The Poet

Brenchley and Horsmonden, Tunbridge Wells, 20-30£
12/11/2018: Called in without booking with my elderly mother. Very accommodating and friendly. I'm not from the area so had been expecting basic but good pub grub, like many pubs in ten Weald. The food is MUCH better than this. Very good restaurant quality good at reasonable prices. We ate from the fixed price menu, just two courses some wine and coffee and I think the bill was around £60. I will certainly be back!
08/11/2018: First and foremost The Poet is a marvellous venue in the hitherto gastronomic desert around Tonbridge. We visit restaurants primarily for the food and wine but other factors do come into play. This time we went on a Tuesday which is "Steak night" - a superb offer of £39 for two with steak and chips plus a bottle of Malbec so by 7.30pm the modest car park facilities were more or less full. With such tremendous demand, Management need to consider how to obtain extra parking spaces? As we were seated at our wooden table for 4 my knees hit the side and I found that the large X underneath prevented me stretching out my legs. Thereafter I was never really comfortable and that certainly made this visit a little less enjoyable.

Toad Rock Retreat

Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells
11/11/2018: This lovely place, just outside Tunbridge Wells, is well worth seeking out for its delicious home-cooked food (we had Sunday roasts and great pudding). Staff friendly and the place clean and tidy with a nice fire in the grate - perfection!
15/10/2018: My husband and I went with my 82 year old mum. The staff were friendly, welcoming and kind;even offering to bring my mum extra cushions for her seat. We all had roast beef with all the trimmings. All was well cooked and the beef delicious with a good selection of vegetables. Mum was able to have a 'child's' portion. Puddings were just as delicious. A perfect relaxed Sunday lunch. Restaurant was busy and had a lovely atmosphere with friends, families and couples. Recommend booking.

Rendez-Vous

St James', Tunbridge Wells, >100£
29/10/2018: Isn't it always the way - you read wall to wall amazing reviews of a place and then get that tinge of disappointment when it doesn't quite match up to the lofty expectations.
21/10/2018: The service was first class, and the food was excellent, three of our four diners had the special main of the day which was excellent and a good bottle of red to go with it.

Kai's Kitchen

Park, Tunbridge Wells
06/11/2018: Fantastic food served by friendly helpful and glamorous staff. Gets busy so don't expect to turn up and grab a table, book early!
04/11/2018: Well done to Kai's Kitchen coming back after being closed for sometime because of the terrible flood. We buy Greek Salad there for lunch to takeaway, it is so good and much cheaper than Sainsburys. Always fresh and tasty. My colleague had lunch there with friends and had a Thai curry. She loved it, so I am glad I recommended it to her.

Sofias Colombian Kitchen

Park, Tunbridge Wells
04/11/2018: Sofia is a wonderfully generous, warm and fun hostess. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed into her home which was decorated with balloons and banners and Colombian flags. Our group (we booked out the whole place) was a birthday celebration and Sofia went to a lot of effort to make the night special.
07/10/2018: Celebrated my 30th birthday at Sofia’s Colombian Kitchen. She made it a private party of 16 even though she caters for 22 people therefore very grateful of that!

Juliet's Cafe

Pantiles and St Mark's, Tunbridge Wells
10/11/2018: What a great place. Very quirk & mismatch crockery etc.
09/11/2018: We've eaten breakfast at Juliet's a few times and the cakes are great. The coffee is good quality and the service is exemplary, very friendly and efficient staff. The highlight is always the cake choice. I can thoroughly recommend the lemon and poppyseed cake that I enjoyed this visit but I've previously enjoyed the gluten free tropical cake, lots of egg white so very light. I even enjoyed some of my wife's carrot cake, and I'm not normally a fan of that cake.

