McHalls Bistro

Claremont, Blackpool, <20£
12/01/2018: After three years McHalls is still our favourite place to go on a Friday night. Danny and Gavin just keep giving us brilliant food and a brilliant experience. I can't recommend eating here enough and whatever your taste, there's always something on Gavin's regularly rotated menu for you and Danny will make sure you are well looked after and entertained. With these two on their (well deserved) holiday, our Friday night just hasn't been the same. Counting the days until they're back.......

Mi Casa Su Casa

Bispham, Blackpool, 20-30£
13/01/2018: This real Spanish bistro is located in a very unassuming area. The setting is casual. The immaculate kitchens and amazing chefs are in view whilst they prepare some of the tastiest, fresh food we've tasted for miles around. Daily specials were marked on chalk board and once it had sold, it was erased. We were presented a visual choice of different fish fillets of the day. We had halibut which was remarkable. Fresh ingredients prepared by real chefs are obviously key to their success along with very friendly and polite staff. Nomatter where you live or visit on the Fylde coast, Mi casa is a must for an afternoon visit to enjoy beautifully cooked, fresh and real Mediterranean food together with amazing hospitality. Absolutely recommended.
05/01/2018: Didn’t book but we was found a table at very short notice just before christmas. Super great service and food, first time visit and would highly recommend to all. All the staff were super friendly and were happy to make recommendations. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

Steam Bistro

Coniston and Crake Valley, South Lakeland
11/01/2018: My wife booked for my birthday, staying in coniston over the new year , so wanted something a bit different from pub fayre !Well I was not disappointed , the food was excellent as was the service , does not have drinks licence therefore it is a BYO , so a nice couple of bottles of red were purchased en route!!!Cannot recommend steam bistro enough,if you are visiting coniston , make sure you book in advance cause this place is a little gem...
05/01/2018: Steam has, on every one of our visits, proved consistently superb. The welcome is inevitably warm and friendly, and service laid back - some may feel that it is too slow but in our opinion it is such an eclectic and charming dining environment that hanging around a little while is no hardship! The food itself - we were fortunate enough on this occasion to have a table for the New Year’s Eve meal - is consistently inventive, ambitious and delicious, within the context of wisely small menu choice. Everything is beautifully presented and flavoured. Finally, the value offered by a Steam, for the quality offered, is superb. A 3 course offer for around £25 per person (ok, more for a 5-course NYE do) plus the ability to take along your own top quality bottle of wine for a small corkage fee, is simply too good an opportunity to miss!

The Old Stamp House Restaurant

Ambleside and Grasmere, South Lakeland, 45-60£
09/01/2018: Fantastic dinner, cannot rate more highly, one of the best meals out we've ever had. Every ingredient and dish was exemplary. We enjoyed ingredients that we would never normally choose nor like. Dinner from the Winter menu with wine for 2 came to £120 but this felt like incredibly good value for what we received and all the work that had so obviously gone into our food. Only down side is we don’t live near enough to go back soon enough!
06/01/2018: To sample the evening tasting menu will set you back £65. But you can have an amazing 3 course lunch for £25. We had gorgeous canapes as well. I tried a beetroot meringue and it was delightful. There is also a mini lunchtime tasting menu for £35. Its definitely worth heading here for lunch, but worth booking and they stop serving at 2ish (maybe 1.45?).

Volare

Duke's, Sefton, 20-30£
16/01/2018: The lunchtime set menu is very good value, and has a good selection of modern and traditional Italian dishes. The service is very pleasant and because they are always busy on a Saturday lunchtime there is a good atmosphere. I have eaten here on 2 or 3 occasions and the standard has been consistent on each occasion. because of the value they offer they tend to attract a loyal and slightly more mature customer.
11/01/2018: Small friendly and fantastic food. Book early to avoid disappointment

04/01/2018: Not been in for a while and boy have we been missing something. We actually did food to go. Sandwiches great, service great but the quiche and custard tarts, oh my lord, how good were they?????If you just go and get the custard tart it is worth the journey.

