Ownies Bar

Killycrot, Carrickfergus, <20£
13/03/2019: Great food awesome service class that there Was a lift to the upstairs as we had are grandmother who is Ninty six and this made getting upstairs a lot easier
08/03/2019: My uncle has always lived in Carrickfergus so knows the eateries there inside out and when staying with him, I wanted to treat him to lunch. Without hesitation he said Ownies. Ownies is an independent pub, cozy with open fires and lovely atmosphere. Mum had previously eaten there with my uncle and had loved the seafood chowder (which is their signature dish). I have dietary requirements so phoned the previous day to see if it was possible to make some amendments and they said everything is cooked fresh to order so there would be no problem (also assured me that people make requests like that all the time and I shouldn’t feel that I was being difficult (which sometimes happens) and they are more than happy to cater for anything). So I was able to have a wonderful chowder with vegan cheese and soya milk that honestly wouldn’t have known the swaps and my uncle had the sea bass with champ (on the menu had other potatoes but they are really happy to swap sides if you prefer). Overall was a wonderful experience and we were chatting away with the table next to us who were clearly enjoying the wonderful food and atmosphere too. Excellent food, reasonably priced oh, and good Guinness, ales, wines too!

Mayur Indian Restaurant

Killycrot, Carrickfergus
10/01/2019: Went here last Saturday with my friend and we had the best meal out that either of us have had in a really long time. From the minute we arrived, the staff were so attentive, without hovering or rushing us, it gave the meal a very cosy, family atmosphere. Within seconds of us sitting down, we were brought out complimentary poppadums and chutney's and a waitress arrived to take our drinks orders.
08/01/2019: After hearing good reports we decided to give it a try on Sunday

13/03/2019: Not good experience. The Behavior of staff is not friendly. Not good taste. If you are 6 peoples then they force you to order minimum 6 main course dishes irrespective of whether you need so much food or not. we ordered and then we had to waste half of the remaining food.
13/03/2019: Amazing food, friendly staff and great decor. Been coming here regularly for about one year now and have to say it is one of my favourite restaurants in Northern Ireland.

15/01/2019: My ‘go to’ place to meet friends for great coffee and flavoursome teas. The sandwich and soup combos are sensational and very reasonably priced too. No one shushing you along, staff are warm friendly and very obliging. Couldn’t rate this place highly enough!

Whitehead Golf Club Restaurant

Blackhead, Carrickfergus
02/02/2019: Had a Christmas dinner here with a group of good friends. Before our meal we gathered to wait in another bar at the back of the building, one I had not seen before. Nice place to wait. The do very generous portions here, so the prawn cocktail was a tower of good stuff. The main course had loads of turkey and stuffing, dishes full of vegetables and boats full of gravy. I put my hand into the photo of my dessert to prove how tall it was. So you will not go hungry here. The food itself was very good. The service was very attentive, in spite of our numbers, and the numbers at other tables. Add an extraordinary view, and this is a great place to dine. Loads of free parking outside.
15/01/2019: Just like to say I had 3 Xmas dinners over December and enjoyed everyone .also had a couple of meals with friends.great food and friendly staff willing to help when needed. Good place to bring your friends and family .sr

Papa Browns Grill

Killycrot, Carrickfergus, <20£
12/03/2019: I visit Papa Browns regularily as it is consistently good value for money. However I have always wanted to comment on their breakfasts and todays visit prompted this review. I had a mini fry and two coffees and was charged 2 to 3 times what I would be charged in other local establishments. The fry was alright...a bit bland and the bacon was under cooked. They dont "top up" the coffee ,which is something other establishments do.. The staff ,as always , were pleasant enough. As for the breakfasts I wont be back....there are plenty of other places offereing good breakfast at much better prices.
05/03/2019: Papa Browns is easily in my top 5 restaurants in N.I - this American-style diner offers a casual dining experience with delicious food, a buzzing atmosphere and affordable prices.

Rumours Coffee House

Killycrot, Carrickfergus
06/01/2019: Despite living in Carrick for 10 years we’ve always walked past Rumours, it’s nothing to look but we popped in for a change and we are pleased we did, the coffee was nice and the cinnamon scones were delicious, and all for a very reasonable price, will certainly be making a return visit.
22/09/2018: This little coffee/pastry shop is across the street from the Carrickfergus Castle and serves good coffee. Didn't try the pastries. He even put some whipped cream on the top of my coffee for me in lieu of skim milk.

