The Fig Tree

Hurstpierpoint and Downs, Mid Sussex
15/03/2019: Love this place, small, friendly, great food, great wine list, what more do you need ? See you again soon
10/03/2019: I took my fiancé here to celebrate his birthday and it didn’t disappoint. Good service, really nice staff and lovely ambiance- the lighting is perfect. The food was beautifully presented and tasted fresh. My finance had the sirloin steak and I had monkfish. The goats cheese tart and scallop starters were delicious and portion sizing was just right. We thoroughly enjoyed the desserts. We felt the pricing was reasonable considering the standard of food we had. The only suggestion would be slightly more vegetarian options on mains and slightly quicker service- although we appreciated prolonging the experience a bit. This is an ideal restaurant for a special occasion or nice evening out and we hope to return one day!

Cat Inn

High Weald, Mid Sussex, >100£
16/03/2019: Have visited the Cat a few times now and decided to go here for my husband's birthday lunch. Food was exceptional I had chalk stream trout which was just delicious and my husband had a cod dish with mussels which was without fault. Portion size just right and beautifully presented. The chocolate fondant was incredible the best I've ever had. Definitely will be back before too long.
15/03/2019: Special venison dish for lunch was delicious. Wonderfully cooked and presented. However, it amounted to a few mouthfuls. Don't go there for lunch if hungry. Left us feeling hungry and cheated. Service was professional but robotic.

Jeremy's at Borde Hill

Cuckfield, Mid Sussex, >100£
18/03/2019: We visited Jeremy’s for dinner with friends. The bar area is a little on the small side & once 6 people are seated it becomes quite crowded. However we all had a super meal. Both fish dishes were superb.
17/03/2019: Arrived, it’s part of a centre and large assertive signs in the car park to ensure you only park in designated spaces.

Gravetye Manor Restaurant

6 offers
High Weald, Mid Sussex, 20-30£
17/03/2019: First time in the new restaurant, much improved over the gloomy wood panelling in the old dining rooms. The new room sits neatly in the space at the back of the building, with a great view of the gardeners at work.
15/03/2019: My wife and I recently had afternoon tea here. A lovely countryside location and lovely old manor house, in a beautiful garden setting. Parking here is easy. One feels immediately welcome, as soon as they reach the front door entrance. We were allocated a nice corner table, with extremely comfortable seating, in one of the several very nicely furnished lounge areas. The decor here is delightful. The service was polite and attentive. The windows are set quite high, so unfortunately views out across the landscape are only fully appreciated when one is standing. The choice of teas available, including herbal brews, is extensive. My wife had Assam and I had Rooibos, which were brought to the table in large silver tea pots that kept the tea hot for the duration of our sitting. Both teas were really good quality in terms of taste (the best Rooibos I have ever had). The traditional food choice provided a layer of varied sandwiches (all top quality), amazing glazed sausage rolls, four enormous scones with clotted cream and locally produced fruit jam (really nicely made), and top layer of varied cakes. More than enough for our appetites, although were were offered more of any particular item, including the tea, if we wanted (we actually got four cups of tea each, which was quite adequate and we had to take away uneaten food - they provide cartons for this purpose). Our only negative observations were that the cakes were a bit lacklustre in comparison with other venues we have been to, and the service charge added to the bill was a surprise. We would have willingly given our waitress a tip, but this billing method leaves no choice.

Dal Nonno

Crawley Down and Turners Hill, Mid Sussex, 20-30£
18/02/2019: Very family friendly and excellent food
11/02/2019: We all celebrated my mother's 80th birthday last Saturday at Dal Nonno's. We hear reccomendations all the time through friends and colleaugues at work and this was our first visit. This place was honestly as close to Italy as you will find...the food the staff and the overall atmosphere was unlike anything locally I have found. Great home cooked food, relaxed lighting, staff that clearly love working there and a really fun atmosphere even though they were packed to the rafters!!! I guess this says it all and is greatly wasn't just a meal it was an occassion and we all loved it 5 stars from all 8 of Arnie says WE'LL BE BACK!!!!

The Gurkha

East Grinstead Town, Mid Sussex
17/02/2019: Read some good reviews about this place so thought I'd give it a go tonight, so ordered a takeaway. Having arrived a very friendly couple greeted me, collected my food and left (very good price I might add). The peshwari was demolished in the car on the drive back, was perfect (so many places get this wrong). Once home tucked into the mushroom rice, tarka dal, chicken rifle. All absolutely delicious, will be back.
12/02/2019: Visited with friends for an early evening dinner. Starter a little ordinary but buffet choices for main course excellent. Good variety , nicely cooked and tasty. Would return.

