Croft 36

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
11/08/2017: Tolles Angebot, feine Leckereien, bestes Brot auf der Insel! Wir haben während unseres Urlaubes mehrmals eingekauft und waren immer sehr zufrieden mit der Qualität der Speisen.
11/08/2017: Read the reviews and recommendations for Croft 36 and was so pleased we were able to pop in and pick up a couple of treats. We tried boeuf-bourguignon lies for our supper and also some fresh bread that was still warm. What a fabulous idea to produce such good quality, tasty food made from local ingredients and how wonderful to be trusted to pop the money in the box. The pies were delicious, thank you.

Cafe Eighty 2

Aird and Loch Ness, Highland
22/08/2017: My friend and I enjoyed a delicious vegan soup and amazing 3 layer chocolate raspberry cake! Loose leaf earl grey tea was particularly fragrant. Highly recommend for amazing lunch and home bakes!
21/08/2017: Great French Toast with Rhubard sparkling juice. I also loved their white chocolate cake. Their flower teas look stunning and next time I might try some of them. The cafe has a nice cosy, relaxed atmosphere and the vintage decorations look fantastic.

Skoon Art Cafe

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
17/08/2017: Our neighbours recommended this cafe as one of the best in the Western Isles and boy were they right. The food is great and the artwork fantastic. The cafe has a really good 'feel' to it and I would highly recommend the chocolate and dark ale cake.
14/08/2017: It's off the beaten track and worth searching for. The oil paintings of scenes around Harris capture the colours and moods of the Hebridean sea and weather perfectly. The food is great too - a small but good menu. We both had smoked salmon which was to die for!

Skye Pie Cafe

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
19/08/2017: We visited the Pie Cafe and arrived at 11.55am - just in time for it opening at 12pm - and we were seated in a lovely wee conservatory surrounded by balls of wool and old fashioned quirky furniture! We were amazed at how full this place got within the space of 5 minutes! Really! People just turned up out of nowhere and by 12.15pm they were turning people away - it is very small inside but if you get the chance to eat in - please do as the pies were fantastic - we had chicken & mushroom pie & a fishy delishy pie with delicious chunky potato wedges dusted in sea salt and home made tomato ketchup! mmmm. We liked it that much that we also took away one of their Raspberry & Frangipane tarts which was scoffed on the way back down the road to Oban later in the day! Bloody Delicious! The only thing I would say about this place is that they should really consider taking some of the arty rooms away and put in more tables for people as we felt there was a lot of wasted space - but it was a lovely place to visit nonetheless and we will be back at some stage I'm sure!
19/08/2017: We travelled to Isle of Skye from Nairn on a family vacation. Popped into Skye Pie and was instantly impressed! The artsy, crafty decor was lovely and surprising! We were expecting another old but beautiful building and the bright and fun art was a pleasant surprise. We ordered a few pies and shared. I have to say, there wasn't a bad pie. Literally. The dessert was phenomenal! If you are debating the trip to Skye, do it for this place alone! It was a 3.5 hour drive and rainy and hard to explore Skye, but this was worth it!!

North Harbour Bistro & Tearoom

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
20/08/2017: We had heard good reports of this place and booked ahead -which I think is essential. My son is vegetarian, and unfortunately there wasn't much choice for him, but seafood lovers have plenty of choice
17/08/2017: We visited the Bistro mid afternoon three adults and two children. Several Empty tables only two with reservation signs. We were told it was fully booked. When asked about other tables the girl said we don't always put signs up. Then two adults came in and sat down who clearly hadn't booked. Staff in the bistro were quite rude. I asked if we could book later and was told it was full. I do feel they should advertise that it is recommended to book in advance. We went to the local community centre for tea and cakes which was lovely. Very welcoming and friendly. Open tuesday-Thursday. We definitely won't be going back to the Bistro and feel it isn't welcome to families!

Carrbridge Kitchen

Badenoch and Strathspey, Highland
18/08/2017: Traveling with a Sydney coffee snob thru the Highlands is very challenging. This place did a great flat white on multiple occasions. Friendly service and a menu with a few interesting things to break up what can be a pretty depressing culinary landscape.
18/08/2017: The scenery is amazing in the Highlands but the restaurants and food in the region have been a real disappointment so far, restaurants closed at 2.30, frozen microwaved vegetables, laughable portions, and 'spring onion mash' which was ... just ...mash. So really delighted to sample the Carrbridge Kitchen this evening and enjoy a fabulous meal.A chef who knows how to cook venison, a great wine list, a divine sticky ginger pudding. The biggest disappointment - the restaurant is only open Friday and Saturday evening! Enjoy this gem.

First Fruits Tearoom

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
18/08/2017: My family of four spend quite a while here on a wet Harris day whilst waiting for our ferry and were not hurried in the least by the very friendly staff. My kids really enjoyed the smoothies and the young man serving produced a great skinny flat white even though it isn't even on their menu. We then ordered lunch which was very reasonably priced. Recommended.
17/08/2017: What a fabulous place! Greeted with a friendly welcome. Scottish breakfast was super tasty and poached eggs cooked to perfection.

