The Boathouse Restaurant

Harbour, North Down
15/10/2020: What a place! Had dinner there this evening and it was an absolute joy. I urge everyone to try this place because it’s a truly amazing night out.
12/10/2020: Not much more I can say about this place that I haven’t already - absolute top class from start to finish. Outstanding food, flawless service, pristine setting. Went for the 5-course tasting menu, highlight was the sea bass and tarragon veloute, simply magnificent. These are obviously very difficult times but this restaurant somehow manages to make you forget about that for the duration of your meal. Probably the biggest compliment I can give it.

KooK eatery

Harbour, North Down
12/12/2020: Carrying a slight hangover I visited for the first time in need of a big breakfast. Outstanding food but more awesome was the welcome. Its like a big hug with food. This is now my go to place.
19/10/2020: Amazing. We stopped in just to get of the rain but were both thoroughly impressed with the quality of drinks & service. Our experience was only made better by the gentleman who seemed to be managing the floor, who was entertaining & charming. Next time I’m in Belfast, I’ll definitely stop by for a latte!

Bryansburn Inn

Princetown, North Down
25/09/2020: Last three visits I had liver, steak and beef cooked in ale. ALL three meats were tender, even my well done steak. Consistent food delivered in a premises that is large and well spaced. Also recommend the sweet chilli chicken. Still the best in Bangor.
05/09/2020: Beautiful lunch. So relaxed and kids had plenty of food. Big portions and delicious food 😋 Staff friendly and helpful.

Cultra Inn

Cultra, North Down
30/09/2020: Excellent lunch .Have gluten free menu which is great as my wife is coeliac .Staff were very friendly and efficient. All pluses but will not be returning due to the fact that none of the staff were wearing masks great pitty.
26/09/2020: Because I’m intolerant to gluten and dairy there wasn’t anything on the menu that suited me but our waitress (wish I got her name) was extremely helpful and went out’ve her way to make sure I got a meal that suited. It was delicious!! She arranged for someone to bring me hake From the Culloden hotel so the chef could cook it. Thank you Cultra for your incentive staff.

Coq & Bull

Clandeboye, North Down
20/12/2020: We came out of a month long lockdown, where restaurants had to close, about a week ago, but are going back into a six week closure in a couple of days time. During this all too brief period of grace we took the opportunity to enjoy another meal here. Anti covid measures could not be better, and the well trained and attentive staff ensure there is no slippage in standards. The food is superb and tasty as always and the atmosphere in the restaurant is comfortable. The ability to go out safely and enjoy a meal has been something we have missed in the past year, but we can look forward to better times in 2021.
04/10/2020: During lockdown we dreamed of having a Sunday lunch out at our favourite local restaurant. The menu is reduced from our last visit but is as delicious as ever. We both opted for a starter of monkfish fritters then a roast beef main. Simply gorgeous and it made up for all those weeks of isolation and dreaming! For us feeling safe inside is important at the moment and I could not fault the system in place.

Holywood Demesne, North Down, >100£
10/10/2020: We had missed Fontana. We wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary and chose to eat here once again. Really enjoyed our meal. We made our choices of scallops and veal. Both excellent.

Little Wing Pizzeria

Holywood Demesne, North Down
15/12/2020: Sometimes the restaurant main waiter or waitress can be overbearing. But we were greeted with a friendly well organised lady tonight. We had the two course special which is adequate.I choose the salad misti,a mix of leaves, onion, croutons and sun dried tomato with balsamic vinegar. Nice and light but satisfying. My friend had garlic cheesy bread.I had the fungi pizza(mushroom) and it was nice. Whilst my friend had guardino pizza(olives).A couple of drinks which we paid £1.50 each to make large. At £30.90 for two it was reasonable. And the large flaming pizza oven doubles as a heating fire leaving the place warm and cozy. Good service and staff tonite made it a nice visit.
23/09/2020: We had booked a table after a bad reception and turned away from Lisburn road branch. It paid is to drive here. The staff were fine.I started with minestrone soup. Filling, hot and tasty. My friend had garlic bread, which was really a mini garlic pizza. He enjoyed it.I ordered a fungi pizza and my friend a guardino pizza. Not a lot of mushroom on funghi but tasty. The guardino had olives, onion and artichoke and seemed fine.I asked for a coffee with cream.Little Wings have found a successful formula for affordable tasty pizzas and a few other menu items. We will gu back again soon. Atmosphere nice, friendly staff but temperature inside very warm.

Harbour, North Down
15/10/2020: Had lunch in donegans, food was amazing,Ivan and staff were so friendly and very helpful, will be back again
11/10/2020: NO DOGS. Probably the only bar in Northern Ireland that won’t allow dogs in the beer garden. In a time when their industry are supposedly struggling you’d think they would welcome honest local trade. Seems this is not the case. Went to the Esplanade Bar a few hundred meters away and had a fantastic time.

