The Yew Tree

Four Marks and Medstead, East Hampshire
04/11/2018: Met a friend at The Yew Tree on Friday for a catch up over dinner and had a lovely evening. The food and wine are good, as is the service and the atmosphere is lovely. Would highly recommend to anybody who is looking for a comfortable country pub.
29/10/2018: My aunt, so and myself had Sunday lunch at The Yew Tree. The meal was usual. Two of us had the roast lamb which was gorgeous. The lamb was succulent and the veggies were just perfect. My son had shoulder of lamb and says it was wonderful. We finished off with desserts. Although it was busy, the service was polite and attentive. The Yew Tree is already a favourite place and will continue to be so. We heartily recommend it.

Rose and Crown

Downland, East Hampshire
27/10/2018: We had a fab dinner with friends here on Friday night Such a cozy pub with the fire going The staff here are so lovely and welcoming and the place is just buzzing on an Autumn evening The menu has changed quite a bit since we were last here with partridge , venison pie , and a really interesting apple dessert It was lovely to be met by jolly lovely staff who were genuinely interested in you having a nice evening
20/10/2018: I’ve been here 3 times - the food is really good, the garden is beautiful but every time I’ve had ‘attitude’ from the older lady behind the bar. There is no smile, no welcome, no ‘how can I help you?’ or ‘how was your meal’. The first time we visited, we sat at a table outside. I approached the bar with a smile, expecting a nice welcome but there was none. When I tried to order food, she asked me which table number I was sitting at and stupidly I hadn’t realised I needed to take note. I explained that I was on the very last table at the end of the garden and she replied sniffily that there were lots of tables at the end of the garden. So I had to walk all the way to the table to see the number and all the way back to the bar (there IS only one table at the very end of the garden!

Petersfield St Peters, East Hampshire
04/11/2018: Tucked away down a little alleyway is this wonderful hidden gem which oozes atmosphere and spirits you to the little cafes in Istanbul. Food is promptly served and absolutely delicious and I'd particularly recommend the chef's platter which gives a great cross section of the various delicious starters.
01/11/2018: Lovely HIDDEN GEM! Visited on Halloween night. Had a delicious dinner served by the most friendly food server, Ella. Wonderful meal & service and look forward to our next. Thinking of trying it for breakfast, too.

Malabon Tandoori Restaurant

Petersfield Heath, East Hampshire, >100£
03/11/2018: Great food, lovely flavours, very friendly service, very good atmosphere, great value!
06/10/2018: Delicious authentic Bangladeshi food. High quality, great value for money. Friendly, polite, attentive staff (without being too intrusive). The food was full of fresh flavours, great balance of spices. Highly recommend this restaurant, most definitely the best Bangladeshi restaurant in the area. Strongly advise booking.

Applegarth Farm

Grayshott, East Hampshire, 30-45£
15/10/2018: When family visit we tend to go out for breakfast to some local venue and recently discovered Applegarth Farm. They justifiably boast about the quality of food and we were not dissapointed. I can confidently recommend a visit, you will love it!
03/10/2018: Outstanding! The service is wonderful. The food is delicious. The whole place is welcoming and comfortable. I strongly recommend a visit.

Petersfield Heath, East Hampshire, >100£
02/11/2018: One of the nicest rooms I've dined in - tables nice and wide apart; lovely view of the village outside; bright and friendly. And both food and drink are excellent; begin with a Bellini; scallops and salmon both fantastic starters; my grouse was perfect and friends enjoyed the monkfish and the lamb, described as "out of this world". How lovely to see a wine list with single glasses of several different varieties (so often single glass drinkers are despised). Superb service; delightful lady, knowledgeable and friendly. Good parking; all in all, a great success. I shall return.
02/11/2018: Just returned from JSW. Fabulous 8 Course Tasting Menu and Wine Flight + overnight stay and continental breakfast - fantastic value. Quite apart from that the food was wonderful, the wines excellent and the service of a high standard. A complete joy.

