The George

Chichester North, Chichester, 20-30£
17/08/2018: Four of us had lunch.Bread and olives boring.Whitebait delicious.Belly of pork tasty but rubbery crackling, liver and bacon a bit ordinary, pie very good. Denby red wine not available but told Bolney.noir could be the same price .It was £5 more and should have been offered at a reduced price as a goodwill gesture. Overall disappointing, lovely restaurant, comfortable table and chairs, slow service.
14/08/2018: I have heard many good things about this place for a few years now, and I was definitely not disappointed. Nice beer garden surrounded by trees for a private feel, service was excellent and one of the female waiters (possibly one of the owners) was very friendly. One of the waiters called Roger was an incredibly friendly and helpful chap.

Ask Italian

Chichester North, Chichester, >100£
03/09/2018: A wonderful experience from the time we walked into the restaurant up until we left. The service was excellent, and the food was one of the best Italian dining in Chichester. I did have a 2 for 1 on our meals, however, we were not treated any differently for having this offer. We will be back definitely.
02/09/2018: Given that Ask is a high street eatery its an excellent experience with quality Italian style food.. Its always a toss of the coin between a fine dining Italian, Carlucio's or Ask and whenever we go to Ask its always a pleasure and great value.. I often default to the Pizza Calzone which is always fresh, very substantial and excellent value at just £12.95, add a large Peroni and your evening is complete and to top it all the staff will remember you if your a repeat diner which always adds that finishing touch..

The Royal Oak

Chichester North, Chichester
07/08/2018: A beautiful pub in a wonderful countryside setting - spoiled by an unhelpful and lazy lady behind the bar. We stopped at this lovely pub for lunch last week and secured a table in the garden. Before deciding our menu choice, I popped into the bar to get drinks. I ordered a pint (no problem) but when I asked for a pot of tea I was told "can do you a coffee but not tea". I asked why not tea and was curtly told by the lady behind the bar "because the kitchen's chaos and in a mess and I'm not going in there to boil a kettle". With that attitude, I quickly supped my pint and we left to find a more hospitable lunch venue than the Royal Oak. And we found the equally beautiful Three Horseshoes at Elsted who employ friendly welcoming staff for whom a pot of tea request was simple to fulfil. The lunch was superb so the miserbale barmaid at the Royal Oak actually did us a favour!
05/08/2018: Visited on a lovely Saturday evening after doing the 3 mile circular walk from the pub. Very friendly staff and smiley clientele. Enjoyed sitting outside in the gardens. Specials menu was good and everyone enjoyed their pub food.

The Royal Oak Lagness

Chichester North, Chichester
14/08/2018: Having been let down by quite a few local restaurants/pubs lately we, a group of friends who go out once a month for steak, decided to give the Royal Oak and try we were not disappointed! Great steaks, friendly service and decent puddings. We’ll be back next month and I think we’re all going for the t-bones!
06/08/2018: We haven’t been here for a few years, no particular reason for that as we’ve never had a bad meal here. All our food was fresh and hot and served very quickly. We won’t leave it as long next time.

Beijing Palace

Chichester North, Chichester, 30-45£
25/08/2018: Good meal for an informal family get together. Good variety on the menu, although maybe there could be more vegetable dishes. Felt quite expensive, but a while since we’ve eaten in a Chinese restaurant. Good friendly service that was timely, but not hurried.
17/08/2018: The service and quality of food was outstanding. There were families and couples in the restaurant and the service could not be faulted. It was a Friday night but the food came quickly and was hot and tasty. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Try the crispy beef, outstanding

Little London Cafe

Chichester North, Chichester
14/07/2018: A good place to go for a coffee or a light lunch. Service is friendly and prices are very reasonable. There is a choice of daily specials for meals, and, on the permanent menu, the rarebits are delicious.
08/02/2018: We ate here for the first time today to have Sunday lunch on the invite from my Mother-in-law. First of all I must say it was probably one of the best cuts of beef that I have had for a long time. Two big slices!! The food was very good indeed. From the starters through to the desserts. I have had coffee here ages ago and did not realise that it doubled up as a restaurant as well. Good traditional surroundings, atmosphere and good traditional food. Friendly staff. Definitely worth a look.

The Kennels

Chichester North, Chichester
06/08/2018: The Kennels combine the traditional architecture with a very modern inside. The dressingrooms are very good after a round of golf and the restaurant serves delicius food and drinks. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I will come back!
05/08/2018: I've been coming to the Kennels for almost 20 years, both as a member and with other members. I hadn't been for some time and had heard it had changed. I found out for myself on Friday.

Lanes End Cafe

Chichester North, Chichester
01/08/2018: first time here, off the main street but hand for M&S;! nice Panini and good service, with a cute little courtyard for outside seating, very nice, will go back
14/07/2018: Immediately impressed by willing owner/staff offering lots of choice for full breakfast, late in the day but which was lovely. The toastie I ordered was delicious, accompanied by a full salad, definitely not a garnish, and was therefore a meal in itself. Coleslaw was home made, dressing home made and salad had every ingredient including apple. Coffee perfect. Ignore chains in main shopping area and seek this place out.

