The Poet

Brenchley and Horsmonden, Tunbridge Wells, 20-30£
18/04/2019: Excellent service, charming old place with loads of history--just ask the wait staff. Cozy and full of life and good food and charming.
14/04/2019: We have wanted to dine here for ages and so glad we finally have! The decor in the pub is so beautiful and the staff were really kind and welcoming from the start and throughout our evening. Great gin selection and the bar. The food was amazing - my fiancé had the quail for starter which was delicious. I had the lamb for main - I really enjoyed it. Loved the amuse bouche as well! Will definitely be coming back.

The Spice

St James', Tunbridge Wells
18/04/2019: Would highly recommend if your looking for a curry, the food and service was top notch, very helpful waiter in helping choose the dish to suit your taste.
15/04/2019: What a lovely evening and lovely food we had at The Spice. It has a great menu, but its best feature has to be the wonderful staff, who were so welcoming, courteous and efficient. I tried a chicken shaslik bhuna, quite possibly the best Indian dish I have ever tasted! It's just a little cramped in the restaurant, but that's only because its so flippin' popular!

Toad Rock Retreat

Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells
01/04/2019: Another excellent meal with friendly and considerate hospitality from all at the Toad on a busy Sunday lunch time. A really nice touch was a box of chocolates for Mother’s Day for each table. Sunday roasts are amazing as were the desserts our party of 7 were more than happy with everything. One of the best finds on moving into the area.
17/03/2019: 4 adults and 2 children. My wife and I live abroad now so appreciate a good old British Sunday roast. Not disappointed.. Choice of roasts plus the normal menu. Slightly quirky, friendly staff, interesting location out of town centre. Recommended.

Juliet's Cafe

Pantiles and St Mark's, Tunbridge Wells
18/04/2019: The cakes and antique cups and teapots in the window attracted me first, and the long lines pushed me to come back later - and I was glad I did! I ordered the avocado open sandwich once I saw it being delivered to another table, but made it non-vegan by adding bacon: delicious! Enjoyed my pretty pot of tea (large tea and herbal tea variety available), cup and saucer, real silver cutlery and fine china plate. Unfortunately didn't have the space to attack one of the delicious looking cakes or desserts, but I hope to go back!
13/04/2019: Attended here today for a baby shower. I have Coeliac disease and have to follow a strict gluten free diet. I was so impressed with Juliet's fot catering for my need , The gluten free bread was the best I have tasted and my fillings were matched to what others were eating which was so refreshing. I was given 2 Huge slices of cake which again was a treat as normally I am given a chocolate brownie . The lemon cake was my favourite, but both were so light and delicious. Fantastic service and a fab afternoon. Thank you Juliet's. I will definitely be back for afternoon tea .

Rendez-Vous

St James', Tunbridge Wells, >100£
14/04/2019: Great French brasserie, really good value, a £9.99 daily deal, great menu with a specials board for those seasonal treats, a good selection of French wines but most all a really warm welcome from Mark and his team. Don't miss out on the great and exotic selection of ice creams and the cafe gourmand, a tasting plate of mini desserts.
10/04/2019: After finding the time to come here we are glad we did. Sunny day perfect lunch and even better service. The food was perfect. I had the Welsh rarebit to start and we both had the special meatloaf on bubble and squeak for main (accompanied by homemade chips) my fiancé had the creme brulee for dessert which as caramelised to perfect and I had the homemade meringue with Chantilly cream and fruit compot. For me the cream was out of this world I've never had cream like it.

Apicius

Benenden and Cranbrook, Tunbridge Wells, >100£
16/04/2019: Quirky service, great food prepared by a man that really cares for his food and is on the top of his game.
15/04/2019: Apicius isn't open all week (Thursday-Sunday lunchtime only), but it definitely worth seeking it out. It is in a small (but elegant) room in Cranbrook's lovely town centre & run by a husband & wife team (he cooks, she runs the front of house). One chooses from a relatively small menu of intricate and sophisticated dishes (which changes every couple of weeks or so), each of which is offered in two sizes - small (but not at all tiny) and large - and one can have them in any combination: we had two small ones each (see photos) and found that, plus a dessert and coffee/petits fours filled us very pleasantly. I suspect if we'd had a small plus a large we wouldn't have had room for the super dessert...and that would have been a loss!

