Read's Restaurant

Watling, Swale
13/11/2018: Yet another special dining experience at Reads. The staff are welcoming and attentive. The set menu offers a good range of choices for meat eaters and vegetarians all beautifully presented. Dietary needs are catered for without any fuss. The Blackberry soufflé is a delight to eat. If you want to experience eating excellent food in elegant surroundings Reads is definitely the place to go.
07/11/2018: Don't get me wrong I love Reads but the meal last Friday night was not as good as usual. Service was brilliant my starter was fine, but the fish was slightly dry and overcooked and I did not enjoy my pudding which was comprised a sponge with calvados and apples. I also tasted the blackberry souffle and some of our party felt the same in that it was a bit bland. My partner confided later that he was disappointed too overall and he is a big fan. We will be back but given the cost of the evening meal we expected to be 'delighted'

The Plough Inn at Lewson Street

Teynham and Lynsted, Swale
07/11/2018: Popped in for lunch and ordered scallops to start, which were amazing but served on a cold plate (we mentioned this to the manager and he was happy to pass this onto the kitchen) but this didn’t affect the overall flavour or quality of food. For mains we had steak and ale pie, with homemade chunky chips and selection of veg. Pastry was amazing (my mum is a pastry chef) and was just as good as hers! Beautiful steak and gravy and on point veg! My partner had sea bass, big portion of fish, with beans and new pots, served with plenty of butter, very tasty! We fancied a pudding so ordered plum crumble with custard. The crumble was very very good, homemade, with oats in the crumble topping, would highly recommend! Our waitress Karen was exceptional, brilliant service and wonderfully friendly, thank you! Will definitely come again and we booking for Christmas Eve as Christmas Day is booked!
05/11/2018: We are a U3A group that meets once a month, local to Faversham, for a Sunday roast lunch. Yesterday 13 of us ate at the Plough Inn and we all agreed this was one of the best Sunday lunches in the area. Our food (menu choices preordered), was excellent, the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. Thank you The Plough Inn and Staff. We will be back.

The Carpenters Arms

East Downs, Swale
06/11/2018: A first visit here and we will certainly return. Firstly comfortable chairs to sit on. Not antique uncomfortable chairs that seem all the rage in many places. Service was good and most importantly the meal was first class.
28/10/2018: Very nice Sunday lunch with great company , we all had staters and pudding, all very tasty and fresh vegetables just under £30 pounds a head and that included all our drink.

The Three Tuns

Iwade and Lower Halstow, Swale
08/11/2018: Our visit was for a family birthday and the food was excellent! What’s more, the service was impeccable. We will be back.
06/11/2018: Excellent food and good choice of craft ales, really recommend a visit you will not be disappointed.

The Red Lion at Badlesmere

Boughton and Courtenay, Swale, <20£
29/10/2018: We did not feel like preparing a Sunday meal so decided on our nearest Pub, The Red Lion at Baddlesmere just up the road from home. Booked our table for two. Arrived a littlle early so had the pleasure of a couple of drinks before by the lovelly log fire. When our meal was ready we were seated by one the windows in our table for two. Very cosy. I had the Pork dish which we know is sourced locally and my better half the Beef also sourced locally. My Pork came with a very good appple source and the Beef with a very good Horseradish. We think home made but forgot to ask. The food here is great, cooked to perfection with vegetables the same. Crispy Roast Potatoes and Yorkshire Puddings which are apparantly, Gluten free. Good selection of other vegetables also. The Beer is great and well kept, with a wide selection including Ghost Ship, a favourite of mine. They are the first Pub to stock Gluten free Beers as well, which could be good for a friend of ours who is allegergic. Gluten free seems to be an ever growing trend. The pub is roomy but very cosy and warm. Good size car park and very large garden with outdoor seating and tables. Dog friendly. Access for wheel chairs a bit hampered by the steps and doorways so one would need assiatance. The service is great and friendly. Being totally packed out we only got our table due to a cancellation so booking is sensible on Sunday and advisiable on weekdays due to walkers groups etc. There is a list of events including local bands available. It is so good to have such a gem venue once more nearby and highly recommended.
27/10/2018: What can I say? Not enough words to heap the praise onto this venue that it deserves.

Tom At Twenty One

Queenborough and Halfway, Swale
22/10/2018: Typed in best breakfast in kent and Emily at 21 did not disappoint. The big breakfast was fantastic, so my husband said and the eggs (which were perfectly cooked) and salmon on toast were delicious. We will definitely be returning 😊

Three Horseshoes

Boughton and Courtenay, Swale, <20£
11/11/2018: Quite simply the best roast around and not at a pretentious cost, crispy roasties, fresh veg, flavoursome gravy and a winner of a yorkie 😍
27/09/2018: Time to revisit our birthing Pub. Tragically the previous Land Lady Vera Skipper, recently passed away. It was She and Mike who named us the Wednesday Old Gits Society many years ago, just before they retired. Now Buster keeps the tradion going. Great Pub all round. Lots of entertainment and music sessions with quality artists. Great variety of Food from Goat Curries to Steak & Kidney Puddings and some vegetarian dishes to complete the mix of choices. Some of us Had Singapore Noodles, Others a Goan Curry, Fish Pie, Our Ham Egg Chips surveyor stuck to his guns, and various other super dishes, all delivered on time at the same time. Do not know how they do it in such a small kithchen. Well kept Sheps Beer. They catered for 8 of us diners today and can sweeze more when required. Nice little Garden, parking a bit tight, or park in the road and enjoy a short walk. Cosy old real local Pub with real locals supporting it. Food is Great along with the cheerfull prompt service. Food cooked to order freshly, so a slight delay for main courses as expected. Comfy and cosy with a fire place for winter days and nights. Good atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Plough & Harrow

Borden, Swale, >100£
27/09/2018: We came here on a Thursday evening for a family function and were seated in the upstairs function room. The restaurant is decorated extremely well upstairs and down, making you feel like you're actually in Greece (Especially on a warm summers day!) Authentic Greek Beer and Greek Food, all arrived quickly and tasted devine! I've visited many times but this was the first visit for many of my family members, who fell in love with it just as I did after my first visit! Staff were extremely friendly and chatty. 100% would recommend to anyone!
23/09/2018: Me and partner came here for lunch....Well I was shocked at how nice the food was and how friendly the staff where. Our waitress Freya was very friendly explained whst things in the menu where, recommended the Pink Gin Fizz (which went down very nicely) and the oreo csje for dessert. Will defo be coming back here!!

Tudor Rose

Borden, Swale
08/11/2018: Dropped in for lunch, admittedly without booking but we were there just as they opened at 12.05. We waited at the bar to be served with drinks. There was no one else at the bar but after nearly 10 minutes watching three bar staff looking busy we had to ask to be served. The food service was slow (I think it would have been fine if some one had explained they were busy and there could be a delay). When the food arrived it was hot and good quality but a Pub experience is more than just the food hence only 3 stars.
04/11/2018: Excellent service, food is of top quality. Landlord is very knowledgable and always happy to chat as is his partner. Attended many functions upstairs and buffet is excellent.
