Tuscan Kitchen Rye

Rye, Rother, 45-60£
19/08/2018: On the weekends this restaurant is booked out all night, with no room for walk-ins so this says a lot. We felt very welcomed here and the staff are all fantastic, as expected in a fine dining establishment.
16/08/2018: I saw this on a neighbouring table and had to have it - slices of pear, gorgonzola and walnuts with a honey dressing. Oh, so tasty.

Knoops

Rye, Rother, 30-45£
20/08/2018: Our party of children and adults were all initially blown away by the flavour of both the hot chocolate and the milkshakes we chose, however, the richness soon became very sickly. It’s a shame smaller cups at a lower price were not available as we couldn’t get through them, so a fair amount ended up in the bin. Quality choc fest but consider sharing unless they start to offer smaller sizes.
17/08/2018: Knoops is simply sublime. Whatever you order is made with consistent care. I have visited several times and would recommend it to anyone. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Go there now!!!!

The Curlew Restaurant

Salehurst, Rother, 30-45£
12/08/2018: As soon as you step in The Curlew you know you are in for a good night. Beautiful interior, welcoming staff, divine smells from the kitchen. After you are shown to your table ,which is spacious with comfortable seating, you are handed the pre dinner drinks menu and offered water for the table.
09/08/2018: The starters were careful studies of ingredients v presentation : nothing garish, simple but complex at the same time : the dressed crab for example looked like a Monet but tasted oh so lovely. The main course of hake and halibut were both perfectly cooked. The first course was paired with Woodchurch Classic Cuvée and the main with Montecillo Limited Edition Reserva 2011 both award winners and both were nectars. Let’s not forget the beetroot meringues topped with goats cheese and olive crumb, delightful amuse bouche.

Landgate Bistro

Rye, Rother
18/08/2018: When we knew we were going to be in Rye and having read the reviews we booked Landgate bistro. We are so glad we did. Food service and ambiance were great. Menu is very interesting showcasing local ingredients and everything we tried was cooked to perfection. The bill was also a lovely surprise, amazing value for money we would love to return.
13/08/2018: We had a superb meal here - fantastic standards and if only Rye were a little closer we would be there every week! Really tremendous find outside of London

16/08/2018: Amazing little tea rooms. Best scone I have ever had. Lovely friendly waitress, good service and wonderful value for money. Eat here every time I am in Rye. Wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Webbe's at the Fish Cafe

Rye, Rother
20/08/2018: Lucky people of Rye is all I will say – we have to travel a fair distance for a decent fish restaurant, yet you have this on your doorstep.
17/08/2018: Had an amazing meal here. Best food on our trip. Lobster and steak in blue cheese sauce were sublime. Also shared a raspberry creme brûlée which was delicious. Busy but service attentive.

Mahdi Spice

Rye, Rother
11/08/2018: My husband and I had a lovely meal here last night - we hadn’t booked but the staff were really welcoming and managed to squeeze us in. Had a lovely table by the window. Delicious food and great service. It was very popular but we didn’t feel rushed. Definitely recommend!
09/08/2018: I have been travelling for long throughout India and my team and mates are in Tamil Nadu. I can’t write Hindi but I learnt many words especially about food. Now, mutter or motor as in their menu means green peas. Find out the pictures on google on mutter paneer masala and you can understand by yourself. When I ordered a mutter paneer gravy I was given a sugary creamy buttery sauce with chickpeas in... my Indian friends would be disgusted only in smelling... when I told them this was not mutter paneer but chana (chickpeas) paneer I was taken the piss by the chief staff saying like: no ma’m mutter means green peas and chickpeas in Hindi.... then I was really pissed off.

Bluebells Cafe Tearoom

Battle Town, Rother, <20£
25/08/2018: Not sure what place the last reviewer went to but it wasn't this place. Considering the other reviews I would take the last one with a massive pinch of salt because it couldn't be more different to how they have described it.
25/08/2018: We visited on a busy Saturday after.

The Old Grain Store

Rye, Rother
17/08/2018: We decided to return to this cafe as we were close by at another attraction - we first had lunch here a few years ago on a day trip to Rye. We were thrilled to see that the door-step sandwiches were still on the menu and that the coffees were still strong. There appeared to be a mass stock sale on which made us think that change was ahead but we didn't get the chance to ask staff. We hope the place stays open as we intend on returning again in the future. We love the location and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming.
15/08/2018: Staff are lovely, food was amazing (door stop fresh bread). We popped in around 12:30. One of us had a breakfast, the other a sandwich and the other just a slice of cake. We all had teas and coffees (1 with soya milk).

The Old Town Tea Room

Old Town, Rother
10/08/2018: This place is very quaint and family run. We had afternoon tea and the sandwiches were so tasty - just like my gran used to make! They catered really well for my gluten free requirements! They did not have scones but I have now discovered that hot cross buns go perfectly with clotted cream and jam! The cream and jam were delicious and the tea in proper tea pots and tea cups - I love that! They then had two options for gluten free cakes - carrot cake and New York cheese cakes! Absolutely fab - will definitely be back!
22/07/2018: In a very nice location inside is lovely and quaint . Staff are very friendly and attentive sandwiches were very nice scone was lovely was to full for cake but took it home we will return when in area .

The Union Steakhouse

Rye, Rother, 30-45£
20/08/2018: We decided to pop down to Rye for a mooch around on a Sunday afternoon, arrived at approx midday, daughters wanted the toilet. We decided to stop for a drink somewhere so they could use the toilet, everywhere on the high street was busy. We walked up to the union, hadn’t been there for years, was asked upon entering if we were stopping for food, both daughters said ‘yes’, so the drink turned into lunch!
16/08/2018: I had such a lovely meal, the tenderest steak I remember eating ever, and very tasty. I just wish I had had room for a dessert at well!

Senlac Inn & Restaurant

Battle Town, Rother
25/08/2018: The Senlac is a real friendly pub. Staff are all very helpful and courteous. Food is amazing the Fish and Chips is cooked to perfection, also my friend had the sausage and mash which was also delicious. If you haven’t tried it you need to. Highly recommend.
22/08/2018: Visited last week with family and had an excellent meal. We were all looking forward to dessert but were informed that they had run out of crumble. Cue disappointment from 3 of our diners but the waitress went off to see the chef and advised that he would make them specially for us. I'm told they were wonderful, the right amount of filling to topping and all with a sizeable jug of custard. This place is well worth a visit.

Beryl's Cafe

Eastern Rother, Rother, <20£
20/08/2018: Beryl’s Cafe is situated at Salt Farm and offers a lovely range of food for all tastes. The cafe is fairly small but comfortable and feels very welcoming (dogs included)
12/08/2018: Really good traditional breakfast. The sausages are very good and the brown bread is brilliant. I had the breakfast sandwich which meant I could skip lunch.

The Kings Head

Rye, Rother
16/08/2018: Last minute we decided to go to the king's head and so pleased we were , the whitebait starter was very tasty and we had the pie of the day which was chicken ,ham and leek and the burger, both meals were delicious and large portions that were well presented ! Feeling full up we both said we would resist but when the young lady brought the desserts board we both have in ,the lemon meringue pie was lovely and the trio of ice creams which were orange and ginger ,mint choc chip and strawberry was delicious . It's a shame we were on holiday as we would have definitely liked to have returned !
16/08/2018: Rooms were cosy and clean, the location is ideal and the breakfast was delicious. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone looking to stay around Rye.