Ambrosini's

Squires Gate, Blackpool
06/01/2018: We visited this restaurant over two years ago I think it’s still very good and the service was even better then the last time
31/12/2017: Booked a few months ago for NYE celebrations. Turned up early which was wrong as they have no bar/lounge area, but no problem really. Shown to our table, ordered drinks and perused the menu. Once our orders were taken the food was exceptional, not too much but just enough. Would happily return, but closer to the booking time.Thank you.

The Hungry Duck

Ramsbottom, Bury, <20£
08/01/2018: I've been to this restaurant with my family 3 times now, and had an absolutely amazing time and experience every single time.Joe is absolutely lovely, and always so friendly and welcoming, and the perfect front of house for The Hungry Duck. A lovely chilled and relaxing atmosphere, with great hosting, is only topped by the absolutely sensational food.Every single time, every single plate has been cleared by every member of the party, and literally has never been a single comment from anyone on what could be improved, just rave reviews of how good the food and meal has been.I would go back in a heartbeat, and as quickly as possible.
07/01/2018: Enjoyed a meal for two this afternoon. On the well priced 2 course for £21 or 3 for £25. The food was excellent.Sourdough with homemade butter and treacle vinger was delicious right my street. (Additional cost)Mussels highly recommended. Goose leg quinoa with cheese parcel tasty very rich sauce/jus.Beef with all the trimming excellent around cauliflower cheese a highlight again a very rich sauce which may not be to everyone's liking my partner found it a bit strong but went well overall.Chicken with ox cheek fritter very tasty fresh veg and red cabbage went well Roast pototos werent to my liking but didn't by any means ruin the dishSticky toffee and ginger pudding with ice cream top notch. Reminded my of the toffee u get at bonfire night. Presentation excellent, attentive staff. Lastly the only small comment which is by know means a negative. I just thought the soft drinks being served in jam jar type glasse with a straw didnt really match the upmarket food presentation. But that's just me. Overall very good. Thanks for having us.

The Art School

Princes Park, Liverpool, 60-100£
18/01/2018: We had the Prix Fixe menu here before Christmas, this is good value for the quality and service. Ok with drinks don't expect much less than £50 a head. But... you wont get many meals like this for a similar price, Christmas treat to ourselves. Each of the courses was beautifully prepared with nice 'surprises' in between. If you go for the Prix Fixe you will not be disappointed, Just need to save up for the taster menu next time!
17/01/2018: This restaurant is hidden away in a quiet street behind The Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. It's been here around 3 years and the Victorian building was a childrens' poor house in the late 1800's. It has been beautifully renovated and houses the main restaurant and also a private dining room, accommodating up 30 guests. It was a freezing cold day and a wood burning stove roared away in the bar area. We were welcomed by friendly front of house staff and from the main restaurant you can see the kitchen team beavering away behind a large window. We caught a glimpse of Paul Askew, the owner/chef - he wasn't in 'whites' but clearly he is 'hands on' in the running of the restaurant. The food was brilliant and for starters we had the haddock and the mushroom souffle. For mains we had the pheasant and the vegetarian option of braised celery. The 'sharing desserts' and coffee rounded off a sumptuous meal and very enjoyable experience.Drinks were sensibly priced with the range of house wines starting at just over £20/bottle and £5.50 for a glass. Champagne started at £55/bottle.Having read some of the reviews beforehand we were a little apprehensive about what to expect from The Art School. Whilst a small number of reviews made criticisms of some aspects of the food/service, we were delighted with the whole experience. It is relatively expensive but this style of food/restaurant is reserved for special occasions, so we had absolutely no complaints. Suggest you check the various menu options on the website - we had the 3 course prix fixe lunch - highly recommended!

The Clink Restaurant

Wilmslow Lacey Green, Cheshire East, <20£
15/01/2018: We ate at The Clink on Sat night. The atmosphere, food and service were outstanding. What a brilliant scheme and we wish it success after success. We had the four course gourmet menu- great choices and food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. There is a no alcohol policy but the Mocktail on offer was so good no one was at all concerned!
15/01/2018: The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were friendly, efficient and smart and very professional. It is a lovely building and tastefully decorated. The toilets were clean. Although there is no license for alcohol there was a great selection of drinks and the ones we chose were delicious.Very impressed with the whole experience and it won't be the last time we go there. Would thoroughly recommend it.
