The Richmond Arms

Funtington, Chichester
14/12/2018: This is a lovely cosy country pub which serves quality food. It is my go to restaurant if I want to be assured of a good meal and is my favourite local eatery.
12/12/2018: We have eaten here a few times over the years, and generally it's been ok, but finally we had a breakthrough and this meal was quite something ! Broccoli as a starter may not be everyone's favourite, but it was very tasty, as was the beetroot 'kebab'. All diners had the braised brisket with dripping chips, which was simply melt in the mouth. And the puds were good too ! On a weekday lunchtime, we were the only diners, which meant we could hear each other, even if it meant there was a lack of atmoshere. But - no reason to stay away, great food ! And the service was very friendly, prompt and helpful !

18/01/2019: It was my girlfriend's birthday and they made us feel very welcome and special. The Petit Fours with the coffee came on a plate with Happy Birthday ascribed in chocolate on the plate - a lovely touch. The main meal was excellent, very well cooked and presented. We both had steaks and agreed that they were the best steaks we had eaten in a restaurant for a long time.
06/01/2019: Our first time at this well-regarded restaurant, local ot my partner's home We considered the six-course dinner (with pre-canapes and post petit-foursin addition) excellent value at £75 per head. Food-quality was beyond reproach and helpful 'wine-by-the-glass' suggestions were made on the menu to accompany each course (we followed this option and were not disappointed; prices were reasonable). Naturally fully-booked on the 31st December (there were probably 24 or so dining in total - 12 as couples/fours in one room and a large party in a second room), the service was paced across the evening so that everything ran smoothly from arrival at 8p.m. to the glass of Champagnes at midnight. Very pleasingly, although we had paid £25 a head deposit well in advance for our intended group of 4, the owners were completely understanding when the second couple had to pull-out on the day due to illness and did not look for their £50 to be 'forfeit' (I do not think other restauramts would be this understanding). Based on our experience, we will certainly be visitng again and the restaurant carries a firm personal recommendation. Do not expect fancy decor. You visit here for the food-quality and in all likelihood you will be delighted whenever you choose to dine at Halliday's

The Coach And Horses

17/12/2018: Visited with friends and family for a pre Christmas lunch. Situated in a lovely village square with bags of history Paul and Dave will make you feel very welcome. The recently refurbished restaurant was warm and cosy and is great for a family gathering.

The Fox and Hounds

Funtington, Chichester, 20-30£
06/02/2019: Great country pub, really and helpful friendly staff and an amazing lunch! There is nothing on the menu that I wouldn’t recommend!
03/02/2019: Visited for Sunday lunch carvery excellent as was club sandwich, very very busy but staff efficient and coped well. Food really Good even rareroast beef! Only complaint is parking and not sure what they can do about that?

Hare and Hounds

Funtington, Chichester, 20-30£
26/01/2019: We staggered in from doing one of the 'Octagon Walks', exhausted and hoping for a restorative lunch. This was provided and we both had the Thai Curry special (chicken for my husband and veggie for me), plus bread and butter pudding and sticky toffee pudding and (in my case) TWO large glasses of a very agreeable Pinot Grigio rosé. Our order was taken promptly and considering how busy the pub was we didn't have too long to wait for our meals. We were impressed and look forward to returning.
16/01/2019: We went up to the Hare and Hounds for a drink with friends and found the setting and staff extremely welcoming. The beers where excellent - according to my husband - and the selection of ciders were out of this world. Well worth a visit any time of the year as the fire is always welcoming and the outdoor furniture outside is perfect for summer or warmer days.

Victoria Inn

Funtington, Chichester
18/01/2019: When we arrived at The Victoria Inn we received a very warm welcome. There was a real wood fire and the atmosphere was good. The Inn has been there for 300 years and has many interesting features.
02/01/2019: 11 of us had an excellent lunch here recently. Lovely rural location in good walking country. Very friendly and efficient service. Good selection of food, beer and wine. Food came relatively quickly, served at same time and all of good quality. Reasonable value.

Woodfired in The Alley

Funtington, Chichester
21/09/2018: We booked for the tapas menu, and we were just disappointed. Selection was tiny, portions were tiny (yes I know, it is tapas) and price was not tiny! Service was indifferent to say the least, and we won't go back. Shame because we were really keen to try it.
21/07/2018: The pizza van was a very welcome addition to this lovely restaurant, giving families the opportunity for an informal and tasty meal. Sadly the 'pizzas' and tapas dishes have really gone down hill. I was shocked at how empty the place was when it used to be buzzing on Friday and Saturday nights - have others had the same experience as we had recently? The pizzas (which were already expensive at £12.95) have recently been replaced by flatbreads which at the same price are ridiculously expensive and very poor value for money as they are tasteless with mean and meagre toppings (as if they are trying to cut costs or save money). The fabulous, juicy squid fries, have been replaced by squid bits i.e a few crumbs lacking flavour or texture, in a paper cone, which at £6.95 is a real rip off and just not worth it for price or lack of taste. The selection of tapas dishes is very limited - green padron peppers or tandoori cauliflower? And quite bizarre. Has the usual chef left? Was it his night off? Come on The Richmond Arms - you need to maintain your standards and be more generous with your dishes or you will lose customers such as ourselves - you may already have lost us based on our recent experience.
