Tuscan Kitchen Rye

Rye, Rother, 45-60£
07/11/2018: I went on a works party to the Tuscan and as a vegetarian was unsure what they would offer me, but we all enjoyed the food and was very full by the end of the evening. Really friendly staff, fantastic service and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely go again.
06/11/2018: I booked this on word of mouth recommendation and am so pleased it was everything I wanted. It has a cosy charm with fabulous authentic Tuscan food and the most efficient and charming staff. Couldn't fault it !

Rye, Rother, 30-45£
07/11/2018: I loved it. I was buzzing after my first one and full warmed up after my second. Very friendly staff and knowledgeable.
02/11/2018: Well who knew there was such a place as a speciality hot chocolate café?! I'm just grateful it is not in my home town as I would not be able to resist a daily visit. The staff were really welcoming to us and our dog, Piper, and so helpful. Once they'd talked us through the choices it was fascinating watching our individual drinks being made. They exceeded expectations too, and the rest of the day was carried through on a sort of chocolatey bliss...great for a rainy Saturday. We intend to return to Rye to explore more and so Knoops will definitely be on our list to revisit.

The Curlew Restaurant

Salehurst, Rother, 30-45£
11/11/2018: My wife and I went for a lunch on Friday 9th November. It was stunningly good!! A warm greeting on arrival and shown to table. The lunch menu was good value and, by the time you’ve had canapés and petit fours afterwards you’re totally satisfied!! The star of the show is the food... the flavours, textures, aromas and presentation are amazing. Every dish was a treat both visually and on the palate..... I genuinely cannot find fault with a single thing..... lovely...../simply lovely
11/11/2018: The quality here was outstanding, the dishes were beautifully presented and everything was prepared with such intensity of flavour it seemed I could distinguish every ingredient.

The Wild Mushroom

Brede Valley, Rother, 30-45£
08/11/2018: The Wild Mushroom tasting menu was superb. The accompanying wines for each course went very well and the food was divine. The only issue we had was that head waiting staff and manager were quite rude. They came across as rather stuck up but other than that the restaurant and experience was excellent.
06/11/2018: Although this is small, from the moment you walk in the door you know this is not just a 'little eatery'. The Staff are very amenable and accommodating - nothing is too much trouble. The relaxed and intimate atmosphere is further enhanced by the excellent food. I have tried so many new foods at this establishment over the time we have visited and have yet to find anything not to my liking. A place I always look forward to eating at.... for the ambiance as much as for the food

The Union Steakhouse

Rye, Rother, 30-45£
05/11/2018: Service was excellent but the food was very disappointing and this was down to the meat (not ideal for a steak house). My ribeye was cooked as ordered but meat was tough and sinewy. Kids steaks were ordered medium but came up rare and again were tough. The steak salad, I felt, would have been better with rump rather than ribeye as the ribeye is too fatty for a salad.
30/10/2018: Ate here on a Monday night after reserving a table the previous day. Friendly staff, good food and atmosphere. What’s not to like. Recommended.

The Royal Oak

Darwell, Rother, <20£
10/11/2018: Nice pub friendly people good food
10/11/2018: Excellent menu and tasty food. Traditional pub environment with log burner and exposed breaks, friendly, helpful staff, prompt service, reasonable prices.

Landgate Bistro

Rye, Rother
12/11/2018: I booked online for Thursday evening, 8th November 2018. We were in Rye with friends for the Bonfire celebrations. We ALL enjoyed the food! Everything we ordered was beautifully presented and tasted incredible!! The scallops were DELICIOUS, as was the duck that I had for my main dish!!! The young servers were friendly, polite and made us feel welcome. The atmosphere was warm, cosy and intimate. It was a great start to our weekend in Rye and was the best meal of the weekend!! We will be back in November 2019!
08/11/2018: We were staying in Rye for the weekend and had booked the Landgate Bistro in advance. Easy to find and not far from one of the main car parks in town the Bistro is in a great location. We received a warm welcome by the friendly staff and made to feel comfortable straight away. The food was excellent... it proved to be one of the best meals we'd had in a while. I don't normally go for fish, as coming from the Midlands things never seem to be quite as fresh, but as we were by the sea I went for the scallops and they were really good. For main course I opted for the Lamb done 3 ways and it was excellent, it was a well designed dish, exactly the right sized portion and full of flavour, letting the quality of the Salt Marsh Lamb shine through. Dessert - just as important as main course in my book, was Vanilla Panna Cotta, served with Poached Plum and was fabulous. Excellent choice of wines, something to suit every palette. Top Marks!