Papa Joe's New Orleans Restaurant

Harbour, North Down
28/11/2020: This was the first time we have ordered food to takeaway from Toms. We have visited the restaurant many times over the years and have never been disappointed. I ordered the turkey dinner and my husband had the beef enchilada and chips. We had Banoffee to finish. The food was amazing, packed carefully with all the trimmings plus it was piping hot. We will definitely be ordering again. Great service from Andrew. We hope to be visiting in person before Christmas . Keep up the good work guys and thank u for making our evening!
24/10/2020: I have been a regular at Tom’s for years when Covid hit restaurant food was a thing of the past then I heard Tom’s were doing click and collect. Yeh!! The choice of food is great, ordering is easy and needless to say the food is still excellent. Thank you Tom’s for giving us restaurant food when we need it.

Jenny Watts

Harbour, North Down
28/12/2020: Needed a break from Christmas shopping so dropped into Jenny Watts at lunchtime and luckily got one of the few unreserved tables.Drinks served quickly and as we already knew what we wanted ordered the Turkey&Ham with all the trimmings(changed the mash to chunky chips). The place is a bit dark and dated with old fashioned wall decoration but food is tasty and the service great.
30/09/2020: I visited Jenny Watts on the Sunday night for a couple of drinks and was told at the end of the night about the specials menu they do Monday to Wednesday. So I went back Monday, then again on Tuesday as it was amazing. Had the garlic mushrooms for starter with the beef burger with cheese and bacon and hand cut chips on the Monday. On Tuesday it was the mushrooms again followed but bang bang chicken with garlic cubed potatoes. Both fantastic meals both nights. The special menu is 2 courses for £10.95. Essentially a free starter. The staff worked well doing the table service and keeping the drinks flowing. Amazing tasting Guinness there and I got talked into trying the "Bush" and that too went down well. A special shout out of thanks to Nick the chef and Kyle from behind the bar. The other staff were amazing as well! I will be back!

The Guillemot

Harbour, North Down, <20£
03/10/2020: Lovely little place to stop for lunch, lovely selection of things to eat the sausage roll got a special mention from a couple in our party but we were all more than happy with the fare. Quick efficient service from the friendly staff
25/08/2020: I’ve never had a bad brunch here. Nice big portions, a great mix of unusual flavours, something for everyone on the menu! Would recommend a visit

The Ava Grill Restaurant

Harbour, North Down, >100£
10/10/2020: Lovely food, nice atmosphere , attentive but unobtrusive staff all in a coved safe environment. Special mention to whoever had chosen the background music playlist! Would highly recommend
23/09/2020: Travelling for work this is the best place we have visited in last few months Great food Attentive friendly staff An atmosphere Very respectful of social distancing Don’t hesitate to visit

The Dirty Duck

Holywood Demesne, North Down

Holywood Priory, North Down, 30-45£
19/12/2020: Second time at Coast and it won’t be the last. Welcoming and warm friendly staff, delicious food at reasonable prices. There was 4 of us and every plate was empty. Can’t recommend it highly enough!
11/12/2020: If ever a review was needed and especially in these most trying of times;Warm friendly welcome.Clean, spacious, sanitised surroundings.Excellent light bites/Christmas menu - Turkey and ham superb, pan fried hake exquisite!! Accompanying wine list well suited to every dish. Plus tempting cocktail list. All very well priced.Above all else - excellent friendly staff, displaying a personal keen interest making the diner feel special and welcomed, rather than the run of the mill - sit down, eat up, walk out attitude. Coast has always been a firm favourite for these reasons.Customers are treated as friends.Long may this continue with the present front of house crew and those that rattle the pots and pans at the stove top and salamanders.

The Salty Dog Hotel and Bistro

Harbour, North Down, 45-60£
26/08/2020: So ... usually I’m easily impressed when it comes eating out because generally the standard of food and drink in Northern Ireland is quite high, however this place is the exception. The menu was abysmal, followed by a staters that was over cooked tough and tasteless, followed by a burger and chips. Burger was overcooked with onion sauce that overpowered everything and made it taste really really not nice and came with a side of chips in a cup ! 15 quid they got for that I’m shocked. I struggled to rationalise paying for it with the discount so I most definitely won’t return and pay full price for food that is priced way above its station.
21/08/2020: We were a family party of 6 enjoying the ‘Eat out to help out’ initiative. Staff were friendly and provided good service but overall we were really disappointed. Having been to the Salty Dog on a number of occasions the quality and quantity of food was severely lacking. Firstly the menu selection was reduced. Secondly we all noted that portion sizes were smaller than normal. The Scampi was over cooked and had to be replaced, portion size was small (about 8 small shrimp along with a stalk of a lettuce and fast food fries) - over priced at £15. The bacon chop with egg, chips and veg was again overpriced at £18. The burgers and fish were fine but smaller portions than previously. A child’s portion of fries with 3 chicken strips was £8 and the extra portion of fries requested for another child was £4. Discount was applied to our bill but I felt the pricing for reduced quantity and quality was taking advantage of the scheme and not in the spirit of the government initiative. Unfortunately we will not be back.
