Croft 36
Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
17/10/2020: We were surprised that this place had so little food at 2pm on a Wednesday in October. It’s testament to the popularity of this establishment with its honesty box.One party allowed in at a time with soap and water provided outside, together with sanitiser indoors. The food was really lovely! The vegetarian curry pasty (£3.50) was delicious. The fresh bread (£2) was soft and airy. The gluten free chocolate brownies (£3) very moreish and the Pabbay venison and dumpling (£6) was really tasty.Would certainly recommend!
13/10/2020: Went to Croft 36 after reading reviews and we were not disappointed
Fresh and tasty homemade loafs scones etc and the best curry veg pasty ever along with frangipane tarts Mmmm
A great selection of home cooked meals also available

Sam's Seafood Shack
Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
06/06/2023: Fantastic experience . Thoroughly recommended. Beautiful setting on the Golden Road. Looking forward to return visit with Mercedes 500SL together with our own portable table and chairs!
21/04/2022: Don’t know if this place is seasonal but I drove miles to try the place out on the recommendations on here and the van was there but it was all closed up! When I checked it seemed to indicate the hours were 12-6 and there was no mention of it only being open at certain times of the year……

Flavour
Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
05/05/2021: We wanted to celebrate our Mother’s birthday in style so asked Chris to come to our Airbnb and cook a meal. The trouble is he didn’t. He created an absolute masterpiece!Working with his fantastic assistant Willie, Chris produced a 7 course feast of the most amazing food.I could try and describe it all but all the best thing I can do on this review is urge you to visit Chris’s restaurant, Flavour, when it opens after lockdown. His use of local ingredients as well as wild produce is sensational and I would defy anyone not to love what he creates.Thank you so much Chris and good luck to you and Nicola with your impending new arrival!
05/05/2021: Chris and his team blew us away with this experience, from start to finish every course was beautiful - some great local produce cooked perfectly. Chris accommodated last minute changes and genuinely wanted us to have a great night. Could not recommend Chris enough - the best meal on Harris by far! Thank you Chris & Nicola for a great night!

Lorna's Larder
Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
16/02/2024: Fantastic takeaway in a lovely setting. Enjoyed our takeaway dinner sitting on a bench looking out over Tarbert Harbour in Harris.
We had the Taster Box (monkfish scampi, haddock, scallops, prawns and more) and the Harris Burger (which also had haggis on it)…everything was delicious!!!
04/11/2023: The best takeaway we've had ever. Super fresh haddock goujons, scallops, prawns, monkfish. Perfectly cooked. Lovely friendly people. I'm seriously thinking of using the ferry from Uig frequently just to visit this amazing takeaway. I'll be back !

Taste n' Sea
Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
04/11/2019: Food van but no ordinary food van. A wonderfully fresh fish experience. On a freezing cold drive we stopped here for the box of seafood special and titbits for the kids.
Outstanding quality, we really enjoyed it.
17/10/2019: We have driven passed here numerous times from Scarista to Stornoway and back but it’s never been the right time or the weather to stop until today. Just wish we had made time before as it was great! We both had the squat lobster scampi, French fries and salad. All were beautifully prepared and cooked while we waited. When we returned out empty containers I said we would definitely be back.

Ardbuidhe Cottage Restaurant
Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
13/11/2021: My son knows a good pizza and he was delighted with his cajun chicken pizza. The couple at the table beside us thought the spaghetti carbonara was delicious. All of the food was of a very high standard, the service was very friendly and helpful and the ambience was good too. A bonus was looking at Willie Fulton's wonderful paintings as we ate our food. We'll definitely be back again very soon.
12/11/2021: We visited Ardbuidhe Cottage Restaurant tonight for the first time, and the food and service were both amazing! The hand dived scallops were absolutely delicious, and the owners were so lovely and welcoming. Would highly recommend!

Berry Bliss - Real Fruit Ice Cream
Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
13/06/2023: Conveniently located on the car park opposite Leverburgh village hall, this van serves cones and tubs of very special ice cream most afternoons. A delightful young man took our order and money, and a very nice lady made up the ice creams. A little mental concentration is required; you have to decide 1) what size you require, 2) whether to have ice cream or frozen yoghurt as the base, and 3) what flavour to choose. I had the blackberry, which was fabulous.
Just one suggestion; could you site a waste bin near the van, for used paper cups?
31/05/2023: Amazing little place. Brilliant novel way of making ice cream that you have to see to appreciate fully!! Recommended 🤩

Cafe Kisimul
Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
30/10/2023: Closed! Drove here after reading good reviews and it was closed. Very disappointing, update the opening times information!
26/09/2023: We had absolutely first rate service by the whole team here!
We hadn't booked, they were busy, but they still managed to jiggle things around and accommodate us.
Delicious food, with the monkfish masala being the standout dish. The Scallop pakoras were very nice, and the Barra Lamb was very good too.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere, reasonable prices for the quality, and good drinks.
Would definitely return if we were nearby

