Maison Bleue Restaurant
Abbeygate, St Edmundsbury
18/05/2021: Regulars will know that we are huge fans of this restaurant. We've been coming to Maison Bleue for at least 20 years, probably more. And over the years it has constantly reinvented itself, with the food and service getting ever more impressive.Well, today, we were back for their first post-Covid lunch service, and it was an emotional moment - eating amazing food, in a familiar setting, looked aster by a Michelin-star winning team. The food is amongst the best you will ever taste. The service is attentive but unfussy. Our lunch gave us hope that we are heading back to some kind of normality. It was exceptional.
18/12/2020: We have been wanting to go here for a few years and finally got to go. It was truly worth the wait. The food service everything was to the highest standard. It was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I truly think it’s a michelin standard restaurant.

Restaurant 27
St Jude, Portsmouth, 60-100£
06/06/2021: We booked this well in advance, on arrival left standing there no one acknowledged us Eventually the Maitre De came over with all the personality of a funeral director! and said can I have a word and directed us to a corner out of the way of diners.( We couldn't think for the life of us what we had done!!) He said he had tried to ring us to confirm we were still coming!! WE HAD BOOKED ! Why did he need to ring us? He said they'd had a lot of no shows. ?? Our table had been given away!! but if we would like to have a drink first he would find us a table in 40 mins! When we said ok can we sit by the bar and wait we were told to go to the pub down the road!!The Florence Arms. Why we went back afterwards we still don't know! While we were in the pub he texted us ( On booking , to the question any allergies I said my husband is allergic to cream so no cream) he text to say is that hot cream or cold he's allergic to? WHAT ! NO CREAM I said . Silence came the reply! The Florence Arms gastro pub is worth a visit, with jolly helpful staff and food looked great. Why oh why did we go back to Restaurant 27 !!! Food while plenty of effort gone into it ,it was sickley with loads of cream in everything! Service from staff was good but dour as was the decor, no choice of menu you had what you were given! The evening was supposed to be a treat for my husbands birthday. We would never patronize this restaurant again.deffinately not worth the £150 spent. The Maitre Dr needs to go on a customer care course. My husband was ill all night and next day. ruined our day!
04/06/2021: The restaurant was fully booked and busy on a Friday night, and despite the initial abruptness of our welcome and being pointed to our table, this is definitely worth a visit. The tasting menu has a range of delicious food, with the staff working hard throughout to ensure you are not sat waiting for too long in between courses. We did not opt for the wine pairings but would do on future visits. We left not feeling too full or hungry, which is often a sign of a balanced menu. Food quality is high.

L'artisan
Lansdown, Cheltenham
01/05/2021: Had a lovely meal prepared by L’Artisan, very tasty and still hot although it had to get home and to the table. It was a treat to have restaurant quality food to share with guests. Can recommend. Thank you Elizabeth and Yves.
20/04/2021: Due to not being able to visit the restaurant we ordered an authentic French meal from L’Artisan to eat at home some 30 minutes away. It was so easy to order via e.mail and was all ready to collect at the precise time. We had chosen 3 meals from the set menu and 1 from the a la carte. All travelled well and were hot when served. We had put the oven on a low heat to keep the main courses hot whilst we ate our starters. All courses were perfect in size and exceptional in quality. The amuse bouche and pre deserts were an additional and welcome bonus. You may have no fears in ordering a meal from L’Artisan. Go for it. You won’t regret it.We look forward to eating IN the restaurant as soon as it is permitted.Thank you Yves and Elisabeth.

Samphire Seafood Restaurant
Mid Argyll, Argyll & Bute
19/11/2023: Lovely fresh food served by friendly, helpful staff. Great gluten free options available and staff showed good understanding of food allergy/intolerance issues.
03/11/2023: I dined at Samphire a couple of nights ago with my partner, and can honestly say that although I have dined in many high end restaurants, I have rarely had such an amazing culinary experience. A big thank you to Chef Patron Andrew and his team. Cosy atmosphere, great service and stunning food; fabulous local produce cooked and presented to perfection. My only issue was trying to choose from such a delightful and mouth-watering menu, so I reckon I'll just have to go back again....and again!

