Clos du Marquis

Wonston and Micheldever, Winchester
08/06/2019: This was where I took my wife on our first date and have been back every year since (including to propose). The menu is small and excellently prepared. The dishes change frequently but are always authentic French. Garth looks after you expertly and knows what you desire often before you do! Outstanding food doesn't come cheap but Clos du Marquis is always value for money. I cannot recommend it enough.
02/06/2019: First time visit last week for lunch which was a fabulous experience. France comes to Hampshire! From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome and comfortable. The food is delicious, without exception, as was the wine which was matched perfectly to our choice of food. Apparently the menu changes about every 6 weeks so we're looking forward to next time, though I'd happily be back to eat the same again. This is the best restaurant we've found in a very long time.

The Shoe Inn

Upper Meon Valley, Winchester
18/06/2019: We had a dinner here when we stayed in Exton. Delicious food, lovely atmosphere, excellent service, beautiful location. If it had been warmer we would also have enjoyed the lovely beer garden!
14/06/2019: Not been to the Shoe for ages so had high hopes on our most recent visit. We were not disappointed when we recently visited for lunch. Great menu choice, recommend the black pudding starter and the Asian pork salad.

Kyoto Kitchen

St Bartholomew, Winchester, 45-60£
17/06/2019: There simply aren't enough positive words to describe Kyoto Kitchen. The food is out of this world, my partner and I shared sashimi and a couple of vegetable dishes along with some miso soup and the quality and flavours were absolutely excellent. The staff were also incredibly helpful and informative about everything that was being served. Can't recommend highly enough.
14/06/2019: I don't normal write reviews, actually this is my first and this is why.....Wow, what can I say!!! I was in Winchester for the weekend and was excited to find a lovely little Japanese Restaurant. But this was not any little Japanese restaurant, it was fantastic. The food was so good I couldn't stop ordering more, it got to the point I couldn't eat anymore, but there was still so much I wanted try...... so I had to go back the next night and had as equally great night. Food was great, wine was great and the service was fantastic. Thank you

Samuel's Rest

Shedfield, Winchester, <20£
16/06/2019: I have just read this last review complaining about the roast dinner.
09/06/2019: We had been meaning to try Sam’s Rest for ages as the reviews are so good. However, we were really disappointed. We ordered roast beef and roast pork. Firstly the portion was enormous and frankly off putting, there was barely any room on the plate to cut the food. Absolutely loads of different veg but they didn’t have any flavour. The broccoli was also yellowish which was strange. We had no idea how this had been achieved.....can frozen portions of veg then be boiled? It really was most odd. Absolutely masses of meat, again flavourless. A huge stuffing ball that was very dry, but did have some flavour. There were plenty of people eating with no complaint so we remain confused as our meals were not that pleasant.......

Gurkha's Inn

St Bartholomew, Winchester
07/06/2019: It was our first time to try this place for dinner. It was a superb night and certainly lived up to its reviews! It’s a cosy but well laid out and clean little place. The staff were very friendly and confident to recommend meals for us. I particularly loved the Methi chicken curry and king prawns! Very reasonably priced and we will be visiting again soon!
22/05/2019: This was an absolutely five star experience! The staff were attentive, the food was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere we ordered a mix of seven meals a variety of appetizers, every one delicious. This was a superb experience!

Tichborne Arms

Cheriton and Bishops Sutton, Winchester, >100£
09/06/2019: A friendly welcome, great relaxed country pub atmosphere, above all the food and service were excellent. We enjoyed our visit and will return, probably with family.
09/06/2019: What a gem this pub is. I've visited twice this year and the warm welcome only adds to the quiet charm you'll already have experienced as you pass through Tichborne. The ale comes from casks behind the bar, which is fast becoming a rare treat these days. The ploughman's on this visit was superb and the garden is a great place to eat if the weather's fine. If not, inside its low lighting and old fashioned interior are equally appealing. A truly splendid village pub.

Pulpo Negro

The Alresfords, Winchester
04/06/2019: Visited for an early dinner. Food was average at best. I had 4 tapas dishes. A little bland and over salted. Wouldn’t return.
22/05/2019: We visited for a special birthday and had a wonderful evening. They were so welcoming and explained the different tapas on the menu. The waiter suggested we try the tomato bread whilst we read the menu and it was lovely with fresh tomatoes and garlic. We then ordered two dishes per person which was about right. Without exception, the food was excellent and the prices were reasonable. I can't wait to go again!

