Glen Rowan Cafe

Aird and Loch Ness, Highland, <20£
08/11/2018: We were in Glenmoriston early and were looking for a light snack while waiting for our B&B; to open. This cafe was just a short walk and well worth the effort. The service was friendly, fast, and efficient.. The cake was memorable and the tea was good. We wished that they were open for dinner, but were not.
06/11/2018: this tiny coffee house/ cafe had very good lunch. They were poorly prepared for the huge crowd that hit them all at once on the day I got there. The girl said they never had this many patrons all at once. But, the wait for lunch was fine for me as I was trying to pass a little time before my B and B room was available. Although, seats inside full due to rain, so sitting outside in rain. But still, I used my umbrella, and the food was very very good.

Skoon Art Cafe

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
24/10/2018: We visited for lunch on a horrible wet day. We managed to get the last table as the place was so busy, despite it being a bit off the beaten track. The food was lovely- delicious soup and the best carrot cake I’ve ever had! The paintings were all so beautiful I could have spent a fortune! We would definitely go back if visiting Harris again- it’s a shame the cafe is not going to run in 2019 but I’d still recommend a visit to the gallery.
01/10/2018: We had driven most of the golden road (My theory is they call the (extraodinarily skinny and curvy road “the Golden Road because no American has ever driven the whole length without wetting themselves!) we were famished and stopped at Skoon Art Cafe. The menu had only 8 items or so, but each looked tasty. We had the soup which was wonderful. As was looking at the local artist’s nice pipeces on the wall. We’d return. From (I’d hope) the shorter Golder Road route.

Cafe Eighty 2

Aird and Loch Ness, Highland
11/11/2018: Met name fijn voor een ontbijt, lunch of brunch. De gerechten zijn echt Schots, en waren voor ons een verrassing. De medewerkers zijn erg vriendelijk, en de atmosfeer is warm en vriendelijk.
08/11/2018: Popped in today for late lunch after visiting nearby Urquhart Castle, nice friendly staff. Hubby had the goats cheese, jam and bacon toastie which was huge and very tasty, I had a scone with jam and cream which was slightly warm and delicious, we both had coffees which were great. Dry reasonably priced and would highly recommend.

Croft 36

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
31/10/2018: An excellent array of freshly made meals, bread, cakes, soup, pasties and quiche, we popped in regularly on the last 2 visits this year and weren't disappointed, the food is replenished most of the day as this wee gem is always busy, try the homemade curries and stews, the frangipane tarts are fabby too, i don't think i've ever had something to eat here that i didn't like
22/10/2018: Worth going to Harris to get one of these curries veg pasties. An incredible place in a incredible place with incredible food

Loch Bay Seafood Restaurant

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland, 60-100£
08/11/2018: Have been going to Lochbay since the late 90’s. Michael Smith is the third owner since we started going. Second visit since he took it on and still fabulous. Very helpful and knowledgable staff, still a lovely (and warm) atmosphere and terrific food. Will be back as soon as we can (though likely to be 2019)
02/11/2018: Just perfect food, company, location, style and accommodation. A must for anyone in the area. Definitely not pretentious.

Scorrybreac Restaurant

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
05/11/2018: Very disappointing with Scorrybreac. Had a fantastic meal here last summer and had booked a trip to Skye again for my 30th birthday treat. I reserved a table online a while back as I was so keen to visit the restaurant again. Got a text this afternoon saying my table for this Sunday evening has been cancelled as the restaurant isn’t open, but it is from next weekend onwards. Very poor planning on the restaurant’s part - why bother taking online bookings? Gutted that a big birthday treat and trip from London is marred by the restaurant not being able to manage it’s diary properly, when I had such an amazing time there last summer.
03/11/2018: We came in from the US NYC area. Maybe we are spoiled but I expected more. They had a interesting 1st course But my entrée was salty. It put us back $180.00 for 2. We booked this restaurant over a month in advance and got an early seating. I heard it was amazing so I wanted to try it. Lots of locals were coming in & I saw the same tourists in a lot of the same restaurants with us.

The Strynd Tea Room

Kirkwall East, Orkney Islands
23/10/2018: Stopped in for tea and a sweet and to get in out of the rain. Staff were friendly and tea and sweet was good. The decor was cute, very feminine. Soup smelled great. I'd stop again.
19/10/2018: When we are in the British Isles we search out little tea rooms everywhere as I don't think there is anywhere else on earth that still has these like in the UK. This one is a little out of the way but very close to St. Magnus, just off the main drag enough to have mostly locals eating there and just a few tourists like us. Their scones are to die for, our daughter had a sandwich which she called delicious, tea perfect and no one one was rushing us. Service kind and efficient and it was great to see people coming and going, some lingering and some just dropping in for a cuppa and a cake or whatever. If you miss this one it is a Big Mistake!

Anderson's Restaurant

Badenoch and Strathspey, Highland, 20-30£
31/10/2018: We have visited at least once a year when we stay in Aviemore and have never been disappointed which is why a return visit is one of the first things we organise when we get to the area! The relaxed atmosphere, knowledgable waiting staff, open to view kitchen, quality of food and value for money are all first class, and consistently so! My wife is coeliac and has to be GF. The staff were able to talk through the menu options plus advise what could be changed to suit her. Trust me there are precious few establishments that can do this. A great visit once again, cannot wait until the next one!
31/10/2018: We visit the area a couple of times a year and always make a point of eating at Anderson’s. The food is always very good and the service is excellent. My daughter is vegan and, providing we advise them at time of booking, they will make an effort to provide a variety of vegan menu choices for her (as opposed to other restaurants who either don’t really know how to cater for a vegan diet or provide a basic salad) which is always a treat. Good value for money too. Always a pleasure to eat at Anderson’s.

Skye Pie Cafe

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
07/11/2018: Amazing pies!! Great service, and lovely hosts. There were four of us, plus a dog, and the hosts were happy to serve us out in the little garden.
08/10/2018: Huge thanks to our b&b; hosts for suggesting Skye Pie, I doubt we would have found it otherwise. We were advised not to get there too late because everything is made fresh on premise that morning and once it's gone it's gone!

Digby Chick

Steòrnabhagh a Deas, Eilean Siar
04/11/2018: I left Lewis over 6 years ago. One big miss from crossing The Minch was Digby Chick. Would it still be good? I was nervous. No need to be though, all positive boxes ticked and I left with a smile and a shout arm tingle in my belly. This place is so good it would cut it anywhere if n the UK, and beyond
23/10/2018: Wir waren zum Lunch in diesem Restaurant.

The Whitehouse

Fort William and Ardnamurchan, Highland, 60-100£
04/11/2018: From the front of the restaurant it looks like a greasy spoon but once inside it is lovely . Fresh fish and lovely food . Very attentive. Waitress happy and jolly . Enjoyed our meal immensely and glad we took the chance and went in
31/10/2018: I am not a fan of taster menus but the choices I made were all superb and the balance of flavors and tastes were perfect. The mussels to start with smoked fish served with seaweed in what was almost a cullen skink type broth was to die for. Next up salmon with a perfectly crisped and salty skin served with a scallop and smoked mussels was devine. loin of lamb followed again perfectly cooked and the fresh mint leaves just complimented it perfectly and I finished with a sweet of locally picked brambles made into various items. I loved every mouthful of this meal..... Nearly every ingredient sourced locally or grown in the garden. This is as good as it gets...
