The Highwayman Inn

Rhoose, The Vale of Glamorgan, 20-30£
12/11/2018: Make sure you're STARVING before you go. Their portions are huge & the quality didn't suffer. I had the pork cutlet, it was like a T-bone and other had sirloin steak cooked med-rare to perfection. Busy & fitted us in before our flight. Good varied selection on menu and great value. Great service & definitely go back.
11/11/2018: Came for a family meal with a large group to celebrate a birthday. We had to wait for the table, but this was understandable as it was busy. Struggled to order drinks at the table or to get the attention of any of the numerous staff. Service remained slow throughout the meal.

The Market Place

Cowbridge, The Vale of Glamorgan, >100£
12/09/2018: Visited here on a Saturday night with the family. Food was okay, but very ordinary, portions on the small side and overall the experience was disappointing for the money. This place isn't cheap, but really needs to up it's game if it is to justify the money being charged. There are many better options around in the area, this is a place that I suspect has grown complacent and needs to wake up.
11/09/2018: Visitied the Market Place for a friends birthday. Nice decor and not too full on a Saturday evening. Food enjoyed by all, my only issue with this place is the lack of options (ie one) for vegetarians such as myself. This has been a long standing issue and is unlikely to change in the forseeable future. Prices not cheap, but its what you expect for a place like this in Cowbridge. Food was top notch though I must say. Service is good and relaxed. Will return when others in the family wish to celebrate a special occasion at this venue.

Restaurant James Sommerin

Plymouth, The Vale of Glamorgan
11/11/2018: This was our fourth visit, always enjoyed it. The food and service was the best yet. Never fails to be ingenious the staff were excellent, and it was great to chat with James too. We stayed the night, comfortable room and a great breakfast to set us on our way.
10/11/2018: What a pleasure to have one of the best restaurant meals I have had in years, and a 'tasting' menu to boot. For once the six course menu came with good sized dishes and I certainly ended up feeling comfortably full at the end.

Johns Cafe

Baruc, The Vale of Glamorgan
24/10/2018: Regularly visit John's Cafe. Must be the best cafe in Barry, and such value for money. The Sunday Roast is excellent, with great choice, huge helpings, and fast service from friendly staff. Russell,Newport.
21/10/2018: My wife, granddaughter and I had a roast dinner here today. We both had lamb dinners and the baby had some of our veg mashed up. The food was delicious, and served by really good young staff. We also had sponge puddings with custard for dessert. Good no nonsense grub, and excellent value.

Il Vesuvio

Llantwit Major, The Vale of Glamorgan
01/11/2018: Great little Italian. Great atmosphere and food. Service was efficient and it is very reasonably priced. Will definitely be returning again
15/10/2018: I came here with some locals and it didn’t disappoint. The food was great and I had the steak which was perfectly cooked. A nice salad on the side of the steak wouldn’t have gone a mis though as the steak looked rather bare with the side of chips.

Llanerch Vineyard Restaurant

4 offers
Peterston-super-Ely, The Vale of Glamorgan, 20-30£
12/11/2018: Yesterday my husband and I had Sunday lunch at the vineyard. I have to say that the whole experience was fantastic. The service was excellent and the choice was superb. Thank you for a lovely relaxing time.
08/11/2018: An unusual place with a great atmosphere. The food was very good and I would highly recommend a visit.

Nicola's Juice and Coffee Bar

St. Augustine's, The Vale of Glamorgan, <20£
11/09/2018: My family and I have been here for the past 13 years . I highly recommend Nicolas juice bar... it's amazing very clean and friendly. Great place for fresh food and a relax. Nothing is ever too much trouble.
23/08/2018: This is our favourite pier cafe. Hot and cold snacks available plus they have an RSPB badge box for that all important donation. Great for a hot drink on a winter’s day.

Food For Thought

Illtyd, The Vale of Glamorgan
28/10/2018: Popped in on Saturday morning for a baguette, we both had chicken tikka which was lovely, not premixed, but a portion of chicken that was coated, great choice of salad items, oh also had a cheeky shortbread and jam slice that was awesome. Many thanks.
10/10/2018: I had chicken tikka and my gf had coronation chicken. Both were lovely and freshly made. Didn't know about this little gem. Shall return.

