Katch 27

Kircubbin, Ards
05/09/2019: My wife and I called in for lunch. My wife had steak and mash with peppercorn sauce. The flavours were fresh and natural. I had the ham and leak pie with chilli mayo chips. I love pies and the pie was one of the best I have ever tasted. The onion rings were a wonder. The Pavlova was lovely. Service warm and attentive.
04/09/2019: We had heard a lot about this place and had read the reviews. Our expectations were therefore raised. The service was particularly slow with a large portion of the wine consumed before our orders were taken. The menu was indeed extensive and looked promising however the end product did not live up to expectations. Unfortunately rather average. We have eaten in a large number of fish restaurants around the world but this one is some way off the pace. Closer to home the Boat House on the island of Gigha and Cafe Fish in Tobermory are hugely better. Overall not worth the drive to Kircubbin.

The Boathouse Restaurant

Harbour, North Down
02/09/2019: We enjoyed a thoroughly delightful meal here celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary. We chose the 5 course wine paring menu with each course’s wine complementing the food perfectly. Inside the Boathouse is intimate bright and cosy. The staff are very welcoming and attentive and even presented us with a personalised menu to mark our celebration (and remind us of what we had eaten!) Thank you for such a special evening.
23/08/2019: Wonderful food & excellent service in a beautiful & intimate setting We ordered from the a la Carte menu and it didn’t disappoint- everything was fabulous. Service was brilliant

Vanilla Restaurant

Shimna, Down
01/09/2019: A first visit for us to this restaurant and we will definitely be back soon. I took my partner to celebrate his birthday with his mother. The dining room is very comfortable and stylish and is open plan to the kitchen area where the talented chef prepares a variety of imaginative tapas with something to suit everyone’s pallet. Every dish was flavoursome and beautifully presented. We washed our food down with a lovely bottle of Rioja followed by delicious cocktails. The service was excellent - efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. I’d have no hesitation in recommending and wish them continued success!! Salud!!
10/08/2019: Patricia at the Cherryhill Lodge recommended this spot for dinner. It was excellent! I sat at the bar and enjoyed chatting with the bartender and wait staff. The other patrons were friendly, too. Beautiful view of the beach if you sit by the window. Great drink selection and wonderful tapas.

The Lobster Pot

Strangford, Down, 30-45£
13/09/2019: We didn't make it here on our last visit but all agreed we must go this time as The Lobster Pot has become a favourite and we do our best to make it here. We've never been disappointed and it's always been worth the drive but unfortunately we either picked a bad day or a bad time. We went in mid week at 3pm for coffee & soup. I decided on the Seafood Chowder and after seeing the half lobster go into the restaurant we also ordered that, to share. Unfortunately the taste, in both the chowder and the lobster simply wasn't there and I genuinely did not know if the lobster should have been hot or cold. Both were very underseasoned, both lukewarm and the truffle chips were far from hot. Presentation was amazing but taste and temperature let the meal down badly. The puzzling thing was that the thermidor sauce with the lobster tasted, and looked, exactly the same as the liquid from the chowder. The staff were extremely pleasant and when they came over asking if everything was ok we did say it was all a bit lukewarm. They immediately offered to speak to chef and replace the chips but we'd already decided to head off so declined. For £40 our food should have been hot, not lukewarm, and yes we should have returned it but after a 30 minute wait we decided to not. Such a shame as we left disappointed that the quality wasn't as previous visits. Staff and setting are brilliant but not our food this time.
06/09/2019: Excellent service from Cathie. Made us feel very welcome. Food was delivered promptly as tasted fantastic.

Villa Vinci

Shimna, Down
11/09/2019: We visited Villa Vinci after reading good reviews, it was great. The service was good, the food arrived quickly. Fried brie, bruschetta, and lovely mussels for starters followed by lamb shank, salmon and a chicken dish. All superb, perfectly cooked and presented and absolutely delicious. One of the best meals I've had recently . They thoroughly deserve 5 stars.
09/09/2019: I have been here on a number of occasions and it has always been very good. This time there were 6 of us, 4 of whom had never been before. We were there at 6pm. We were seated the moment we arrived, given menus and asked whether we wanted anything to drink. Our meals arrived quickly. The staff were friendly and efficient. The restaurant was very busy with people arriving all the time but this didn't affect the service we received. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food, Hake, Sea Bass, Chicken and Spagetti Bolognese, some had creme brulee to follow. I really can't praise this restaurant highly enough. Our friends who hadn't been there before were all impressed.

