Restaurant 56

Faringdon and The Coxwells, Vale of White Horse, 60-100£
15/02/2019: It gives me little pleasure in writing this review as I had been looking forward to the evening, having read the various reviews on Tripadvisor. However, I have to say, for a restaurant seemingly so well regarded, it was one of the most disappointing meals I have had for some time. We went for the full tasting menu and I have to say not one of the seven courses were remotely interesting. Bland and boring was how I would sum it up, although one of the desserts was tasty enough but something you'd find at any half-decent restaurant. In its defence, the place itself was very nice, the staff polite and helpful and the wine list excellent. But the food? Over-priced and dull, I'm sorry to say.
15/12/2018: We arrived at Sudbury House reception and were shown through to the restaurant drawing room for canopies and our coats were taken whilst we choose from the menu. We had rung ahead regarding our dietary requirements (gluten/nuts) and the chef was very accommodating by changing a few dishes to meet our needs. We were asked if we were there for an occasion? I said it was for my birthday.

04/03/2019: The pud is old but lovely and clean,we ate the fish and chips which was £14,a little too expensive for me, but I did enjoy it. I also had a pudding which was £8.50, small nice but to costly. The staff were very nice, lovely attitude towards customers, In a little village with seating outside in a nice garden.

Buscot Tea Rooms

Faringdon and The Coxwells, Vale of White Horse
11/03/2019: Popped into this tearoom on the way to the lovely little Church at Buscot. It was warm, friendly and so very inviting. I had an epic sausage and red onion sandwich on bread that felt it had been freshly baked on the premises. The tea was of an extremely high quality and the cakes and scones were a temptation that we resisted (after all it was lunchtime), but we were sad that we did. We shall be back.
02/03/2019: Enjoyed a lovely lunch here. The fact it's not National Trust is a bonus and the good food, reasonable prices and friendly staff made for a welcome change from standard NT offerings. Lunch came with a huge pot of tea and the elderflower and raspberry cake was delicious. Will definitely be back!

Rosie's Tea Room

Abingdon Abbey and Barton, Vale of White Horse
23/12/2018: Sadly this wonderful tea shop, which we used often esp for a lunch or two is having to close because of landlord issues. We are all bereft and hope they can find new premises
09/12/2018: While visiting from the US we met up with a friend who recommended this tea room. We had arrived after talking a windy and cold walk along the Thames. There is a great selection of tea which is served in pots with beautiful miss-matched tea cups and saucers. The scones were served warm with delicious jam and butter. The staff was very friendly. And most importantly there were high chairs for our 23 month old. This was a great find!

The Snooty Mehmaan

Longworth, Vale of White Horse
12/02/2019: A party of five visited this restaurant for the buffet Sunday lunch. The buffet was a good selection of Indian and Thai food (I found the Indian of better quality than the thai) and the it was particularly nice to see a fish curry included. The service generally was attentive and the drinks menu gave a wide selection, especially of gins. The overall bill came to £12 a head for food plus drinks which we thought was exceptionally reasonable.
21/01/2019: Stayed in Burford visiting my Dad who has Vascular Dementia, I cannot begin to tell you how well we were treated, as we arrived staff opened doors as we had Dad in his wheelchair they then put a portable ramp down a few steps and escorted us to our table.

The king and Queen

Shrivenham, Vale of White Horse
10/03/2019: Had a wonderful Sunday Roast at the King and Queen in Longcot.
15/01/2019: Have been to this pub several times now and was always impressed with the beer, the food, and the warm welcome. But I got the impression this would soon be changing as I think the landlord/landlady are moving on. How very sad if this is true - but I wish them every success in the future
