The Lodge

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
29/03/2020: The food and service here are exceptional. Head and shoulders above anywhere else on the island, in the Highlands and probably Scotland. No surprise that it's won so many awards in such a short space of time. Thoughtful, creative and innovative use of top class local ingredients. This is not style over substance it is very much substance served with a great deal of style.
18/03/2020: Excellent night from start to finish. Lovely building and decor, very friendly approachable staff, good choice of drinks with extra advice if needed. Food beautiful and the service provided spot on. I'm sure it won't be long until these guys get their first star!

Nannys Shop

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland, >100£
06/11/2019: Lovely little cafe with great views across the Loch. Great selection of local produce and freshly baked cakes, I would heartily recommend the Apple & Blackcurrant cake drizzled with cream. This cafe seems to be the hub of village life with plenty of locals calling in for coffee, cake and a blether.
17/10/2019: What a great cafe. What FANTASTIC hot smoked salmon chowder. We had the soup sandwich combo...wish I’d had a large bowl of the chowder. Nice friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed.

The Foveran Restaurant

Kirkwall West and Orphir, Orkney Islands, 30-45£
05/03/2020: Great place, stunning views, very friendly helpful staff, excellent location, short taxi ride from kirkwall
01/03/2020: We received a couple of vouchers for the Foveran and used them to celebrate both my birthday and my wife's birthday. Absolutely superb food again, could not fault any of the dishes we had. First class service again as well.

The Seafood Shack

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland
22/02/2020: Amazing, Stunning food. Get there early to be first in queue. Such good fresh produce. We stopped for a break in driving and to get some supplies. Found this little place and fully recommend it.
17/02/2020: Seafood at its best - cooked with love and imagination and eaten in the open air. Search it out and you won't be disapointed.

Loch Bay Seafood Restaurant

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland, 60-100£
08/04/2020: We were fortunate to be staying nearby as the restaurant is in a fairly remote (but beautiful) location. We were lucky to get a cancellation, after adding our names to the wait list a few days in advance. Would highly recommend booking well in advance if you plan to visit! We were pleased to find the restaurant is fairly informal with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and we felt thoroughly welcomed by the team when we arrived. The food was outstanding. We'd love to return the next time we visit Skye.
30/03/2020: Whilst it’s out on a limb - you’ll need a car to get there - it’s so worth the visit (but remember Scotland’s strict alcohol laws!)

The Cabin

Caol and Mallaig, Highland
26/10/2019: Lovely little place to eat whilst stopping in Mallaig on the Jacobite route. We had lentil broth and fish and chips. Absolutely brilliant.
22/10/2019: We ate at The Cabin based on reviews we read. We were very pleased with the food choices, the quality, the service and the price. We walked right by it because the entry is not real visible. But it is on the main street right down from The West Highland Hotel.

Uig Sands Restaurant

Sgir'Uige agus Ceann a Tuath nan Loch, Eilean Siar
24/02/2020: We were looking for somewhere for us to get a nice seafood dinner while also catering for our four kids between 3-9. Had read that it was child friendly on the reviews and we weren’t disappointed! They had a great little kids menu with pencils to draw on, our kids loved that and the idea that we were out for a “fancy” meal. The music was at a perfect level that we could talk normally but didn’t feel too quiet/formal!
17/01/2020: From the moment you walk in door the ambience and building scream quality. Thankfully the food matches this ambience. This is not about design over substance, the "package" works - I hope the owners are happy with what they have achieved because they should be proud. The views are stunning - unless it is pouring with rain! The large picture windows give uninterrupted over the sands below. We struggled to choose what to eat and had five starters between two of us and skipped the mains. We just wanted to try as much as possible. Maybe a tapas style menu would be an option? Memorable experience for all the right reasons.

Sutor Creek

Black Isle, Highland
29/02/2020: Had a great lunch here- lovely scenic spot with beautiful views. We both had a pizza which were delicious and huge! The service was really great - very friendly place. Wouldnt hesitate to go back and try something else from the menu!
16/02/2020: We stopped by Sutor Creek on the offchance that they could fit us in even though we hadn't booked. It was early evening and so we were lucky and got a table before the main service. There was only pizza on offer but that was what we had gone for anyway so it didn't matter. I had the Sutor and my OH had something with haggis or black pudding that I can't remember now. Mine was delicious and perfectly cooked and OH seemed happy with his too. I asked for hot chocolate with a non dairy milk and they were able to supply almond milk.

