The Brisley Bell Bed & Breakfast

Taverner, Breckland, 20-30£
15/03/2019: The place was buzzing by 7pm, on a rainy Friday night in March. It’s a lovely pub, with various areas to eat and drink, our favourite being the snug with its lovely open fire. We were sat in the restaurant on this evening, a comfortable and cosy room. We struggled to choose, really liked the menu. We both had two courses. I had the scallops to start with a beetroot tatin. I enjoyed it very much, but beetroot placed on top of a piece of puff pastry a tatin does not make. My partner had hot smoked salmon, which he enjoyed. For the main course I had duck breast, which again was good. Could have been cooked slightly less for my taste, but it was pink. Again, the lyonnaise potatoes were nice, but they weren’t lyonnaise potatoes! Putting a few onions with baby new potatoes are not lyonnaise! I liked them and had they not been wrongly described I wouldn’t be talking about them now. It’s just a matter of expectation. My partner had a steak with pepper sauce which was good. It said hand cut chips on the menu and that’s what he expected, fresh potato chips produced on the premises. He was given frozen chips. We didn’t have dessert. We had a nice bottle of red wine, but expect to pay, the decent wines are expensive. Don’t get me wrong, we had a lovely evening and we enjoyed our dinner very much. I paid £110, not cheap but I’ve payed less elsewhere and felt ripped off, I didn’t feel that here.
15/03/2019: Excellent food very good quality of service multiple of choice for food all looks lovely and very well priced. Highly recommend 👍🏻

Fox and Hounds

Hermitage, Breckland
20/02/2019: The Fox and Hounds is a few minutes from where we are staying on The Green. Went for a meal, and had to ask about what was in certain dishes, as I can't eat certain dairy products, and some veg. They were extremely helpful, checking with the chief what could be substituted. The meal I had in the end was a straightforward burger and chips. The burger was well seasoned, and the chips (fries) were well cooked. I was offered a side salad instead of the menu coleslaw which was a nice touch. My Wife had a Sheppard's Pie, which was good, and served properly hot, not lukewarm. The local beer I had was good also. The only slight downside was constant music videos, not really what we were wanting, but I think the restaurant and bar areas overlap too much to avoid this.
16/01/2019: I have eaten a few times here and really enjoy the atmosphere of a real local pub. Food is excellent. The pub also has it's own brewery with a great selection of top class beers on tap. 5 minutes from the coast. Great place to stop after a brisk beach walk.

New Saffron

Thetford-Castle, Breckland
15/03/2019: Stopped off whilst passing through the area. Fine selection of starters and delicious main meals. I opted for chicken madras with rice and saag paneer, some of the tastiest food I’ve eaten. Stop by if you get chance!
05/02/2019: Visited New Saffron on a first date after reading great reviews on TripAdvisor. They outdid themselves!

Tabnabs

Two Rivers, Breckland
16/02/2019: Visited for a Saturday Breakfast with a girl friend - it was lovely. There is a great menu to choose from - both food and drinks - especially lots of lovely tea. The staff were very helpful and the food was of a very high standard. The Eggs Royal was delicious - the eggs were perfect and it tasted wonderful. I would not hesitate to go back. It was very busy, so booking is probably a good idea. A lovely tea room that is friendly, clean and serves lovely food.
27/01/2019: An absolutely wonderful traditional afternoon tea. The sandwiches were huge with plenty of filling, beats any other afternoon tea hands down. 12 sandwiches between the two of us with fillings of tuna, egg, cheese and pickle and beef and horseradish. Next onto two large fruit scones with jam and clotted cream; warm and tasty.

The Fox at Lyng

Eynsford, Breckland, <20£
10/03/2019: As it was mid-week it was quiet and the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. The food was very good and although not a lot of vegetarian options, I still found something appealing. I was happy to pay a little more for their food as it was very good, no chain restaurant burger and chips here thank goodness..!! The staff were friendly and the service good. All in all, it was a lovely evening and we look forward to another visit.
03/03/2019: My partner and I fancied a Saturday pub lunch and a walk and ended up in Lyng.

Elmham Tea Post

Upper Wensum, Breckland
15/03/2019: Just called in for coffee, which was superb. Next time I'll definitely have something to eat, the food looked really excellent. The tearoom was very comfortable and well furnished, with its own carpark alongside.
15/03/2019: Popped in here the other today for a pot of tea and some lemon cake, both of which were delicious. The cafe has a lovely atmosphere, with some beautiful photographs for sale too. The staff were very warm and friendly and really made me feel welcome.

