Verveine Fishmarket Restaurant

Milford, New Forest, 45-60£
09/11/2019: I had known of Verveine by reputation for some time ... We knew what to expect: this is an unusual restaurant which serves a tasting menu which changes daily and is not printed. They just ask if there's anything you don't like or can't eat. Portions are tiny so you choose the six, eight or ten course option, not the usual starter, main, and dessert. Verveine looks quite low-key from the outside, and you walk through the fishmonger shop to reach the restaurant area at the back. The dining room is small, informal, nicely done and utterly unpretentious, ie. no velvet drapes, grand chandeliers or waiters in black tie. The 'eight' we had was about right, but the 'ten' would not have been too much. This is not a place to go if you just want to fill up, its absolutely about quality over quantity. Each course was meticulously prepared and arranged, presented on a variety of eccentric tableware. The unusual flavour combinations were delightful every time, some certainly brilliant in these small servings but perhaps over-powering in a larger portion so you wouldn't normally get them. We opted for their wine-by-the-glass selection to match each course, which was also very good, as you can't pick one bottle that suits everything on a menu like this. Overall experience: expensive, yes, but totally worth it as a special occasion or treat, one to remember. And if you go back next week the menu will be different!
02/11/2019: We had the lunchtime taster menu. Faultless and unforgettable.Lovely atmosphere and staff. Will be back.

Lymington Town, New Forest
06/11/2019: We visit Lymington regularly and lunching at Lanes has never disappointed. Nicola is always welcoming, service is prompt and efficient and the set menu choice is always varied but of a consistently high standard and beautifully presented. The sauces complement the menu options very well and if you decide you have room for a dessert, then the choice is always a treat for the eyes as well as the taste buds. If you want to work up an appetite, then take a leisurely walk around the sea walls and the bird sanctuary before calling in for lunch!
02/11/2019: We had a brilliant celebration for our Mum's 90th birthday. Peter's food was excellent, matched by Nicola's attentive and considerate service. We would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. We had a lovely time at The Lanes and will be returning as soon as possible.

Peggy Mays Cafe

Lyndhurst, New Forest, <20£
06/11/2019: We had a lovely breakfast in Peggy Mays Cafe last week. Fresh and tasty. Staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Our two dogs were very welcome. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area
06/11/2019: A warm welcoming place the staff were so friendly and happy, always a good sign. The food is very reasonably priced, everything is home made and fantastic. We had a nice leek and potato soup with bread from the local bakery, a big pot of tea and a massive piece of home made carrot cake to share, which was fantastic.

The London Tavern

Ringwood North, New Forest
10/11/2019: I booked a table for my family for my birthday. We all had roasts- pork, lamb, nut roast and beef (loved that a varied selection was available!) and the children had sausages and nuggets. We all commented on how lovely the roasts were, lots of veg, huge yorkshire pudding and the beef was cooked to perfection! Best roast we’ve all had in a pub. Puddings were also delicious.
10/11/2019: Had a lovely meal here with Family, we all had a roast and a dessert to finish. Top quality food and great service would return and highly recommend.

The Elderflower Lymington

Lymington Town, New Forest
05/11/2019: Couldn’t recommend The Elderflower enough, the staff were amazing and the food was faultless, definitely going to schedule another visit!
04/11/2019: Fantastic birthday treat! My kind of food! Some tweaks to make perfect but great all the same. Comfier seats would be top of all our wish lists great service fab look loved the works of art love the energy drive and creativity gone into the food we love taster menus as no overflowing plates of slop and gravy! Love the anticipation. For us four the consensus of the two things that our palettes didn’t like were the lobster course very very strong flavour a bit overpowering and the cigar too smoky (!) flavour and too rich a fondant/mousse. Everything else exceptional! Keep up the good work.

La Perle

Milford, New Forest
06/11/2019: We visited here early last Thursday evening and initially we were the only diners but others arrived as we dined. We booked Thursday as it is Steak night and my husband wanted a well cooked steak. We had been told that LaPerle was the best place locally for well cooked steak . Wide choice of cuts from the cheapest to Chateaubriand . My husband chose the Rump steak medium cooked which was accompanied by twice baked chips and peppercorn sauce. I had the turbot, a huge fillet which was served on spinach and crushed new potatoes with a delicious lobster bisque . Both courses were well cooked and presented and enjoyed. Initially my husband had the sour dough bread and butter, a huge portion with four slices of bread and lots of butter. For dessert I chose the chocolate fondant and my husband the Purbeck chocolate chip ice cream with a crumble type topping below. Both courses were enjoyed and the young gentleman waiting and greeting front of house was very attentive. Limited choice of menu with Steak, lobster, fish or Tortellini on offer but preferable as all made to order. Highly recommended.
29/10/2019: So, just had my anniversary meal at La Perle, 2nd year in a row (although a day early as my girls have plans back at home tomorrow!) Wow, wow, wow! It was their French tasting menu tonight, so you can chose between 3, 4 or 5 courses all at a reasonable price but a set menu. We informed them when booking and upon arrival that not only was I coeliac, but I was also a vegetarian. They couldn't do enough for us. My meal was as close to my hubbies as possible and tasted absolutely delicious - I couldn't eat it all! Highly recommended! X