Ferry Inn Hotel

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
18/03/2020: I booked a table for dinner via email and communication was excellent. The restaurant is small so booking is definitely recommended.
31/12/2019: Gordon was a most gracious host for this fantastic and comfortable B&B.; To make the place even more fabulous, it has an awesome restaurant. We ate there every night of our stay - the food was out of this world, lamb, venison and local fish.

Croft 36

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
21/12/2019: We were lucky enough to be staying in self-catering accommodation opposite the Croft 36 hut so we’re able to visit daily. Tried most things on offer during our two week stay and found that there was always something we fancied or could eat - a lot of dietary needs were catered for. The fresh bread was great and reminded us of village bread that we used to have in Turkey. However........the frangipane tarts were immense!! I am getting hunger pangs just writing about them!!
19/10/2019: Visited your little shop this morning and bought a beautiful homemade loaf that was still hot from the oven. We drove back to Tarbert and our self-catering cottage and made ourselves some lovely tuna and cucumber sandwiches using your loaf. They were delicious. The best bread I’ve tasted for a very long time. Thank you. If we lived on Harris we would be buying a lot of your tasty bread!

Cafe Eighty 2

Aird and Loch Ness, Highland
24/04/2020: A hidden gem in the highlands. If you haven't been please go. I had the most amazing meal and being gluten free I was completely catered for. Vegan, dairy free, gluten free all catered for. Can't wait to go back
16/11/2019: Very welcoming and very clean , staff very very polite also . Great looking menu but only had cakes on this visit . I will certainly be back next time i am passing .

Ben Nevis Inn

Fort William and Ardnamurchan, Highland
16/03/2020: Found this little gem after a recommendation from the hostel. The setting was amazing and the geezer who served us was friendly and welcoming . I had the chicken & hagis Rumbledethumps which was probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had !! Amazing . 110% will be returning to the Inn during my summer climbing
15/03/2020: Warm and welcoming in a great setting, with hearty meals in huge portions.

Rocpool Restaurant

Inverness Central, Highland
10/03/2020: Another driech day in the Highlands, open the Rocpool door to warm ambience and welcoming staff. Great menu with choice of individual courses, or two course lunch for £18.95 which trust me for the quality of the food is exceptional. The sourdough bread, delicious. My friend had the sweet corn chowder soup which was to the brim with mussels, prawns & delicately flavoured. The rib eye steak which followed was melt in the mouth. My own choice from the set menu was first class. This is a wee gem of a place. What really made my visit was not just the exceptional food, but the friendliness of the staff. Thank you.
07/03/2020: This restaurant is 100%. The food is delicious, the service is excellent and the ambiance is warm and cosy. Thank you for a lovely evening.

River House Restaurant

Inverness Central, Highland, 30-45£
07/04/2020: Went to Alfie's for my birthday on 18 March and by 21 March, restaurants were all closing because of the coronavirus. Nevertheless, my wife and I had a great meal (as usual). Alfie's cullin skink is just perfect - creamy, but not too creamy and because last time I had the fish stew as a starter, this time I just HAD to have for my main course. Fantastic. My wife had the trout and was equally pleased. I really do feel for people who are in the hospitality industry and only hope that they can all weather the covid-19 storm.
14/03/2020: Para ser sincero, este restaurante es definitivamente superior a la media, pero no lo clasificaría en la categoría "muy bueno", lo clasificaría como bueno.

The Shore Restaurant

Kirkwall West and Orphir, Orkney Islands
15/03/2020: March 12th, a bitterly cold evening and the warmth of the reception and the elegant dining room instantly warmed us up. Quickly served drinks and menus to browse in the cosy, friendly ambience helped us relax. The menu is creative and inviting. We were dining late and had a selection of starters and the lamb dish. The smoked haddock risotto was exceptional and the slow cooked lamb was delicious too. We couldn't resist the desert menu and found the baked cheesecake and pecan pie to be a perfect end to the dinner.
14/03/2020: We had dinner in the bar area today rather than the restaurant. We only had mains and a drink. I had lamb which was tender, well cooked and very tasty. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her haggis dish. The staff member who seated us was exceptionally helpful. Serving staff were also excellent. Great eating experience. The only minor complaint was some other customers chatting excessively loudly. Eating in the restaurant area would have suited us better however it was otherwise excellent.
