Mayur Indian Restaurant

Killycrot, Carrickfergus
10/08/2017: Tried both carry out and sit-in.Carry out food served through a separate food so don't disturb the restaurant diners. Excellent foods and nice range of vegetarian food.Dine in very good. Excellent service and nice to be met by the owner and introduced to the different options on the menu. Great addition to Carrickfergus.
09/08/2017: We have visited this restaurant four times now on each visit to Carrickfergus. Fantastic family run business, quality food, curries full of flavour. Madras being my favourite curry was hot, as Madras should be but with flavor. Too many times have had Madras in other restaurants which have heat but no flavor or have no heat at all! Had Lamb tikka starter, top quality lamb fillet with delicious tandoori flavour.. Waiters very helpful and pleasant. Tastefully decorated with views of the castle. We will be back, thank you!

Billy Andy's

Glynn, Larne
19/08/2017: We (group of four) visited Billy Andy’s on Friday Steak Night following two separate recommendations from friends. We had made reservations for 7 p.m. and on arrival the restaurant was about half full but within 45 mins or so, most of the tables were occupied. The staff were all friendly and engaging and service was consistently good. The best way I can describe the experience is that it was like being a guest on “Great British Menu” as the presentation of the food was similar to dishes you might see on the TV programme. We all chose different starters and everyone declared theirs as excellent; “Rustic Farm Pate with Pear and Saffron Chutney and Bacon and Thyme Crouton”, “Salt and Pepper Prawn and Shrimp Scrumps, Baby Gem, Spiced Tomato Jelly with Fennel and Guinness Mayo”, “Beetroot and Fivemiletown Goat’s Cheese, Beetroot Mousse, Meringue, Pecan Brittle and Sunflower Crumble” and finally “Wild Game Picnic of Rabbit Sausage Roll, Duck Pastille, local Cheddar, Wheaten, Apple and Grape Chutney”. The presentation was excellent (see photos) and all of the dishes were very tasty. For the main course, three of us opted for the “Surf and Turf consisting of 8oz Rib-Eye Steak, Salt and Pepper Tiger Prawns, Mushy Peas, Aioli Fries and Tartar Salad” while after much deliberation, I opted for the “Braised Rib of Magheramourne Beef and 6oz Sirloin with Celeriac Puree, Confit Shallot, Carrot Fondant and Roast Garlic Mash”; again the dishes were creative and very tasty. All of the desserts are “mini” and served as a selection of two or three, between us we had “Raspberry and White Chocolate Brioche”, “Sticky Toffee Pudding”, Apple and Berry Crumble”, “Strawberry Cheesecake”, “Ginger and Rhubarb Trifle”; they were all good but for me the stand out ones were the Trifle, Sticky Toffee Pud and the Brioche. There was a reasonable selection of wine and we tried the Ballybosch, which was excellent and very reasonably priced. We had travelled some 40 minutes from Knock and it was definitely worth it, we were lucky that one of our party does not drink so we had our own designated driver, which was an added bonus! I would highly recommend a visit to Billy Andy’s; you will be received with a warm welcome, friendly service and innovative, tasty food. We will return soon to try Sunday Lunch and will definitely be back for Steak Night, which is very good value at £22.50 for a choice of starter and main from the Steak Night Menu with desserts being at additional cost.
17/08/2017: Visited Billy Andy's for the first time on a recent Saturday afternoon, now a pub or inn is not my usual place for entertainment, but I could make a return visit very readily. We arrived before 3 pm, to get a table & seats for all 9 of us. Some 'deedlie Dee music' was already being played when we arrived.Over time, musicians joined the group until there was 8 or 9 of them, all very talented & of varying ages.A very pleasant afternoon was spent, & the drinks were good too...Staff were excellent, & paid very keen attention to our needs, & keeping the tables clean, & cleared of empty bottles & glasses.Probably will return...

The Boatyard Coffee Shop Coleraine

Dundooan, Coleraine
21/08/2017: Great place to stop in at for lunch. Luckily it was sunny when we were here so was able to sit outside in the sun. The elderflower cordial is delightful!
16/08/2017: My Wife and I found this place by accident on our way our for a drive on a rare day off work. Popped in and was delighted by the warm and welcoming service, the cute little Menu card and the good honest tasty grub I was presented. As the saying goes, sometimes the best days out are the ones you don't plan. This little place was on of those occasions.

