Rocpool Restaurant

Inverness Central, Highland
16/11/2020: Obviously enthusiastic front of house team and good atmosphere let down by chef. I had crab salad. Lovely flavours but just an expensive salad. Very little crab. Mean. Then venison lovely meat but sad assembly. Tasteless haggis base with unintelligently placed potato crisps that were soggy. But nice neeps. Ambitious cooking that failed through lack of thought.Good wine. Good cheese board.
16/11/2020: The way food should be served. Lovely food, friendly staff, gorgeous ambience. Perhaps my favourite restaurant in all of Scotland!

River House Restaurant

Inverness Central, Highland, 30-45£
18/12/2020: My husband and I had an excellent dinner at River House last night. My scallop and black pudding stater was utterly delicious. For mains my husband’s steak was cooked to perfection and the turbot special was fabulous. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced- thanks to the chef for his guidance - the grillo perfectly complemented both meat and fish. The atmosphere is intimate and warm- the service friendly. We will definitely be back.
13/12/2020: Booked the River House restaurant for dinner based on the strength of Tripadvisor reviews, and we weren’t disappointed. Both of us had the Mussels in an Islay Whisky sauce, and since my partner is Gluten Free they offered to swap the chips for sautéed potatoes, which were delicious. With a bottle of wine to wash it down and a couple of cheese boards (gluten free oatcakes were on hand) it was an excellent meal. Staff were fast efficient and friendly, food was fantastic and the awareness of, and ability to cater for, a gluten free diet was impressive. Can’t wait to return on our next trip to Inverness.

The Lodge

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
13/12/2020: Probably our last meal at Edinbane Lodge this year (there have been a few!). The meal was perfect as usual, I could have eaten the mussels all night long! Looking forward to visiting many times next year. Thanks to Calum and the team for providing such great food and service during what has undoubtedly been a difficult year!
09/12/2020: We were recommended Edinbane Lodge Restaurant by a friend and it did not disappoint. From the moment we arrived the staff treated us so well and their fantastic service made the whole experience so memorable. We went for the seven course tasting menu and wine pairings, both of which exceeded our expectations. The flavours in each course were exquisite and the presentation was first class. Chef Calum took the time to come and speak to us at the end of the meal which was also a nice touch. I would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone visiting Skye.

Sea Breezes

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
04/12/2020: I opted for the seafood platter for one - £31. The ingredients depended on what was available which is always a good sign in a seafood restaurant. It was warm, softly lit and welcoming with friendly staff. Covid distancing was in place along with hand sanitizer but this did not detract from the ambience. There was a very good beer menu so I opted for the Eagle which was a good choice being flavoursome but light. The platter arrived which was a feast of plump succulent mussels, beautifully fresh salmon and fresh tender scallops. Warm new potatoes accompanied the dish which I smothered in butter. I wish I had come here both the nights I was in Portree but was not surprised to find that it was solidly booked.
14/11/2020: We booked as my husband wanted the seafood platter, but they had run out of langustines. We booked for the next day and they went out of their way to ensure hubby got perfectly cooked langustines. The food was all round excellent, as was the service. Thank you so much for handling things so well.

Ben Nevis Inn

Fort William and Ardnamurchan, Highland
01/12/2020: This saved us from the awful weather as we walked round Ben Nevis. Its a lovely pub made out of an old barn but very well done up. Lovely lamb stew that was warming and filling. Friendly staff too. Shame couldnt try the local beer due to indoor restrictions.
01/11/2020: We stopped in hoping for lunch after a long walk with two teenage boys and we were not disappointed. Jamie welcomed us and we had a hearty lunch of burgers, veggie burgers and a steak sandwich, all of which were cooked to perfection and well presented. Would definitely recommend this place. Clean plates all round! All COVID secure as well. Thank you!

Cheese and Tomatin

Inverness Central, Highland
18/08/2020: Amazing artisan pizzas. Freshly baked in a traditional wood fired oven. Great service, great food, great range of local beers as well as your standard Italian ‘brews’ can’t really fault it.
16/08/2020: Best pizza in Inverness. Lovely authentic stone baked napoleon style pizza. Great range of options. Sourdough pizza base. Delicious local vegan ‘left coast’ cheese available as an alternative to dairy. Also great options for meat eaters including a Stornaway black pudding topped pizza.

The Kitchen Brasserie

Inverness Central, Highland
19/12/2020: Great food, great service and beautifully decorated. Me and my bf went there for a late dinner (only available booking was 8:30). We got our table 10 mins early. Place has lots of steps but I loved the layout. Our table was near the Christmas tree and window so it was delightful. Waiting staff were honestly soooooo lovely, that restaurant should honestly keep a hold of their staff as they were a massive plus point for the meal. Food was lovely as well. No complaints what do ever, throughly enjoyed it. I would 100 go back but I would recommend to anyone to absolutely reserve a table.
16/12/2020: Visited here with my girlfriend and had one of the best meals I've ever had. The pork was incredibly soft and my girlfriend said the fish was beautiful.

