Cheese & Cheers

St Jude, Portsmouth, >100£
13/06/2018: We went to cheese and cheers for my partners birthday and it was impeccable. The service was brilliant - they even put a candle in his starter! The food was brilliant and the wine was delicious, and all at a reasonable price! But it was the service that absolutely topped it all off. Will absolutely return.
11/06/2018: It was such a lovely place to celebrate with friends. Delicious food and drink in a very warm and friendly environment. The passion of good food and drink was obvious in the staff, who were always quick to provide extra information on the delights on offer, when asked.

Restaurant 27

St Jude, Portsmouth, 60-100£
19/06/2018: Not what you would expect to find in Portsmouth - not just a meal it's a whole dining experience. Fabulous food and great service, have visited for a few special occasions now and they never fail to impress!
16/06/2018: I’ve been here twice now and each time has been a lovely evening with some truly delicious food. I love that Portsmouth has such a great restaurant in it and that food of this quality is available at such a reasonable price. If you haven’t been here yet - go! I urge you to eat and drink until you’re merry. The little chicken pie course has been my favourite on each visit but the beef short rib on the last visit was also divine and the onion veloute... oh my.

20/06/2018: My first UK experience of Tapas: the food was great, the atmosphere was nice. The staff were friendly. I loved all the different foods. We would come back again, but wouldn't make it a regular thing. Thats all down to personal choice though.
17/06/2018: Had a lovely relaxing experience with 3 generations of our family on Fathers Day. Excellent friendly service. The food was excellent and reasonably priced allowing us all to try something new.

Agora

St Jude, Portsmouth
20/06/2018: We visited agora last week after being recommended by our friends and it was a fantastic choice. I ate the Agora chicken special and it was a lovely, delicious meal. My husband ate the mix grill and loved it. The service was excellent and we were delighted by the customer service and the atmosphere in the restaurant. Would definitely recommend to anyone in Portsmouth.
20/06/2018: We visited the restaurant on Saturday evening (June 16th 2018) with friends who also love Turkish food (but who don't live in Portsmouth) . We just had to share their thoughts because we already know the delicious food, the excellent smiling service and the lively atmosphere, but it was their first "taste", so to speak. Well they were bowled over by it all! We shared a mixed Meze and a set menu (Set Menu 1). To feed a teenager can be a daunting task, but our friends' son simply couldn't get enough of the mix of hot and cold Meze. We followed it up with a shared main course of chicken kebab, lamb chops and shish kebab. They were happy to put it on one lage platter. Additionally they provided a special Chef's salad, which was equally delicious. We finished the meal with a lovely Turkish coffee. All in all, we had a lovely time and were very happy with everything. Our friends were so impressed that they look forward to coming back to Portsmouth! Lucky us, because now we have an even better excuse to return :-)

18/06/2018: Had a set meal which filled us up although we couldn’t get enough of the tasty dishes. Very good staff, attentive and chatty but not when the food arrived, which I like. Would recommend a visit

The Wellington

St Thomas, Portsmouth, <20£
19/06/2018: My wife and I visited this restaurant last Friday evening for dinner, and we find the staff were helpful and the service was also very good, and the menu and specials were varied and they catered for the majority of people, we went for a two course meal and were not disappointed.
18/06/2018: Ate here whilst overnighting before early morning Cherbourg ferry; exploring this fascinating corner of historic Portsmouth. Lovely smart, but cosy, interior with historic regency feel. The Spanish manager was superb and dealt with our Jack Russel terrier with humour and pampering.

Soprano's

St Jude, Portsmouth
21/06/2018: Thought I’d give this place a go based on past reviews, but found it a little disappointing. A restaurant visit isn’t just about the food is it? Other than the name, nothing about this place felt Italian. The staff were pleasant enough but the food was bland at best. I had the sardine starter which came with a salad side and bread. The sardines were passable but strangely missing their tales. The bread good, but no thought given to the salad. Lettuce, diced pepper, sliced onion and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar? The bread came with a couple of those individually wrapped pats of butter too... I’d ordered the tagliatelle with a blue cheese sauce. It looked good, but unfortunately lacked the blue cheese sauce. Regrettably it was undercooked and all but tasteless. The entire experience reminded me of my attempts to make Italian food. I can’t do it justice either. I think the Italians were missing along with the blue cheese.
21/06/2018: I went to this place for lunch with a friend, and we had three courses and drinks for less than £50. The food was superb, as was the service, and I particularly liked the variety on the menu. I will definitely be coming back.

Mother Kelly's

Paulsgrove, Portsmouth
02/06/2018: Definitely worth popping in (although don’t go through the alarmed exit door as you get told off by I assume Madame Kelly). The food is good old fashioned fish and chips - both well cooked and very good portion sizes too. They even have bottles of tartare sauce rather than sachets. Kids and adults all happy
01/06/2018: I have been using Mother Kellys for years and have never been disappointed. The fish is always large and the batter delicious. I love the staff - so friendly and chatty. Would thoroughly recommend.

Spinnaker Cafe

St Thomas, Portsmouth, <20£
19/06/2018: Had lunch in this great little cafe a couple of weeks ago. Went with my godparents who were introduced to this lovely little cafe by friends. Great choice on menu from hearty cooked meals, tasty substantial salads, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and panini. I had a buffalo mozzarella and cherry tomato salad which was delicious and served with tasty homemade coleslaw. We had little pots of ginger ice cream for dessert and pots of tea.
19/06/2018: We needed a place for breakfast after getting off the ferry and this came up on searches. There is parking next door so don't bother walking from Gunwharf Quays line we did!!!

Southsea Coffee Co

St Jude, Portsmouth, <20£
17/06/2018: It's so nice to visit a coffee shop/cafe with a simple & uncomplicated menu. The foods they offer are simply delicious & healthy (apart from the cakes), I had the toasted sourdough with smash avocado etc. & my husband had the pitta with hummus & pesto. It was amazing. We arrived late afternoon & although it was busy when we arrived it soon quietened off, we've tried before & it was heaving so ended up at Costa, definitely not the same. We will definitely visit again.
10/06/2018: Having been here before and enjoyed it so much me and 4 friends decided to go here for a catch up . I’m glad we did , it’s always top class here , food , staff and atmosphere. Our food was so tasty and I want them every day , such a nice place to hang out and have lunch . Definitely recommended if your In The area , vegan cakes are amazing and the salmon meal and the waffle was incredible.

18/06/2018: Sin lugar a dudas este restaurante sirve una comida excelente pero para ser un sitio top necesitaria reformar el local dandole un toque nuevo (moderno o clasico)

The Wave Maiden

St Jude, Portsmouth, <20£
20/06/2018: We first came here a couple of weeks ago for a few drinks & were suitably impressed by the amount of beer choices on keg, cask & bottle, the knowledgeable friendly staff & the look of the place. For our next visit on Father’s Day we came for some food as well as some beer. The food menu is limited but offers full on vegan versions of everything on the menu. If you’re expecting Sunday roasts this isn’t the place to come which is so refreshing – a small taste of the USA is what you can expect. My girlfriend & I chose two of the grilled sandwich options – Reuben (smoked beef brisket) & the Drunken Pig (pulled pork) along with a small portion of chips – all to share.
19/06/2018: I was introduced to the Wave Maiden by friends, we were just popping in for a quick social drink. Ending up staying all evening and ordering food to. I had the chilli which was really tasty. The blackboards with the list of drinks available is great fun to read. The gentleman behind the bar was very happy to give more information and where the beers were brewed. Quirky pub, great atmosphere.