Coastal Coffee

Whitehead, Carrickfergus
06/01/2019: I reviewed this small cafe quite some time ago when Jonni Lutzman was still chef so I thought I would update now he has not been working here for quite a few months. He and his wife now run lighthouse bistro which I have also reviewed.
06/01/2019: Went to the coast coffee for a breakfast in December. Have been to the other cafe's in Whitehead and unfortunately this one isn't the best in whitehead. Service was good but the food wasn't as good as the other places.

The Old Tea House Whitehead

Whitehead, Carrickfergus
23/12/2018: Had a great stay, with good coffee and cakes. Lunch was reasonably priced and easy jazz music playing in the background. Recommended for anyone passing by!
05/12/2018: Visited this cafe with my elderly father for lunch. He loved the olde worldy atmosphere and the food was very good and average prices. Staff very accommodating too. We will be back.

Bentra Grill

Whitehead, Carrickfergus
11/12/2018: Been far too many times for my waistline lol. Food is akways excellent and service cant be faulted. Well worth a try
11/12/2018: They had a Christmas tree outside, where their fountain is in summertime. Inside there was a very impressive life-sized Santa by the door, and some seasonal decorations around the dining area. Their Christmas menu was on offer, as early as December 4th, and we were impressed that it offered five choices of starter, seven options for the main course, and five different desserts. Someone else had the turkey and ham Christmas dinner, and liked it a lot. I chose the Honey Chilli Chicken from the regular menu; it’s an old favourite. I liked it as much as I usually do – it’s a fabulous dish. Their side order dishes contain generous portions. Water is free. They score 5 out of 5 for hygiene; have a great view across to Larne Lough; a big, free car park; and the staff here are excellent.

Mauds Ice Creams

Killycrot, Carrickfergus
21/12/2018: The best ice-cream in Carrick and they offer a wide variety of flavours to choose from.
04/11/2018: Massive variety of ice creams available. I don’t eat ice cream since Thayer’s disappeared off the face of the earth but oh my goodness you have to go in if you see a Maud’s sign - They are literally to die for!

13/03/2019: Enjoyed a lovely lunch as usual. Great food and service is second to none. We are frequent visitors to Season and are never disappointed. Staff always friendly and lovely warm atmosphere. Would not go anywhere else in Carrick!!
12/03/2019: Had lunch with hubby today. Had a long time to wait for sandwiches.brought out on wooden board. Hubby's quiche was cold. Silly mistakes are starting to happen and it's becoming. Boring having lunch here. One member of staff very badly dressed

Josh Macs

17/02/2019: There are better restaurants in the area than this one. Nothing special just seems like you’re eating at home when at this restaurant. It’s sufficient enough to fill a hole in your stomach if you’re hungry but I always opt for an alternative restaurant for example Springsteen’s which is practically next door.
14/02/2019: Nice bright and Airy restaurant. Friendly efficient waiting staff and quick service. Burger was nice cooked to perfection as were chunky fries. Its nothing different to anywhere else that does this type of food but quality is good. I just wanted to be blown away but wasn't. However lunch is good value so we will be back as its better than the other options in the town.

Espresso at ETC

Killycrot, Carrickfergus
05/02/2019: I had a challenge for them. I was teaching a class in 25 minutes’ time, several streets away. Did they have food I could have and eat quickly enough? “Yes,” was the cheerful answer, in fact they had lots of choices that could be heated in a minute, and more things I could choose to take away. I went for some microwaved bacon and mushroom quiche, plus side salad, plus a free glass of water. £4.99. I liked it, it was with me quickly, and I was away in good time. The salad had lots of ingredients: lettuce, sweetcorn, red onion, a cherry tomato, diced peppers, and cucumber. Plus coleslaw. Plus bread. The dining area is large, with space between tables. Good light, some colourful photos of Carrick Castle on the walls. They’re at the back of a shop on the main street. Staff were very helpful, and well able to cope with my lack of time. Well done.
31/10/2018: Wow, this is amazing. All fresh bespoke sandwiches etc great gluten free options. Teapots tray bakes and a lot more room than you'd expect. Buy Xmas pressies and treat yourself, all in the same lovely shop :)