Rockpool Cafe

Keith and Cullen, Moray
24/12/2020: Very delightful festive afternoon tea. The staff are absolutely lovely, attentive and pleasant. The food was far more than we had expected - just fabulous - a plate of hot sandwiches, quiche and pies, with a vegetarian option, the most light and beautiful scones with jam and cream and a wonderful selection of little cakes and pastries. All in all we had a great time. There were crackers which supported a charity and the cafe was beautifully decorated. Highly recommended.
22/12/2020: Fabulous fish and chips - the very light beer batter was beautiful with crispy, chunky chips and tasty mushy peas. Hot tea was plentiful and the service was second to none. Despite our continued requests for additional bits and pieces the staff were calm and courteous, served with a smile and were very efficient. Highly recommended - it's also just a very nice place to be.

Lochcarron Bistro

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland, 20-30£
21/10/2020: We visited this restaurant last year, apologies for only getting round to write a review now. We had one of the best meals that I can remember! The food and service was excellent!! I’d highly recommend this to anyone!!
18/10/2020: Due to restricted Covid numbers we were lucky to get a table at The Bistro when we phoned up on the day. The only time they could squeeze us in was 5.30 - a bit early but OK. We were a little surprised when we arrived to find they did not seem ready for us - they were still laying tables and despite the fire being on it was still quite cold. This did make us feel a little awkward for a while. It was clearly explained that we would only have a 2 hour slot and Covid rules were adhered to.The service was friendly and whilst the choice of food was limited, it was all very different with unique twists. My husband had chicken stuffed with black pudding which he said was excellent. I had sea bream which tasted lovely but the portion was extremely small for £19!! We then shared a banana bread pudding which was wonderful. They served local beers and a selection of gins which added up to our bill being the most expensive of our whole trip on the North 500, but it was special. I hope they manage to survive more Covid restrictions.

Loch Bay Seafood Restaurant

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland, 60-100£
18/11/2020: We arrived at Loch Bay on a dark and extremely wet drive November evening, mid-pandemic restrictions. We had a perfect evening: The cooking, with fresh local ingredients, including scallops, lobster, hake; was superb; the service friendly and extremely professional. The restaurant itself was warm and welcoming. It could not have been better. We applaud the restaurant for staying open during such challenging times, and on being so welcoming and professional, despite the circumstances. Thank you, we will be back!
23/10/2020: An excellent lunch at the Lochbay, a wonderful restaurant in a beautiful setting. The Fruits de Mer meal on offer showcased the local fish and shellfish to perfection and no corners cut by chef Michael Smith, in spite of the current restrictions, to which staff and diners alike strictly adhered. Thanks also to Graeme, for keeping us fully informed, over the months, about all the changes. We were mightily impressed. We will certainly be back again next year, hopefully minus masks, to sample more of Michael’s Michelin starred meals.

The Geographer

Fort William and Ardnamurchan, Highland
18/11/2020: Visited on Saturday November 6th.Wonderful evening in this fabulous, quirky find in Fort William. Top notch customer service, amazing food - try the falafel and the calamari - perfect! The Gin was delicious and the surroundings were cosy and fun. The Geographer was packed to the gills with diners and that tells you something in deepest November. The only issue was my sons chicken burger bun was burned and the replacement was not done properly. However the owner apologised and was very charming and being in the same trade we know these things happen. If it hadn’t been for that it would have been 5 stars.Well done! We will be back!
17/11/2020: We only stayed in fort William one night and after looking at reviews on trip advisor we decided to dine here in the geographer and although it's a smaller menu during this troubled times.. We really enjoyed our food and the staff were lovely too... Just could not fault it at all.. Keep up the good work

Cafe Artysans

Inverness Central, Highland
19/12/2020: Been in a couple of times recently, both times the service was impeccable, the food well presented and very tasty. My first choice now for lunch in the city. Not too bad priced either.
11/11/2020: First visit a year ago - back in Inverness for a three day break. As our first visit, most impressive, the youngsters do themselves great credit. Cheery on arrival and taken to our lunchtime table. My wife had a most tasty tuna sandwich and salad. I had the most mouthwatering black pudding & chorizo with new potatoes hash, served in a small frying pan, with delicious salad and coleslaw. It was amazing. My wife then had a late & fruit scone & jam and I had a tasty cappuccino & delicious lemon meringue pie.Very reasonable price, and eaten in a nice atmosphere, 10'out of 10 to all concerned.

Garrison West

Fort William and Ardnamurchan, Highland
04/12/2020: Had planned to eat in the Cranog, which has temporarily relocated into the Garrison West, looked forward to our meal, however being assigned 90 mins from time off arrival our starter and meal had been served within about 20 minutes of ordering and the whole experience lasted about half an hour, felt as if it had been a rushed and expected a more leisurely dining experience for the prices charged
30/11/2020: Visited here while overnighting in Fort William for biking and we were absolutely not disappointed. We're massive seafood fans and I think this was the best meal I've ever had. We shared the langoustine and mussels starters between the two of us then had the scallops, pork belly and black pudding for mains. Cannot fault the meal at all, the seafood was all super fresh and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was lovely and all the staff were fantastic - a really good balance of attentive while being relaxed and happy to let us enjoy our wine (which was fantastic!).Overall a really top meal with incredible food and great service. Cannot recommend enough!
