The Wife of Bath

Wye, Ashford
16/06/2019: First time I’ve been here menu was fantastic I tired the rabbit for starter my partner had anchovies for mains we had lamb and chicken and deserts were cheesecake and butter pudding all fantastic even the small extra plates were outstanding will definitely be back
05/06/2019: This was an overnight treat for my wife and I from our family and recommended by our son- in -law Tim. Owned by Mark Sargeant and very ably managed by Akos ( providing a warm and informative welcome ) and Ramona, this is a very tidy restaurant with 6 bedrooms ( We stayed in the Sir Thopas room ) in the village of Wye.The menu has a Spanish influence- the mention of Iberico and Chorizo along with a lovely selection of Spanish wines will tip you off - including the opportunity to have some wonderful tapas, but there is a nice balance. Our evening meal was delicious with helpful guidance by Ramona ,amuse bouche, palate cleanser, a sensible gap between courses and one of the nicest bottles of Albarino ( 12.5% Alc ) at a sensible price that I have had for a long time-in fact everything you would associate with a first class restaurant. The staff ,Violet ( front of house) and Liam ( bar ) all combining to give a polished and friendly service. We thoroughly enjoyed our treat and I only wish that they were closer to our home . Chaucer may not have stayed and eaten there but I bet he wish he had !!

Trattoria Romana

Victoria, Ashford, <20£
17/06/2019: Not been here for years. No idea why as this is such a charming restaurant. It’s been there for 38 years ! The food is delicious and a fresh as you can get. It’s authentic, hot and served with style. Baked Brie, well that’s enough to serve two! Superb. Vegetarian cannelloni full of perfectly cooked vegetables topped with a gorgeous sauce. There’s still a desert trolley wheeled to toy table with a great choice. Bonoffi pie, home made, scrumptious and served at the table.
14/06/2019: Excellent food as usual. Crab salad exceptional, Veal with mushroom sauce splendid. Very good wine choices

The Ewe & Lamb

Rolvenden and Tenterden West, Ashford
18/06/2019: Treated mum and dad to the Japanese taster night for birthday/father's Day. They were a a bit apprehensive as they hadn't been in 20yrs and previous taster nights at other venues had been lots of money with little food!
15/06/2019: Decided on the spur of the moment to stop in for lunch. We found the service friendly and attentive The menu and specials catered for all needs My Steak and Ale pie was particularly good with soft tasty meat, mash and gravy with perfectly cooked veggies

Victoria, Ashford
03/06/2019: A friend and I stumbled upon this place. It's fairly easy to pass by which is an absolute shame as we enjoyed it far more than an equivalent meal from one of the local Indian restaurants. Lovely momos, curries and the bhature bread is great!
12/04/2019: Not been here a long while, as always food was great and enjoyed till full, my friend was struggling to finish his, but he did say he win by finishing it nxt time. The staff welcoming and polite, it was nice for them to come along side to have little chat, asking how pleasant the food was. So we definitely be back.

The Secret Garden

Weald East, Ashford, 30-45£
17/06/2019: A birthday treat for my 75 year old mum did not disappoint. Absolutely brilliant afternoon tea for four adults featuring an array of superb sandwiches, freshly baked scones, cakes and a wide selection of teas.
14/06/2019: We have visited a number of times for various events and have always found the food spectacular.

The Kings Head Restaurant

Wye, Ashford, >100£
16/06/2019: We had a take away pizza from the Kingshed last week. What really good pizza and a great addition for the village. Fingers crossed it does well!
16/06/2019: Called in here for lunch for the second time this year whilst out walking. Lovely food at reasonable prices, nice beer, great staff. What more do you need...?

Everest Inn

Victoria, Ashford, <20£
29/05/2019: This is our go-to Indian. Gets really busy at the obvious times, like Friday nights, and you can see why. Avoid the stereotypical dishes and go for the unusual starters and the chef's specials. There is a Viognier by Gerard Bertrand on the wine list, which is ridiculously good for the price.
18/05/2019: We have passed this place so many times in the car, or on foot, and thought we must try it out, but never have .....until last night. From the warm welcome on arrival to the amazing food, this place certainly didn’t disappoint! I had the Chicken Momo dumplings (well worth the 20 minute wait they warn you of) and the House Special Mix Karahi, which they offered to make for me without cream as I can’t eat it. Very tasty food, great service and the restaurant was buzzing. Will definitely be back.

