Little Chamonix Cafe

Keswick, Allerdale
18/08/2019: We are local to Keswick and cannot recommend this cafe enough. The staff and owner are friendly while still be professional and efficient. The food is generally simple, honest good food with some specials thrown in. The cakes are homemade and simply delicious! Go there, you will not be disappointed
12/08/2019: I’ve been a number of times for coffee and cake and every time had been grand. Not normally a carvetti coffee fan, but it’s served very well here. Scones are great in taste (and size). Nice friendly staff. Lovely feel to the place.

17/08/2019: Good accomodation.Great good.Friendly, welcoming staff.Magnificent setting.Even the weather didn't spoil our stay.
13/08/2019: Abit of a long drive to an isolated area in the woods but definitely worth it. We as a group ordered the tasting menu of Cumbria and we're amazed by the well executed venison and phenomenal lamb. The trout and scallop were also very delectable. The staff are super friendly and very attentive. Overall we enjoyed the night and for £70pp, could not reccomend eating here anymore !

The Chalet Tearooms and Restaurant

Derwent Valley, Allerdale
14/08/2019: We stayed at the nearby Derwentwater Hotel and rather than incurr the high hotel breakfast prices we decided to come here for breakfast. The restaurant has a nice modern appearance and the food was of a good quality and reasonably priced. Our main gripe is that the restaurant opens at 9am but what they fail to mention is that for the first 15 minutes they are busy bleaching the entire place clean. Maybe we were unlucky on the day we ate there but scrambled eggs on toast with the smell of cleaning fluids wafting under your nose is not what I had envisaged. They need to adjust the cleaning rota so that if you are going to bleach clean the place which is fair enough as they attract a lot of dogs and muddy fell walker's then maybe time it so that when you start to serve food your customers don't have to subject themselves to a chemical breakfast as well. We had to eat outside the smell was that strong. It reminded me of a swimming pool changing rooms. We would visit again as the restaurant is nice but maybe next time we'll have a lay in first.
10/08/2019: Stopped for lunch at this pretty little café/bar after a long morning's hiking. Very attentive, friendly & efficient staff serving excellent food & wine at very reasonable prices in clean & comfortable surroundings. Highly recommended.

The Fairydust Emporium

Silloth, Allerdale
20/08/2019: We arrived to a very busy little cafe- just about to leave and the owner came and said they have room and did all she could to accommodate us (family of 3). I thought this was lovey as most cafes just shrug their shoulders and let you be on you way. Despite being manically busy, the lady was more than happy and very friendly to explain to you about ordering etc and made a lovely little fuss over our 3 year old little girl!
20/08/2019: Myself and 2 friends visited this wonderful cafe August 19, 2019, and we were blown away by the service and food, the young girls who were running up and down the stairs couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, the portions were more than adequate and the food delicious, i didnt have cake but my friends did huge slices of what they described as fluffy and gorgeous with ample cream to help it down. They were very busy but the owner made time when we were leaving to chat to us and even offered to sprinkle fairy dust on our age 60 plus heads and we accepted why would we not. This is a special place and a must visit when in the area. Thank you so much FairydustHQ Emporium for a memorable visit. Ps maybe see you in nz one day.

Morrels Restaurant

Keswick, Allerdale
18/08/2019: My son and I ate here and had a fabulous meal. They have a separate vegan menu that shows creativity and care. The starter was an aubergine roll served over mash with the most amazing sauce. I could have had several to make a meal. I didn’t want to share once I tasted it! But it’s hard to turn down your own child. For the main we both had the BBQ jackfruit taco. Oh my, I was in heaven.
18/08/2019: We chose to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary at Morrels and we were not disappointed. We had the set meal £21.95pp and it was absolutely delicious. We were surprised and delighted when we were gifted a beautifully presented fruit platter to commemorate our ‘Special’ anniversary. We were served our amazing food by very professional staff and would highly recommend.

The Kingfisher

Keswick, Allerdale
21/08/2019: Came highly recommended by my campsite managers. I fancied eating at the restaurant that eve. Could choose where to sit. It all seemed very good quality. Ordered Fish (which is haddock) chips and mushy peas. Tartare sauce is in a sachet, which is a shame as I thought a place that seems so good would have their own/similar in a dish. Essentially as I say all good quality, however I did leave a few 'crunchy' ! chips and some batter.. certainly did enjoy the meal. Also a medium glass of 'red'! I would return if in the area.
20/08/2019: Had gluten free haddock & chips. The fish is floured (rice flour) rather than battered. The fish & chips were lovely, although the mushy peas were a little bland (just required a little extra seasoning). The drinks range was a little limited and a gluten free beer would be a good addition. It was a lovely place to grab some GF food and we will probably be back.