Rocpool Restaurant

Inverness Central, Highland
21/08/2017: Schönes Lokal und freundliches Personal. Die Burger schmecken ausgezeichnet, ebenso die Fischgerichte.
21/08/2017: The food here is excellent. I had the halibut which was so full of flavour, and the staff were great also, highly recommended. My partner tried the spiced crab soup which was delicious, staff very friendly. When we reserved a table we were asked to confirm the night before if we were still coming on text / email so make sure you do too!

The Foveran Restaurant

Kirkwall West and Orphir, Orkney Islands, 30-45£
18/08/2017: We don't get to visit this restaurant often enough, so when we do its always a big treat. The food is consistently great, always with locally sourced produce like fish, cheese, and meats. This past trip I had the North Ronaldsay mutton with Orkney cheese gravy, and it was fantastic, as was the white chocolate and peanut butter tart (which I can't stop thinking about!) The dining room also has large windows all round that boast great views out to the Flow, and even on a dreich day its pretty spectacular.
18/08/2017: We reserved a table over two weeks in advance of our first visit to Orkney. The restaurant is situated about three miles out of Kirkwall in the St Ola area so some form of transport will be required. On arrival we were welcomed and seated in the lounge bar area in order to make our food and drink selections. After being shown to our table we had sufficient time to appreciate the amount of thought that has gone into the design and look of the restaurant. The decor was complemented by the restrained lighting. Unfortunately the weather was bad on our visit so we were unable to fully enjoy the potentially fabulous views through the large windows. The restaurant offers seafood and local produce with fine wines, beers and spirits. For starters we both had pan-seared scallops with guacamole and pomegranate - delicious. Lemon sole and lamb with local vegetables followed - excellent.Complete indulgence followed in the shape of a raspberry cranachan and a beremeal chocolate fondant. The bill for two people came to just over £100 which we consider good value given the very high standard of food. In all, we can heartily recommend a visit to this very special restaurant.

20/08/2017: Lovely treasure! Outstanding cuisine, courteous service, unbelievably delicious dessert, all in a tiny hard to find space. A real treasure.

Skerries Bistro

East Mainland, South Ronaldsay and Burray, Orkney Islands, 20-30£
20/08/2017: The seafood here is truly delicious. I recommend any of the fish dishes. The soup is very good too Great views as you eat.
19/08/2017: The location of this restaurant is almost unequalled. We were lucky enough to visit on a sunny day and could see across to mainland Scotland. Sitting outside and eating excellent food was perfect. Had a light lunch and coffee, portions small but well cooked.

The Pier Cafe

North, West and Central Sutherland, Highland
19/08/2017: This is a fabulous little cafe right by the waters edge. Great range of food, snacks and drinks as well as the most delicious cakes, all homemade. Excellent service from a young and attentive team. Well worth a visit
18/08/2017: We stopped here for a bite to eat on our way to Kinlochbervie. The Pier has a great menu for a "roadside" cafe. The cooking and baking were excellent and the waitresses were helpful and competent. Well done!

Plockton Shores Restaurant

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland, 30-45£
20/08/2017: Enjoyed a great meal in this restaurant with family. I was a bit nervous before arriving as we have a 4 year old and restaurant does not really publicise the fact that it has a children's menu or is good for family dining but it did and it was. Appears pricey in isolation but in the context of The Highlands provided much better value than other restaurants in area as food was excellent and wine also reasonable. Booking is essential!
19/08/2017: Il ristorante è molto carino e il cibo eccellente. Abbiamo cenato con cozze e capesante splendidamente cucinate. Ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo. A mio parere il miglior ristarante di Plockton!

Fig & Thistle

Inverness Central, Highland
20/08/2017: Having read the reviews, booked a table ahead of time and glad we did, as the restaurant was full for the whole night. Despite this, the service was excellent and there was no hint that they wanted the table. The monkfish was excellent and my husband had porkbelly which was melt in the mouth. Sauces and vegetables delicious. Cant say enough good things about the restaurant or the staff. Will definitely be back.
19/08/2017: Popped in to try this place as it was #1 on Trip Advisor! Of course, we didn't make a reservation and of course they were booked!Luckily, the owner was compassionate and told us to come back around 9pm. We did and she seated us promptly!Started off with the goat cheese & fig tart. Amazing! We both had the chicken and linguine and again, delicious! Followed up with the ginger and date sponge cake and merengue with coconut ice cream. First, the ginger sponge cake was fabulous. But the merengue, with the coconut ice cream? Can't say enough! So perfect!Highly recommend this place! The food was on point and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Told my family also visiting Scotland it's a must!

Single Track

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
20/08/2017: We LOVED this place and, had we been staying nearer, would have gone there every day. The salted dark hot chocolate with a teaspoon on cream was to die for as was the chilli hot chocolate. The cakes were delicious, the view was spectacular and the welcome was lovely. It's unusual to find a place that ticks all the boxes but this is it. If you are staying in Skye and love thoughtful, beautiful food and art you must go there.
14/08/2017: This is a really cute cafe, great unique location and building. What we had was delicious- cake and hot chocolate. But for food there was one 1 soup on offer. Think it would be great if they had a couple of soup choices or even one of 2 sandwiches.