The Ferry Inn

Isle of Oxney, Ashford, 30-45£
17/06/2019: A group of 6 friends went here on a Friday night in June. Lovely location and everything you want from a local pub. Seating outside is plentiful to watch the sunset. From the moment we arrived the staff were very attentive and couldn’t do enough to help accommodate some difficult dietary requirements. Good selection of beers and ciders on tap. Really tasty scallops and everyone enjoyed their food
17/06/2019: Booked a table for 6 on the Saturday before Fathers day, 4 adults and two children. The food was fantastic, the service was great and the place had a lovely local pub charm that no major pub chain can match.

Airport Cafe

Victoria, Ashford
13/06/2019: I work just down the road and always take my residents there for a bite to eat, the food is always good and the price is also good value for money. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a quick bite to eat.
05/06/2019: Going to the airport cafe is great the food is excellent along with the service. We recommend going here 100%

West House

Biddenden, Ashford, 45-60£
13/06/2019: We went midweek and had the tasting menu without matching wines. Really enjoyed the meal and agreed that the restaurant deserved its Michelin star. Began with some champagne, which was excellent. Friendly, efficient and helpful service. Water served straight away and jug refilled regularly. Food came at the right intervals and the six courses (which were really a couple more if you add amuse bouchée, bread, olives and palate cleanser before dessert) took more than 2 hours. I enjoyed every course. My favourite was the taco style dish with shredded foie gras.
12/06/2019: We went for the tasting menu with the wine pairing, and it was a great success form start to end. Fabulous food, nice service and excellent wines, in a very charming restaurant. Absolutely worth a visit and its star

The Chilli Bite

Victoria, Ashford, <20£
15/06/2019: What a lovely treat! Set in a quiet tucked away corner of Ashford overlooking the church, this is my favourite tea room. Lovely selection of sandwiches, light airy scones and the best coffee & walnut cake that I have ever tasted. Devine! A massive thank you to Trevor and his lovely team for an enjoyable afternoon.
01/05/2019: Just had a fabulous afternoon tea at the Chilli Bite, it was a Groupon deal, sandwiches were fresh and plentiful, scones were warm and delicious, Victoria sponge was also scrummy. Also served as much tea as we wanted. Great value little place. Highly recommend.

The Walnut Tree Inn

Saxon Shore, Ashford
01/06/2019: Quality food. Vast selection. Good portion size and epic value for money. A must dine experience! Found this wonderful old smugglers pub a week ago with my neighbours and snuck back for a lunch today. We eat out a lot and it's hard to find home cooked food with fresh veg and great taste and decent portion size but we've found it now! Steak and Kidney as good as good as my Nan used to make served with 5 fresh tasty veg for only£9.95. Insane value. I had the steak and Kidney pudding with great chips last week and that was amazing too! My wife had the cold meat platter which was great and huge with a racking variety just like a meat lovers ploughmans. Perfect place for a large family gathering as no one will go home hungry and it won't kill your bank balance. Be back soon. Compliments to all the staff and the chef on such a hot day too. John and Annette
30/05/2019: Food was of excellent quality as it is at weekends , had lovely roast and as usual all veggies cooked to perfection x excellent service all round despite being very busy x

The Bakehouse

Biddenden, Ashford
11/06/2019: Having just visited sissinghurst which was lovely but so busy we decided to look for a cafe nearby. This was a very good find. So welcoming and more than happy for the dog to come in. Quirky and very cosy decoration. We had a very tasty sandwich and a proper cup of tea with tea leaves. Would highly recommend.
05/06/2019: I have been here a couple of times on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. I love the cosiness and character of the place. The sandwiches are yummy and they do great cakes too!

The Compasses Inn

Downs North, Ashford
17/06/2019: Visited recently to celebrate my sons birthday , party of 4.Although off of the beaten track it was easily found with the aid of sat nav and well worth the journey. We received a warm welcome and the service throughout was superb being helpful and friendly but not intrusive. Choosing from the menu was difficult with so many wonderful choices on the menu and whilst we ordered different dishes everyone was excellent with no issues of “food envy”. A truly wonderful evening and we will definitely be returning.
13/06/2019: My wife and I went for our wedding anniversary for lunch at the Compasses, because she had read very positive things about it. She contacted them in advance because I have some serious life threatening food allergies, and they were very obliging and professional, and assured her that they could work around my allergies.