The Black Horse

Pembury, Tunbridge Wells
15/04/2019: We went out with the kids to enjoy our day, googled search somewhere in tunbridge wells to eat!! We came across this place so we thought we would try it. What an awful experience. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by blonde female that told us you have 10 minutes to order.... we got put off but ok, then I asked if we could seat in the restaurant to be told no one is there so you can not. I wish I had never gone there
10/04/2019: Dropped in here to get some food. Place was very busy but they found us a table. Service was very friendly and helpful. We had the carvery which was great, very plentiful and all fresh home cooking. We had such a big roast that we had no room for pudding so the waitress happily packed it up to take away. Would wholey recomend the black hoarse in Pembury but definitely pre book as we were lucky to get a table. They also do some lovely sea food dishes.

Red Lion

Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells
13/04/2019: Went with family for Mothers Day. Pub much improved after being called the Dead Lion! Now serves Thai food but with a range of beers and other drinks. My cashew stir fry was delicious, with just the right degree of crunch, and full of varied vegetables. Family were all pleased with their choices. Service was fine, with a smile. Went out the back later to sit with coffee in garden, while little one played on slide happily. Parking available. Very good, will return.
09/03/2019: We had told two friends about the food and jazz at the Red Lion, so we booked a table for Saturday night. We were a bit disappointed to be given a cramped table jammed against a pillar. The best table had been reserved for David and Ursula who were due at 7.30. At 8.10, we asked if we could move to David and Ursula’s vacant table but were told that they were still expected. Our food arrived in dribs and drabs over ten minutes, so the first person had almost finished her meal by the time the last had been served. At 8.40 David and Ursula had still not arrived despite,we were told, having been most specific about which table they wanted to book. Like Godot, David and Ursula never did arrive.

Sofias Colombian Kitchen

Park, Tunbridge Wells
15/04/2019: As a vegetarian I was amazed by the authentic Columbian food as much as to say it’s my new favourite food. The colours on my plate were fantastic and the taste was out of this world. Sofia is a great host, very welcoming and fun. Recommend to all my friends.
13/04/2019: Such a fabulous environment. A friendly, happy, lively lady. Good amazing food & we really enjoyed the music & dancing! Such a great concept.

Fuggles Beer Cafe

Culverden, Tunbridge Wells
21/03/2019: Went for a drink with a few mates, temperature and lighting were welcoming, unusual selection of drinks but not bad at all
20/03/2019: As always, a decent beer right up my street. I like dark strong beer and this 10.2% stout fitted the bill perfectly. I’ve been coming here since it opened and it’s my favourite drinking place in Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Sankey's

Culverden, Tunbridge Wells
16/04/2019: I have to confess I must have passed this place thousands of times over the years without it really registering with me. It has to be said the facade is not over inspiring.
12/04/2019: Great selection of decent beers, including the re-born Hofmeister which you really should try!

The Bull Inn

Benenden and Cranbrook, Tunbridge Wells
18/04/2019: Three of tried the special Wiener schnitzel, a dish which is normally crisp. This was piled fashionably high, was soggy and unappetising. Disaster. We have previously enjoyed this pub. Not this time.
14/04/2019: We have visited here many times and, as usual, great food which was delivered well before I finished my first pint!. Quality of food was excellent and hot. Prices are on the high end of pub grub but well worth it. If your in this area then try it, we don’t think you will be disappointed.

Rustic Cafe

Park, Tunbridge Wells
17/04/2019: Go here. It's good. Their sausage plait is what I recommend and their hot drinks are excellent. In the middle of town so very convenient for whatever you have to do.
29/03/2019: Really lovely quirky cafe a bit off the beaten track but really close to the park. Good freshly prepared and they adapted the menu for my dietary needs. Welcoming to children and offered food they could make for them. Would visit again.