The Thai Corner Restaurant

Dibden and Hythe East, New Forest, 20-30£

The Monkey House

Buckland, New Forest, >100£
09/11/2019: Just visited The Monkey House - the first since change of ownership a few months ago and very happy to say the food and service were excellent as usual. Myself and three friends who were visiting for the weekend all thoroughly enjoyed our choices. The pub has a lovely cosy log fire and very relaxed atmosphere. I will be back shortly.
09/11/2019: The Monkey House staff made us very welcome and gave us exceptional service during our 3 night stay. Our evening meal was delicious too and would thoroughly recommend anyone to visit this warm and friendly pub

The Royal Oak Pub

Forest North West, New Forest, <20£
06/11/2019: My partner and I were staying locally in the New Forest for a short break and passed this country pub on a couple of occasions. Unfortunately, each time we passed, it was closed. On our third attempt we discovered it open and decided to have our evening meal. Well, it was certainly worth the wait. The decor and ambience was cosy and inviting. We had a warm greeting from "Guinness" the 14 week old black labrador. I had the mulled wine which was delicious. We had breads and dips to share; crayfish cocktail to start and lamb as the main course. The food was superb! Excellent value for money too! If we were ever in the vicinity again I would definitely pay this little find a visit. Highly recommend!
27/10/2019: We were the first to arrive on a Wednesday lunch time in October but within half an hour it was buzzing with locals so we guessed it must be popular. The food was delicious, portion sizes generous. We just had starters and mains as we were full. Staff were very friendly. Wish I lived nearer so I could go again. We then got our bike out the car and cycled through the village to see the ponies. Great afternoon,

Rosie Lea Tea House & Bakery

The Crown Inn

Hordle, New Forest, >100£
11/11/2019: First meal for two of us at this location, simply outstanding quality for what could have been a simple roast. Requested beef to be rare achieved exactly that, generous portions, gravy must be a chef secret ! All perfectly cooked and presented. But what makes this inn so different? The owner,Charles, leads from the front bringing a caring attitude, significantly above his competitors, to any customer who walks through his door. Helped by an excellent team in support it is so refreshing to discover such a perfect place on our doorstep. We encourage anyone to benefit from such all round quality.
06/11/2019: The food was delicious and staff excellent My daughter and I are here on Monday evening and the whole evening was supero superb.

Imperial China

Lyndhurst, New Forest
03/11/2019: Our first visit since new management. Not impressed. Staff were lovely and service good. The food however not so good. The set menu for four barely had sufficient food for four people and was not very hot . And what has happened to the little bowls?. Also we had to ask for chopsticks.
19/10/2019: We had a lovely vegan meal from the wide menu and everything we had ('duck' in oyster sauce, sweet and sour vegetables, seaweed, Singapore rice noodles, and rice, followed by lemon sorbet) was delicious. The staff were very nice, helpful and engaging. A very nice evening for my Dad's birthday, thanks!

The Village Coffee Pot

Milford, New Forest, <20£
05/11/2019: This little gem never fails to impress.
29/10/2019: We stopped off for some lunch on our way to Hurst castle.

The Greenwood Tree

Lyndhurst, New Forest
06/11/2019: Situated near the car park in the high street this cafe has a lovely menu and very tasty coffee. The service is excellent and food and drink top quality.
15/10/2019: We stopped in here for a drink after a walk around the New Forest. Clearly a popular option with several large family groups dining. We both had a smoothie and shared a slice of cake (as it was massive). Very nice and would be happy to return again.

Bistro 26

Brockenhurst and Forest South East, New Forest
08/11/2019: First things first - the food was scrumptious. We had some starters and a great salad between 2 of us. There was plenty of food. Great mix of taste and spice.
05/11/2019: We had three mains between two of us and it was probably a little too much as we had rice as well. The food was stunningly good with none of the "they all taste the same" feelings. We like spicey food and even the ones marked with two chili were quite warm. The sea bass was excellent. The master of the house has a lovely quirky style and makes for added fun. Altogether a wonderful evening started by a glass in the Sett opposite which we will return to and eat another time