Brown's Kitchen

Conifer, Breckland, <20£
13/03/2019: Stopped for a cuppa.and bite to eat on way to a meeting. Despite several attempts to attract attention failed to get some fresh hot water for tea far too strong for my tastes. General impression was moved served you were of no further interest - shame because it seemed a good place to stop on way to Bury.
03/03/2019: This straightforward cafe on the road to Swaffham serves great food in a pleasant country dining cafe setting. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating. The English cooked breakfast was tremendous with great local ingredients and perfect portion size. It really is a great bargain and an all around good experience. I will be looking for an excuse to go again!!

Cheers restaurant thetford

Mid Forest, Breckland
25/02/2019: Ok , we were in Thetford to do some research on where to start the Peddars Way, park our car etc. and we were staying at the travelodge which is very short walk to this restaurant. Not knowing the area I had read the reviews, pretty much all good. I booked for a monday night and I must admit expectd it to be quiet, it was nearly full so glad I did book. We opted for the £22.50 unlimited. This gave us fried chorizo with warm bread rolls and small slices of toast as a starter, which was more pleasant than it sounds, then they bring the stone out with a heater underneath, they gave us large bowl chips, bowl rice, bowl black beans, bowl coleslaw. Drinks are included in the price if you stick to house white, house red, sangria or soft drinks, we had several carafes of sangria. Then they bought out our first steak which is pre seasoned and oiled and cut into 4/5 large pieces. You have tongs to put the meat on the stone. Well before we were finished our first steak the waiter was giving us another steak, replacing the coleslaw, drink. It was impressive that he was ahead of the game, we didn't have to ask for anything, he beat us to it. In fact I had to stop him before he gave me a third steak. When they say unlimited they really mean it. I have had better steak, but I have paid a lot more money, as far as I am concerned this is great value for money, a bit of fun, and therefore an experience no to be missed.
16/02/2019: I walk past this restaurant every day after work and it always looks cheerful and buzzing with happy people! Surprised my partner with a visit and it was delicious - plenty of food (even as a vegi - the halloumi on stone was awesome) and my partner loved the steak. Rice, beans, fries, wine, meat and sangria were all topped up and Paulo made sure we were well looked after - excellent sense of humour - a magic evening! Also accommodated us wanting to sit a little quieter away form TV screen. Thank you!

Inn on the Green

Buckenham, Breckland, <20£
04/03/2019: We went as a group of eight for Sunday lunch, we all enjoyed the ambience , the food was excellent, the staff were very friendly, what more could you ask for.Weel done and keep up these high standards.
10/02/2019: True, New Buckenham is a place you might need to search for on the map, but its a nice, well established village and The Inn on the Green is pretty much in its centre. The building might not immediately grab your attention....but make sure you go in there, because its subtle, relaxing and the food is lovely. Chapel Street is a bit narrow, so drive slowly as its here that you'll find their car park, just to the left side. There is a square bar in the middle of the main room, order a drink and they'll offer you a table (there's a larger more open area, and also several tables in the smaller, cosy, village green facing room). We had a starter (I loved the Whitebait....and my wife enjoyed Salad with Binham Blue) and a Main (Pork Duo and my wife Liver and Bacon)....both rich, tasty and nicely presented. Portion sizes are right for these types of dishes.....leaving us satisfied and comfortably full. Pint of Peroni and a glass of Trebbiano) and water, staff very friendly and efficient....the place was quiet when we walked in (Thursday lunchtime around 12.30) but a steady flow of customers came in to add to the atmosphere....and I bet they all left having enjoyed this visit. You don't have to wait for a special occasion to check out The Inn on the Green...it makes any day better.

The Lodge

Two Rivers, Breckland, <20£
18/03/2019: This was our second mid week visit and the place was packed! We were lucky to get a table at 6pm and I recommend booking as some people who arrived later were turned away. I really applaud the 2 servers and back of house staff who worked that night as it was a full house. Great atmosphere. I had the New York deli burger and hubby had the haloomi burger. Both were delicious as was the sticky toffee pudding. We will be back.
15/02/2019: Came here for an impromptu early mid week dinner and hubby ordered the ribs and I had the blue cheese and bacon burger. OMG delicious, my mouth is watering whilst typing this review! Ellie our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and helped us make our decisions as there was a lot to choose from. We both started by ordering weak black tea and she was smart enough to leave the tea bags out of the pot so we could make it just how we liked it. Very thoughtful. A free refill of hot water for the tea pot too. Much appreciated, thank you.

The Hockham Eagle

Wayland, Breckland
19/03/2019: Lovely, polite, friendly staff, newly refurbished, great food, great beer and cider. Well worth a visit.
25/02/2019: Dog friendly, wine OK, we both had paninis, plonked on a plate without any thought!!! No frills or embellishments here! Could do an awful lot better. Also did not like the baby having its bottom changed on the pool table. Just call me fussy.!!!!
