Clos du Marquis

Wonston and Micheldever, Winchester
28/08/2018: Wonderful meal at such a high standard. Not to be missed. Every morsel was a delight.
24/08/2018: Our favourite restaurant by far because of the tasty food, relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff. Today we had a fantastic lunch which we both thoroughly enjoyed. We can't wait to visit again.

Pulpo Negro

The Alresfords, Winchester
29/08/2018: It only took us 35 minutes from Basingstoke and it was totally worth it - We booked dinner for a Tuesday night and whilst we were the first in the restaurant at 7.15pm, by the time we left, it was pretty full, so I'd certainly recommend booking - even mid-week!
28/08/2018: Alresford is a very pretty Georgian town renowned for its pastel-coloured houses and beautiful summer flower displays. It has lots of great family oriented events throughout the year and there are several good places to eat - including Pulpo Negro, a tapas restaurant right in the centre of the town. PN always has a friendly, welcoming vibe and the food is delicious. The decor is atmospheric and fun and they have managed to get a lot of tables into a reasonably small space but without making it too squished. In summer, you can sit outside on the pavement and watch the world go by with a glass of something delicious in your hand. It's a good venue for couples, friends and for older children/teenagers who will like its quirkiness. Smaller children may find the menu a bit challenging. If you haven't been and are in the area, give it a try.

Gurkha's Inn

St Bartholomew, Winchester
17/08/2018: If anyone is looking for the most amazing authentic Gurkha dishes this is the place to be. We had the most wonderful meal there last evening. The service was great and a big thank you to Gopaul for making our dining experience so amazing.
06/08/2018: Great service and food every time we turn up. One of our favourite restaurants in Winchester. Pickle lamb is very special

Forte Kitchen

St Bartholomew, Winchester, <20£
17/08/2018: My friend and I happened upon this little gem yesterday for a joint birthday lunch. The menu is wonderful with interesting choices, the food simply lovely and the staff are attentive and engaging. Cannot recommend it highly enough !
10/08/2018: Kann ich nur empfehlen. Das Personal unglaublich freundlich. Die Portionen gross und das Essen von Haus gemacht.

Kyoto Kitchen

St Bartholomew, Winchester, 45-60£
13/08/2018: Haven't been here for a while so wasn't sure what to expect. My partner commented that this was one of the nicest meals out we have had in a very long time. Food was very well prepared and presented. Super tastes and textures and portion size was well judged. We opted to try three dishes at a time from the menu to share and then add another one as we went, until we were full. I'd recommend the salmon! Service was attentive and friendly and although the restaurant seemed quite busy, we didn't have to wait long for any dishes. We opted for wine by the glass and were not disappointed with any of our choices. Overall a really great meal and an enjoyable dining experience. Ambience and décor of the dining area is understated but clean and appropriate to the 'feel' of the place. We will be back again soon.
10/08/2018: How fitting that Kyoto Kitchen finds itself amidst the speciality craft crockery art and wine shops on Parchment Street. Such is the exquisite nature of the cuisine here that the menu ought properly to be written on parchment in squid ink. This is where set menus are all but tasting menus and climb to fairly stratospheric prices. So for a more modest family lunch after starters of edamame beans, seafood miso soup and breaded prawns, we stick to teriyaki chicken and duck breast with pineapple with mains. All served by politely bowing waitresses. All superb. A sort of provincial culinary nirvana.

The Shoe Inn

Upper Meon Valley, Winchester
18/08/2018: The start of our visit wasnt good, tables were laid so we sat down to be told in a loud voice that laid tables were booked, have never come across this before. We were given another table that we could have if we were finished by 1 45 as that was when it was booked. After this bad start we had a lovely visit, my husband had the fish dish and I had the Mustard ham, eggs and chips which was excellent. the bread served was out of this world. The staff were very friendly and helpful, service with a smile and very quick seeing they were so busy. The garden by the river was very busy and a nice place for families to relax.
17/08/2018: We stopped here for lunch on a Saturday having not visited it for about 5 years. It was even better than we remembered. Food was excellent and staff friendly and attentive. On a sunny day there is an attractive garden opposite. Parking is limited. Booking is advised

The Bugle Inn

Colden Common and Twyford, Winchester
19/08/2018: Came here for a Sunday family lunch - nice pub in a lovely village, with limited parking unfortunately, which leaves you either in the narrow road outside or a walk away.
18/08/2018: I use to frequent The Bugle a lot when I previously lived in Winch. Moved back a month or so ago and my friend had a birthday meal booked at The Bugle and kindly invited me. Always had excellent food and service there.

