The Smugglers Table

Killyleagh, Down
16/12/2018: Visited as a party of 7. Each meal was well presented and tasted even better. The service was excellent. Really good afternoon and great value. Will return.
20/11/2018: Simple decor, decent service, range of food to suit most tastes, beautifully cooked. Only comment would be that no one asked if we wanted more drinks, but that saved us some money! Nice touch - when head barman noticed we had ordered 3 different gins, he came thru to the restaurant with a hot gin for us to try.

The Poacher's Pocket

Killinchy, Ards
16/12/2018: Really good quality food served by busy hard working staff. We visited on a Saturday evening without booking and although the place was busy we were quickly found a table. The food was delicious and well presented. The price was a little on the steep side but the food was worth it. A lovely atmosphere and well worth a visit.
16/12/2018: I have been here a few times and it's always a real treat. The food is excellent. Good variety of choices which are always cooked well and superbly presented. Atmosphere is great. It is always always busy but it is well laid out so doesn't feel cramped. Well worth a visit but would consider booking if you do. You won't be disappointed.

Salthouse Restaurant

Portaferry, Ards
29/10/2018: Ate here on a Saturday evening with our 3 teens. Food was lovely, we had mussels, seafood pie, sea bass and “beef and bird”. All good. Desserts were great as was my Irish coffee. Staff were really friendly and there’s a great view of the lough from the upstairs restaurant.
26/10/2018: Strongly recommend the seafood chowder! Amazing combination & texture! Well done chef! <3 Staff was also great & very polite!

Harbour, North Down
12/12/2018: Landed on the team at Donegan's with a family group of 12, and I cannot fault the staff for how attentive to us they were. Food was great as expected, as Chef Paul and his team know how to deliver.
10/12/2018: Great lunch deal for 2 courses, food was excellent, lots of choice and service was quick and friendly.

Saltwater Brig

Kircubbin, Ards, 20-30£
19/11/2018: My husband and I arrived yesterday at 4pm. We hadn't booked but were given a table very quickly. We have been here many times and enjoyed our meals but yesterday we asked for turkey and ham with gravy seperate. When the meal arrived the plate was covered with gravy. We said to waitress and we were offered more gravy-not what we wanted. When the waitress came to take our plates away she saw all the ham still on the plate and wanted to know did we want to take it home. I told her the reason we left the ham a was that it was burnt. She nodded and took the plates away. I appreciate it was busy and we have had good food in the past.
14/11/2018: Lovely food st good prices and wheelchair access too. Friendly staff! Seemed a popular place with the locals too and if you are staying at strangford Bay lodge, let the staff know and you get 20 percent discount!

Eight South

Carryduff East, Castlereagh, <20£
09/09/2018: We had a 60th birthday party here on Friday 7/9/18 everything was Fantastic
04/09/2018: Went here with my grandfather, mum and fiancé. Two of is are vegans and fully catered for with a few options. We had vegan curry which was delicious! Chicken goujons and baked potatoes were the other two dishes purchased and fully enjoyed. Service was excellent. Would highly recommend.

Balloo House Bistro

Killinchy, Ards
25/11/2018: A friend and I went for Sunday lunch and it was fantastic. We had the smoked haddock and bacon chowder, delicious. We both had the lamb for main which was cooked perfectly. For dessert we shared a sticky toffee pudding and an apple and plum crumble. Both were great, special mention for the crumble topping!
20/11/2018: Went here for a family meal after recommendation. The home-baked breads were delicious and my husband and sister-in-law thoroughly enjoyed the mixed curry. Two of us ordered the pheasant with red cabbage - not enough sauce to offset a very dry dish and with the red cabbage was more like chutney (I like chutney, but not as a main vegetable). The service was good until it came to wrapping up and paying. Several more senior team members asked if we wanted X, Y or Z, which we didn't, and, having said no once, this felt unnecessary. My elderly father wanted to pay and he wanted to pay the waitress who had done most of the serving to ensure she got the tip. He waited a long time and the manager was hovering ready to take the money straight from her hand. He was quite upset as he was left with the impression the manager had kept the tip and couldn't be persuaded otherwise. Whilst it is up to restaurants to decide how they share tips, in a restaurant of this ilk, I would hope the person paying should be allowed to decide who to hand the money to.