Kiwi's Brew Bar

Royal Portrush, Coleraine
17/08/2017: We were recommended to eat here by the owners of the place we were staying at. When they said that they 'did burgers' we weren't all that interested, but decided to go and have a drink (great selection of beers) and a look at the menu.We had our 12 year old daughter with us, so we weren't sure if she'd be allowed in. She was.It was a bit dark in there on such a lovely, sunny day (had more of a 'club' feel to it) so it didn't really appeal to us to spend much time there. The staff were quite 'hipster' which made the place seem friendlier than it felt. The music they were playing was great and not too loud and sipped on our drinks while we looked at the menu. You could tell from the descriptions on the burgers that they knew what they were doing so decided to order. They were happy to swap the beef burger for chicken breasts on mine and my daughter's burger. When the burgers arrived they looked amazing and tasted just as good as they looked. The fries were freshly cooked and crisp. The burgers are clearly home made and we later found out that they were home made with beef from the local butcher (worth a mention on the menu?).The bar is dog friendly too. We saw a man come in and take his dog to the back of the room for a drink from the dog bowl before ordering at the bar. We don't have a dog, but it was good to see they take care of their four legged customers too!
17/08/2017: What a place! Dogs welcome, staff brilliant, music fantastic, atmosphere exactly what I was looking for, friendly one of the nicest bars in Portrush!

indian ocean

Killycrot, Carrickfergus
11/08/2017: Eating early evening the restaurant is not overly busy and lacks atmosphere. Having said that the staff are very friendly and attentive, the service is very good and the food of the highest quality.
09/08/2017: This Indian Restaurant does not look like much from the outside as it is set back in an industrial type area. But... when I stepped inside I was amazed, really stunning decor, one of the best I have seen! The food was excellent, curries very tasty and fresh ingredients. Staff attentive and not in your face. Will def go back.

21/08/2017: An excellent range of menus including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Situated in the Old Schoolhouse which itself is over 200 years old. Set in the historic village of Gracehill.
15/08/2017: We went as a party of five, and all were more than happy with the food and the service, A large selection to choose from on the menu, and helpful staff to explain the different dishes, which, when they arrived were very tasty, and all at a reasonable price,

ocho tapas bistro

Royal Portrush, Coleraine
21/08/2017: I visited Ocho a few weeks ago with 7 other friends on a busy midweek summer evening. We were there for the tapas and as you would expect we all ordered different things to share amongst each other. I should say for the record, the food/menu are excellent, however the service was dire! I've been badly served and ignored in the past by restaurant staff, but Ocho took it to a whole new level.Let me explain... I was there along with 7 others, one of whom was my girlfriend. As you would expect, we all discussed what we wanted/wanted to try and the two of us made very deliberate choices from the menu. "The steak."Ocho has a fairly authentic method of service, which is basically, that your food is served as and when it's ready. One of the dishes I ordered was lamb with puréed cauliflower as did another of our other friends. Towards the end of the service, the lamb was produced and I accepted what I perceived to be the first portion. As I was halfway through however, the owner of the restaurant, who had taken our initial order, came to the table with a sirloin steak. He waited for 'the steak' to be accepted, but when no hands rose he looked at me and said, "I think this is yours..." I told him, no, I've already got my lamb, I think we're waiting for one more, to which he replied, "No, I took your order and you ordered steak.." As you can imagine I corrected him, pointing out that I ordered lamb and that he must have made a mistake. In response, he simply said, "This is your order sir!" before setting down the steak at the far end of the table, before walking off into the kitchen, never to be seen again. I checked with everyone else in our party and no one ever heard mention of steak being ordered, nor did my girlfriend or I ever discuss ordering steak - if I want a steak, I'd get fillet from the Ramore off the wood burning stove, not from a tapas restaurant. (No offence...)The owner had made a simple mistake but instead of sorting it out, he basically called me a liar and caused me to go essentially argue with him over what I knew I had ordered. I could have seen through it if he'd run through the table's order with us after nothing it initially, but he refused to back down or admit he'd done anything wrong.Anyway, I assumed he was going to get another portion of lamb for me, but none ever arrived. After about half an hour it was clear it wasn't going to, so we skipped dessert, got the bill and left.I can't fault the food at all (even the steak I didn't order..) or the menu like I previously said, BUT the lamb tapas I'd ordered should have been £7ish and I instead ended up paying for a steak at £22 that I never ordered in addition to 2x other things from the tapas menu which amounted to £15!!!! Our bill totalled over £130 but none of us will ever be back, which is a shame as it's a both a good concept and good food. Apparently money can't buy good service though and service is just as important, of not more so than the food. If you're looking somewhere to eat and have high blood pressure, or any other stress related ailment, Ocho is best left alone - for the good of your health if nothing else.
19/08/2017: Went to this restaurant for my sister's birthday. We had all ages with us, from a toddler to our parents. The food was fantastic. Lovely to try Spanish food, especially enjoyed the squid and the salad was wonderful. Will definitely be back, we're already planning our next visit!