Royal Oak

Holybourne and Froyle, East Hampshire
01/11/2018: The Royal Oak in Lasham is tucked away but well worth seeking out. The a la carte menu is backed up by a great value lunchtime set menu. Everything seemed to be very fresh and just after halloween pumpkin soup seemed very fitting! Great pub
14/10/2018: We are very pleased with finding this pub, and had no idea somewhere so good was close-by to us. The presentation and maintenance of the exterior and interior are immaculate; you can tell when driving up to it that it is a well-looked after establishment with high standards. Inside the decor was incredibly pleasing - it has all been very carefully planned out, from the chairs and tables, to detail with the many accessories, art-work and flowers. Everything looked incredibly clean and very welcoming, a genuinely comfortable and thoughtfully designed environment. We were welcomed immediately and the service throughout was about the best I've received in any pub. Tables were set ready for dining, with absolutely glossy spotless cutlery and glasses. The theme I felt throughout was about 'standards', and there was no doubt that those responsible for the day to day running of this establishment have clear views about the type of experience they want customers to have, from arrival to leaving. The day we were there it was adults-only groups eating, and a nice calm and quiet environment without obtrusive music playing (hurrah!). There are larger tables, in their own slightly private areas, but mostly there are smaller tables for couples and groups of 4 in the main room.

The Village Tea Rooms

Headley, East Hampshire
09/11/2018: I went to the tea rooms at the Headley Village Stores. I was served by Glen who could not have been more friendly and attentive. My full English was definitely the best I had ever had!
08/10/2018: Stumbled across this tea shop while out walking in Headly. What a welcome sight. We had a very tasty lunch freshly prepared and served by friendly and informative staff. We have been back with friends and had some of their lovely homemade cake. Would definitely recommend.

Gurkha Chautari Nepalese Restaurant

Bramshott and Liphook, East Hampshire
25/10/2018: I have now eaten here on three occasions and each time the food has been delicious. The dishes are plentiful and well cooked with quality ingredients. I have eaten at a number of similar restaurants in the Petersfield/Liss area, but can say without doubt that this restaurant offers the most tasty and satisfying meal and very reasonably priced.
13/10/2018: Just finished our takeaway - excellent service -friendly staff -fantastic food 10/10 We will be back - maybe for a sir down next time with friends. Thanks so much

Ye Olde George Inn

East Meon, East Hampshire
29/10/2018: The staff were very nice and helpful the food was delicious; it was full of flavour and succulent. They allow dogs in the bar area and there was is a water bowl for dogs outside. Inside there is an exposed brick arrangement creating a very rustic feel. I wold strongly recommend visiting this pub
26/10/2018: Stayed here with friends last weekend. Rooms very comfortable and with the facilities expected (bottled water, tea, coffee along with fresh milk provided daily which was a nice touch). Once the last guests had left the pub, it was very quiet (although we could hear an extractor fan running on the first night, but not too horrendous).

The Hawkley Inn

The Hangers and Forest, East Hampshire, >100£
30/10/2018: Just had a brilliant meal here. Pork belly, beautifullly cooked the only disappointment was the lack of veg which left us wanting more -but where it lacked quantity the quality was excellent. This is consistently a good restaurant with excellent food from an accomplished Chef. Well done all.
22/10/2018: Went for Sunday lunch with visiting extended family from Australia. Perfect experience, great food, Sunday roasts, steak and kidney pies. Full of locals too enjoying really good real ales. Thankyou to the staff who were great.

Frederick's Restaurant

14/08/2018: Amazingly accommodating chef and superb food and service. Not at all fazed by my wife's dietary intolerances we were presented with excellent meals.

Garthowen Garden Centre & Tree House Coffee Shop

Four Marks and Medstead, East Hampshire, 20-30£
10/10/2018: This place does fantastic breakfasts. Super sausages and bacon. Good coffee. Could do with some good quality marmalade. Excellent team, highly motivated, which tells me there is a good management culture. The only irritating factor is the number of noisy toddlers, which is a reflection on the parents rather than the cafe.
05/10/2018: This little cafe appeared out of the rain and mist to cheer us on a long wet day of walking. Perhaps we were extra grateful to be out of the inclement weather, but the delicious soups and sandwiches, variety of baked goods, hot coffees and teas, pleasant staff, all set in a delightful ambiance, made this the highlight of all the cafes, restaurants and pubs visited along our 135 mile walk. A charming stop!

Bottega Dei Sapori

Alton Westbrooke, East Hampshire, >100£
11/10/2018: Have been coming to Bottega for over 10 years on day trips and now that I live in the town I can come in most days for excellent coffee, pastries & meals. The place is spotless, the staff beautifully warm and friendly. You leave feeling that the day is better for having gone there. Bottega also feels central to the town's community and it's clearly used as a meeting place for a lot of people. The garden is a lovely addition if you like to eat outside. Thank you Bottega
02/10/2018: A wonderful afternoon spent having lunch with my Mum at this little gem in Alton! My gnocchi was perfect and the coffee was too.