The Farmyard Kitchen

Crawley Down and Turners Hill, Mid Sussex, <20£
13/12/2018: I found this hidden gem on TripAdvisor and went there for an early breakfast today. Debbie was the cook and provided a very large English breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausage, black pudding, mushrooms, tomatoes, hash browns and fried bread) plus a large cup of filter coffee for £10. Great food and great value.
11/12/2018: Simple and tasty breakfast. We visited the farm as a family of mine and all had breakfast in different ways. A varied menu with plenty of choice

Limes Bistro

Lindfield, Mid Sussex, 20-30£
16/03/2019: We were given a voucher for this restaurant as a Christmas present and used it for our Anniversary lunch. It quite a small little Bistro, very pleasant decor and a good choice of food. We had the three course set meal which was delicious with wine and coffee. The service was very good and the waiter was very pleasant and welcoming. It isn't expensive and we will be going back again.
12/03/2019: What a lovely little restaurant-Modern & inviting and a cosy atmosphere. Our waitress was polite and very friendly and the food was fantastic! We loved the Asian inspired dishes on the menu, we were even given some tasty little sample dishes to try.

Tory's Cafe

Haywards Heath Ashenground, Mid Sussex
13/01/2019: Small and friendly cafe in the park with an imaginative menu, good coffee and easily the best vegetarian breakfast we have ever had.
14/12/2018: Got to be one of the best cafes in Sussex... delicious food including sandwiches, ciabattas, salads, jacket potatoes and amazing freshly baked cakes. Highly recommend the vegetarian breakfast, and booking one of their afternoon teas...both incredible. Really lovely place with very friendly staff too. Go, you won't regret it!

The Fox Eating and Drinking House

High Weald, Mid Sussex, 20-30£
19/03/2019: We were in the area and popped in for a family Sunday lunch. It doesn’t look much from the outside, but it’s got a cosy and welcoming feel inside. The carvery was great, meat beautifully cooked, with generous portions. Puddings were great too, and prices were reasonable across the board. The staff at the carvery and in the bar were extremely friendly and helpful. We’ definitely be back.
16/03/2019: Any small local village would be proud to have this level of cooking as the local.

The Ginger Fox Public House

Hurstpierpoint and Downs, Mid Sussex
25/02/2019: A really excellent team makes a lovely pub, so the decor, drink and food are simply another bonus. First visit was for a Monday lunch and the whole thing was just great.
10/02/2019: Six of us met up for a catch up over Dinner we all enjoyed our respective meals very much everything was how it should been from presentation to taste Try the crispy honey sprouts as a picky to start with!!

The Oak Barn

Cuckfield, Mid Sussex
12/03/2019: We travelled down from Cheshire to visit family and wanted a good restaurant for a family meal, we made a good choice! We had a table upstairs in the gallery and were looked after by a lovely waitress called Carrie, she was very bubbly and knowledgeable about the menu and looked after us so well.
09/03/2019: Our usual meeting place with friends of over 70 years - we are now in our mid 70s. The restaurant is friendly clean with a welcoming log fire in winter and a lovely courtyard for summer eating. The staff are always happy helpful and efficient very attentive and the food always excellent. We live in Littlehampton and our friends in Tonbridge so a central venue - worth the journey. Thank you

Crawley Down and Turners Hill, Mid Sussex, >100£
16/03/2019: Fantastic food and service from Jahan and his team. The food is always hot and tasty and the team are attentive providing a great service.
12/03/2019: Lovely food and lovely service would definatly recommend. Lots of choice on the menu thoroughly enjoyed my evening there

Jupps Fish & Chips

Burgess Hill Dunstall, Mid Sussex
19/03/2019: Been going to Martin's for years, he always has the customers interest and gets the food right first time, even when he's done it for 50+ at charity nights, Thanks!
05/03/2019: Finally gluten free fish and chips. Wow they were delicious. The batter was lovely and crispy. Thank you Martin.

Thai Siam Restaurant

East Grinstead Town, Mid Sussex
17/03/2019: Delicious Thai cooking and attentive polite staff makes this traditional Thai a culinary must-stop for East Grinstead. We visited for the Sunday Buffet which is a bit misleading as it is actually an 'order as many courses as you want' from the buffet menu with personal service with table service. All the freshly cooked dishes were delightful and the cover of the menu starts the meal with a smile. Great value at £15 a head. We got to try lots of different dishes because of it.
15/03/2019: Dropped by here for dinner on a Wednesday evening, very quiet buts lots of people calling in for take-aways. Staff welcoming, friendly and attentive as usual. The mixed starter is always a good choice for 2 people followed by the ginger prawns and the weeping tiger beef. Coconut rice and thai noodles complemented the dishes perfectly. Always a great meal here, highly recommend.
