Countess of York

Holgate, York
13/12/2018: We enjoyed a very filling afternoon tea at the Countess - it was very decadent and tasty - they even changed my sandwich from cucumber, which I could not eat, to egg mayonnaise
11/12/2018: My wife and I have visited York many times and many afternoon teas in town. This time we tried the Countess. Location was perfect ambiance very nice. The food was just ok. Didn’t think the quality was as good as other places.

The Rhubarb Cafe

Central, Sheffield
09/12/2018: We were welcomed by a young lady called Lisa. And served by Bethany. Sorry but did not catch the name of the rest of the staff. But they were all very friendly and seemed very happy in their work. We had the Sunday roast of succulent pork and 3 veg with Yorkshire Pudding. The gravy was to die for.
07/12/2018: So worth a visit. Cosy little cafe selling excellent food at low prices. The eggs Benedict was to die for. Varied menu with vegetarian options. Can’t recommend highly enough ! Advisable to book as it’s popular.

The Aldwark Arms

Tollerton, Hambleton
16/12/2018: Had our annual Christmas meal for the village of Aldwark last night. The service and food was excellent. Our booking was for 62 people and the whole evening was faultless. Would recommend the Aldwark Arms for any and every special occasion. We are so lucky to have such a special pub in our village. Thank you to all the staff who worked last night.
11/12/2018: An absolutely stunning meal and the staff could not have been more polite or helpful. It was my mum's birthday and they did her a wonderful birthday dessert and joined in singing happy birthday to her. The pub itself is stunning and could not be cleaner. Could not recommend this place more!!

City and Hunslet, Leeds, <20£
02/12/2018: I had no idea that vegetarian food could be this good. The pitta was delicious, filled with falafel, hummus, veg and salad with a chilli and a gherkin for the brave! Good value quality food, very filling, and all washed down with lovely redbush tea. I’ll definitely be back.
01/12/2018: Got the special lunch deal. Was full after, lovely choices, great for vegans. Good service, tastey onsite made lemonade. Sat under stairs. I like corn exchange so great to eat with the bustle of what is going on.

The Moorcock Inn

Hawes and High Abbotside, Richmondshire
01/01/2019: Went with friends to bring in the new year. Amazing buffet with loads of interesting and tasty food. The staff here are so helpful and friendly, it’s almost like being invited to their home. I have to mention the wine list, it’s unusual, eclectic but (with guidance from Aimee) the wines we had were lovely and good value. Finished off the evening with a brilliant fire work display.
23/12/2018: A warm welcome from the staff and a cosy bar area with open fires set the scene well for our first visit

Harbour View Cafe

Castle, Scarborough
14/12/2018: Traditional cafe. Sunday papers, hot sreamy brews, harbour views and a warm welcome. Highly recommended!
12/12/2018: Went for full English Breakfast and saw Santa arriving by boat!

Low Harrogate, Harrogate, 30-45£
26/05/2018: Just tried to book again but sadly this great little restaurant has permanently closed. It's a sad indictment of the U.K. Restaurant science when even great restaurants fail
19/05/2018: An absolute treat. Lovely food cooked with care in a very pleasant atmosphere. If you like the taster menu experience Norse is well worth a visit.

Amici Ristorante

Keighley Central, Bradford, <20£
06/01/2019: We try to eat out for Christmas lunch each year and this year booked to go to Amici, the food was so good and lots of it including a yorkshire pud mmm, the service was really friendly and efficient no long bouts of sitting around waiting but no feeling of being rushed either, very organised - they know what they are doing. I am booking for Christmas 2019 now so we don't miss out. My favourite Christmas lunch venue so far.
27/12/2018: This is the best restaurant in town. I love Italian food and the food here is a taste sensation! I came here for my 21st birthday last year and the service was absolutely flawless. The ( I think manager ) even gave me a double brandy on the house. It was the most expensive brandy they had! Then there's the food, oh my GOD!!!!!!! I was literally thinking about it for weeks after. I honestly can't wait to come back here!

Blacksmith's Arms

Dales, Ryedale
15/12/2018: We have visited the Blacksmiths many times over the last ten years and have never been disappointed with the quality of the food, service and friendly atmosphere. Last night (December 14th) was no exception despite it being full. We had an excellent choice of food from the usual menu and inclusions for the festive season. Congratulations to all the staff.
15/12/2018: Location is a small village with parking in the lane. Food is excellent quality and service is good. The room was a little cool. Recommend a visit.

Thompsons Fish Restaurant

Micklegate, York
08/12/2018: Great takeaway and restaurant with great service and amazing portion size, good choices on menu and pensioner discount
05/12/2018: Thompson's have two shops but when driving up A64 this is the one I use. Good car parking. Modern refurbishedment , good toilets and warm building in winter. Cool in summer. The take away starts early . I honestly have never had fish and chips for breakfast. However bacon sausages and eggs are served and can be in sandwiches.