19/08/2019: Visited the Pheasant pub Sunday evening, table booked for 8pm and the pub was full, not a spare table, glad we had booked. The bar serves traditional beers, good selection of gins and wine. Our meal experience was great, really tasty, good portion size and tasted delicious. We had the Venison Bourguignon, Lamb Henry and my wife the the

20/08/2019: Called in for a late lunch after a visit to the Via Ferrata at Honister. We were drying out after our time on the crags and wanted something hot. I chose the vegetable chilli, which was served with large nachos, sour cream and cheese, washed down by a hot chocolate topped with cream and marshmallows. My wife had a salmon sandwich with chicken soup.

Quince & Medlar

All Saints, Allerdale, >100£
03/08/2019: We were given a voucher for this restaurant as an anniversary present, so booked a night in Cockermouth and made our visit there. It is amazing! From the moment you arrive, where you are shown to a lovely little sitting area, where you can enjoy a pre-dinner drink and peruse the menus in a leisurely way, to the lovely, calm atmosphere in the dining area to the superb cuisine - the whole experience is very special. The food was served in a very attractive way and tasted absolutely delicious. The tiny buckwheat pancake, with mushrooms and a delicate salad was a great starter, whilst my husband relished the cheese souffle. We struggled to choose which main courses to have, but I opted for the spiced lentils and roots dish which was a fascinating combination of flavours and wonderfully tasty. My husband was equally pleased with his balsamic beetroot and borlotti bean filo parcels with halloumi and other extras. The dishes were light but quite filling, but we decided we just had to find room for desserts, and were so glad we did. I absolutely loved the summer pudding - which looked and tasted outstanding - and i enjoyed a taste of my other half's passionfruit panna cotta! We returned to the cosy and attractive sitting room to enjoy coffee and fanstastic chocolates. There was an interesting wine list - we opted for a very good Fairtrade chenin blanc. It was lovely to get the chance to talk to talk to Louisa at the end of the evening and to learn about the way they had combined two houses to create such a lovely restaurant. This really is a superb restaurant and deserves its excellent reputation. I wish we lived nearer - but hopefully we will be back before too long!
02/08/2019: From the welcome we received on arrival to the coffee and home made petit four at the end of our meal everything added up to make our visit to The Quince and Medlar a really lovely dining experience. Excellent food, attentive service and a relaxed atmosphere - we shall certainly visit again next time we are in the area.

13/08/2019: I visited this tapas bar for a drink and food at 9pm. Although the website states that is open till midnight, I found out when I arrived that this is only for drinks and not for food. It is not advertised when they stop serving food.

The Square Orange Cafe Bar

Keswick, Allerdale
18/08/2019: Had read that it was difficult to get a table but we really hit lucky as a table was being vacated when we arrived. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, especially what I would consider to be the best tapas I have tasted. The staff are so pleasant and helpful - how they function so efficiently in such a small space is a credit to the organisation.
13/08/2019: I had read the review from “almbrown” on the 9th August and due to Jenni replying saying staff would be spoken too I thought all would be ok but unfortunately that was not the case. We arrived and was seated at a table next to who I worked out after 10 mins that was staff not working. Nothing bothered us ( although others had to wait as they were taking up a table)until our food was ready to be served. When I saw our tapas on the side ready to be served one of the girls from the ‘staff table ‘ went up to the pass and thought to serve us but chatted with the chef asking for food for them as she was chatting she flicked her hair and it went in my tapas! My tapas sat there for five minutes more as it was a busy evening. While we were eating our food ( which was delicious) a member of staff dropped a glass nobody in the restaurant murmured except the ‘staff table’ they jeered the poor girl and didn’t offer to help just pointed out the glass that was meant on the floor. I feel this isn’t the full potential of this place, the food was lovely , the staff that were working were very pleasant especially the young lady behind the bar who was sorting everything and teaching a new member of staff. I would go again but only if other places weren’t available.
