23/10/2019: We booked at last minute so expected a wait when we got there, but after ordering drinks from the bar we were seated within 10 minutes. Not visited in a while and the staff remembered us and were very happy we had returned. We weren't sat facing the hot plate were the top chef does his flamboyant cooking skills, but after some other diners left after finishing their meal they gladly asked us to move for a better view, at first we declined but but they insisted as were have bee national visiting them for many a year. The food as always was beautiful, even the littlest of things weren't too much for the hostess. We will continue to return to this little gem.
28/09/2019: Visited on a Saturday night. Website said sittings were at 6.30 and 8.30pm so called to book for the latter but was told on the phone it was 6 or 8pm - that’s fine, we book for 8. On arrival we’re given a table in the bar area. It’s clear the food tables around the teppanyaki grill are still very much in the throws of their meal. No explanation given but eventually we are given a drinks menu (there is one waiter and the words ‘more speed, less haste’ were made for this situation). We order a bottle of champagne as it’s a special occasion but after 10 minutes’ waiting we are told they don’t have any, so we order Prosecco instead. At 8.45pm we’ve finished this so order another. 10 minutes later we are finally shown to our table at the grill. We get comfortable and 10 minutes later we are moved again to the other side of the grill. We choose our menu from the sets available and finally get our first food at around 9.20pm. The food was ok. Lots of meats in an identical marinade with very little to discern between them. The rice and veg are served after all the meat courses, by which point you really couldn’t care less about them. No desserts or coffees are offered. We order a pint of lager and instead get a bottle of Asahi - not the same thing. The waiter finally starts clearing the tables and is taking such time over it that we go to the bar to pay. In fairness, when i say that I don’t think we should pay full price after waiting for so long, we are given apologies and a 10% discount. But had we not had such a long wait, we wouldn’t have needed to order two bottles of wine. Also, the previous customers were blamed for our wait. Overall, the decent but not spectacular food in no way made up for the shoddy service and after spending more than £100 on our meal for two, after discount, we definitely won’t be back to make another expensive mistake.
