivers on that promise. Between our group we tried the doner and funghi pizza, the ham/mushroom calzone, the cheesy chips, fish supper and the deep fried haggis. All were tasty and even cheesier than we could have hoped!
19/11/2018: Whilst staying overnight in Moffat I just fancied a pizza... I was hank and couldn’t wait for a restaurant (service etc)... Then I spotted this little gem on my iPad maps! I nipped in and ordered 2 x 12” Ham, Mushroom, garlic & extra cheeeeeezzzzz pizzas which were prepared and cooked in 5 mins!!... I almost troffed the lot and they were blumming lovely like!... One is enough for any man but I was being a propa pig and deffo over did it buying 2... These pizzas are propa lush with lots of topping, cooked perfectly!... I will stick Wots left in the microwave tomorrow and top up my garlic breath for my mates!!! Perfect 10/10!

Saffron

Tweeddale East, Scottish Borders, <20£
21/01/2019: My husband and I had a meal here yesterday. Service was great, the restaurant is very cramped, however, as it’s basically 14 covers at the front of a takeaway. Our starter was tasty - chicken pakora. The main course was lovely too, the chicken melted in your mouth, naan bread was perfect. But ... both my husband and i’s respective Madras and Vindaloo sauces were overly spiced in terms of flavour not heat and really spoilt the dish. We ate most of the meal because we were hungry and because it was expensive. I’m sure the chef was having a bad day, but I think it’s something that ought to be addressed.
21/01/2019: We live near and it's still such a treat. Genuine Indian food. Try the vegetarian platter to share to start. Generous portions and lovely service

31/12/2018: Lovely pre xmas meal with Mum and Dad. Great welcome as always and a fantastic Rib eye steak from the Xmas menu matched with a beautiful malbec. This is one of the best places to eat in the borders.

The Townhouse

Leaderdale and Melrose, Scottish Borders, >100£
18/01/2019: Had a lovely meal here while stopping at Gibson Park camp site. First class service and really enjoyed the whole evening, extensive menu we'd not tire off with a couple of interesting vegitarian options. Good well priced wine list. Also good for that special occasion.
03/01/2019: Visited here today for a lovely family lunch. Large selection on the menu and also a set lunch and dinner menu for 2/3 course price. I had the burger which was lovely a very big plate full and very tasty. All the food was well presented. There was also a kids menu available which had a good selection. The atmosphere was very welcoming and although not a large seating area was very comfortable with attentive staff. Would recommend and hope to visit again when in Melrose.

Masonic Arms

Dee, Dumfries & Galloway, <20£
09/02/2019: Enjoyed a great dinner at The Masonic this week. Food was excellent and service was great too. As it was a quiet weekday evening, ate in the bar area and the table was next to the toasty wood burner. I would much prefer this to sitting in a empty dining room as the ambience is much better. The tables are sited away from the bar so there is privacy too. Well done to all, we shall come again
03/02/2019: Great service and good food, staff very helpful and friendly. It is slightly off the beaten track but well worth a visit

Osso

Tweeddale West, Scottish Borders
02/02/2019: In Peebles and wanted a nice meal with the husband . We found this lovely restaurant. The food was very good and the service outstanding.. I may not be a restaurant critic but I felt this was a great place with a fair price for the high quality of food served. The 3 course special at £28 is very good value in fact I was unable to finish my dessert as the portion sizes are also decent unlike some places that we have eaten in. No loud music to spoil the evening. Best to book at the weekend.
31/01/2019: We were invited by friends to dine at Osso . First time for us but won’t be the last.
