The Fig Tree

Hurstpierpoint and Downs, Mid Sussex
12/06/2019: This restaurant is a gem. Great service, great food and great wines. We were just in for a lunch on our way form Ridgeview to Brighton, but this just a very enjoyable experience. With a detour!
09/06/2019: We had a beautiful evening celebrating a birthday and wedding. The staff were extremely helpful ,friendly, relaxed and knowledgeable about the food and wine. The food was spectacular, perfectly seasoned and looked beautiful. We loved everything, couldn't fault it. Thank you for wonderful experience The Fig Tree

Cat Inn

High Weald, Mid Sussex, >100£
18/06/2019: We have been wanting to visit the Cat Inn for some time and hadn't got around to it. At Christmas I won a silent auction for dinner for 2 at the Cat at a local event.
12/06/2019: A lunch prior to a flight out of Gatwick proved to be exceptional .Home made bread , crispy squid and a fabulous slow cooked belly pork were matched by the welcome of the lovely staff .Good choice of wines by the glass Will be back .

Gravetye Manor Restaurant

6 offers
High Weald, Mid Sussex, 20-30£
13/06/2019: My wife and I stayed overnight @ Gravetye and had both dinner and breakfast in their restaurant. The food was superb! We had glorious views of the gardens and the service was exceptional. As we were leaving we saw a large group gathering for lunch. If I lived nearby I would do that on a regular basis! I would consider it a great place for a special gathering. The gardener and the chef collaborate on unique items grown in the kitchen garden. Do not miss the ever changing menu items. ‼️
09/06/2019: Lunch at Gravity Manor was perfect for our family celebration as it would be for any special event. We enjoyed the taster menus with both veggies and omnivores having an excellent selection of seasonal dishes. We all absolutely raved about the Soufflé with gooseberry coulis and stem ginger ice cream and I thought that the Cured Newhaven Brill with radish, cockles, caviar and sesame dressing was another standout dish. We look forward to trying a standard menu on some other occasion.

Jeremy's at Borde Hill

Cuckfield, Mid Sussex, >100£
18/06/2019: We moved to Haywards Heath 2 years ago and this restaurant came up on our radar as a place to eat. Finally got round to visit on Sunday. Can't really see what the fuss was about. The dining area we were sat in was small and not as 'full of character' as I'd read in the reviews. The waitresses were very young and some were being trained, badly, as the service went on. The offer of bread was welcome but didn't deliver. The walnut bread was heavy and tasteless. Sour dough better, just. The amuse bouche was lovely and tasty but then came the starters. The soup was bland and my wife didn't even get half way through before giving up. When the waitress cleared the plate she asked if we enjoyed our started but never questioned why my wife had left hers. I ordered the monkish cheeks which was like two bits of scampi with prawns and some non-descript, under-seasoned sauce and none of the elements went together. Rather odd.
14/06/2019: Visited for an old friends reunion. Food quality was superb, wine options were fantastic and the location was peaceful. I would say that those with "Restricted pallates" (Fussy eaters) may not be so warming to the menu but those who are it is a great opportunity to try something you may not usually. Already making plans to visit again!

Dal Nonno

Crawley Down and Turners Hill, Mid Sussex, 20-30£
10/06/2019: We arrived as a family to celebrate a birthday. We had received good reports and were not disappointed. The menu is extensive and there was also a three course option which was good value, truly something for everyone. Some went a la carte and others for the set menu, we all had plenty to choose from. The open kitchen is at the rear of the restaurant and adds to the atmosphere which was warm and friendly, although I suspect it might get a little noisy if the place was fully booked (which it often is at the weekends). We just need an excuse to go back which we will.
08/06/2019: We ate at this cute eatery prior to our flight to Italy early the following morning. we managed to get a later table on a very busy Saturday night and wow this place rocked with great service and food to match. this place will be on our future list of must eat places prior to our next holiday from Gatwick.

The Thatched Inn

Hassocks, Mid Sussex
27/04/2019: The quality and size of the food portions here is very high!! Walked in slightly dubious about the restaurant due to the lack of variety of customers and dated decor but I really was pleasantly surprised. food was very well cooked and in a very generous portion size. I’d recommend the pork belly. Very happy and would definitely visit again.
18/04/2019: We had Sunday lunch here with two elderly relatives who are local and are regulars. I'm not surprised it's their favourite restaurant. Service was friendly and efficient, and there is an extensive menu of great pub food.

The Farmyard Kitchen

Crawley Down and Turners Hill, Mid Sussex, <20£
05/06/2019: We were staying at a nearby hotel and decided to try this for breakfast. Difficult to find as the directions from Trip Advisor via Apple maps are wrong. We eventually found it by searching for Grange Farm in Google maps. Glad we did as we enjoyed a very tasty find breakfast sat outside in the morning sun. Much better and cheaper than the hotel buffet!
31/05/2019: We asked them to come over to our office and feed 60+ staff for lunch treat. They cooked in time for requested starting time, and foods were delicious. Beef Burger is their signature one and must have. If any company is looking for mobile foods van in their car park, I strongly recommend The Farmyard Kitchen. Everyone will be surely happy.