The French Quarter
Westgate, Newcastle upon Tyne
17/11/2023: What an amazing find, was recommended by word of mouth and thankfully I listened. Friendly welcome from Eleanor who is a credit to the business and very knowledgable and approachable. There was no pretentiousness which you often find in so called posh places, family run and you can tell the difference from a chain restaurant. Loved the idea of French tapas small plates and I have to say it was a taste sensation, tried escargot for the first time which made me feel like I was doing a taste test on I’m a celebrity. Wouldn’t normally contemplate eating snails but gave it a go. Glad I did, they were great just don’t think about what they are! Definitely be back and price wise was fairly reasonable for what we got.
16/11/2023: Visited with colleagues for an early dinner. First time dining here.
The restaurant is charming & the staff very friendly & helpful. For 4 we ordered 2 bottles of wine 2 portions of bread & 2 dishes each with one person also having pudding.
I went for the moules mariniere & potato gratin. Potato Gratin was lovely the moules were nice. My constructive feedback would be size of the pot (although admittedly cute to look at) they came in made it difficult to access the sauce at the start - a shallower wider dish would have been preferable so I could get more sauce on each mussel and got the full taste more.
Although it is a small plate restaurant both dishes were good sized portions and plenty particularly with the bread. All my colleagues enjoyed their food.
Bread was freshly sliced & the garlic oil as well as the butter was a lovely alternative. Great wine list with lots of choice.
Came to £39 each including 10% service charge. Would I visit again? Yes

Core by Clare Smyth
Pembridge, Kensington and Chelsea
02/03/2024: Excellent service and food ruined by being asked to move
We were very much looking forward to our lunch at Core having stayed up several nights to book a table due their difficult booking procedure. (They release tables around 6 weeks before booking dates and they seem to go in seconds).
Once we had secured our table we very much look forward to the day and we weren’t disappointed.
A huge array of staff welcomed us to the restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble and the food and service was impeccable.
I loved the fact that a lot of thought had gone into the UK provenance of the dishes. The clams from Scotland, the potted shrimp from Morecambe, etc. The creativity of the dishes was exemplary.
We went for the tasting menu combined with the wine tasting and looked forward to a leisurely afternoon of culinary excellence which was forthcoming.
Unfortunately the lunch came to an abrupt end after 2.5 hours when we were asked to move to the bar before even finishing out tasting menu. We ate our dessert in the bar.
No-one else was asked to do this. In fact the table next to us left 45 minutes later. And the table who arrived first left after another hour.
While the impeccable service, food and drink continued at the bar, the whole ambience had changed. And the lunch ended very differently to how it began.
If we’d ordered a la carte it would have made more sense for us to be moved on. But the fact that we were moved was inexcusable and completely changed our perception of the day.
I implore Core not to take customers for granted, to allocate at least three hours for tables with tasting menus. Please look at your competitors and make it special for your customers.
Recommended. But order a la carte unless you don’t mind being moved.
26/02/2024: Absolute cream of the Michelin crop! Beautiful experience, food looked stunning, full of texture and flavours. For special occassions!

La Belle Epoque
Heathrow Villages, Hillingdon, 60-100£
31/01/2024: I rocked up here while transiting through London Heathrow and doing an overnight at the Sofitel Hotel in which this restaurant is situated.
I expected standard-issue airport hotel fare, but the amuse bouche was beautifully flavoured, the scallop starter superbly cooked and the braised ox cheeks were as good as I’ve ever had. I don’t know who their chefs are, but they deserve a pay rise.
The serving staff were attentive, helpful and friendly.
This place was an unexpected pleasure!
13/01/2024: Booked the Sofitel prior to a T5 flight, two restaurants on offer but decided on the “fancier” establishment. A very nice surprise. Excellent menu and delightful specials with a good wine list. Service from Gilroy was impeccable and really made our evening.

The Checkers
Montgomery, Powys
04/01/2024: We stayed & dined here for New Year’s Eve. The room was great with quality amities and very nice Welsh cakes. The evening meal was fabulous, the set menu was well balanced and Andrew’s passion for quality and local ingredients showed. Rachel and the front of house staff are friendly and attentive. The rooms are very comfortable and we had a great night sleep. The following morning we had a great breakfast. Would highly recommended the rooms and restaurant. Will definitely return.
09/12/2023: Exceptional food and incredible service. We had both the tasting menu and vegetarian tasting menu. All courses looked and tasted delicious. It was a fabulous evening and will definitely visit again. Was a real treat and very special.

