The Richmond Arms

Funtington, Chichester
10/08/2018: Some friends took us here as a thank you. Lovely rustic decor in keeping with the building. Very interesting menu - I started with a salad of broad beans and smoked duck, the others enjoyed a crispy poached egg, Scotch egg and a lobster salad in a tortilla cone. We had grilled squid in a poppadum as a main and we agreed the best squid we had ever eaten! Pork belly was also much liked. Home made ice creams to follow.
09/08/2018: I have eaten here several times and never been disappointed. There is always something new and different to try on the menu. Most pub menus are much the same but not here.

Hare and Hounds

Funtington, Chichester, 20-30£
05/09/2018: Visited for a lovely family wedding reception. The pub gave us full use of the rear garden, which is beautifully kept, and backed by fields containing cows. A lovely quiet setting for a special afternoon with friends and family. We were provided with a hog roast - probably sourced externally - but the pub was busy and the drinks were great. We loved the original, cosy interior. Definitely worth another visit!
15/08/2018: Having enjoyed our meal here last time, thought it would be a good idea to take a couple of close friends for a Sunday evening meal, we arrived early so picked a shaded table outside (very hot) & had drinks. The Sunday menu arrived & at first I was a bit disappointed as I just presumed we could choose from the weekday one (I fancied a steak) but after my tasty fish cake starter came the loveliest Cottage pie I have ever tasted apart from 'our lasses'...... we had all chosen the pie & all agreed hooray for Sunday menu :-)

Funtington, Chichester, 45-60£
09/07/2018: superb food prepared by people who are obviously keen to impress, highly recommend a visit. just mind your head on the low beams !
17/05/2018: Four of us went for a meal at Hallidays recently and we had a great evening. The food was superb, as always, and the staff so friendly and helpful (again, as always). I wanted vegetarian food and had phoned first to ask about a suitable starter and main course. They were delicious and I was very touched when our waitress came over to make sure that I didn't make a mistake over my choice of dessert. We will definitely be going there again.

Victoria Inn

Funtington, Chichester
18/08/2018: We chanced upon this pub whilst driving around the beautiful Souith Downs National Park and decided to have a meal there. We were made very welcome by the staff and enjoyed a very pleasant evening. The food is fairly typical pub fare but well done, nicely presented and tasty, my wife had a vegetarian mushroom stack with goats cheese and I had a burger all washed down with acouple of pints of excellent bitter. The Victoria has certainly been added to our list of places to go back to. Well worth the drive out. It is also worth noting that the pub is very relaxed, cosy and dog friendly.
06/08/2018: We had Sunday lunch here last week and it was pretty much a disaster from start to finish. When I booked I was offered 2.00pm or 2.30 and I chose 2.00pm. There were 7 of us, 5 adults and 2 children aged 12 and 14. We arrived promptly at 2.00 and were quickly seated, menus provided and drink orders taken. So far, so good but when our waitress returned with our drinks she announced that the roast beef had run out. Now the central part of the menu was the roasts of which there were only three options - beef, pork or a mixture of beef and pork. Not a good start in a archetypal English pub serving the archetypal English Sunday lunch. Nevertheless we heaved a sigh and of the adults two of us ordered the pork while two of us had the fish pie and one the mushroom stack (a large flat mushroom with a round of goats cheese on top). The kids had a bacon baguette and duck pancakes (really what I would call Spring Rolls) with hoisen sauce and salad.

The Fox and Hounds

Funtington, Chichester, 20-30£
18/08/2018: Friends and I went for lunch at the Fox and Hounds after Alpaca Trekking.
09/08/2018: Another a fantastic meal with excellent service. Everything from the taste and flavour of the food to the overall presentation was a credit to your Chef’s. Thanks again!

The Coach And Horses

Funtington, Chichester
01/08/2018: In passing a small group called in for what emerged to be a very pleasant lunch time bite - baguettes, soup and whitebait (all very good with particularly excellent home baked ham). Beer was well kept. Landlady and landlord very sociable - lovely ambience all round. Based upon my experience it is difficult to see where the 'poor' and 'terrible' reviews came from.
07/04/2018: Called in on a Friday lunchtime.

Woodfired in The Alley

Funtington, Chichester
21/07/2018: The pizza van was a very welcome addition to this lovely restaurant, giving families the opportunity for an informal and tasty meal. Sadly the 'pizzas' and tapas dishes have really gone down hill. I was shocked at how empty the place was when it used to be buzzing on Friday and Saturday nights - have others had the same experience as we had recently? The pizzas (which were already expensive at £12.95) have recently been replaced by flatbreads which at the same price are ridiculously expensive and very poor value for money as they are tasteless with mean and meagre toppings (as if they are trying to cut costs or save money). The fabulous, juicy squid fries, have been replaced by squid bits i.e a few crumbs lacking flavour or texture, in a paper cone, which at £6.95 is a real rip off and just not worth it for price or lack of taste. The selection of tapas dishes is very limited - green padron peppers or tandoori cauliflower? And quite bizarre. Has the usual chef left? Was it his night off? Come on The Richmond Arms - you need to maintain your standards and be more generous with your dishes or you will lose customers such as ourselves - you may already have lost us based on our recent experience.
04/05/2018: Having read and heard good reviews, we decided to go, and were really disappointed, it didn’t live up to the good positive vibes we’d had, the staff were quite standoffish, the pizzas were great, but the rest of the tapas style dishes were mediocre and undercooked, as well as overpriced for the tiny portions, not to mentioned the £2.15 for a soda water.