Cafe Meon

Wickham, Winchester, <20£
18/08/2018: The food was delicious, so many new flavours and beautifully presented. We had the Japanese flatbread to start, the gnocchi and Lebanese mushrooms for main, and the apple tart and brownies for dessert. Good service and a nice atmosphere in the light and airy restaurant. Nice to have a vegan restaurant near Southampton at last!
15/08/2018: This place never disappoints. Another new menu meant we were spoilt for choice, opted for the Mediterranean bowl which was delicious and chocolate brownie for dessert, best chocolate brownies ever. Usual excellent service and lovely ambience. Need to go back to try the other new options, beet burger 5 looked amazing and can’t wait to try the new fish and chips.

St John and All Saints, Winchester
19/08/2018: Chicken Kiev was burnt on top and bottom even worse! It was CREMATED. My Burger was supposed to have a beer burger bun but was served up in a piece of ciabatta
15/08/2018: My neice and family chose this pub for an early birthday lunch for me as is was convenient for both of us ( they had travelled from Wales and were staying nearby) and it was a great choice. Lots of choices on the menu and specials list, all reasonably priced. The pub was also chosen as it was dog friendly, and I had two dogs with me, and it was not a problem to have them in the main part of the pub. It is a beautiful location, flowers everywhere, looked spectacular. I was then surprised with a birthday cake, which none of us had knowledge of. My neice said they just asked if the booking was for anything special and she told them it was my birthday. What a lovely gesture. I will definitely go again, the food, atmosphere and staff were great. Thank you for making our meal so special today x

The Barleycorn Inn

Bishops Waltham, Winchester
06/08/2018: Took a drive to Waltham on the recommendation of friends who enjoyed a memorable Sunday lunch. Unfortunately, we could not confirm their opinion.
20/07/2018: Cuisine simple dans un cadre agréable avec un super jardin à l’arriere du restaurant. Au niveau du service correct même si la commande n’est prise qu’au comptoir.

Tichborne Arms

Cheriton and Bishops Sutton, Winchester, >100£
19/08/2018: Selected this pub on the basis that they accept dogs and is close to the Watercress Railway Line. We ordered Fish and Chips and a Ploughman's. The Fish when it arrived was dark brown having been over-cooked, it had the appearance and texture of something that was frozen as were the chips. The owner apologised and discounted the meal by £2. My wife's Cheese Ploughman's was not too bad. Both meals came with a salad which had a very sharp Balsamic Dressing (both in my opinion, unnecessary). We had a Lemon Merengue Pie and a Sticky Toffee Pudding, the former according to my wife could have had a sharper lemon flavour, My dessert was very good.
18/08/2018: Been here as a group half a dozen times since Dec 2017.The staff have always been unfailingly accommodating. The home made food has always been excellent. The beer is kept in barrels in the bar including the excellent Palmer’s Copper from Dorset.

Chesil Rectory

St John and All Saints, Winchester
19/08/2018: What a lovely restaurant. Sitting upstairs in the gentle surroundings of this ancient property, amidst the gentle murmur of conversation and relaxed folk enjoying an evening out
19/08/2018: Beautiful place. Full of history. Absolutely delicious food and excellent service. Thoroughly recommended

The Black Rat

St Michael, Winchester, >100£
28/08/2018: The black rat restaurant , pub and b&b; - it’s all a bit quirky but very deserving of its Michelin star . A great evening starts in their pub with gin bar , into restaurant , back to pub ( very quirky !) and stay over at the prison themed b&b; . Food was fabulous and the ambiance terrific
27/08/2018: A special meal with a spend of £160 for two people deserves more than having the owner and his guest smoking at a table just 5 metres from mine. I asked the waiter to speak to the persons concerned without knowing who they were but the waiter declined to do so as it was the owner who was smoking.

Lilly's Tea And Coffee House

Wickham, Winchester
29/08/2018: What makes this place special and the reason I visit sometime three times a week is the staff! The polite young man on the till and the stunningly beautiful girls waiting the tables, all so friendly and nothing is to much trouble. I really hope the boss knows what an amazing bunch of workers he's got there because it's not always about the amazing, stunning and delicious food served there!
27/08/2018: Wickham, the square, delightful town square, easy to park and a small fee.

Samuel's Rest

Shedfield, Winchester, <20£
29/08/2018: I love this place. It is run by a family who all work hard.
28/08/2018: We ended up here by accident as the hotel nearby where we were staying was too busy and we needed to get some food quickly.