St. Bride's Major, The Vale of Glamorgan
26/10/2018: As the restaurant upstairs was full we had to eat in the cellar. The cellar was dark and dingy with only two other people eating there. There was no heating on and it was freezing cold as expect being late October. This meant we sat eating our meals with our coats on. When we complained to the waited there was no apology and he just mentioned that he would shut a door upstairs. The food itself was good but the cold and atmosphere spoiled the experience.
01/10/2018: Restaurant full on arrival- pleased we had booked one Saturday lunchtime. Very friendly service, excellent and varied menu, with standard Italian choices plus 2 course fixed price lunch. I had whitebait (crisp and plentiful) followed by risotto, both of which were perfect. Very impressed overall- will return shortly.

Cowbridge, The Vale of Glamorgan
30/10/2018: We live locally, yet had not previously been here. We had a lovely breakfast, and they were happy to make any amendments to the menu. Lady on duty was lovely, and very keen to know how we found the quality of the food. A lovely little cafe, and we will definitely visit again.
23/10/2018: Visited arboreal last week for a friends birthday meal. We drove up from Swansea and it was well worth the drive.

The Hare & Hounds

Cowbridge, The Vale of Glamorgan
20/10/2018: Everything about the place was fab. From the simple uncluttered rustic feel of the place to the attentive pleasant staff, and the amazing food. We visited with another couple having heard about its excellent reputation and it didn’t disappoint. Homemade bread was brought to the table and then amuse bouche , (beetroot soup with horse radish and homemade cheese crackers) delicious! I had a mackerel starter which was a generous portion, followed by skate, and buttermilk pudding for desert. I cannot overstate how delicious it all was. I just can’t wait to return and am looking forward to trying the new hare and hounds in The Heathcock Cardiff. Thank you for a lovely evening
20/10/2018: Had dinner with 2 close friends last Friday. Food was just stunning. All 3 courses were cooked and presented with consummate skill. I had Lamb and my partner had Skate - both were cooked to perfection. Front of house staff were pleasant, knowledgeable and welcoming. A really great experience

The Six Bells Village Pub & Restaurant

Rhoose, The Vale of Glamorgan, 30-45£
07/11/2018: Me and My Family go all the time food is fantastic, aswell as the service!
06/11/2018: Love this restaurant as it does hand cut chips. Really good fish and chips with apple crumble for dessert. All from the set lunch menu. Very good.

Lamb and Flag

St. Bride's Major, The Vale of Glamorgan, >100£
06/11/2018: Food wonderful, but Oh Dear, the service, or rather the lack of it, soured the whole experience. Although there were only 6 other people in the Restaurant when we arrived we had to wait 15 minutes for the Menus and then we had to rely on 2 locals to point out the 'Specials Board' . At no point did anyone ask if we were happy with our food or offer a coffee to finish and we had ask for our bill at the Bar. Not quite the standard you expect when you're paying £60+ for Supper for two! The quality of the food was excellent and it was lovely to see they allow dogs in the restaurant, but I don't think we'll be rushing back, not with so many other places to eat in the 'Vale'.
01/11/2018: As a family of four eating out can be tricky -two teenagers & 3 vegetarians. Based on previous reviews we visited the Lamb and Flag today and had the best pub meal ever. Every dish was a delight and Glenda was warm, welcoming and a complete delight. We can’t recommend the quality of the food enough. Superb!

Rhoose, The Vale of Glamorgan
24/10/2018: Excellent food here big portions and worth the money. Staff very helpful nice place for a meal or just a drink.....
30/09/2018: Seriously the best meal ive had in ages. Portions was huge butt i ate it all because it was so nice. 2 of the waitresses was great. Deffinately going back again and i would recommend anyone to go there.

The Windsor Restaurant & Tea Rooms Penarth

St. Augustine's, The Vale of Glamorgan
28/10/2018: Love this homely feeling cafe...after visiting in the summer it is now our regular place to go to in Penarth, getting through the vast menu bit by bit, and everything we have chosen is good quality, piping hot. and served with a smile. The coffee/tea is good quality too.
22/10/2018: I eat here regularly. The Windsor caters for customers wanting tea and cake right through to a full 3 course meal with wine. I usually have the roast - a choice of two meats, with roast and boiled spuds, cabbage, peas and carrots with lashings of gravy - always piping hot. Sometimes I go for their excellent salads - the plate is overflowing with healthy stuff. The fish and chips is excellent, as is the Glamorgan ham with parsley sauce - plus the curry with half and half. Always a plateful of deliciousness, whether you go for a sandwich, soup or the full works. Reasonably priced and served quickly by mostly pleasant staff.