The Mount Edgcumbe

Broadwater, Tunbridge Wells, 30-45£
04/11/2018: Came in for Sunday lunch as a table of 4 and have to say what a lovely place. The cave is a quirky addition to the pub and as we loved it so much, sat in there before we had lunch. All the staff were great and the food was delightful! I had nut roast and the other three had Lamb. Moreover, I was extremely impressed with the young lady who served us on the bar; I believe her name is Emma. She greeted us with a big smile and recommended a few spirits to try-particularly enjoyed the chapel down vodka and my friend now is obsessed with Curious Brew! On top of this, when it was time to go to our table she kindly came and got us. All in all, The Mount Edgcumbe Pub is a real gem in the heart of a busy town and we can’t wait to come back again.
31/10/2018: A well organised evening involving good communication and planning by hotel team prior and during the event.

Apicius

Benenden and Cranbrook, Tunbridge Wells, >100£
12/11/2018: What a privilege! We decided to have four 'half' dishes and each one was a tribute to taste, attention to gastronomic detail and care. It was a straightforward pleasure and an unforgettable birthday treat for me very gratefully received! Highly recommended
11/11/2018: We discovered this restaurant after trying the other so called Kentish stars (Sportsman, West House etc.) within a reasonable driving distance of Royal Tunbridge Wells. Apicius is a true revelation. It so happened that we also dined at Apicius Paris (not related), but that was many years ago. Here, the Menu allows you to pick full or half courses from four choices, thus making up your "appetizer" from a main course and your main course from an "appetizer". Indeed there are no "appetizers" or main courses here. You can simply choose half or full portions from all dishes of equally weighted importance. What a clever idea! Worth considering by other restaurateurs!

Fuggles Beer Cafe

Culverden, Tunbridge Wells
06/11/2018: All in all, it boils down to friendly service from bar staff that can actually be bothered to say hello and have a chat and are knowledgeable / clean establishment / clean toilets / good music. You can't go wrong at Fuggles - they have a good work ethic which is unusual these days.
17/10/2018: Went to fuggles beer cafe just after had a meal in KITSU sushi and noodle bar.

Arte Bianca

Pantiles and St Mark's, Tunbridge Wells
11/11/2018: After moving to Royal Tunbridge Wells a couple of years ago, this is the place which sees us most. For a good reason: shopping for the finest Italian ham, prosciutto from Parma or Mortadella, all cut paper thin and then packaged most delicately in waxed wrapping paper and individual A4-sized plastic bags, and a vast array of other Italian goodies: rare wines and Flamigni Pannetone from Piemonte. All your shopping may be pleasantly combined with sitting down to eat: the dish of the day, a vast selection of finger-licking tasty pannini, wonderful cakes and the best Italian espresso in town. One cannot find any flaw here except the closing at 5:30pm. One hour more would be most welcome.
17/09/2018: Making our way up from the Pantiles to the top of the town, we decided to grab a quick coffee here.

Red Lion

Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells
04/11/2018: Went on a Saturday night when they had a jazz duo on. It was full but service was good. The food was really well flavoured and fresh tasting, with very large portions. Staff were very friendly and the owner was very hospitable and obviously really cares about providing a great experience. A great addition to Rusthall and worth the trip from T Wells as its easy to park within yards.
29/10/2018: I visited here on a Saturday night with friends as I had heard about the great Thai food. Not only was the food the best Thai food I've ever had but the ambience in the pub was great. They had live jazz playing with an amazing singer along with a pub full of friendly locals. This is a truly lovely village pub with a great atmosphere and the best food !!

Sankey's

Culverden, Tunbridge Wells
11/11/2018: We went here as we know their food and love it but had yet to see this place as no longer a full on pub...
11/11/2018: My girlfriend and I had dinner here on Friday. We are regulars here and also at the fish market which is superb also. Dinner was excellent, we thoroughly enjoyed the fish and chips and also the steak. For starter we had the calamari which I would say was fantastic. Service was very good and the ambience for a meal on a Friday night in a place with a bit of buzz about it was great. Wanted to write a review after this visit as feel this was our best experience here and look forward to returning to eat again soon! Thanks