The Tiger inn

St Mary's, East Riding of Yorkshire
19/12/2018: A party of eleven of us held our Club Christmas do here. The food was delicious and served promptly by the efficient friendly staff. We were impressed by the organisation and good menu choices. Table was nicely laid and good crackers. Also the red wine was delicious and very reasonably priced and served at the right temperature. We will certainly return. Well done ‘Tiger’ for making our occasion special
16/12/2018: The Tiger has a really nice atmosphere with friendly helpful staff. We arrived without booking a table on a busy Sunday afternoon, but they managed to fit us in. The meal was very good, and great value for money, well worth visiting for a traditional Sunday lunch in nice surroundings.

2 Oxford Place

City and Hunslet, Leeds
18/12/2018: We visited this coelic restaurant on a wet and windy evening and entering the restaurant was like walking into someones house. Warm, compact and comfortable. Cosy modestly sized and could be considered intimate. We sat at a small table and were quickly asked about requiring drinks as we inspected the menu. Not a wide choice but sufficient. The presentation of the plates was excellent and the portion very reasonable. However the small bowl of vegetables was rather pathetic for two people. The cheesecake was pronounced excellent however the Christmas pudding was somewhat modestly sized although nice. Also a very good wine list.
17/12/2018: I booked this restaurant for my partner's birthday and it was a success. The food was lovely (goat's cheese tart to start and steak as a main). I had called in advance to say that I would bring some candles and asked if they could add them to whichever dessert my partner chose. We had enjoyed our first two courses and I was thinking that I would need to excuse myself to hand over the candles before we chose our pudding. In the end, it was all taken care of beautifully! Before I could make a move, the friendly waiter came around the corner with a gorgeous slice of cake decorated with a candle. It was a really lovely touch on top of tasty food and warm service. Thank you!

Black Bull Inn

Stainforth and Moorends, Doncaster, 20-30£
06/01/2019: Previous visits were really good, however this Saturday we visited for a family get together of 11 people. The service from the start was poor - the waitress came to take our order and we asked for 10 minutes. She actually replied that she could not give us 10 minutes, but was prepared to give us 5 minutes. To say this place is suppose to specialise in fish, we were very disappointed with our starters. The calamari was dry and tasteless, The scallops were so small they took some finding (not like the photos on this site). I am sure they were frozen. The garlic mushrooms were watery. Not impressed! Some of the main courses were ok, whilst others were dry or not very warm by the time the vegatables and chips were served. The table service was ok, but the member of staff who took our orders did not seem to be bothered and was not very pleasant. Definitely not value for money. There are now 11 people who will not return to this place or recommend it.
04/01/2019: Visited for lunch after looking on trip advisor for restaurants near 7 lakes country park only regret we had not found it earlier in the season Very warm welcome we were only people in and were not disappointed the food was amazing we both had seafood chowder which had lobster king prawn scallops and cod the sauce was delicious it was served with warm sourdough bread little bit more pricey than regular pub grub at £14.95 but this is high quality food Will definitely return in the near future The pub is open every evening and Friday Saturday and Sunday lunch

The Station Hotel

Lower Nidderdale, Harrogate
17/12/2018: We all enjoyed a variety of main dishes of good quality . However the meal was spoilt for us by a very unpleasant balsamic dip with otherwise lovely bread and olives . We do know what quality balsamic vinegar and olive oil taste like and therefore found it offensive when we discussed with the waiter how unpalatable the dip was to be told that there was nothing wrong with it and that this was what a good quality balsamic and olive oil combo tasted like !It is a real shame as this one individual and incident has put us off returning
16/12/2018: Went there yesterday - blissful retreat from the driving rain with a real log fire and decent beer. It was a family lunch and we had some excellent spring rolls (huge) and terrific steak and ale pies.

The Dining Room

Boroughbridge, Harrogate
09/12/2018: Fantastic Sunday lunch today. Great food, lovely welcome and relaxed but attentive service. The last time we had beef as good was the last time we were here!I Can't praise it enough and all at a very reasonable price. We were thoroughly spoiled.
07/11/2018: Long cold day, tired and fed up. Husband suggested the early bird at the Dining Room. They were so accommodating. We gave them about 5 mins notice and we were shown to a lovely table in a WARM, cosy corner.Absolutely outstanding food, freshly prepared, Homemade sourdough bread that was horribly moreish.Chicken parfait that was so smooth, home made almost christmassy chutney, delicious and I don't even like chutney.Fantastic wine.We would have loved one of the delicious sounding desserts but we'd run out of room! The very lovely friendly Lisa(Front of house) gave us a little stripey paper bag with the rest of the sourdough loaf to take home.