North Harbour Bistro & Tearoom

30/10/2023: Stunning little fish restaurant Superb cooked food we had the monkfish it was to die for. Atmosphere was nice, staff were super friendly portion sizes were good what more can I say. 5* from us.
30/10/2023: What a fantastic place, the sea food is superb, service second to none. We ate here twice during our stay on Harris and both times it was fabulous. Don’t be fooled by the outside you will not find better food in a Michelin stared restaurant, the chef is a very talented cook
If you are on Harris this place is an absolute must.

Temple Cafe
Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
27/11/2020: Freshly made soup and bread to share on this chilly afternoon. Wonderful views of South Harris and the crashing waves of the Atlantic
20/10/2020: Wasn't sure before we went but they're doing winter opening now which means just coffees and hot drinks during the week with baked goods available at the weekend. So we missed out on the food which was a shame as it looks amazing :) But really good coffee, and some lovely deli bits available to buy too. Great location to sit and drink our coffees, with lots of friendly cats and dogs for company!

First Fruits Tearoom
Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
04/07/2019: I ate in the First Fruits Tea Room 5 years ago and really enjoyed it so was sad to see it had closed. However, there is a new cafe that has opened up in its place offering soup and a selection of different sandwiches, panini, toasties etc. They have only been open a few weeks so are still finding their feet but are off to a very promising start. The food we had was delicious, reasonably priced and the staff are all very friendly.
12/07/2018: Had a look with a view to eating there but appears permanently closed .
Which is a pity as it came recommended.

Hebrides Art
Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
04/10/2016: Spannend mit dem Mix aus Essen und Kunst. Kleines gutes Angebot. Einfach sich selber sein und entspannen. Die Atmosphäre geniessen. Mal was anderes.

Scarista House
Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
19/10/2023: Stayed here with my wife for three days. That meant three delicious breakfasts, and three delicious evening meals. First time we had visited Harris, after years of dreaming about it.
I’ll come right out with it: I’m a fan.
I loved staying here, and so did my wife.
The purpose of this review is to let you know what we loved about our stay.
If you’re looking for negatives, please peruse the reviews that highlight them.
In my opinion, anyone who leaves a one- or two-star review for this beautiful place and its magnificent staff needs their head examined. That’s just my opinion… but, hey! That’s what this platform was created to showcase.
The room was a delight, the bed was comfy, the linen was crisp, we read books and drifted off to sleep and woke up again and read some more. Then slept some more. Heaven.
The breakfasts were sublime but it’s dinner, of course, that most people make the pilgrimage here for.
I’ve seen some comments suggesting that the atmosphere in the house is stuffy. Trust me, nothing could be further from the truth.
If you feel uncomfortable about having to string a few words together in the pre-dinner company of a handful of complete strangers, maybe Scarista isn’t for you.
The library and the drawing room
are perfect spaces for aperitifs and serendipitous conversations. We had different nibbles every night, and we enjoyed making friends with the rotating cast of diners. Most people (almost always couples) seem to stay for a night or two, with others plumping for three or four night stays.
I think the remoteness of the location makes it more likely that if you’re a little bit “up yourself”, a one-night stay has the potential to disappoint. The charm of Scarista develops as you add a night or two to your adventure. The staff start to recognise you, and they clearly value and enjoy your continuing commitment to their restaurant, and to their island.
Of course for the owners, your stay at Scarista House is uniquely personal, because it’s also their home.
I felt like an old friend by the time I left. Hell, I felt like that when I first walked in.
I completely understand that not everyone will feel that way.
Those of you who drive white Range Rovers with personalised number plates, who fetishise black cod served on traditional rural Japanese earthenware platters, who have paid to have lip fillers or botox, or who don’t read books/listen to a wide range of music/appreciate art, architecture and culture, will detest it.
But then you’re never satisfied, are you? Thus, leaving a negative review of this place is part of a pattern for you. A pattern of never, ever being satisfied.
My wife and I were thoroughly satisfied by our stay at Scarista, and we cannot wait to return.
It’s a location, and an offering (set menu!) that forces you to make a choice.
Do you like it, or don’t you? It all depends on the sort of person you are. That’s what is so wonderful about it: Scarista gives you an unique opportunity to re-engage with who you are, and contemplate who it is that you want to become.
29/08/2023: We enjoyed a delicious Scottish breakfast as non residents. Homemade muesli, preserves and bread. We enjoyed perfectly cooked scrambled eggs and Scottish kipper breakfast. Good coffee Delicious!! And set up for walking.