Crawley Down and Turners Hill, Mid Sussex, >100£
14/06/2019: Indian food is not my cuisine of choice, but we were recommended to go to Tarana's by our hosts, so could not easily refuse. It being entertainment night we were looking forward to see what was on offer. The restaurant was rather full as we arrived at 7.30pm. Very noisy with many birthday celebrations going on. There were a pair of fixed price menus available, £45.00pp or £55.00pp, with choices from the "a la carte" bill of fare. Poppadoms and relishes to open then a fixed mixed starter before your individual choices from the menu. All dishes were well presented and tasty. The entertainment turned out to be a belly-dancer and an Elvis impersonator. Both were great. When we asked for the bill the owner/manager knocked £10.00pp off the bill and gave us a digestif drink. Very civilised. We all agreed that it had been a great evening out and would go back in the future.
13/06/2019: From the exterior, one cannot guess how extraordinary the food will be, not to mention the warm ambiance and pleasant service. The restaurant is quite large, and the servers were busy but quite attentive. My Chicken Tikka was deliciously juicy and flavorful, as were the saag bhaji, raita and peshwari naan. Portion size was enormous and I deeply regretted that I couldn't take leftovers home with me as I was taking a plane the next morning. If in the neighborhood, I will most definitely return here.

The Gurkha

East Grinstead Town, Mid Sussex
18/06/2019: Tried this place for the first (and last) time last week, booked a table, one of only three tables occupied at the time, sat down, and ordered. Companion's meal arrived, it took the staff 5 minutes to realise mine had not, they appeared shortly thereafter, full of apologies..........with the WRONG order (not even close) and without rice! Again, more apologies, they returned after another 5 minutes with the correct dish, still without rice! By this time of course, my companion had finished her own meal and I was so hungry, I eat what was presented. The food itself was BLAND in the extreme, any 'awards' this place appear to hold, I would be highly suspicious of. The agony wasn't over, when the bill arrived, we were shocked to have been charged for items we had neither ordered, nor received .... including the aforementioned rice! OK, not the attempted fraud of the century, but a real kicker after such a disappointing meal. The decor is dark and grubby and stuck in the 70's, looks like everything needs a good wash.... including the staff. NEVER again!
05/06/2019: great service, good food good menu at great prices.. gets full most nights so book before you visit very cosy

Jupps Fish & Chips

Burgess Hill Dunstall, Mid Sussex
18/04/2019: Excellent GF fish, light fluffy and delicious! The best I have ever had, would like to have it one more time before I head back to Canada!
20/03/2019: Always freshly cooked, always friendly service - best fish & chips in Burgess Hill. Martin & the team couldn’t be more helpful.

The Oak Barn

Cuckfield, Mid Sussex
04/06/2019: Impressive and atmospheric building and a lovely place for a drink, particularly in winter with the fire burning. However, the food is on the average side in our opinion and quite pricey. Other diners seem to like it so perhaps it’s just us!
02/06/2019: I was part of a large group, the starter of fish cakes was really nice followed by one of the nicest Sunday Roasts that I have had out in a long time, the lamb was tasty and not fatty at all, veg was plentiful and the cauliflower cheese was delish. The staff were friendly and accommodation and take a great group photo, thank you for being part of making our family celebrations enjoyable!

Thai Siam Restaurant

East Grinstead Town, Mid Sussex
14/04/2019: A great value buffet lunch, each dish from the menu is cooked to order, we especially loved the spicy coconut soup
20/03/2019: We’ve had a few takeouts from here not yet been inside to eat although the restaurant looks stunning inside. The food is to die for. A real treat for us. Can be expensive if your like us and want to try a little of everything. They do all you can eat buffet during the week I believe and keep meaning to find the time to come inside and eat. We’ve recommended to friends and family who are now regular customers. Big foodie thumbs up from me

The Fox Eating and Drinking House

High Weald, Mid Sussex, 20-30£
05/06/2019: Called in after a local walk. Greeted with a warm welcome and a good menu. Opted for the gnocchi with mushrooms and spinach and a side of chips. I really, really enjoyed the meal.
04/06/2019: On a Business trip in the UK and my first trip here, I was delighted by the food and the warmth of the welcome . I can only recommend

The Ginger Fox Public House

Hurstpierpoint and Downs, Mid Sussex
16/06/2019: Returned to Ginger Fox for a joint celebration of a friend's 60th and our anniversary. Had the best meal of 2019 without doubt so hats off to the team there.
15/06/2019: The Ginger Fox is an attractive thatched building with several tables in the garden in addition to the restaurant inside. As it was a warm, sunny day we chose to sit in the garden which also has a children’s play area. Both the garden and the car park were soon full so get there early. The menu was on a blackboard which was moved around the garden as required. The food was perfectly cooked and well presented and service efficient and friendly. This was my first visit to one of the Ginger group restaurants and it was easy to see why they have such a good reputation locally.

Balcombe Tea Rooms

Ardingly and Balcombe, Mid Sussex
08/06/2019: Chris & Maria the owners are lovely people, so kind and accommodating, we have been visiting their tea room on a regular basis for the past 12 years, they have seen us bring up our children from new borns. Today they provided us with afternoon tea for 26 guests for a party back at our home. All our guests loved the food and said how amazing it was, we was only to happy to tell them all to visit the tea room for the best homemade food and scones around.
10/03/2019: Lovely cooked brunchof eggs bacon and a bowl of proper chips toast and a
