Regency, Brighton and Hove, 30-45£
17/12/2018: We returned to the Gingerman only five weeks after our first visit.
13/12/2018: A real pleasure to enjoy lunch at this intimate restaurant. Professional, friendly and welcoming staff. Great food and incredible lunchtime value menu at £17 for 2 courses and £20 for 3 courses. Broad wine list at sensible prices. With an hour’s notice the team prepared and printed an individual vegan menu - impressive attention to detail. Thank you!

Burger Brothers

St. Peter's and North Laine, Brighton and Hove, <20£
12/12/2018: El título lo dice todo. Hamburguesas espectaculares, a buen precio merece la pena probarlas, son atentos y la verdad es que pocas veces he probado una hamburguesa tan rica.
12/12/2018: Let's strip away the douchy attitude from the donkey behind the counter and the whole self-satisfied "we are the best" attitude permeating this rundown-looking hole with terrible sitting and dirty surfaces - you're left with an expensive, pretentious looking "piled up" style burger with a minuscule, watery patty and no chips. Avoid.

Tuscan Kitchen Rye

Rye, Rother, 45-60£
11/12/2018: This is a place to visit again and again and again. We particularly love going as a group of over 6, and having the taster menu of over 10 delicious courses, as chosen by the chef! This is just amazing.
16/11/2018: We have been eating at the Tuscan Kitchen since Jen & Franco bought it. It is simply the best Italian food. In fact, I almost didn't write this review as it gets so booked up that you have to book a few weeks ahead. I don't want too many people to find out how fabulous this place is. Everything we have ever eaten has been lovingly cooked and is delicious. Highly recommend everyone to go. Enjoy!

Pizza Calzone

Banbury Grimsbury and Castle, Cherwell, <20£
23/12/2018: We had an unplanned lunch here today. I am Italian and I cannot recommend this place enough. The pizzas are great and so is the rest of the menu with extremely generous portions. The staff is very friendly and efficient and we were treated to an espresso and a tiramisu’ as a Christmas gift! We will definitely be regular visitors.
17/12/2018: I highly recommend the spaghetti volgone! The staff are very friendly and I have never had a bad meal here. Try the special of the day which is usually fresh fish. I am sold on the volgone though - love it!!

Lymington Town, New Forest
01/01/2019: What a way to see in the New Year. Scrumptious food, great disco, attentive and friendly staff. They organised a great evening to see in the New Year, thank you.
30/12/2018: We visited this lovely family run restaurant whilst we were staying locally. The restaurant is tucked away down a side street and from the outside does not look special. When you go in the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. The decor is unfussy and the tables well spaced out. The food was delicious and the service helpful and charming. The staff were very patient whilst we explained certain things that members of our party could not eat and quick to offer suggestions. Our particular favourite starters were the goats cheese millefeuille and avocado and hazelnut cheesecake. The desserts were wonderful too and so beautifully plated. Definitely worth a visit.

Truffles French Restaurant

Fareham East, Fareham, 20-30£
07/01/2019: Looking for a good quality dinner out in this area. This came up as the #1 in Fareham so thought we’d give it a try. Bit sceptical when we went in as decor was quite basic/needs updating and restaurant very quiet as just after Christmas but was very pleasantly surprised! The food was excellent quality, the chocolate Guinness cake desert amazing and the house white wine one of the best house wines I’ve ever had. Definitely recommend.
07/01/2019: Having checked they catered for vegans, we were looking forward to eating at Truffles. We’d much rather give our money to small independent restaurants than the big chains. On entering the restaurant we were greeted by a rather shabby looking door curtain and dull looking interior. Neither of which would have been a problem had the food been good. Sadly it wasn’t. I had the only vegan option available, the ‘Onion bhaji, sweet potato and lentil dahl, garlic greens, raita’ which was basically a large tablespoon of dahl, onion bhaji and spring greens without the raita. Whilst it tasted lovely the portion was tiny and at a cost of £13.50 was way overpriced. My partner had the lamb. He said it was lovely too. There was more on his plate than mine but still not a great deal. I did hear another table asking for more vegetables and when they were told there would be a wait of around 10 mins they changed their mind. I’m guessing they thought the portion size was small too. We ordered one pudding, the ‘Spiced roasted pineapple, coconut sorbet, coconut tuille’ which came without the coconut tuille (to make it vegan). This was terrible. Tiny and tasteless. When I mentioned about the portion size, the waitress (possibly owner) wasn’t interested. It was cold in there too. I sat with my coat over my shoulders which went unnoticed. The bill didn’t even reflect the fact that bits were left off the dishes to make them vegan. I always leave a generous tip but I didn’t this time. I’m not sure what happened to ‘we are a Husband and Wife team and are passionate about food and giving our customers the best experience possible.’ Disappointing to say the least.

The Home Sweet Home

Cholsey and Wallingford South, South Oxfordshire
02/01/2019: Stopped at the Home Sweet Home for lunch on our way to a New Years eve weekend away stay.
29/12/2018: Had a lovely family pub lunch here today. It wasn’t too busy but I think that was due to the Xmas effect on digestion systems.