Great jones Craft & Kitchen

Shimna, Down
09/09/2019: We had a delicious dinner at Great Jones! They were super busy but we were not at all rushed. We were able to fully enjoy our drinks, appetizers, dinners and dessert. We were seated across from the bar and it was a good show watching the bartenders in action. We highly recommend Great Jones - it is fantastic.
08/09/2019: We went to great jones for dinner on our last night of holiday it was delicious we ordered a antipasti for a starter it was interesting then I had the seafood lengine and it had a bit of heat to it which I was not expecting it was nice and quiet we had a lovely time

The Guillemot

Harbour, North Down, <20£
08/09/2019: Great place for breakfast. Always busy but that's because it's good. Good variety of choices and staff are friendly and helpful.
07/09/2019: I have been several times for breakfast and the place is always busy which is a good sign. The food offering is quite different to what is usually on offer in N. Ireland cafes and I mean this in a very positive way! The service is very friendly and efficient and the food is tasty and well presented. There is also a Guillemot deli/cafe next door which does take away food. If you’re in Bangor this is a great place for coffee, breakfast, lunch or a naughty sweet treat!

The Cuan

Strangford, Down, <20£
12/09/2019: We came over from Isle of Man on a grey day. We were hungry so came straight to the Cuan as we have been well-fed here previously. Right up to our expectations, if anything even better than before. Prompt, friendly service, our beautifully cooked meals arrived in good time. Even our normally reticent crew member commented her meal was delicious, praise indeed! The usual welcoming atmosphere is still there, if anything slightly improved as we were earlier than our normal time so the restaurant was still only filling up. It all set us up nicely for a stroll around the coast path overlooking Audley's Roads and Castle Ward.
08/09/2019: I booked a night as part of the game of thrones package as a surprise getaway for my husbands birthday, and I honestly can’t recommend the Cuan enough. On arrival, clearly unsure of the area, one of the staff offered to open up the back entrance to help us get our son’s pram in and to show us where to park our rental car. We spent an hour getting packed and ready and then eagerly arrived for our banquet. The theming and introduction from the knowledgeable staff was perfect-just enough without being over the top. They were super pleasant, accommodating of our 1 year old and eager to make my husband’s birthday special-even putting a candle in his pudding. The lentil pie was delicious and we were stuffed by the end. We stayed in the Cersei room, it was cosy and clean and exactly right for a family of three. Breakfast was a delight. The pancakes were unbelievable, my husband had scrambled eggs which he loved and our one year old had plenty of choice. From start to finish, the staff were a joy and we felt so welcomed . Would go back in a heart beat. Thank you for making our time there such an experience!

Maghera Inn

Murlough, Down, 30-45£
12/09/2019: Service good but our meals were not synchronised so my mum's chips were cold. Had a better meal in the past.
09/09/2019: A relaxed and very friendly atmosphere, food is excellent and service is attentive without being overdone.

Tale of Spice

Ballyhanwood, Castlereagh, <20£
13/09/2019: The staff, the food & the service is above & beyond! 5* service everytime. This is a must try place!
13/09/2019: Our regular Indian restaurant. Great food and great service, particularly one waiter Rep who is great craic. Definitely recommended.

Chef and Manager

Central, Ards
14/09/2019: Absolutely beautiful meal here for my husband's Birthday. Delicious food and excellent staff. Very friendly atmosphere. Will definitely visit again.
13/09/2019: Staff are very friendly and keen to ensure you have a good experience. Food was very good and service was excellent without being rushed. Very helpful in adjusting dishes to suit my dietary issues, the chef came out of the kitchen to advise me on the most suitable dishes. We had the ‘Early bird’ menu which was very good value and the food was beautifully presented on the plate. The Fish Ragout starter was very tasty and a substantial portion. Both main courses were also tasty and good sized portions, so much so my wife couldn’t manage her usual dessert. Just a couple of ‘observations’, if we’re having a 2 course meal my wife invariably has a main course and a dessert as a starter and main course is usually too much for her, unfortunately there is no choice on the Early bird menu, one has to have a starter and main course, so she didn’t have room left for her dessert, which was a pity. Call me ‘old fashioned’, not ‘with it’ or just picky, it’s just a thing with me, but I don’t like tattoos. One of the waitresses had very heavily tattooed arms which to me was a bit off putting, hence dropping a ‘star’ it was a pity as she was a very pleasant friendly young lady, I would respectfully suggest she wears a long sleeved shirt. It won’t stop me returning though, as we enjoyed the restaurant and food very much and we both look forward to visiting again in the not too distant future.

Moira, Lisburn, 30-45£
20/05/2019: This is so far the best restaurant around these parts of the world.
05/05/2019: Visited here as a party of four. We booked in advance, a must as the restaurant is always in demand. The place is very old-worldly with beamed ceilings and lots of small private alcoves. Service was first class. We chose from a Sunday menu, my choice bring tomato & basil soup, roast beef dinner followed by rice pudding with rhubarb and flaked almonds. The food was beautifully presented and delicious . This restaurant is Michelin listed and it’s well deserved. We looked at the midweek menu and it looked very good. The place has a large garden with lots of tables, ideal for a Summer evening. I highly recommend this lovely old establishment .