The Cobbles Tea Room

Rye, Rother, >100£
11/11/2018: I believe we came near closing time but the staff made us welcome and we did not feel rushed by them. The scone was delish and I enjoyed the strong tea. I did feel a bit crowded as it is a small place, but the atmosphere was fitting to the lovely and historic town of Rye.
07/11/2018: Unfortunately I did not like this place. It was tiny and tired looking, in need of a revamp. The food was nothing special, the victoria sponge was very dry and the 'luxury' hot chocolate was made with some overly sweet cheap powder, with cream on top. The toilet outside was full of spiders on the ceiling and had no hand wash. It's a shame but I was not impressed with the customer service either. You can only pay by cash but I did not see any signs making you aware of this.

Mahdi Spice

Rye, Rother
10/11/2018: I will never forget the night a curry got me arrested. The curry made me need the toilet so hard and burnt my bum hole. I went so much I knicked a police mans hat and did it there, ended up with a criminal record
30/10/2018: The service was great - attentive, courteous, helpful and efficient. The quality of food was excellent. Every dish had its own flavour (not always the case in other Indian restaurants, particularly with veg dishes). Not at all oily, plenty of meat in main courses. Really tasty variety of dips with the pappadums. And the rice was really light and fresh. Nothing to fault. The restaurant was also busy - even though it was a Monday evening.

Webbe's at the Fish Cafe

Rye, Rother
12/11/2018: There was a creative, flexible seasonal menu at Webbs Fish Cafe. If you love fish then visit here. Delicious food, the best dessert choices I have been offered in a long while. Service fantastic and no added charge. To tip is your choice. Would eat here again. Rye's true gem of a place.
08/11/2018: we was so looking forward to this visit and drove 40 minutes to get here. it was okay. nothing special. nothing good nothing bad just okay. on the evening we visited the restaurant was cold which did not help but perhaps that was just us.

The Old Town Tea Room

Old Town, Rother
22/10/2018: I would like to personally thank Sharon from the old town tearooms, she made my nans 80th birthday fun-filled, and delicious!
18/10/2018: Me and a friend stopped here today for what was an impulsive cup of tea and ended up having lunch!

The Plough

Brede Valley, Rother, 45-60£
26/10/2018: We visited The Plough as we were staying in a Shepherds hut within walking distance and had been recommended it.
26/10/2018: Dined here last week. Very friendly atmosphere. Food very tasty and reasonably priced. We had the Plough burger and the sea bass fillets with chorizo and tomatoes. All served with a smile. Booking advisable at peak times.

Picasso Express

Central, Rother
19/08/2018: Really lovely place, have been before with work which was great as they managed to service all 30 of us quickly, this time though was with the family, they can't do enough for you, waiting staff brilliant, food was perfect and good portion size, excellent value for money. I have the fussiest partner ever and even he was VERY happy!!
13/08/2018: I never like reviewing a restaurant when it is busy. It was not busy when we first arrived but got very busy quickly after. I would probably have given the benefit of the doubt and left a different review if they had apologised for the issue that came up rather than ignore it.

The Ash Tree Inn

Crowhurst, Rother
10/11/2018: Party of four on a Saturday lunchtime. All dishes were very good and the venison exceptional. Service was friendly and efficient. A little off the beaten track but well worth the effort.
04/11/2018: excellent mixed carvery today and the landlord is very friendly fitted us in last minute.. off the beaten track so lots of locals