The French Rooms

Bushmills, Moyle, 20-30£
20/08/2017: Booked via email in advance and all went to plan. On arrival we were shown to the table by a friendly waitress. Food was very good and service really efficient. The place is really quirky and interesting as it also has a shop in front.
19/08/2017: We had the most amazing meal here this evening. The staff were helpful and seemed very happy to help and advise on the food. The sirloin steaks were fabulous and perfectly cooked to our request. We usually eat in Belfast City where there is a lot of choice restaurants- but this place certainly gives them a run for their money! Would definitely recommend this lovely restaurant to others

Simply Scrumptious Bakery

Portstewart, Coleraine
21/08/2017: we have been here 2 times. there is a good selection but the attitude of the staff leaves a lot to be desired. the coffee and tray bake that we purchased was good enough but atmosphere not great. i am disabled and on going to the restrooms you could easily trip and fall--- a step in the middle of the shop was dangerous and i did see an elderly lady take a tumble and the staff done nothing to help which i thought was awful. i don't think we will be back
06/08/2017: Went for tea when in Portstewart and came across this amazing bakery / cafe. The pastries in the bakery are enormous. had a prawn salad and plate was full, a generous helping of prawns on wheaten bread and a very good selection of salads which thankfully was covered in lettuce. The prices are very reasonable and the service was good too.

Fratelli

Galgorm, Ballymena
16/08/2017: We stayed at galgorm for a family wedding.Visited the restaurant on our 1st evening and the waitress managed to find us a table. The food we had was excellent and the staff very courageous and friendly so I decided to book for my family to have a meal on the next evening. In total there were nine people. All the food was piping hot and everyone enjoyed their good.can't wait to visit again!
15/08/2017: Visited on a busy Saturday evening. Service was good, food was good. Ordered from something similar to a tapas menu and enjoyed all the dishes on offer. 8 in total. I would visit again. My only complaint is the "water" for the table which we were asked if we wanted. Turned out to be £4 a bottle lol... Sneaky! I thought they meant a jug.

Cafe Revive

Glenaan, Moyle, <20£
18/08/2017: Stopped off for some tea and scones before we checked in to our accommodation just outside Cushendall. We asked in the local butchers if he could recommend somewhere for tea and cake & rather than just point us in the general direction, he actually walked out of his shop with us and round the corner to show us this place! Our first visit to Northern Ireland and we found everyone to be so welcoming and friendly, and Cafe Revive was also no exception. The tea and homemade scones are delicious, and the owners are just lovely. Really homely place and had a good chat before we left about our plans for the week & were given some tips and info about the surrounding area and what to do.Would throughly recommend this little cafe to others, and will call again if we are in Cushendall. Thank you!
15/08/2017: This is a very popular cafe in the village. Serves excellent coffee, all home make savoury dishes, tray bakes and desserts

Brown's Coffee Co.

Ballyclare South, Newtownabbey
20/08/2017: This cafe has always been a favourite of mine! I live far away from it but would do the drive just to get the lovely coffee and food! The staff are always so friendly, welcoming, accommodating and helpful! Its great to see that they are adding new menu items too! The southern fried chicken wrap that they brought out over the summer is AMAZING! Its a lovely little gem of a cafe and I always recommend it to others :)
09/08/2017: A great little coffee shop in Ballyclare, The outside of the building is deceptive, because once you go through the door you are greeted by a bright and surprisingly spacious dining area. The staff are friendly and courteous. The coffee is excellent and the food superb. The surroundings are bright and cheery. Around the walls there is artwork which is available for purchase and at the back of the restaurant there is a wool shop. An unusual, quaint even combination but it all works. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here.

Upstairs @ Joe's

Glenaan, Moyle
18/08/2017: This is a little hidden wonder, and well worth a visit. We went for the Sunday lunch, and oh my word...so tasty!!! the helpings are so big, and so so tasty. The staff were lovely and we really couldn't have asked for more.
17/08/2017: We visited Cushendall recently as we drove the Causeway Coastal route. It was late afternoon and we could not find a coffee shop open so somebody directed us to Joe's. It is mainly a fish restaurant but the very friendly staff there served us coffee and desserts. I would have liked to have had something from their extensive fish menu but we were going to dinner later and just were not hungry. We got two lovely desserts, served with a smile and some friendly chat. We also had coffee which revived us for the rest of that spectacular drive on the coast. If you are taking a break from the Causeway Coastal drive you could a lot worse than stop off at Cushendall and visit Joe's Upstairs. You will be spoiled for choice with so many beautiful places on the North coast of Antrim but we were glad we found Joe's place.