The Georgian House

Comber East, Ards
05/06/2018: I have been to the Georgian House on many occasions and found the staff to be very friendly. Some people say the service is slow but what do they want - mass produced food or freshly cooked food! We were always greeted and shown to a table as soon as we arrived - sometimes it was so busy that we had to wait for a little while but that was no problem. The Georgian House was unique as a customer could order as little or as much as they wanted eg a slice of toast with jam or a full breakfast - there are not too many eating houses cater for everyone.
14/04/2018: My partner and I have just had an awful meal. Firstly, there is no atmosphere in the restaurant at all. The young man who looked after us was fine, but the food was really not great. To start my boyfriend had pâté, which was ok. I had the risotto, again ok. My main course was the beef which was so dry I had to ask for three lots of gravy. They came in tiny ramekins. It had no flavour. The dauphinois had no flavour. We mentioned that it was not great but the waiter did not offer anything else or compensation. We live in Comber and know the restaurant we will never be back. Don’t have the beef unless you like meat that is really dry and has no flavour!

Curran's Bar

Ardglass, Down, <20£
23/09/2018: This is another of those out of the way places but it is well worth finding. i have driven past it for years but not find it not only a welcoming watering hole but a fine dining spot and a very good carvery, although my wife for the second time has gone for an Indian curry which is also out of this world......
17/09/2018: Used to quite good but really poor now. I took my wife and two friends from New York and came away feeling ripped off. I have to say my meal must have cost about £4.00 to prepare. I had monk fish which to me looked and tasted like four fish fingers in a sauce with a few bit of Parma ham on top.

Balloo House Restaurant

Killinchy, Ards
28/10/2018: We were gifted a meal out to Balloo House by some friends. Staff were very helpful and settle us next to an old stove. The main menu has a great selection of local produce, but I opted for some of the local seafood specials. Food was delicious and perfectly cooked. Wines and local beer selection is also very good. We look forward to another meal here in the near future.
14/10/2018: Second disappointing visit to this highly rated establishment. Slow service, very average food and not worth the cost

The Moat Inn Donaghadee

Donaghadee North, Ards
18/11/2018: We booked a table on sun 11 for 6 and must say the value for money the Sunday 3 course offers is worth it and more.
31/10/2018: 21st Birthday party this evening for dinner. This Restaurant is most definitely the best in Town for its great food ,comfortable seating in extremely well presented neat and tidy surroundings, Our party consisted of 13 persons ranging from 1 child, young adults and some older . The staff treated everyone professionally with exceptionally good manors with nothing being too much trouble, in catering for all our different requirements ranging from standard meals , vegetarian and gluten free. Each and every meal was perfect in every way and we all had a most pleasant evening, So, thank you , Moat Inn.

White Horse Inn

Saintfield, Down, >100£
25/11/2018: Visited The Flaming Crust last night with a group of 8 adults and 8 children. Excellent service, excellent pizza and a pavlova to die for. Well done to the team. My friends loved the homely surroundings.
21/11/2018: We visited with 2 kids. Menu excellent. Kids loved their meal. Great sized burger and food quality. Adult meals were excellent quality and delicious. Great atmosphere and lovely friendly staff. Will definitely be back.

O'Hares Newcastle

Donard, Down, >100£
06/11/2018: There is something very wrong with the Guinness served in this pub. Three times I've ventured in here for a casual pint, and on all three occasions have noticed that their Guinness looks and tastes decidedly suspect. If you hold it to the light it has the appearance of Guinness which has been diluted. When you taste it this confirms your first impressions based upon the appearance. I don't know what is going on with the Guinness in this pub, but if you go into any of the other bars/pubs in Newcastle you'll get a decent or average pint of Guinness. In O' Hares you'll get a pint of Guinness which looks and tastes weak and diluted. All in all, in my experience, not a good place in Newcastle to visit for Guinness. The cold and aloof attitude of some of the barmen also leaves a lot to be desired.
03/10/2018: Lovely surroundings; good food but drink is a little pricey. Staff are very organised and attentive.

Norma J's

Audley's Acre, Down
09/11/2018: Came in late and felt very rushed to finish the dinner. Constantly stared at,felt uncomfortable.....
16/09/2018: Went in for a starter before the cinema with our children. So glad we didnt get a full meal. Everything was just swimming in grease. Both hubby and I not feeling right this evening at all after it. The garlic mushrooms were just something I've never seen before. Definitely wont be going back.
