Samuel's Rest

Shedfield, Winchester, <20£
19/03/2019: Very nice evening meal with two of my neighbors. Hoped to be a few of my friends for my birthday, the food as always very good value. Lovely lamb shank with mash and vegetables. The food ordered by the other two was lovely too.
18/03/2019: We visited yesterday after my friend recommended we try the pub. We both had the Sunday Roast Lamb and it was Amazing, so tasty fantastic selection of fresh vegetables perfectly cooked and fantastic tasting Roast potatoes and plenty of them. Usually when you have a roast in a pub/restaurant you get the obligatory three roast potatoes, but not at Samuel's Rest.

Clos du Marquis

Wonston and Micheldever, Winchester
19/03/2019: This place has been around for years, been through a few different owners as well. However the food, the great wine list and the service have always been outstanding. On our last visit the mussels were probably the best i have ever had. Hope it continues its almost legendary status.
02/03/2019: Have not been for some time. Still good value a limited menu but good French country fare. Always have good game on the menu plus fish. Also good French cheese selection.

The Shoe Inn

Upper Meon Valley, Winchester
16/03/2019: Invited to lunch by my son & daughter in law, my first visit to The Shoe, it won't be my last, I would definately recommend a trip here. The staff were very friendly & welcoming. The food, I has a roast, the best roast that I have had out by far, absolutely delicious, had to have a break before dessert and my, that was so worth waiting for. A good selection of wines (& gin) You can buy their freshly baked bread, what a treat. Make sure you book a table, enjoy
15/03/2019: Wow....I had never heard of the area let alone the pub!! It was suggested by a friend that we meet there last Friday evening! We were not disappointed it was absolutely wonderful both the atmosphere, service and food. I would suggest booking as it can get very busy...the food choices were great and the value for money was excellent. Well done to the team I will definitely go back soon. A hidden gem!!

Kyoto Kitchen

St Bartholomew, Winchester, 45-60£
19/03/2019: A great restaurant, better to ask for a table on first floor (basement sometimes not so great service...). Good wine list with a nice Sancerre. Recommend the Dragon Roll sushi.
19/03/2019: The owner and team have created a unique treat here in Winchester. Fresh and inspiring food from Japan.

Pulpo Negro

The Alresfords, Winchester
11/03/2019: Decent sized menu and great execution on all the dishes we ordered. Small tapas portions which means that one can try more dishes. I had a watermelon martini and it was really good. The restaurant decor is cosy - rustic wood tables teamed with Vitra chairs. Friendly staff. Great evening out for all occasions.
11/03/2019: We arrived on wet and windy day to meet up with old friends. They had chosen Pulpo Negro knowing we had lived for a number of years in Spain.

The Barleycorn Inn

Bishops Waltham, Winchester
09/03/2019: Been her a few times now... great burgers and nice sandwiches for lunch lunch. Can get busy but always great services. Great keep it up we will be back.
23/02/2019: Went here today with the family and had lunch. A great choice of food - can recommend the ploughman's They did us 3 veggie ones ie: minus the ham but topped it up with other things. This was a refreshing change as many a times the 'minus the meat' bit usually results in just that, and then shuffle the food around to make it look more! we might be veggie but we still eat lol! It was absolutely delicious. Fish and chips were great, as was the beef pie and a good choice for children too. Hats off to the chef and staff. Nice big garden area with a section for the children to play on - perfect. Plus parking on site. Will be back.

Tichborne Arms

Cheriton and Bishops Sutton, Winchester, >100£
12/03/2019: The Tichborne is the kind of pub you want to return to again and again. The beers and cider are excellent and well kept by the landlord, Patrick, and the food is delicious. Four of us drank and dined very comfortably in front of the fire: home made pate, good whitebait and followed by trout from the Itches, faggots and venison pie - followed by sticky T.pud. and a delicate apricot tart and almond - all outstanding. I look forward to eating and drinking in the pretty garden in this quiet, ancient village during the summer. Thoroughly recommend the place.
03/03/2019: We’ve just enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast at this charming unspoilt pub. Hubby enjoyed the cask ale and all meals were excellent especially the puddings! Lovely friendly service too...

Piccola Roma

Bishops Waltham, Winchester
08/03/2019: Came in and we were the first 2 to arrive. Got shown to a table in the corner as we requested but asked to move because the table was so wobbly. It was the table top that was wobbly so could not shove something under the table leg to prevent asking to move. Waitress seemed shocked we wanted to move. Food was prompt but tasty. Prices fair- bottles of beer only at £4 each, went to pub after and got a pint of the same for £3.80. All nice, would go again and have been several times before.
17/02/2019: Well done Charlie and all your team. We had the best ever meal that evening. The whole thing was lovely from the menu and food (steaks declared perfect) and service, to the table settings, to being given a red rose on departure. A great evening.