Comptoir + Cuisine
Abbey, Bath and North East Somerset
24/11/2023: I’ve never paid so much to eat so little! The food was nice but don’t expect more than a few mouthfuls for £££. I had a cocktail that was whisked away before I’d even finished it.
This place is so pretentious. Don’t bother unless that’s what you’re after.
20/11/2023: Not cheap, but well worth the money. Quiet, relaxed atmosphere, small plates service with food beautifully prepared (the pigs' cheeks in Calvados are particularly recommended). It's also the only place we are in in Bath where they actually serve your bread with more butter than you need. Catholics should beware when using the lavatories, though - the gents' displays a statue of Saint Anthony of Padua on the cistern, looking uncomfortable among framed black and white erotic photographs of inviting-looking young ladies, while in the ladies' a 1950s rent boy exposes himself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. ll in a long French tradition of secular anticlericalism of course, but it may offend you - if your religious sensibilities are such, I advise using a loo elsewhere just before you go there, or immediately after.

Mademoiselles
Whitby West Cliff, Scarborough
01/10/2022: Goats cheese tart lovely, and service was good, and generally expensive...... But £4.00 for 2 carrots... I will say no more🤔🙄
21/08/2022: Booked this place at the last minute and we weren't disappointed.
Whoever put the time and patience into the interior design of these rooms should be really proud of themselves, not something which can be described easily and give them the justice they deserve, they certainly are a unique boutique class of accommodation.
Very clean indeed.
Big and extremely comfortable beds with pillows to match.
The apartment is a very good size and well equipped as is the en suite shower room.
The Parisienne room is a head turning eye opener with a twist of something different, very nice indeed.
We can thoroughly recommend these rooms as Whitby accommodation.
Personally, we have been visiting Whitby for years but will be making these rooms our first port of call in future.
We didn't eat in the restaurant.

Truffles French Restaurant
Fareham East, Fareham, 20-30£
19/12/2023: We visit this restaurant regularly as a couple, but for our last visit we brough a friend along who was as impressed as we were. The small menu, which changes every couple of months, ensures that the food is really fresh and of a consistently high standard. One of us is a non- meat eater and the creative vegetarian dishes are some of the best I've eaten.
The restaurant itself is small, so it always has a nice intimate feel. The service is attentive, without being intrusive. I can't recommend it highly enough.
26/11/2023: Simply excellent food! Ate here with friends and we were all thoroughly delighted with the food - the restaurant itself is small (probably 20 covers) snd modt other tables were occupied but bur service was good, and the food arrived in good time. Pork & Mustard Croquette and then Roasted Cod were my choices - both were delicious, and even had room for a chocolate brownie. Wine choices excellent and vegetarians catered for (although slightly limited choices). One recommendation would be wider choice of alcohol free drinks...

Petit Coco
College, Cheltenham
11/11/2023: Great flavours the food delicious-not Hugh portions but quality over quantity!
Well presented
Fab drinks the French sparkling wine was divine
Not the most comfortable seats and rather scruffy tables chairs floors ect but I think that’s the effect they are after.
Service was perfect. Small restaurant. No good for the physically compromised person as very steep stairs.
No parking
10/11/2023: The restaurant is extremely small with a limited menu. All of the French inspired dished that we had were excellent. We enjoyed prawns, mussels, steak, fish and chicken and all were superb. The shellfish was particularly delicious. The service was professional and friendly.

L'amuse Bouche Restaurant
Priory, Malvern Hills
05/09/2021: This was an outstandingly good meal (food and wine) and a most enjoyable, relaxing experience. The staff were friendly and skilled. The main dining-room is very attractive with a small cascade amongst rocks a few outside one of the windows. The noise-level was low (no music) and allowed a stress-free and joyful reunion dinner for the four of us.
26/08/2021: The dining experience was top drawer and will live long in the memory. The Head Chef Chris really knows his business, as you can tell from his bio on the hotel website. The food and portions were all just right, so tasty, so many flavours, and the wine we had was tremendous. We particularly enjoyed the pudding/sweet taster selection (where you get one of everything). We loved the relaxing atmosphere of the restaurant, and all the staff were very friendly and well trained by the lovely host Barbara. Even the views from the restaurant into their sizeable garden with water feature were charming. We will definitely book here again in the future. Their two AA Rosettes, years of being Michelin Guide listed, and many prestigious culinary awards speaks for itself. Worth every penny.