St John and All Saints, Winchester
16/06/2019: Found this place by chance on Internet. Excellent. Welcoming, friendly staff and owners. Great service, great atmosphere, lovely decor, reasonable prices I thought for What was served.
15/06/2019: I had heard the pub was under new management so visited with a group of friends for dinner.

Forte Kitchen

St Bartholomew, Winchester, <20£
14/06/2019: Stumbled on this excellent eatery by accident and had an amazing lunch. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Winchester. We did seem to drop-on in terms of timings because the place was packed. I had a burger which was beautifully cooked.
09/06/2019: I have been popping in here for years usually for brunch or lunch before a hairdresser's appointment .

Chesil Rectory

St John and All Saints, Winchester
18/06/2019: Average - be careful where you end up sitting - take a supply of cushions, old building, old furnishings! Very rowdy Saturday evening.
17/06/2019: wonderful food and the customer service is great, really interesting restaurant with lots of history behind the building. Its quirky and kitsch and fun - food was superb we will be back !!

The Vineyard Restaurant

Shedfield, Winchester, 30-45£
17/05/2019: An amazing venue with such a friendly helpful team. The views and surroundings are unique and stunning. I would highly reccomend.
01/04/2019: Most beautiful and memorable wedding venue. Fabulous.

The Barleycorn Inn

Bishops Waltham, Winchester
11/06/2019: Popped in for lunch, I wanted something substantial and home cooked, not junk food. I had the pie of the day which is made by the staff, and was very good. A little skimpy on the vegetables (brocoli, green beans, peas, and carrots) but still very nice and HOT. Nice surroundings too, if you don't mind the taxidermy of a fox!
08/06/2019: Our friends live in Sussex, we live in Dorset, and this is a good mid-point for us to meet up from time to time for some lunch and a good old catch up! We all love this place, everyone is always so friendly and attentive, and whatever food you order, hot or cold, is always perfectly presented and very generous portions. And, although one shouldn't place too much importance on it when everything else is top notch, the prices here equate to excellent value for money. I really wish this could be my local, I'd never go anywhere else!

Dog and Crook

Colden Common and Twyford, Winchester
16/06/2019: From the outside The Dog and Crook gives every appearance of being just another pleasant-looking semi rural pub. But don’t make the mistake of driving past if it’s above average food you are seeking. Their website hinted at an interesting and varied menu and we weren’t disappointed. I’m coeliac and the gluten-free selection was the main reason for choosing the Dog and Crook.
03/06/2019: 6 adults and two children for a birthday meal for my sister on Sunday. Food was wonderful and the staff are so helpful and friendly. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their wide variety of different meals. Cannot wait to go back! Second review I have ever written but compelled as so nice! Thank you.

The Bugle Inn

Colden Common and Twyford, Winchester
04/06/2019: Excellent Bistro style pub/restaurant which has won many awards. Sensibly priced, local sourced produce served by efficient and friendly staff - its recently opened 'sister' pub, the Fox at Crawley, is also a 'must' on your hit-list!
01/06/2019: Four of us met up for lunch. A great welcome, very friendly staff. We all had sandwiches of one sort or other, all fresh, tasty and delicious. Can’t fault the pub, food or service.

The Black Rat

St Michael, Winchester, >100£
04/06/2019: From the outside an unpretentious place and inside a bit rustic but cosy and welcoming with excellent staff so we were off to a good start. We went for Sunday lunch which was amazing value with difficult choices to be made. We really wanted to try everything as the combination of flavours was intriguing. I really don’t think it would have mattered though as each mouthful was a delight and cooked to perfection. Only managing two courses we were disappointed not to sample puds but don’t they say ‘save something for tomorrow ‘. It won’t be tomorrow but we will definitely be back. They certainly deserve every accolade.
02/06/2019: Loved our Sunday lunch outside in our little ‘beach hut’. The food was perfect, interesting and different, but not fussy. The service attentive without being intrusive. Very good value. We’ll be back.