The Anglesey Arms

Chichester North, Chichester
19/08/2018: Me and my family, 6 of us in all, were on our way back from day out in Chichester and stumbled across The Anglesey Arms at Stake Street, Halnaker, PO18 ONQ. Whilst it is not the most modern looking place the food was amazing. My sister-in-law had the Mezze board and said it was near the top of her list of the best meals she ever had. The rest of us had either the chicken pesto schnitzel or hamburger. All homemade and freshly cooked. Can't recommend it highly enough.
17/08/2018: We were staying nearby the Anglesey Arms and booked a table for dinner although we needn't have bothered as it wasn't busy. First impressions were rather concerning. The bar area was very shabby and very much a locals pub and we were unsure what we had let ourselves in for! The food however was really really good! I had a crab and spring onion rosti to start which was delicious and despite my misgivings the crab was beautifully fresh. My husband had lovely crispy whitebait. We both had fish and chips for main course and I think it could be the only time that I have ever eaten every bit of both the fish and the chips. There was no soggy batter or greasy chips, it was crispy, fresh and good. The service was good and the waitress was very friendly. The pub looks lovely from the outside, nice hanging baskets etc but it is a shame and a let down to the high quality food that the interior is so shabby and dismal.

The Minerva Brasserie

Chichester North, Chichester, 20-30£
03/09/2018: Four of us ate here before going to see Copenhagen. Staff were excellent and allowed us to take drinks outside so we could enjoy the last of the sun. The sharing platter starters were superb. The mains (poached salmon, mojito chicken and a vegetarian) all failed to deliver what they promised; we all wished we had had a starter and a pudding.
31/08/2018: We booked the restaurant as a pre-theatre birthday treat and were very disappointed.

John Lewis Cafe

Chichester North, Chichester
25/08/2018: With two friends I had half an hour to kill before going out to dinner with them. We were in the John Lewis store at Chichester and their café seemed to as good a place as anywhere to spend this time.
19/08/2018: Clean, tidy and convenient in this retail park. Staff very friendly and helpful. Coffee pretty standard prices for regular and large, from the usual machines; but the cakes and muffins were expensive so we reluctantly gave those a miss as tempting as they were. They have a limited range of hot food including bacon baps but we didn't try this.

Murrays

Chichester North, Chichester, 45-60£
18/08/2018: We arrived, building in need of some TLC but charming. Food ok but not great. Breakfast was good. The staff absolutely made the place. Thank you so much Ollie, Grace, Ash, Alex and Kate and the others. They couldn't do enough for you.
18/08/2018: Five of us dined here pre theatre in August. First the good news - the food - it really is very nice. Now for the bad, the service. Despite the restaurant not being that busy, the service was slow to non-existent, we had to ask for everything (menus, wine, water etc) at least twice if not three times. We asked for ketchup and vinegar with the fish and chips but they arrived fifteen minutes later when we’d all but finished. And when asking for things, there was an unfortunate tone from the waiting staff - ‘we’re very busy with a wedding’ a common refrain. Presumably the wedding was also the reason the toilets were in dire need of servicing. The night before we’d dined at Cote I’m Chichester and what a contrast - nothing was too much trouble and it was about half the price. Disappointed by The Jetty I’m afraid and the service is doing the food a disservice.

The Park Tavern

Chichester North, Chichester
17/08/2018: Once a great local, this pub has lost its way. Many of the great staff have left. Often runs out of booze. Sad as was such a vibrant place.
17/06/2018: We spent a very enjoyable few days in Chichester (7th - 11th June). The weather was excellent. We were staying near to the Park Tavern and popped in a couple of times as we were passing for a relieving drink on a hot afternoon. Obviously a very popular place; most of the customers were outside enjoying the sunshine. A traditional bar with a range of ales and very friendly staff.

The Bell Inn

Chichester North, Chichester
11/08/2018: This is a good, simple, traditional pub in terms of both decor and food; but it rates 5* as it provides reliable pre-theatre meals, both matinees and evenings, for the nearby Festival theatre - not totally surprising as the owner is a former theatre Front of House manager?! Best to reserve a table on theatre days as they can be very busy. The menu changes regularly, the food tastes fresh, and the portions are generous. Unlike many pubs these days it has efficient, effective, friendly staff who understand that you would like to be in and out within an hour - ie no pressure to buy a second round of drinks - they even have their clock set 10 minutes fast so you don't miss curtain up! On my theatre days I wouldn't go anywhere else!
05/08/2018: This establishment, close to the Festival Theatre, seems to have undergone a makeover in recent times, and has improved all round as a result. The menu changes frequently, as do the real ales, and the wine list has expanded into something worthy of study.