Gurkha's Inn

St Bartholomew, Winchester
09/03/2019: I came on a Friday evening had booked for 8pm but was seated late. Turns out it was my fault as I'd not seen a voicemail message. Had a nice meal. Pakora for starter then "gurkhas revenge" for main. It was labelled 3 star for heat rating. It was nice but im not sure it was 3 star for heat. Overall a good meal. My only comment is the restaurant would benefit from either a bigger building or maybe remove 1 or 2 tables to give more space
06/03/2019: I was staying overnight in Winchester and fancied a curry, so I checked Trip Advisor ratings and saw the Gurkha's Inn at the top of the list...situated close to the railway station and just 10 minutes walk from the cathedral and my hotel. The reviews looked very good so I gave it a try and was pleased with my decision.

Forte Kitchen

St Bartholomew, Winchester, <20£
19/03/2019: Attended a wedding dinner with a group of 30 and everything was wonderful. They were ready to go when we arrived and service was great. They were able to accommodate everyone’s dietary restrictions. Would definitely recommend.
16/03/2019: It was an hour before we got our breakfast. It was good, but we were frustrated as they took an hour to get us our food. There is a lot of choice and the price is medium range which is one of this restaurant’s pros.

St John and All Saints, Winchester
07/03/2019: We’ve been here a number of times over the last year or two and I’m sad that it’s not as good now as it used to be. The menu is now heavy with burgers and the food itself is lacklustre. It is a nice pubby sort of place with fires and a lovely period look but that doesn’t make up for fairly expensive mediocre dining.
06/03/2019: First off a pint of beer £5.10p and £4.50 for a pint of coke! If that's not enough we ordered starters from the specials menu expecting tasty fresh ingredients only to be served frozen calamari rings and jalapeño bullets straight from icelands at £7 a dish. Mains then get served with thick conjealed salty gravy smothered all over my pie and chips,I never return a meal but I had to this time only to get attitude from waitress saying it states on the menu it has gravy smothered all over it! Which in turn I proved her wrong by showing her the menu which had no mention of gravy anywhere. i find it hard to believe anyone has had a good meal here and will be avoiding this place like the plague. Please do not eat here and drive straight past to a better establishment.

The Bugle Inn

Colden Common and Twyford, Winchester
12/03/2019: We’ve been to The Bugle before and had a great meal. So we thought we’d take my fiancé’s Mum & Dad there .
10/03/2019: First time here, very relaxing warm authentic atmosphere. Very friendly attentive staff. Great service and fantastic food. Definitely returning and recommending.

The Robin Hood

Owslebury and Curdridge, Winchester
01/03/2019: I’ve got nothing but praise and superlatives. Excellent customer service, wonderful food from an extensive menu, great atmosphere, friendly and nice ales. Have been there twice and will be back again soon. The sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream was to die for and the baby back ribs were the best I’ve ever had.
23/02/2019: We stumbled upon this pub by accident after an afternoon dog walk and how pleased we are! We had the oil, olives and bread to start; the bread was so flavourful, then my husband had the ribs and I had the rump of lamb; absolutely delicious! The meat was delicious and beautifully done on both dishes. The presentation of the lamb was beautiful. Really impressed and delighted by the food. The service was wonderful, the landlady went above and beyond and they were very accommodating of our dog and one year old son. Will definitely be going back and recommending to people.

Chesil Rectory

St John and All Saints, Winchester
19/03/2019: Lovely early evening dinner .Our favourite dish was the starter . Black pudding scotch eggs ... absolutely gorgeous & perfect yolk .
19/03/2019: Four of us arrived late somewhat fraught after a delayed train journey but needn't have been concerned. Having negotiated the steps down and low entrance door the staff welcomed us and showed us to our table in a cosy part of this wonderful old restaurant.

Cafe Meon

Wickham, Winchester, <20£
17/03/2019: Wow amazing food, tasty, fresh and moorish. Recommend, always a pleasure to visit when in the area. We will be back very soon, well done guys great concept, done well !
04/03/2019: Visited here with a friend. Neither of us are vegan but we’d heard good things about the place. The menu is small but the food was amazing. We shared the beetroot burger and cauliflower cheese which were yummy! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The cafe is inside the Chesapeake Mill. Highly recommended.