Verveine Fishmarket Restaurant

Milford, New Forest, 45-60£
17/12/2018: We spent a wonderful evening at Verveine recently, celebrating my wife's birthday. We elected to have the full 10 course experience and we were really glad we did. Every course was both very creative and superbly executed, wine pairings were well considered and imaginative, and the desserts made us smile before we had even tasted them (tasting them just made us smile more!!). However what really elevated the experience was the infectious enthusiasm that everyone in the team seems to have for what they are doing there. Having the 10 courses also meant that our taxi back to our hotel needed rebooking on what was already a busy Saturday night - but this was dealt with seamlessly by the Front of House team so that we could fully enjoy the whole amazing evening. Thank you!!
12/12/2018: Back again for a 3rd visit. What can I say outstanding, we were blown away by the presentation, taste and service. What a magical fun experience if you think you have been to good restaurants this knocks the socks off anything you have experienced 5 star all the way.

The Greyhound Free House & Grill

Sonning Common, South Oxfordshire, 20-30£
17/12/2018: We are always happy to make seasonal visits to relatives close by as it provides a reason to visit The Greyhound for lunch. Mine host and his team go out of their way to make the whole establishment festive and welcoming and unlike certain other establishments do not 'cash in' by increasing prices or reducing quantity or quality. It makes our 160 mile round trip well worth the effort.
17/12/2018: A return visit confirmed my earlier view that there is no finer restaurant in the area. Food is perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, offers classic and modern choices and although not cheap, great value. The pub is full of character and ambience and service efficient and really friendly. I cannot find fault and remain amazed The Greyhound does not have an even bigger following. AWT himself was in the kitchen, as was the case the last time we visited.

The Empire Room

Central Harbour, Thanet
16/12/2018: Visited at lunchtime with friends from London. Great quality food, friendly and efficient service. Highly recommended.
14/12/2018: Absolutely amazing food in a lovely setting. The curried Hake was divine; incredible flavours and a really good portion of very fresh fish. Simply wonderful. The staff as ever are attentive and provide a first class service.

Rye, Rother, 30-45£
02/01/2019: During a short stay in Rye, we visited this place 3 times, to sample the delights of the hot chocolate after being recommend to us by a friend. It didn’t disappoint us at all. We could choose the percentage of chocolate we had anything from a white Chocolate to a dark chocolate and anything in between there’s 21 different chocolates to choose from and then you can add extras for 50p such as mint and fresh orange zest. Their homemade marshmallows are also pretty tasty to and an excellent extra for your drink!
28/12/2018: We love coming to knoops as a treat on our way home! The children have their super chocolatey hot chocolate...and I try not to..but always end up with the chilli dark chocolate- always worth the wait and always served with a smile - thank you

Wild Thyme Restaurant and Rooms

Chipping Norton, West Oxfordshire
29/12/2018: We came here for dinner after the panto at Chipping Norton theatre and had a lovely evening.
16/12/2018: Our second visit to this cosy restuarant and we weren't disappointed. We chose the December fixed menu which was an exciting 3 course meal to look forward to and we also chose the recommended wine. The starter - a variety of smoked trout, mackerel, salmon and prawns, the perfect serve size and all very tasty. Of course the bread was amazing. This was followed by duck - breast and leg, with crispy skin (yum) and lots of veg perfectly cooked with still a crunch, topped off with the tastiest jus. Desert was a quince frangipan with honey ice cream, very delicious. We could have chosen alternative dishes off the al a carte menu but it was not necessary, we were delighted with our choices. A special meal with special friends, look forward to a repeat performance from this clever chef. As for the wine, you'll have to visit the restaurant to find out which bottle it was - it was divine. All fantastic value.

The Fish Shack

Lydd, Shepway
25/10/2018: Had heard about it and tried to go but obviously if the weather is terrible it’s not the best place but went for lunch today and sat in glorious sunshine in a t shirt. Fish roll was large and plentiful and demolished by my teenage son - salad and all! Fish flatbread was delicious, nicely cooked fresh fish, crunch home made salad and really good home made tartare sauce. Lovely crispy crunchy potatoes. Chocolate caramel flapjack to finish. I see complaints about things not being on the menu but it’s whatever the fisherman next door has caught so don’t complain.
25/10/2018: When we visited last Saturday, the snack shack was unfortunately closed.

The Hythe Brasserie

Hythe Central, Shepway
15/12/2018: As usual a 10 out of 10 for this wonderful place...The food just continues on and on at a high level of Yummyness!! Never fails to impress... The staff are wonderful too!!😘
01/12/2018: Interesting varied menu, excellent service, excellent wine. Food mainly very good, although the vegetables could be more interesting and the gravy was extremely salty. The almond and cherry tart was to die for, also the lemon sorbet with limoncello and brandy snap - a lovely light dessert after a substantial turkey meal. Prices reasonable for the quality of the offering.

The Curlew Restaurant

Salehurst, Rother, 30-45£
18/12/2018: What a truly wonderful lunch. It was the first time the 3 of us had visited and it certainly won't be the last. The service throughout was so friendly and attentive and the food was magnificent. We have eaten in several Michelin Stared establishments and this restaurant could hold it's own against any of them. The attention to detail and quality of the dishes was amazing,
18/12/2018: We made an evening booking at The Curlew because their website advertised a turkey roast on their festive menu. This is somewhat miss leading as the menu we were given at the restaurant did not have any turkey roast and when we asked about the Turkey roast we were told it was on the lunch menu!!! Well that was not made clear on their website, very miss leading and not something I would expect from this type of restaurant. Just be aware their website is not to be trusted.
