NOW MAEVES TEAROOM. went with friends after being recommended. Coffee nice but very small cups and expensive. I ordered toastie with no coleslaw as I don’t eat dressings. Still came with something resembling coleslaw which my husband ate so I was left with just a toastie. No side salad or crisps or anything. Absolute rip off. SO EXPENSIVE Although tasty it wouldn’t have cost more than 50p to make. Friends then ordered cake (choice was poor so we didn’t have anything) and they both said it wasn’t pleasant. One said it was the worst Bakewell cake he’d ever had!!! We won’t be back!!!

Popped in for a cup of tea and a snack. Too late for breakfast, which looked like it had some great options on the menu, so went with a filled sandwich. Beef and horseradish sauce was very good and came with fries. Well priced and the outside space was comfortable with a dog friendly policy. They also have Sunday Roasts available to those seeking more substantial meals on a Sunday, looked worthy of trying if you are hungry.

I’ve known and been to this dynamic and friendly cafe on and off over the last 10 years or so. Whenever I’m in town, I’ll always make a beeline for the Hamburger, always enjoy the great food and drink, and all the friendly and hardworking staff, a special mention particularly to Shirley, Rachael, Claire, Kelsie, Lilly for always providing service with a smile. Now back home, I feel sad to have said goodbye for another year, and only hope that we will keep in touch, and vice versa. The atmosphere, the food, drink, service etc., is exceptional and top class! If you love American food, e.g. beef burgers, breakfasts, ice creams, other meals, I’d fully recommend that anyone reading this should make this your first priority.

The food was nice but the portions were not generous for the price. The fish and chips had about 10 chips on the plate! The person serving us was quite grumpy and kept moaning to customers that "I'm on my own" - ok, but that's not our fault!! Tell your boss not every customer, like it's our fault! There wasn't much choice on the mend and there was no caribbean food.

Stopped in for a tea, coffee and scone for the first time this weekend as we happened to drive past. It was all lovely and reasonably priced. However it is disappointing that a venue in such a prime countryside location doesn’t at least allow dogs inside somewhere. I imagine their foot traffic would increase substantially if dog walkers could come in for a post/pre walk refreshment.

Great cakes, service average, but the coffees are poor. I have been a few times and each time the coffee is not great and i say that i wont have a coffee next time.. but each time i try hoping that a) they have a new range of beans, or b) the server would have changed and be better at making coffee. Flat white was too hot (milk burnt) and so the coffee tasted bitter. Other halfs Oat milk was poor... seemed like they used skimmed oat milk rather than barista oat milk which froffs up much better for lattes etc. Probably wont come back for drinks again.. shame..the nursery is great!

Had breakfast at Black Goo and despite arriving when they had just opened, they were only just able to give us a table as everyone else had booked. So prebook before you climb the 4 flights of stairs to reach this cafe. The bubble and squeak was interesting as it included carrots, cauliflower as well as cabbage. But it was an excellent breakfast and the servings are big. Saturday is definitely not a day to go there for a quiet cuppa as it is very popular with families.

We first visited about 10 years ago when our daughter moved from Scotland to this area. We went in and were immediately spotted by the host "Yes sir, what can I get you?" with a welcoming smile. I was unfamiliar with the local ales, and was invited to try a selection free of charge. "Are you eating" he enquired. "Then have a seat, I'll bring your drinks over and get your order". And so it has continued for about 10 years. A place to really enjoy. In 2 weeks this will end. I just hope that when we next return, the new owner can continue this service. In the meantime, thank you!
